Got the pulled pork and it was outstanding. Great flavor and very tender. And the sides were delicious. Love the potato salad.

I've eaten at this Black Hog location (and their ones in downtown Frederick and Urbana) many times. All produce reasonable 'que - not award winning, but consistent and decent quality. Today's choice was a brisket sandwich. The meat was nicely cooked, and the bark looked nice, but it was underseasoned. As a result, it had no punch on the first bite or any that followed. I generally don't like to put sauce on brisket. The bark and the meat should speak for themselves, but in this case, I decided to try the three sauces that came with it: vinegar (Really? For brisket?), a sweet Memphis style, and a thicker Kansas City style. The latter two were too sweet for brisket, and the former was, well, an abomination. IMHO. The sandwich came with one side. I got potato salad, which also needed some pickle pieces, onions, paprika, cayenne - anything that added punch. Not the worst I've had in town, but not the best. (Yeah, yeah, I know it's subjective, but I'll stack my potato salad against anyone's. My Aunt Helen taught me well). Oh, I'll be back, don't you worry. Black Hog serves a consistent, decent product that is the best available in Frederick It's just not close to what I can eat from any of the countless hole-in-the-wall joints pretty much anywhere in Texas. But it's a much shorter drive...

For a small restaurant they had a full bar with a decent bourbon and whiskey selection. Their menu is flexible, allowing options for various combos - so you can try whatever you want. I ordered a brisket sandwich with a side of burnt ends. Burnt ends are my favorite and I was SLIGHTLY disappointed because they weren't "crispy" like I like, but the flavor was great. The price was in line with other BBQ joints, so no surprises there. We'll definitely be back.

It was a rainy day, so unfortunately we didn't get to enjoy the rooftop, but the inside was nice and, since we went during the day, relatively quiet. First, a shout-out to our bartender! I wish I remembered her name because she was GREAT. She was friendly, personable, attentive, and really knowledgeable about the menu. Whenever we had a question she didn't know the answer to, she actually went and found out instead of just guessing. Her recommendations were also spot-on. So, girl, good job! One thing that pleasantly surprised me was the parking. I initially thought we were going to have to park on the street, but then I noticed they have FREE parking available. That's definitely a plus, especially downtown. The food was good overall. I ordered the wings with a side of mac and cheese and the brown sugar sweet potatoes. Let me tell you--the sweet potatoes were DELICIOUS! My sister agreed. Those were definitely one of my favorite things I had. My sister ordered the ribs with several sides. She ended up sending the baked beans back because they were a little too tangy/vinegary for her taste, but those fries? OH MY GOD. They were so good. She absolutely tore those fries up! I also had one of their smoked margaritas, and it was really good. It was different from a traditional margarita, but I really enjoyed it--so much that I ordered a second one. Since we went during the day, it was pretty quiet and there wasn't much going on, but honestly, that was fine. We were there to celebrate our birthdays, eat some good food, have some drinks, and enjoy each other's company, and that's exactly what we did. Overall, good food, good vibes, great service, and a nice atmosphere. And a special shout-out to our bartender for making the experience even better!

Quite tasty, but not as moist as I remember. Also, the Arkansas Brisket was a bit acidic in flavor. It appears the burnt ends were sitting in the sauce for a while. Again, all still flavorful, but to a lesser degree. As always, the staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was fun and inviting.

We opted to sit outside since we had our dog with us. The server was very friendly, with great service and they are very dog friendly and had water bowls outside for them. I am from Eastern NC, so I have a pretty good idea of bbq and BC staples. I decided to try the flounder rather than the bbq this time. The founder was disappointing. It was a bit on the bland side and the batter is a little confusing. I was expecting a cornmeal style batter or similar, but got something different. The fish itself had potential to be very good. The beans also left a lot to be desired, just lacked flavor and taste. The business looks like they do a lot of catering as opposed to dining (possible a lot of to go orders, too).

Buns were toasted to perfection and meat was tasty, seasoned and just a little bit charred on the edges. Not quite a smash burger, but better! You order inside at the counter and then they call your name on the loud speaker when it's ready for pickup at the drive thru or the counter (depending on whether you ordered it to go or not). I had a cheeseburger with tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard, and mayo, and a side of fries. The burger was classic and totally delicious. The fries were very good, too. I ate my lunch at one of the picnic tables on the property, which was comfortable and fun (but they don't have bathrooms FYI). The service was friendly, and the place has tons of retro charm. I'd definitely go back for another meal - maybe a milkshake or other dessert with my burger next time? A fun, fast, casual meal. A charmer in Frederick, just off 70.
