Mixed feelings here! Parking - I hate paying for valet when the parking is so close. It's seems unnecessary and excessive. I understand the need in the city as they are typically driving around trying to find a spot or a designated garage for your car. But when someone takes your car and literally pulls it into a spot right behind the restraunt it seems silly. Then when you're ready to leave you need to engage with that person again to pay even though you can see your car right there. It's only $5 for valet but honestly really silly and not needed. I'd understand for the busy nights like Thursday - Saturday. But not during the week. Just let people park please. The food was mixed. We are a little hyper critical coming from living in the city and being overall good cooks ourselves. I'm a sourdough baker and my husband an avid griller. But I'll break down a few highlights below. Appetizers. This was the highlight of our meal. We got the carrots (best), ricotta and lobster dumplings. The carrots were delicious - sweet, carmelized, nutty and cooked to perfection. Whatever you do don't leave without getting those. Ricotta - we liked this as it felt very Mediterranean. However I would have swapped the oregano with zatar and potentially some chopped dates / pistachios. But overall a nice crisp to the sourdough bread and great dipping action with the ricotta. Lobster ravioli - I really enjoyed this as well. Nice lemongrass flavor with a small kick. The lobster is puree so it's not chunky and more smooth. Entrees - my husband got the chicken which needed some butter on top and more juice to soften it up. A little dry. I got the pasta which was good but something a little more unexpected would be nice. Agnolotti? Desert - soft serve was weird. Tasted liked it was mixed with soda. Like it had a tart carbonated flavor. We are dairy dream lovers (Libertyville) so we may have both expectations for soft serve. Service - our waiter was exceptional! Ambiance - too quiet. I hate when I'm seated so close to people that they can hear everything we say. And as a loud nest coaster when I laugh in a silent room it's awkward. So my personal preference is louder restaurants where I can't laugh or speak without my neighbor hearing everything. read more

The ambiance is modern and sleek with plenty of indoor and covered outdoor seating options. Valet parking is available as street parking is limited. The menu is approachable offering steak, poultry, seafood and pasta entrée selections. The service was impeccable and included nice touches such as changing out flatware between courses, confirming allergies, etc. Every entrée was delicious, well-prepared and tasted fresh and healthy yet also had delicious flavors. Déjà vu, is a feeling of familiarity with a situation or scene that you know you haven't experienced before. It's a sensation of being in a place, even though it's a first-time experience. I dined at Deere Park, and the haunting déjà vu never left. Is it because I've dined at Greenwood several times in the past? The decor of Deere Park looks the same, I believe most of the staff is the same, and has the same management. So whether it's new to you or a return to familiar surroundings, you will have a good time. I started with a daiquiri (after reading a NYT article about them) and we split a lobster lettuce wrap which was full of succulent meat. I thought the house made chips tasted more like tortilla chips. I enjoyed the carrots -- with pumpkin seeds, labneh, orange vanilla and cilantro. I also had the broccolini but I think I preferred the Brussels sprouts from Greenwood. We split a dish of rigatoni alla vodka -- delicious sauce and unusual pasta shape. My companion enjoyed the salmon with nigiri glaze and lime Serrano butter. We finished with the stunning lemon gelato pie -- delicately flavored with a hint of sweetness and a irresistible crust. Service was well timed, efficient, friendly. As many times as I'd been at the old place (and on this visit), I've never sat in the dining room but always out on the patio section. I think I might like to experience the dining area. It's fun to try new restaurants. However if you're one of those individuals who don't like to try new things you'll be pleasantly surprised at how familiar it is. And if you liked Greenwood, you'll like Deere Park as well. read more

Perusing the menu a few days prior to my reservation, I knew I was going to be in for a treat. If you take a look at just the cocktail list alone, you will realize this is a unique place. While Greenwood had great drinks, Deer Park's cocktails are amazing. I had the Last Word and Mezcal Negroni. Both were well balanced and served in the proper glassware. If you prefer wine, you will find a nice selection to choose from. Our feast: Roasted carrots - they were the perfect consistency of tender and firm, served with delicious orange and vanilla reduction Endive Waldorf - modern Waldorf, with pickled celery pieces; I had some leftover and it was wonderful even the next day Branzino - tender white fish cooked nicely Sundae and a Chocolate mousse - both deserts were nice but the mousse was superior Service: We were greeted by lovely ladies at the host stand. Went last night for an early Sunday dinner and had an amazing experience both food, wise and people watching! They have a special for the first hour and a half that they are open on Sunday where you can get four courses for $38 per person as long as you choose the same items. We got the artichoke appetizer, the endive salad, the salmon and the chocolate mousse. Everything was outstanding, except for the endive salad, which you have to love bitter lettuce to really enjoy. We had an early reservation tonight. We decided to sit at the bar. Omar and Gio made us a couple of great cocktails. Hubby had Todd's martini and I had the spicy cosmo. The cocktail list is amazing. I will be sure to try them all. My cosmo was made with homemade cranberry juice. Spicy and fresh! Hubby and I shared the crab salad. It was light,fresh, with an Asian dressing. The chili's gave it a kick. Hubby had the halibut. It was cooked perfectly with a unique sauce and topped with arugula salad. I had the branzino. Again, cooked perfectly. Crisp skin, excellent chimichurri sauce, topped with pea tips salad. So good! We also had the fries. They are chunky cut crispy bits of heaven. So much to love about this new place in Highwood. Deere Park is a stunning transformation of what was formerly Greenwood American Kitchen. Now, I almost don't want to share this pro tip--but here it is: our favorite spot is the cozy high-top that seats two. It's perfect for date night or celebrating a special occasion. Tucked in with a panoramic view of the beautifully designed dining room, just steps from the bar, it's the ideal perch to enjoy the vibe and get a little lost in your own world. A special shoutout to Omar, who made our first visit to Deere Park absolutely unforgettable. From the moment he greeted us, it felt like a favorite uncle welcoming you into his home. He was incredibly knowledgeable, personable, and attentive--guiding us through the updated menu and offering thoughtful recommendations. My wife loved the fennel chicken, which was aromatic and tender. I ordered the seared tuna, which was cooked perfectly and seasoned with precision. And the lobster dumplings? Phenomenal. A must-order dish. Dessert was the perfect closing note. The blackberry sorbet was bright, refreshing, and exactly what we needed to cleanse the palate. It's light, sweet, shareable, and a must-have--so save room. From the warm welcome at the hostess stand to the seamless service throughout dinner, the entire team at Deere Park impressed us. Took the metra up from downtown Chicago and the journey was worth every minute! Our server Leo was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I started with a Hugo spritz which was refreshing and crisp while my brother got an IPA and my mom a glass of Sancerre. I wish we came with a larger group because every starter sounded delicious. The star of the show was the artichokes and the Branzino. Not pictured was the delicious burger that had these perfectly crisp but super thick cut fries. Great new neighborhood suburb spot that holds up to all the competitive city restaurants I am used to. Definitely will be making the journey up north more often just for Deere Park! read more

I wasn't sure what to expect when Deer Park took over the space that was once Greenwood, but I'm happy to say I've had nothing but great experiences since the change in direction. The restaurant has always had a beautiful ambiance and stunning setting, but now -- finally -- the food lives up to it. The Bronzino is easily a favorite of mine, I'll be thinking of that hamachi crudo for weeks to come, and whipped potatoes . I first came with my family during opening week and, as expected with any new concept, they were still ironing out a few things with the menu and service. Fast forward to a recent visit, and I'm thrilled to say everything felt dialed in -- from the thoughtful cocktails to the well-executed dishes, it was a full-on experience that we all enjoyed. I now completely understand and appreciate the rebrand and new vision. Deer Park has truly come into its own, and I'm fully here for it. Already looking forward to my next visit! read more

I'm crossing Deere Park off my list of places to try. For me, the place sucks and they owe me $7.00. I have no idea how the food is because we didn't get to eat there. I'm assuming it's decent since there was a rush of incoming guests around 7:15 on this particular Saturday night, but we were leaving, off to find someplace to eat. Since we had no reservations and no experience with the place, I dropped my wife off in front to go in and see if we could get seated, while I waited in the car with her brother, who uses a walker to perambulate. She soon came out and waved us in, so I turned the car over to the valet and helped my brother-in-law make his way into to restaurant. As we walked in, the majority of the tables inside were clearly empty. Once inside, my wife said the young lady behind the hostess station told her to give her just a minute. There were four young ladies at the station, all looked very young and confused. I asked the one behind a computer screen about how long she thought it would be until we were seated - brother-in-law with walker clearly visible - and she said, "Just one more minute." After another minute or two and more staring at her screen, she said, "All of our tables are accounted for." My wife asked what that meant and was told that there were no open tables and the wait time would be 30-45 minutes, but we would be allowed to wait at the bar. Since their "just a few minutes" turned out to be 45, there was no reason to believe that the 45 wouldn't turn out to be two hours, so we left, me retrieving the car from valet. Since I forgot to leave the key in the car and the valet had to get it from me and run back to the car, I added $2.00 to the $5.00 valet fee; why punish him for the restaurant's mismanagement. Sadly, this is all too common these days, untrained help working after school to buy lululemon leggings. It probably all started when we, the customers began thanking cashiers at the supermarket for ringing up our groceries. read more

Absolutely loved this place!! Sat at the bar (Omar was amazing) and had the peas crostini, roasted carrots and burger w/fries. WOW! The service, cocktails and food were all outstanding. BTW, the "fries" were more like billowy potato pillows-- crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Addicting!! The overall vibe of DP is also impressive. Can be a bit loud but that's what happens when you draw the crowds. We will be back again soon!! Check this place out if you haven't already. read more

Meh.. nothing remarkable and nothing is a standout. I would expect more from a restaurant in and out of a way location.

I really had high hopes for this replacement of the old Greenwood. The place is visually very nice and quite large, with two seperate good-looking bars and an innovative semi-enclosed patio seating area. We started with the warm sourdough bread and some really nice soft butter - very good, but unfortunately that was the peak of culinary excellence for the night. Our starter was tuna ceviche served in a bowl with about a half inch of sauce... nothing to put it on... no crisp bread or crackers or chips, just had to fork it, dripping, out of the bowl. Flavors were not good. The powerful citrusy sauce way overpowered the tuna, the corn nuts were interesteing but didn't seem to mesh with the dish, and it was served with a pile of large raw red onion slivers on top. Who wants to eat a big chunk of raw red onion? The tuna was not featured at all, and looked lost in the soupy bowl. One of the weakest ceviches I've ever had. Two of us got the Tuna au Poivre - nice cubes of deep red seared tuna - room temperature, which is fine for a good seared tuna, but the whipped potatos and sauce were also room temperature, which I can't imagine was the plan, because it didn't work at all. These a reason restaurants use hot plates to serve some dishes... if this had been served with warm potatos and warm sauce, you might have a decent dish. I had two starters as my entree... I got the hamachi crudo, which first appeared to have no hamachi, but under all the garni and a generous layer of thick green sauce, I uncovered thin slices of the feature ingredient. Raw white fish coated in thick green sauce - not appealing in any way. The sauce overwhelmed the delicate hamachi to the point where, serously, it could have been thin slices of chicken breast and no one would know. I couldn't even finish that plate. My other choice was the roasted shrimp. Good presentation and nice amount of shrimp for a starter... but again everything was room temperatire at best, the shrimp, the fava beans, the puree... The fava beans and shrimp combination seemed ill -advised. and hard to eat together, and it had barely enough room temperature puree to make an impact. The shrimp didn't seem to have any of it's own spicing to add to the party. My feeling is Deere Park has a chef problem and an execution problem. Maybe everything else on the menu is spectacular... but what we ate was poorly concieved dishes of food that looked fancy but did not taste good. For $240 for 3 people, this place needs to deliver well above it's current level. read more

They need to figure out their identity: are they a sports bar or a date night restaurant with city vibes? Their marketing (photos, menu, Eater article) would suggest the latter, but the in-person reality is the former. Big screen TVs indoors, lighting that is too bright, uncomfortable outdoor patio seating with a layout that makes the place feel very casual. The patio seating was so hard and uncomfortable that we asked to move inside. The menu pricing is high and implies a top tier dining experience, but we felt it was more of an above average sports bar quality. Definitely not on par with other date night spots in the North Shore (Pomeroy, Deer Path Inn, Sophia Steak, etc.). Management really needs to pick a lane, or this place will continue to miss the mark and get mediocre reviews. read more

Had dinner there and have to say good was only ok and service was also only ok. That being said, when the owner heard that we didn't have a great experience he called me! How great is that! Then he offered me a gift card which I said was not necessary and he insisted. With that kind of customer service you can be rest assured I'll be back and give it another try. I've been really excited to see what the revamp of one of our favorite spots would be like, and now I can't wait to get back to this gem. I had a mezcal cocktail that exploded with a refreshing citrus punch. The watermelon and burrata salad was so dang tasty. Between the three of us, we tried the branzino, halibut, and tuna. My tuna was so well cooked and studded with peppercorns. I tasted the other two, which somehow surpassed my bad ass tuna. I wanna come back and horde my own halibut dish. Our request for a quiet table was met beautifully. Our server, Kat L., was excellent, finding delightful mocktails for us, and checking on us often. My salmon, served with a nigiri glaze and lime-serrano butter, came with pea pods and other greens, and was delicious. Food was good but ambiance is confusing. Ambiance way below food in terms of rating. Got sat on patio for dinner despite having a reservation but eventually moved indoors after requesting. We were eventually sat directly in front of a TV, which feels like are everywhere, and lighting is off throughout the restaurant. I'd recommend it for a night out with the boys but not a date night, and sadly it's priced like a date night spot. I probably wouldn't go back. read more

Dined at Deere Park for the first time last night, having never dined at Greenwood. Our table of 4 overall thought it was ok, but nothing really stood out. The daiquiri on the menu tasted like straight rum and really had no extra flavor. My wife really like her margarita, so that was a plus. We started with the focaccia and it tasted more like Italian bread and had no flavor of anything else. The butter it came with was great. The lobster app was good, but the broth was like straight miso soup and nothing special. For dinner, we sampled the chicken, branzino, halibut and endive salad. The endive salad was not much like we were expecting, so that's on us as it was a lot of endive and no other lettuce. The chicken itself was well cooked, but there was not a lot of flavor and no spice as the waiter explained it would have. The frites were cooked to perfection, but the main dish was ok. Our friend had the halibut and really liked it, while the Branzino was just ok. The server while nice, was really slow and it seemed to take a while to get drinks and then get him back for ordering. Once we ordered it all came at a good pace. So, overall, not my favorite meal, but it was ok. read more
