Disotto - Pappardelle Bolognese - Italian Near Me - Highwood, Illinois

Hubby & I went there Saturday night, 7 pm reservations for my 55th birthday celebration. They sat us in the dungeon, aka, basement. Horrible table, crammed like an after thought to squeeze more money out of 2 suckers in the corner. When I complained, we were seated in Margo's section. I heard her tell the table next to us something along the lines, if they liked her so much, don't forget to leave a review! I foolishly thought, cool, we'll be in for a treat. Took 10 minutes before she came to us. We had to ask for water & the few times she came over, she acted like we were a major inconvenience. I ordered the Pappardelle Bolognese. At $29 it was a major ripoff. Had no taste & there were tiny scraps of veal. Photos I've seen of this dish have decent sized clumps of meat. The whole point of Bolognese is the meat!! The "wonderful" Margo only checked on us as soon as the food was delivered, asking how it tasted. It was just placed on the table, barely had a chance to taste it! Never asked if we needed drink refills until we were ready to leave, never came back to see if the food actually tasted good. My birthday wasn't even acknowledged by the hostess or the waitstaff. We will never return & highly recommend you avoid. Would give 0 stars if I could. read more

Was there for a party a couple weeks ago. As usual, the portions are small. It was family style. Everything on the "platters" allowed each person to take two. The platter they used was the size of most restaurants plates. We got two ravioli each, two broccoli each, maybe three potato pieces. Also, there was a lot of time between each plate. Perhaps that's so you are not starving and don't realize you barely ate anything. You pay a lot for a little. The other thing about this restaurant is that it is SOOO dark. But some people may like that, however, for a luncheon, it gives a weird vibe. read more

Disotto's always hits. I have been there twice and both times were delicious. The service is always great as well. Such a cute spot that is cozy, intimate and has the best mood lighting. I have had the chopped salad which was delicious. The calamari, bread, & Brussels sprouts are amazing. The pasta is all homemade and hits the spot. Love it here! read more

Stopped by to catch up with a friend and had a lovely time. The gin martini was excellent, crafted with care by the bartender, who mixed it up with his dainty hands (a detail I won't forget!). Then the chopped salad, which was fresh and well-balanced. The standout of the night was definitely the spaghetti with pomodoro sauce was simple, classic, and absolutely delicious. I also tried the Pollo alla Milanese, which was flavorful but a bit too thick for my liking, though to be fair, I was already getting full. Finished off with the sticky toffee cake, which was rich, decadent, and worth every bite. Great spot for a cozy dinner with solid Italian fare. read more

This is a fabulous restaurant! I had a great cocktail and wine here in addition to a lovely entree and affogato. However, the apps stole the show! That focaccia is MAGICAL. The calamari here is also among the best I have ever had. It's a bustling, tight, and busy atmosphere, but the food is comforting and delicious. read more

I've been to every bar and restaurant in town and this one keeps bringing me back. The food? Great. The atmosphere? Fantastic. But above all of that is one man behind the bar - Jose. I've never seen anyone move as quickly as this guy, he's is literally doing 5 jobs at once and he does them to perfection. He makes me want to start a bar just to hire him. Great experience always. read more

Disotto - Jose in action! - Italian Near Me - Highwood, Illinois

My first review of Disotto, although I've eaten here before. Also, this was ordered through Uber Eats. I tried the Brussels Sprouts, which has a Farm egg, crispy prosciutto, Calabrian chilies, pecorino. I've eaten Brussels sprouts at so many restaurants and they serve it a little differently here -- chalk that up to the chilies and the fried egg. The sprouts were perfectly done, firm but also very chewable and the addition of the egg gives a little richness and the chilies add a little bite. I also ordered the Pizza Con Salsiccia which is made with vodka sauce, Italian sausage, fresh mozzarella, shallots, Calabrian chili breadcrumbs. The vodka sauce gave a nice creaminess and there was a generous topping of Italian sausage. The crust was very thin and crisp. The cheese didn't hold up to the delivery. It was a little lukewarm. The Uber driver did a good job at delivering promptly. I just think that the pizza would have been better dining in at the restaurant. I loved the complimentary focaccia with the seasoned olive oil dipping sauce. The bread was soft and like a sponge it drank up the olive oil. That would be delicious made into a sandwich. Overall, a good meal but as with other restaurants, it's better to dine in. I like the menu, the cacio e Pepe and carbonara look good, not to mention the desserts! read more

I love this restaurant! The service be sure to ask for Margo... the best... all the servers are fantastic. Food is delicious and if for some reason, it's not exactly perfect the manager, Madeline will comp your meal. He has a nice outdoor area as well. I go here at least twice a month give it a try and again shout out to Margo for being our favorite server. She truly bends over backwards to make sure your dining experience is excellent! read more

Food Excellent, unique Ambience and filled with Happy Customers like eating in an authentic Mama's Home Kitchen. Service A+ Thin Pizza the best! Menu items all tasty...will be back read more

Really enjoyed my dinner. My wife did as well. It was a little expensive, but that probably had to do with the location. What we really enjoyed was the dessert we took home. They had lemon meringue pie that was really good. You used to see lemon meringue pie all the time back in the 70s and 80s, but you don't see a lot of pies, much less good pies anymore. Awesome job. read more

Huge disappointment. The prices here have doubled but sadly the quality is nowhere near what it was a year ago! Maybe it was a poor choice of dishes, but quality shouldn't depend on what you order. The complementary bread was stale and edible only with the complementary side of olive oil. The mushroom pizza was over-salted and the chicken my husband ordered was so salty that one bite required a full glass of water to neutralize the taste of salt. Will sadly be skipping this place in the future. read more

Not a fan. Food fair at best! Not great service! Once accused me of stealing another customers credit card but the waiter handed the completed bill to the wrong customer! Not me! Not worth it anyway! read more

My server Cici was wonderful, polite, and, exceptionally attentive to all our my party's needs. Offered multiple wonderful suggestions and a great bottle of wine to pair. Truly a wonderful experience and great dessert. read more

Recently I went out to dinner with my wife and some friends and we had the best time at Disotto! Margo, our server, was amazing and made the night so much fun. And Nick was very helpful and gave us some excellent wine recommendations. The energy was lively, the food was delicious, the wine was great, and we had so much fun. We can't wait to go back to see Margo and Nick! read more

I just want give a huge shout out to Nick and his staff Margo, Grace and Seamus, and really everyone for going above and beyond for my nephew who is newly diagnosed with Celiac. They not only accommodated him but never made him or us feel like it was a burden. I would also like to say that we all loved the food, it was our first time there, but wont be our last as my nephew enjoyed everything they prepared for him as well. Thank you for such a great experience and an amazing meal. read more

Booked a 7:45 pm Valentines Day reservation. Arrived at 7:45- restaurant was over packed and really noisy. We left our phone number and went to a bar a couple door away and heard nothing for 45 minutes. When my wife went back to check, the hostess said-"where were you", we texted"- my wife showed her her phone and there was no text. We ended up ordering pizza and eating at home. It's too bad Disotto where I've had decent food couldn't manage their patrons on what I'll acknowledge was a busy day. DO BETTER!!! read more

Love the look. Kind of tucked away and quaint. Perfect for a nice lunch or even a date night. Charcuterie board was delicious. Mascarpone French toast was great. My wife's new found love of mussels were definitely met. Service was good just a little slow. It looked like he may have been the only server. Overall he was great. We will without a doubt be back for another round. read more

We stopped by Disotto while exploding Highland park. What a gem! The food, service, and wine were amazing! We'll be back!

we had Margo for a server, great service even better food and ambiance, definitely recommend, the pistachio ice cream was the Bomb as well.

Freshly prepared spaghetti carbonara. Great service. Perfect ambiance. Five stars. Amazing hidden gem. Rare to find real, authentic, Roman carbonara. Everything else is bonus. read more

We enjoyed a couples dinner here--It was our first visit and we were seated at a nice booth. The ambiance is terrific-- the exposed brick, wood and lighting combine for a chill dinner vibe. The Service was timely and friendly. Everyone enjoyed their food-- we started with the calamari --it was crispy with little oiliness. The mixed salads were nicely done as well. The entrees were thumbs up-- the chicken parm, scallops, branzino, and linguini with clams. All in all this is one of the better Italian places we've experienced on the North Shore. read more

Came in with a few friends tonight and absolutely loved it. We had fresh bread once we sat down. Wine service was great and there was a nice selection of non-alcoholic beverages too. We started with the chopped salad which was delicious. For dinner we had the bolognese and carbonara, both delicious. We ended the evening with lemonicello. The restaurant was beautiful, dimly lit with great music playing. Will come again! read more

First time trying this spot and we had a great time, and definitely will be going back. Although there was one or two tables on the dining area the manager recommended the bar as the birthday party was somewhat loud. It was a good call. Tuesday bar tender was fantastic as well as the food. The manager checked up on us several times too. Good vibe for a Friday night. Highly recommend! read more

This review is for lunch for two at the bar on a Sunday in mid-March. service: Gretchen P. was our bartender and did an awesome job. The manager was also engaging and professional. bar: I started with a Disotto Bloody Mary ($15, as of 03/2024). Note there are Bloody Mary versions with candied bacon or slider as garnish! The Maplewood IPA ($10 as of 03/2024) was an exceptional beer. Kudos for having a Chicago-land IPA available. With our meal, my wife drank a Donna Laura Ali Toscana Rosse ($12) which is a great wine. food: We split the Italian Chopped ($16 as of 03/2024), so what you see in the photo is a HALF portion. We also split the Disotto Burger ($20) which the kitchen was nice enough to also split. Special mention for the excellent fries. details: Theme is Italian and wine with lots of cute décor. The place was not packed at 1pm, but would imagine it gets very busy sometimes. We found street parking, but that might be an exception, not the rule. read more

We went to Disottos for the first time and can't wait to go back! Cute ambiance inside and outside plenty of street parking. Our server was Jesus. So knowledgeable and fun! He and his team were prompt and well trained. We had a delicious Italian wine. And they serve you a tender bruchetto with olive oil dipping sauce. We ordered a crispy chicken on a homemade pasta with an amazing vodka sauce and arugula with Parmesan. Wow! So good! It was so crispy and the chicken was juicy and tender. We also got the spaghetti. The fresh pasta is delicious here. We never get desserts but tried the frittata cinnamon balls and dipped them in hot fudge and strawberry yum. Planning our next meals here. Such a treasure this restaurant and it's workers are! read more

Disotto is a great Italian restaurant in Highwood. We gave Disotto a try on New Year's Eve. Thanks to being across from the Highwood Metra Station there is a lot of on street parking but Disotto also offers valet service for $5. We self parked on the street. The staff at the host stand were friendly and we were able to be seated right away thanks to our reservation. Thank goodness for that because the entry area is small so I'm not sure where we would have waited if we had to. As it was we had to a dance with some people who were coming up the stairs right behind us. Our table was downstairs in what I believe is a room used for private parties. The interior of the restaurant is designed to look like a wine cellar. Being downstairs added to the feel. When we got to the room the host offered us a two person table or a four person table. Being that we were a party of two and it was NYE I selected the table for two which turned out to be a mistake because there wasn't enough room on the table for the items we ordered and the staff wasn't great at clearing items before bringing new items out. We started our meal with the grilled Spanish octopus and drinks. The octopus was great! I would definitely order it again. My husband opted for a soft drink but I tried their mezcal cocktail which had a name I can't recall. It was enjoyable and I'd order it again. Those items were finished but the plates and glasses were still on the table when our main courses were brought out. The server had to figure out how to put the items down while also removing the dishes we were finished with. Thanks to a pizza stand the server went to retrieve there was just enough room on the table. My husband had the risotto and enjoyed it. I ordered the Italian chopped salad and prosciutto pizza. The pizza was on a thin, crisp crust and was topped with prosciutto, arugula, a sprinkle of cheese, and a swirl of a balsamic glaze. I'd definitely also order this pizza again. The chopped salad was good. There was enough for two people so I shared it with my husband. We ended our meal with dessert. There were a lot of interesting options so since it was NYE we decided each order one to share instead of our usual habit of getting one dessert to share. I ordered the tiramisu and my husband ordered the ricotta fritters. Both desserts were good but if we could only order one again it would be the fritters which came with two dipping sauces. With dessert I ordered tea. The tea pot came with a green tea but I was able to replace the green tea with black tea. The menu didn't note the type of tea served. Overall we agreed we'd return to Disotto for a date night or special occasion due to pricing which is appropriate given the quality of the food. If you are near Highwood give Disotto a try and opt for the larger table if it is offered. read more

Food was great. Fresh. Service was wonderful. But loud but smaller places that are packed usually are louder.

How can they claim they are an Italian restaurant when they don't know what Chicken Milanese is? It is thinly pounded breaded chicken cutlets. We received two huge chicken breast fried. Probably 4 inches thick. Inedible . Also we got the worst seat in the house on Christmas Eve after having made a reservation way in advance. Will never go there again. Waitress was awesome but management could care less about customer service read more

Came in with a friend on a Monday night. The. Place was packed but luckily we were able to get a nice table tucked in the corner of the patio. We settled on splitting several dishes to maximize the menu. We started with the beet salad, which was light, perfectly dressed, and a nice balance of flavors. We moved on to Brussel sprouts which were a total miss. Over oiled and overcooked, they were basically inedible. Luckily the pasta (orichette with sausage) was a sufficient portion to satisfy us both. The complementary bites of focaccia were delicious. Our server was friendly and attentive but not overbearing. I'd return for sure! read more

I was disappointed. I ordered risotto with scallops. I was worried the scallops wouldn't be cooked correctly, but it was the risotto that was hard and undercooked. The only option I was given by the waiter was a new plate of risotto, but by the time he had come back to check on our food everyone at the table was about finished with their dinner. Five scallops on a bed of risotto (no vegetable) for $40 seemed pricey, without the risotto it was very pricey. read more

The ambiance at Disotto is awesome and the restaurant is surprisingly kid friendly. The food can be a bit hit or miss, but the misses still leave you with good quality food. Great spot to spend an evening with friends or family! read more

Great gem near the Metra line in Highwood. Menu has lots of great options including several kinds of pasta, branzino, scallops and several kinds of salad. Tremendous veal beef meatballs in a rustic sauce. Ultra thin crisp pizza that makes a fabulous appetizer. Light, crunchy calamari. Fresh and tasty. Service was excellent and team based. Our server Seamus was perfect. Polite and accommodating. Bustling kitchen who does a great job. Great atmosphere. It's not around the corner from where I live, so I don't expect I'll go here often, but I definitely will be back. read more

My husband and I took my mom out to eat here. We arrived around 8:30pm and were able to eat comfortably without feeling rushed. The wait staff forgot our bread and mixed up our orders but made up for it with a slice of cake at the end of our meal. We ordered orecchiette, risotto, and pappardelle. The pappardelle in meat sauce felt saucy but was bland, but the mushroom risotto and orecchiette with sausage and veggies were tasty. We enjoyed a Brussels sprouts starter as well. We would definitely come back for the ambiance and the service, as we felt these really made up for the just-average food. read more

The food is always delicious with exceptional service. My favorite is the Disotto Caesar salad with salmon; it amazing.

Amazing experience! Margo and Nick, the manager, were such a joy to meet and made us feel very welcome and at home! Where to even begin... After spending the whole day at the beach, my boyfriend decided to take us to "this cute little Italian place with some phrase in Italian on the awning that I pass by every time I drive home." I was like "cool." So, with dry clothes and women's deodorant on BOTH of us, he expertly parallel parked right before the valet spots - the last open spot on that side of the road - and smartly saved us five whole dollars. Frantically unbuckling my seatbelt in an attempt to fill my stomach with delicious A talien food as fast as possible, I let viscous threats fall from my mouth. "If you don't get me food right now, I'm going to attack you and throw you in the trunk!" Just as the word "trunk" left my lips, the trunk of the car in front of us invitingly opened to us. "Wow! You must have some sort of super power," said my boyfriend. I thought nothing of it. BUT THEN! We made our way through the main door, were seated at the perfect little table (outside, but not TOO outside, y'know?) were given delicious focaccia, and a nice chilled bottle of l'aqua frizzante. Well, all day on a hot sunny beach, I was parched. But as I went to refill my glass of frizzante, I found it quite difficult to unscrew the cap of the bottle. "Man, this is kinda hard to unscrew all by myself..." SUDDENLY Margo materialized at the edge of our table, smiling wide and eager to help. She snatched the bottle from my hands, dismantled the bottle with Herculean ease, and refilled both my glass and my soul with her kind demeanor. When she vanished, we both laughed at the reappearance of my newfound superpower. "Wow, you gotta teach me how to do that!" He remarked. As the night went on, we wined, dined, and rhymed our way to a good time. Little did we know, the cosmic occurrences were only halfway through. We ordered the calamari. Not gonna lie, it was a little heavy, but still quite delicious. We thought to brighten these hearty squiddy rings with a liberal oozing of lemon jooze. HOWEVER: there was only one lemon slice left. I proclaimed (only to my boyfriend) that we could use some more lemon. Yet, in that very moment, Margo appeared AGAIN, bringing us a small dish abundant with yellow tangy, supple wedges. We thanked her, and looked at each other with MOUTHS AGAPE. It was beginning to terrify us. What else was I capable of? Am I a monster? This was getting out of hand. But we had to know the extent of my powers. The first thought I had was to manifest (through God) that Margo (and Nick) would bring out a free tiramisu for us to enjoy. My boyfriend and I laughed at the idea, and continued with our cute conversation and our delicious home-made bolognese and pesto pasta dishes. As the night drew to a close, the amazing ambience and service made us almost forget about the earlier attempt at summoning some free tiramisu. Margo charismatically came to pick up our cleaned our plates, and offered us a dessert menu, which we politely declined. "We appreciate it, but everything was delicious and we are so full." "No problem," she said with a smile, and a mischievous twinkle in her eye. We turned back to each other and kept talking, waiting for our check and our drive home. But Margo (and Nick) had other plans... "I know you said you were full..." we heard from the doorway, "but here's a piece of our delectable house made tiramisu, on us." She brought the cake, plates, and a to-go box all in one trip, so that we could "try a bite and take the rest home!" We lost our MINDS. Another A talien dinner miracle, and the final confirmation of my supernatural abilities. We laughed between bites of creamy tiramisu, said a final goodnight to the incredible, hospitable staff (and Nick), and ended our evening out in very high spirits. Definitely would recommend! Great food and service, and you might find out you have superpowers!!! read more
