Oh my goodness. This BBQ is so homey, delicious, and reasonably priced too! I drove an hour because I really missed NC BBQ and wanted to try, and I honestly think the BBQ here is the best in the DMV. I feel like I've done an injustice by my short previous review. As much as Blues BBQ leaves me at a loss for words by it's amazingness, I really need to stress that THIS IS THE BEST BBQ I'VE EVER HAD! Pretty much, anywhere I go for BBQ, Blues Truck is the place to beat. As of yet, I haven't been able to find better. My favorite is the Carolina pulled pork with slaw. The fries, are probably the best fries you will ever have. My brother usually gets the Pit Beef sandwich, which I've also tried and is just soooo good. I know most people won't make the trip out to Frederick for a food truck which is just sad to me. If you want to try the best BBQ, get yourself up to exit 31 on 270. Three and a half stars. Truck is barely visible from the road with a thin BBQ banner and lettered sign routing you behind Snakeman's tattoo/piercing/leather shop. Table and trash can nearby when the weather's willing, somewhat limited parking in the shared gravel parking lot. Blue's staff were friendly, though the money-handler was under the weather. Soda beverages available. They overcharged me on a different amount than their displayed menu stated, and forgot one of my sides-- both were resolved in a timely fashion. It's rare that I like the sides more than the meat at a BBQ spot. Fried pickles were awesome, definitely get those. Warm hush puppies were light on scallion, with a good crust and soft interior... sadly served with cold, hard butter. Coleslaw was okay. Half-tub of BBQ white & pink beans were hearty, with some pulled meat mixed in. Carolina style pulled pork sandwich was pretty dry, which the cashier insisted it was supposed to be despite the menu's apple vinegar sauce description. Smoked brisket sandwich was better, though the meat was sliced thin and there was barely any minimal bark. Kaiser rolls weren't super plush. This hard to find joint is a shell of what it used to be I guess. This little shack is hidden behind a building that's for sale. I was teased with pics of racks of ribs. Those days are over. No longer are ribs avail. Heck the avail menu is a fraction of what it used to be. Want a pork sandwich? Your in luck. Not much else to be had. I wish them well. I have visited "Blues" numerous times over the years and it's always delicious. In fact, well over 10 years ago I met a friend while standing in line. We bonded over how much we love the food, and now he's saved in my contacts with a reference to the blues BBQ. I digress. But Patrick, the owner, was kind enough to prepare a sandwich for me. Not only that oh, he included Hush Puppies fries and cranberry butter. Everything was delicious! The fries are better than Boardwalk fries and the hush puppies were good with the honey butter they give you. My kids love the ham and my husband well he eats anything. I really want to try the ribs but every time I go I get the pulled pork because it is that good. I recommend this place to a coworker who now goes there at least once a week. He said everything is delicious and I really need to try the ribs. They do take credit cards but sometimes the machine is down. So glad we came across this place thanks to Yelp while in the area! At first we had a hard time finding it as it was a bit hidden behind two buildings so we missed it at first. It's just a truck with a little shack built next to it. No indoor seating. I am forgetting the exact name of what I got but I think I got the Carolina - with slaw on top and a side of hush puppies. Really so yummy, I think some of my favorite hush puppies I have ever had. The sandwich had really great flavors and was HUGE. I'm from the south specifically Dallas,Tx so the pressure was on to get it right. After discussing the menu options he recommended his brisket and ribs. And I settled on a side of collard greens and hush puppies. The brisket was delicious. Very tender, nice smokey flavor and I must say I was impressed. The ribs are pretty good also with an amazing sauce. Sweet with a little spice, complimented the ribs perfectly. He gave me some type of apple butter that I used as a dip for my hush puppies and they were really good. I love my collard greens with hot sauce but none was available. I didn't think to ask for some. Not sure if he had any or not. But in spite of that the collard greens were good, seasoned well and very tender. I loved the food. He even gave me a free soda with my meal. Great customer service. I salute you sir for showing me some Texas kind of hospitality. I would definitely recommend checking him out. They have four outdoor picnic tables under trees. Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty or pack diaper wipes. A bathroom to wash your hands covered in grease? Fuhgeddaboudit. It's hard to find if you plug the address in to Google Maps--for once Yelp's map is more accurate. Don't even try to come here without GPS on a smartphone. Even on our second visit we accidentally passed it and had to turn around. A full rack of ribs and fries is plenty of food for two adults. The fries are seasoned beautifully and remind me of curly fries...but they were not very warm. The ribs are pretty good--dry rub and smoked--the way any good Texan (my husband) would like them. They're not as good as The Salt Lick, but we are a long way from Austin, TX. We had the brisket and ribs on our first visit--although the brisket is decent, just get the ribs. The only thing they need to improve is speeding up service a bit. It was about a 20 minute wait each time we came--which would be more tolerable if it were a regular restaurant. read more

Pizza from a BBQ joint seems like a strange idea... except this BBQ place smokes their meat over wood. So it appears they have figured out how to also use that wood to make some amazing pizza! I ordered the 5 cheese pizza because it included gouda, gorgonzola and asiago - cheese varieties I don't often see on pizzas. And combined with mozzarella, parmesan, the Balsamic glaze plus the arugula topping my tastebuds were dancing all over the place. The flavors were bold and well balanced. The cheese was perfectly melty/stringy and the crust had such excellent flavor, I even ate it the next day after reheating the pizza. I don't usually eat pizza crust even when its fresh out of the oven. Next week I'll be trying the Margherita which includes fresh tomatoes and parmesan. Hear-yea! Hear-yea! You's gots to gets some Blue's BBQ!!!! This place is no joke! I'm a first timer and dropped by today to try the beef brisket sandwich and an order of hush-puppies. After receiving my meal, I was amazed by the size and weight of the sandwich. The damn thing weighs almost two pounds. The sandwich was huge! The meat was slathered in a sweet tangy, mildly spicy, BBQ sauce; which, complimented the smokey flavor of the brisket. The potato bread flavored kaiser roll could not cover all of the meat that was spilling out the sides. The hush puppies, had a tasty sweet cornmeal flavor, were fried to a crispy golden-brown, providing them with a satisfying crunch. They are out of this world and will sit in your gut like lead bricks, as hush puppies should. A great lunch value, including a coke for $10.00. Though not much to look at, this truck stand serves up some mighty tasty and filling beef brisket BBQ sandwiches. Final judgement will be handed down after I try the baby-back ribs and see how they stacks up to Famous Dave's St. Louis spare ribs--definitely my favorite in Frederick so far. In the mean time, come and get some brisket! The food can be eaten on picnic benches under shade trees. You've got to be looking either for Snakeman's or for the waving banner proclaiming BBQ in the back. Park on the gravel, wait on the porch while they put your order together, and if the weather's nice, take advantage of the picnic bench. Or do like me and sit in your car with the music blasting, because I can't stop myself from eating it all before turning the car back on to drive someplace nicer to eat. My vegetarian honey loves their french fries and onion rings. But what I die for is the smoked. pulled. chicken. OHMIGAWDDDD. They announce their daily specials on facebook, and if I see that the smoked pulled chicken sandwich is on the menu for the day, I will actually change my plans for the day so I can get there. Regardless of the weather. Regardless of whether I already had lunch. Regardless of human decency. I've also had the beef brisket, which I liked quite a bit, although I rarely eat beef. I've been informed by good friends that their pulled pork is "OM NOM NOM." I also agree with my poor, deprived, vegetarian darling that their fries are delish, although I don't think they're *that* extraordinary. Blues has one of the best taste to square footage of establishment ratio given that everything is served ... out of a bus. Ms. Frizzle wishes her bus could do this. From Carolina pulled pork sandwiches to Beef Brisket with their tangy bbq sauce they just about nail everything on the menu. Their "Crack-a-lackin" fries come out crispy, well seasoned and generously portioned. Be sure to order the fried mac and cheese! There are only a few times that you have a dish that redefines not only how you judge all others you have after, but changes your entire prospective and importance of the dish. Before pulled pork was just a last resort or I would eat it if I was hungry. If there were ribs on the menu with it, the pulled pork wouldn't get a second thought. After Having the Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwich at Blues that all changed, first the pork is served on a sturdy Kaiser Roll not some generic hamburger bun that gets all soggy if a drop of moisture touches it. Then you have perfectly made slaw, not that trendy stuff or that nasty crap with raisins, crunchy mayonnaisey slaw. Then you have the star of the story which is the pork itself, the meat is tender but not overdone, juicy, fatty, spicy, wow! The price is perfect for what you receive, the sandwich weighs a ton! The lemonade is fresh squeezed and refreshing. The beans were a tad sweet but the bits of smoked pork goodness in them saved the effort. A hint on the location, basically turn into the parking lot at Snakeman's Tattoo. The "big blue bbq" truck is nestled back there. This is really the best BBQ in Frederick, hands down. Had been to Black Hog earlier in the week, so the comparison is fresh in my mind. Here, the portion size is generous, and definitely worth the price. Recently had the Memphis pulled pork sandwich and "small order" of hushpuppies. Both were delicious. The hushpuppies are more like hush-doggies--they were the size of a racquetball and tasty. My group shared fries, which were also tasty. I could not finish my sandwich and took it home for later. Hours later, still full. This is a food truck, so there's no real seating. We saw some picnic tables around, but weren't sure if they were from the car or tattoo place. But we were prepared anyway with camp chairs and a table. First, this restaurant is actually just a van on a gravel parking lot, hidden behind a tattoo parlor. It's -really- easy to miss, I did. The owner should wash off these tables before each meal if they are actually intended for guests to use, it would only take a few minutes. Others were sitting there eating lunch, so maybe this is normal??? If you are still reading, I'll tell you about the food. They offered Memphis-style or Carolina-style BBQ sandwich. I got Memphis-style with slaw on the sandwich, and a side of hush puppies. Normally I order beans as a side. I don't believe they offer beans (or they were sold out), seemed odd for a BBQ restaurant. I really wanted to like Blue's BBQ. After living in Memphis and Austin, I admit I'm a BBQ snob. Blue's BBQ was OK, not great, far from 5 stars. I would not recognize this sandwich as a Memphis-style BBQ. But the sandwich was huge and filling. The hush puppies tasted like they were fried in old grease, and they were over cooked, almost burned. I would not order hush puppies again. If you live/work nearby and are taking the food with you, I'd give Blue's BBQ 3 stars. Skip the hush puppies. If you need a place to sit and eat, I'd give Blue's BBQ 1 star.
