Food is pretty good. My husband loves BBQ and always picks this in our Friday night takeout rotation. The beef brisket is our favorite I really wish they had baby back ribs the ribs they offer aren't very tender as baby backs are. read more

Interesting bbq place here in frederick. I got the pulled pork sandwhich with fries and will say it was decent. The meat was fairly juicy, the fries were pretty standard. They have a wide selection of sauces. There was nothing about my meal which made me want to come back, but to be fair, I will go here again and try something else. read more

Awesome place, great atmosphere. We ordered hamburgers, fries and chicken wings. Cooked nice, ingredients seems fresh, good mix of ingredients in the hamburger. Stuff was very friendly. We can say that this is one of the best BBQ spots. Would definitely check more dishes here. read more

This place was great! Portion size was decent and the sides of cole slaw & beans were mighty fine. They had Rib Nights on Tuesday for $17 person. Too bad we were there on a Wednesday! Definitely will return for part 2 of this east coast trip. Staff was super friendly and prompt. read more

Black Hog BBQ - Barbeque Near Me - Frederick, Maryland

Really tasty, good service. Only have done take out, so can't say anything on the wait staff.

Went to Black Hog BBQ about a year and a half ago and to be honest I forgot how good it was. Friday I getting a little hungry so I decided to run up to Frederick (from B-more) for some "BBQ". I ordered the "BHB Triple" which comes with 4 pork ribs, 1/4 chicken and one meat which I chose Carolina pork. My choices of sides were Southern Style Greens and BBQ Beans. The meal also comes with a piece of cornbread and a small side of a vinegar based coleslaw. Black Hog did not disappoint me. Every piece of meat was excellent with the Carolina pork being out of this world. Very rarely will I order chicken at a BBQ place because most places over cook it and dry the meat out but Black Hog nailed it. Meat was juicy and flavorful. They also serve "Cheer Wine" which I can't seem to find anywhere in Maryland. Service was decent also. I didn't like the gravel parking lot since I had just washed my car. Since the exit off of rt has been renovated and rerouted my in car factory navigation was a little screwed but it was fairly easy to find without too much recalculating. Black Hog will be seeing me again in the near future. oh yea the mens restroom has a flat screen TV over the toilet to keep you occupied, lol read more

Yooooo! So I'm from California so we don't have anything like this and when we do it sucks. BUT THIS PLACE MAKE YOU BELIEVE IN GOD! I didn't take pictures because I could help but to start eating. The sandwiches melt in your mouth exposing you to the two best textures in brisket... that crispy surface with a tender inside that melts in your mouth. They have four sauces to choose from and they all are deliciously worth a try. Ambiance was mellow and chill, perfect for this rainy weather. The staff was quick and extremely friendly. Our server Emily made sure we had everything we needed. If you're deciding where to eat.... LOOK NO FURTHER! glad we got this referral, now I'm passing it on. Thank you Black Hog! read more

One of my favorite BBQ places! I usually get take out and delivery from them, but actually ate in the restaurant. The service wasn't the best, but not the worst either. They were really busy and maybe short staffed so I'm cutting them some slack here. The food is always amazing. Love the brisket and ribs! read more

Neat place with a smoker out back. My companion had the brisket and said it was fantastic. I had the pulled pork with the so-called North Carolina style sauce. I found the pulled pork to be rather wet and mushy. The sauce was vinegar based, but needed more heat. Sides we pretty good. read more

I have been to the Black Hog twice. I like visiting here when I visit a friend in Frederick. This past visit I had the three meat plate with sides (pulled pork, brisket, and beef) with fresh cut fries. I washed the meal down with a Miller Lite. Dinner was excellent, but the service was fair at best. Our dinner party consisted of three guys so we were low maintance for the waitress but she rarely checked on us. During both of my visits the food was great. Service was better the first time but regardless, I would probably return as the BBQ is excellent! read more

Our group of six stopped here on our way from D.C. to Gettysburg. We had rib, brisket and pork shoulder. Everything was good and I appreciated that they have you a choice of having your ribs with sauce or a dry rub. I'm a dry rub fan and its nice to be able to try different sauces. I wouldn't call this world class barbecue, but it was tasty and reasonably priced read more

Visited Frederick with the family and stopped by to dine in . The St. Louis cut spare ribs with the dry house rub were amazing as well as the Texas style brisket , potato salad, macaroni and cheese, and the corn bread . There was kids meals available . Our waiter Emily W was great , helped us through the menu and drink menu . Would definitely go again when in town! Food and service is fantastic. read more

Black Hog BBQ - Ribs with dry rub , potato salad, mac and cheese , corn bread - Barbeque Near Me - Frederick, Maryland

Great BBQ! Two options. Carry out or sit down... If you want to sit down just wait for the wait staff. Many different varieties of bbq here. From pork shoulder to Arkansas brisket to Carolina pulled pork to chicken... And all the sauces you can put with it! Makes for a fun combination! Very tasty. Fan of Pork shoulder myself. Just ask if you don't know the difference! It's usually busy so the staff may be scarce when you need them. Like more water... Or drink? As for the sides. Not too bad. The corn bread at this location i thought was in the sweet side. I like the urbana location better... Otherwise... I would return if I'm in the area!! Try it out! read more

The next stop on my list of places to review around Frederick. I popped in here on a Saturday and was glad to see it wasn't too packed; I could have sat inside comfortably but I chose outside seating, which is small but quaint. The inside of the restaurant seems cool enough but I wasn't in there long enough to really check it out and give an opinion. As for the food, it was excellent. I ordered the Luke's Burger (burger topped with your choice of smoked meat) and it was absolutely delicious. I got a side of the BBQ beans and they were just as good. My friend got brisket and sweet potatoes and while the brisket was awesome, the potatoes were a little too sweet. Our waitress was nice enough but didn't seem to be very enthusiastic about work; it's not a major issue but it doesn't hurt to act like you like your job. Overall, the food is great and you won't be disappointed in that area. But a few slip ups keep this joint from being five stars. 4/5 read more

The food felt like a copy and past of mission BBQ staff was ok and the place felt like a mix of a deli and market

I visited Black Hog on a week night for happy hour and a late dinner. Right off the bat I LOVE that they have their own parking. In downtown Fredrick, that is unique and so convenient. The place was busy for a week night, so I figured they must be good! I sat at the bar (which is a bit small I'll admit). The bar service was great and attentive. If you're a beer snob like me, I warn you they only carry bottles here. The food was great! I got the Carolina pulled sandwich. The servings are huge here, so come hungry. The sauces have awesome flavor and the meat is tender and well cooked. If you're a BBQ fan, you've got to check this place out! read more

We'd seen the place from the road on the way to Windy City Hot Dogs down the street and added it to the list of places to check out. Visited on a Tuesday night recently with She Who Must Be Obeyed and a rescue kitty in tow. Walked in and were immediately greeted with a friendly wave and a "have a seat anywhere you like". We did, and our server brought over menus and got drink orders. We mentioned that we had the kitty along, and they were very kind about asking if we needed some water for her and a dish to put it in. They gave us a styrofoam bowl full of water and asked the kitty's name, which they kindly wrote on the bowl. Major bonus points for that from SWMBO (it was the tail end of summer and still quite warm out) and kitty. We ordered two-meat samplers to get a little taste of everything, with potato salad and BBQ beans as sides (pork and sausage for SWMBO, brisket and ribs for me). Short delay ensued while they got it organized and brought it out tout suite. The brisket, pork and ribs were all quite good; smoky and well cooked with good bark and smoke rings. They had a good selection of different BBQ sauce styles: classic red, mustard, vinegar, red + hot pepper flakes in bottles on the table. We wern't as impressed with the sausage; it was ok, but needed garlic or jalapenos because it was quite bland and somewhat greasy. Of all the choices, it was the only one that required adding sauce. We tried it and generally left it to take home (it was better for breakfast the next day). The ribs were very meaty and cooked to the fall-apart stage, so it was easy to get the bones out - they had a choice for wet or dry ribs, we went for wet as I don't hold with that dry stuff. Messy, but tasty. The potato salad and beans were very good. The potato salad bordered on a bit sweet for my taste, and I'm not a great fan of mayo in quantity, but there was enough dill and potato chunks to make it tasty. The BBQ beans were great; thick and mixed with chunks of brisket. You could easily eat them with a fork, and a couple squirts of red sauce mixed in made for yummy eating and scraping of the bottom of the containers. They checked in several times during the meal and asked about the kitty, who ended up making a guest appearance to be oohed and ahhed over outside the back door of the kitchen. Wet towelettes were available, as was a roll of paper towels, and they got us a takeout container for the abovementioned sausage. Meal for two and cat: about $38 with drinks and tip included, which we thought was pretty reasonable. I think the meat was good; I liked it, but SWMBO prefers Mission BBQ for religious reasons, so we agreed to disagree and give it another try in a week or two. (ps -- rescue kitty now has his very own set of forever people, so he's a much happier camper now, but I'm sure he appreciated the extra attention.) read more

I love BBQ I love it I love it I love it. Frederick is a cool town and black hog is a great spot. I love the simplicity of the space with the cool neon signs. Love this place. As soon as you walk in your overtaken by the overwhelming fragrance of smoked meat. The Arkansas brisket is amazing. I could also eat a whole plate of their greens and coleslaw. We tend to be coleslaw snobby this place had great coleslaw. It's a pretty busy little joint with great variety of wine and craft beer. read more

Black Hog BBQ - 3 meat platter split on 2 trays for the wife & I. - Barbeque Near Me - Frederick, Maryland

My husband and I were in Frederick for the First Saturday downtown. We decided to visit the Black Hog for lunch. My husband got the DMV sandwich and I got the Texas Brisket sandwich. Both were very tasty. The service was great and quick. The only negative is it is on the pricer side, so a family will need to consider this. read more

This review is not because of the food - it is because of the rude waiter and menu change. I have been coming in here for years and always get a 2 meat platter (chicken and pulled pork). The last time that I was there, the waitress informed me that I could not longer get that combination. I asked if they had chicken - yes. I asked if they had pulled pork - yes. But they would no longer give them to me together. I complained on the Black Hog Facebook page and immediately got a response of "I am sorry - we will look into it". Nobody ever got back to me. We usually go to Black Hog with a party of 6 but because of the lack of followup, I will be going to the competition where I can get the food that I want. read more

Brisket was dry and rubbery. The macaroni was also dry. Everything was pretty spicy so we ended up having to buy our kids something else to eat. Pretty disappointed after spending $130, the sausage and greens were the only good thing. The chicken had way to much dry rub on it. read more

Stumbled upon this spot when we stopped in Fredrick for lunch. Did not disappoint - meal was excellent, the spicy BBQ sauce they served was to die for, and the whole experience was very nice. Would definitely recommend checking out - especially if you want a good meal (and speaking as someone who typically doesn't like BBQ food, that's saying a lot). Also - I accidently left my credit card there, and they very generously offered to mail it to my home address. Really cannot speak higher of them or their food. read more

I'm not an expert on barbecue, but this place is super tasty. They have a few locations I hit up the one in downtown Frederick. They have something on the menu for everyone (well, meat lovers that is). The platter with signature meats and 2-3 sides is what they are known of, the pork being one of them as the name suggests (named after a rare hog). I got to sample the all the mains - beef brisket, pit ham, smoked sausage, pulled pork, and chopped pork. The brisket was my favourite - super juicy and flavorful. The pork goes great with the range of sauce they have (especially the original sauce). Another favorite of mine on the platter were the ribs - one has a bbq sauce the other had a brown sugar dry rub, both thick and juicy. For the sides the corn bread comes with all platters, then I got kale, candied yams, and fried mac and cheese -mac and cheese and yams were delicious. All in all you can get very full, if you do all that I would recommend sharing but either way it's good. They also have some pork fries which is fries, cheese, and pulled pork bacon into a melted goodness. And for dessert? A fine line of pies made my the near by Tasting Room, the classic being the peanut butter pie, sooo good. Definitely give the Black Hog a try. read more

First time here while visiting from Texas. Atmosphere was casual, service was on point, even accommodated our daughters request for a Shirley Temple in a wine glass. I had the 2 meat plate and my husband had the ribs with 1 meat. Both were delicious. Wish we had the recipe for the rub on the ribs. Portions were great and side items were made in house. The restaurant was clean and parking was convenient. We would come back here if we had an opportunity to visit again. Thanks!! read more

Arkansas brisket was very good. It went well with Mac and cheese and collards, washed down with a lot of beers. Interesting environment.

Had a delicious meal here. Only reason I can't give it a 5 star rating - The obnoxious 40-something server who sounded like she was on amphetamines, endlessly yammering on about her personal life. At no point during the 35 minutes of our visit did she stop talking. Other than that, great brisket! read more

I always enjoy the BBQ at the Black Hog. It is one of my favorite places to get food when I am in the Fredrick area.

Had the pulled pork, pit ham, Texas brisket, and Arkansas brisket sandwich. AK brisket is cubed point in their signature BBQ sauce. TX brisket was sliced flat and on point. Pulled pork was full of moisture and smoke without the grizzle taste which was impressive. Good BBQ is hard to find in most places and I thought it was important to let others know this is where it's it if your in Frederick. read more

Yummy BBQ w nice servers. Enjoyed the pork shoulder & the brisket dinners. Love the greens.

We walked into an almost empty restaurant and were seated at a table for 2 with a wall that jutted into my elbow... that should be a table for one or only used for a full house! The next 4 couples were given tables for 4 even though they only had 2 guest in their party. Two different people tried to take our order- a little confused??? Eaten there since it opened but last night was one of the worst meals there ever! Meat was dry as a bone... totally over cooked AND it was the nights special!!! On the other hand, the greens and Mac/cheese was stone cold!! Won't be our last time but, I will not lower my expectations! read more
