I just went in for a basic hair trim and told Amanda I'm up for whatever but that I have a wedding later this year (which she is doing my hair and can't wait). The entire next day people complimented my hair, I don't think that has happened in a long time after a hair cut. She gave me exactly what I wanted and is the first hair stylist that truly just gave me the perfect cut without direction from me. I ended up walking away obsessed. I'm really looking forward to returning, and more importantly for her to do my wedding hair! BONUS: If you are a dog lover her two precious pups were in the shop when I was in. I'm so disheartened because I was hoping I'd be leaving a good review.. I called last Thursday to…read moreschedule an appointment for Saturday & everything was fine. I called Saturday morning to confirm my appointment but Amy at the front desk let me know I was not on the schedule even though I just scheduled two days prior.. they were able to fit me in 45 min after said appointment time anyways so I didn't get upset. Once arriving I was told I'd have to wait an additional 30 min which was confusing but I had time in the day to wait (ended up being almost 45 min of a wait) The service I wanted, I got talked out of by Tina the hairdresser but I trusted her word since she is the professional. I ended up getting a "curly cut" instead. My experience with her actually was good, customer service wise. It's not uncommon to leave a salon with damp or wet hair to air dry for curly hair (your preference) so while wet I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary plus the employees boasted about how good my hair turned out!! I get home and at this point my hair is lightly damp, my husband looks at my hair from outside the window & is SHOCKED. He couldn't believe the way my hair turned out & told me to look at it. I look at it in my phone camera and the "layers" Tina put in were chunks. I show a friend who is a hair dresser & she was appalled by how horrible the hair does not blend. I also asked for no length taken off and my overall length is shorter. I called to let Amy know I was not satisfied and what are my options. She lets me know she will talk to the owner about coming in to get it fixed. I told her I'm not sure I want to because since my left side is so short, I would have to go even shorter on my right side just to match it which was not the goal from the beginning. My original service had nothing to do with a haircut, I just trusted Tina's professional opinion to save my curls from having a baby 7 months prior. Amy lets me know she will discuss a refund from the owner Monday when she is back in the salon. George sends me an email Monday late afternoon but I didn't get to it until yesterday because of work. When I call, I'm told if I don't come in to get it fixed (which I already discussed why I declined that option) that I could come in M/W/F when the owner is in to see if my hair is worth a refund (Forgot to mention I was asked to send pictures and/or videos of my hair Saturday when I originally called & did so). I let George who was extremely kind & understanding know that I'm a full time working Mom & with my husband & babysitters' schedules, I can only come in on Saturdays. The owner from my understanding through communication would not work with me & refused to refund this service. I'm at a loss & will not be getting a refund unfortunately. It's also unfortunate that the owner Terri/Terry (unsure how her name is correctly spelled) cares more about money rather than a returning customer who just wanted to feel good in her skin after just having a baby not too long ago. I have plenty of friends who are business owners in the beauty industry that agree that this was a poor way to handle this situation. I can understand if I spent hundreds of dollars and took up hours of time that someone else could have been serviced, but I paid under $60 and it took about an hour - hour and 15 min in the chair total. Other than the dissatisfaction of the hair cut, this review is mainly to point out how this business can better handle a situation like this in the future.

The Soap Box Salon is a little modern miracle in the middle of downtown, I have walked by this…read moreplace 1,000 times and never even knew it was there. I finally got a chance to go in during an event. After that I was convinced this was a place I could get used to! If you live downtown you know, finding a salon is few and far between. A salon that you feel comfortable in, isn't a million dollars, and that takes care of you when you are there. This is what you will get here. The owner and the girls that work there are all young and full of energy. They are up on the trends, and can give you anything you ask for. The best part of Soapbox for me is the relaxing atmosphere. How many pop-up salons do you see that have old 80's hair posters plastered on the walls and horrible colors that make you want to put your eye out. Not this place; cool blue hues, and relaxing serenity greens fill this sleek urban salon and make you feel relaxed and comfortable. Now on to Miss Natalie. Natalie was my stylist and I was seriously so annoying and I cannot believe she put up with my crazy schedule. I literally called her two days before and was having a hair meltdown. She came in on her day off to do my hair and I was forever grateful. Since it was my first haircut you get 50% off which is a great deal. For each additional person you bring in you get another 50% off. Whattttt?? Great deal. I got a cut and color, and I am super serious about my hair. Natalie took everything I said and basically made my hair come to life. My poor blonde hair had those gross drab yellow tones and she gave me a fresh new color that was even better than I thought. I was a little nervous about getting a couple different colors in my hair but she was totally right now it isn't so monochromatic and I'm so satisfied with how it turned out. Let this be a lesson to all, they actually know what they are talking about!! One thing, they are a little pricer, but once you see the level of experience and skill (at least with Natalie) you will never have to worry if it's worth the money, because you know you will leave happy. Highly recommend, and thank the LORD I don't have to drive anywhere outside the 275 loop to get my dang hair done anymore!!!

I am honestly appalled by the way I was treated today. I received a call saying I had missed my…read moreappointment, even though I had tried multiple times through both text messages and phone calls to cancel it beforehand. The very first thing said to me when I answered was, "You missed your appointment," in an incredibly rude and condescending tone. I wasn't even given the opportunity to explain the situation before being interrupted and argued with. What makes this even more frustrating is that if the receptionist had simply been kind and professionally explained the cancellation policy, or stated that they had not received any indication that I was canceling, I would have completely understood and comfortably obliged. I am not someone who argues policies -- I understand that when you sign up for something, you agree to those terms. However, it was the rude, disgusting, "mean girl" tone from the very beginning that completely set the narrative for the entire conversation. The behavior and attitude I experienced were unbelievably unprofessional and unnecessarily hostile toward someone who was once a prospective client. I will also be attaching screenshots showing my attempts to cancel the appointment through text, along with the multiple phone calls I made beforehand. Customer service and professionalism clearly need serious improvement. We don't support mean girls. Also to Anna I don't know you but that did not look good on your name
