    Italian Chopped
    Alexis C.

Stopped by to catch up with a friend and had a lovely time. The gin martini was excellent, crafted with care by the bartender, who mixed it up with his dainty hands (a detail I won't forget!). Then the chopped salad, which was fresh and well-balanced. The standout of the night was definitely the spaghetti with pomodoro sauce was simple, classic, and absolutely delicious. I also tried the Pollo alla Milanese, which was flavorful but a bit too thick for my liking, though to be fair, I was already getting full. Finished off with the sticky toffee cake, which was rich, decadent, and worth every bite. Great spot for a cozy dinner with solid Italian fare.

I've been to every bar and restaurant in town and this one keeps bringing me back. The food? Great. The atmosphere? Fantastic. But above all of that is one man behind the bar - Jose. I've never seen anyone move as quickly as this guy, he's is literally doing 5 jobs at once and he does them to perfection. He makes me want to start a bar just to hire him. Great experience always.

My girlfriend and I visited here on a late Saturday night. There was a great buzz in the air. It is a cute little place with good seating options. The food was really good - ate every drop - portions are perfect - a bit small so get an appetizer! Staff were friendly and attentive - desert was good too! Come on down!!!

Pizza Con Salsiccia $19.00 Vodka sauce, Italian sausage, fresh mozzarella, shallots, Calabrian chili breadcrumbs

My first review of Disotto, although I've eaten here before. Also, this was ordered through Uber Eats. I tried the Brussels Sprouts, which has a Farm egg, crispy prosciutto, Calabrian chilies, pecorino. I've eaten Brussels sprouts at so many restaurants and they serve it a little differently here -- chalk that up to the chilies and the fried egg. The sprouts were perfectly done, firm but also very chewable and the addition of the egg gives a little richness and the chilies add a little bite. I also ordered the Pizza Con Salsiccia which is made with vodka sauce, Italian sausage, fresh mozzarella, shallots, Calabrian chili breadcrumbs. The vodka sauce gave a nice creaminess and there was a generous topping of Italian sausage. The crust was very thin and crisp. The cheese didn't hold up to the delivery. It was a little lukewarm. The Uber driver did a good job at delivering promptly. I just think that the pizza would have been better dining in at the restaurant. I loved the complimentary focaccia with the seasoned olive oil dipping sauce. The bread was soft and like a sponge it drank up the olive oil. That would be delicious made into a sandwich. Overall, a good meal but as with other restaurants, it's better to dine in. I like the menu, the cacio e Pepe and carbonara look good, not to mention the desserts!

We enjoyed a couples dinner here--It was our first visit and we were seated at a nice booth. The ambiance is terrific-- the exposed brick, wood and lighting combine for a chill dinner vibe. The Service was timely and friendly. Everyone enjoyed their food-- we started with the calamari --it was crispy with little oiliness. The mixed salads were nicely done as well. The entrees were thumbs up-- the chicken parm, scallops, branzino, and linguini with clams. All in all this is one of the better Italian places we've experienced on the North Shore.

First time trying this spot and we had a great time, and definitely will be going back. Although there was one or two tables on the dining area the manager recommended the bar as the birthday party was somewhat loud. It was a good call. Tuesday bar tender was fantastic as well as the food. The manager checked up on us several times too. Good vibe for a Friday night. Highly recommend!

I hadn't been here in a while, but I was glad to check it out again. It is hard to get used to how loud it is at first, but it depends on where you sit. The louder people near us left early into our dinner reservation, so that was good. Our server was super nice and eager to ensure we had everything we needed! Things take a while here, and it's such a long-running restaurant that you'd think service needs would be "well oiled" more than they are. It took us 10-15 minutes just to get water, and for me to get a club soda, it took about another 15-20. (These are estimates - I didn't pull out a stopwatch! That would be weird.) I don't think it was our server's fault either; she was running around the place very intentionally. I was a bit worried that this restaurant was coasting on its reputation and would have staid, bland food, but no! The minestrone was some of the best I remember having, and my friend thought the same of hers. She liked her spaghetti marinara with meatballs, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed my spaghetti with what was basically vodka sauce. I didn't eat all of it, to say the least, because I was getting full, but I enjoyed what I had. It was very flavorful - recommended! (Just be prepared to wait a bit...don't go before a show.)

This cozy old school familial place has that Italian charm you are looking for - sweeping you back in time. The customer service here is just right! From a nice greeting from the bar when you walk in to the server at your table, they make you feel right at home. The food is impeccable! At first we were not sure we would like it, but boy were we wrong! We started off with the duck polpetta - this small plate was absolutely fantastic and the sauce it came with had you scraping the plate for more. (Note though: the menu says THREE and we only received 2...) Our meals came with soup or salad and we each got a salad and soup - the salad dressing was out of this world. The minestrone was just okay. On to the entrees. My date ordered the salmon with a side of fettuccine Alfredo - this was cooked to perfection - so succulent and the seasoning was beautifully topped. I ordered the Veal Modenese - it was so flavorful I am still thinking about it the next day and how I could have it over and over again. Don't sleep on this place - make a reservation sooner then later, it's such a beautiful spot, if you like being taken back to the old time of Italian restaurants.

Man, am I glad we got the flyer, because they have since become one of our local favorites! For the longest time, Lou Malnati's was our favorite Chicago style deep dish pizza, but Cansino's is now #1 in town for us. Their cheese blend is soooo creamy, stretchy, and delicious! It's apparently their own in-house blend of California cheeses, and it reminds us of the tasty Wisconsin brick that's popular in Detroit style (possibly a little creamier but less salty). Their tomato sauce is super savory, with a rich herb blend and not too sweet or tart - it's so satisfying! The crust is firm and delicious, and their sausage is leaner than Lou's while having a stronger fennel essence. We still love other Chicago style deep dish pizzas, but Cansino's will be the first on our list when we get a craving. We love onion rings in principle, but are a little particular about how we enjoy them. Cansino's onion rings are excellent - crispy seasoned breading and supple onion slices that are cooked juuuust right. Their fries are also really tasty, and we loved their fried mushrooms. I've tried two of their Mexican style tortas, which were also very good (I loved the fajita style veggies and beans, and the seasoned beef was pretty good). The steak and veggies were excellent, and their bread was pretty good. Next time, I REALLY wanna try their paninos. Their staff is super-friendly, giving us great suggestions of new things to try. The restaurant is always clean and well lit. Prices are fair for the neighborhood. Their preparation times are reasonable, and everything we've ordered was ready on time. There's plenty of parking right in front of the shop, and their front entrance is easily accessible. They're right across the street from the Fort Sheridan Metra Station, so I recommend trying them out if that's your stop. They also have some breakfast items, so it might be a good treat before your morning commute. We're definitely going to be trying more of Cansino's menu, and we'll be sure to add more photos and updates.

Mixed feelings here!…read more Parking - I hate paying for valet when the parking is so close. It's seems unnecessary and excessive. I understand the need in the city as they are typically driving around trying to find a spot or a designated garage for your car. But when someone takes your car and literally pulls it into a spot right behind the restraunt it seems silly. Then when you're ready to leave you need to engage with that person again to pay even though you can see your car right there. It's only $5 for valet but honestly really silly and not needed. I'd understand for the busy nights like Thursday - Saturday. But not during the week. Just let people park please. The food was mixed. We are a little hyper critical coming from living in the city and being overall good cooks ourselves. I'm a sourdough baker and my husband an avid griller. But I'll break down a few highlights below. Appetizers. This was the highlight of our meal. We got the carrots (best), ricotta and lobster dumplings. The carrots were delicious - sweet, carmelized, nutty and cooked to perfection. Whatever you do don't leave without getting those. Ricotta - we liked this as it felt very Mediterranean. However I would have swapped the oregano with zatar and potentially some chopped dates / pistachios. But overall a nice crisp to the sourdough bread and great dipping action with the ricotta. Lobster ravioli - I really enjoyed this as well. Nice lemongrass flavor with a small kick. The lobster is puree so it's not chunky and more smooth. Entrees - my husband got the chicken which needed some butter on top and more juice to soften it up. A little dry. I got the pasta which was good but something a little more unexpected would be nice. Agnolotti? Desert - soft serve was weird. Tasted liked it was mixed with soda. Like it had a tart carbonated flavor. We are dairy dream lovers (Libertyville) so we may have both expectations for soft serve. Service - our waiter was exceptional! Ambiance - too quiet. I hate when I'm seated so close to people that they can hear everything we say. And as a loud nest coaster when I laugh in a silent room it's awkward. So my personal preference is louder restaurants where I can't laugh or speak without my neighbor hearing everything.
