Lovely location tucked away in Lake Whittier area of Yellow Springs. We arrived for a late dinner (around 7pm) and it was pretty empty inside. We opted to sit outside since we had our dog with us. The server was very friendly, with great service and they are very dog friendly and had water bowls outside for them. I am from Eastern NC, so I have a pretty good idea of bbq and BC staples. I decided to try the flounder rather than the bbq this time. The founder was disappointing. It was a bit on the bland side and the batter is a little confusing. I was expecting a cornmeal style batter or similar, but got something different. The fish itself had potential to be very good. The beans also left a lot to be desired, just lacked flavor and taste. Side note: I'm still looking for my go-to bbq joint in town, but I think this ranks a little higher for me compared to Black Hog and Mission. Both are good with the meat... but I'm a sides girl. No sides have wowed me yet, but PIGS probably has the better of the three. *The ever controversial mac and cheese (especially at a BBQ joint) is...different and unlike any I have had before. It's good: creamy rich cheddar without all the baked on extra cheese- it's strangely light like a buttered noodle. Classics like the and potato salad were underwhelming in flavor. Appetizers: Wings - fried and sauced, fried green tomatoes, house made pickles, and fresh chips with their rub seasoning (the chips were my favorite!) - all solid starters. The wings were huge! Lunch: I ordered the 2 meat and 2 sides bbq platter- jalapeño cheddar sausage (with that nice snap), smoked chicken, coleslaw and mac and cheese. Our favorite thing here was the honey bourbon ribs from the appetizer menu. I wish they did half or full racks of them! The empanadas and macaroni and cheese were really good, but I wasn't a fan of their fried green tomatoes. We both enjoyed the various sauces and would come back! read more

I was thankful they were open until 9 on Tuesday night. Not busy. I had a pulled pork plate with pit beans and Mac and cheese, with an IPA. The BBQ sauces were good with the pork. Decent selection of beers. The server was friendly and helpful. Comfortable atmosphere, with some music and TV's for sports games. There was no wifi offered - I had limited reception and that would have helped me. Hopefully I'll be back as I pass through the area again. Delicious food! On a trip to visit family, we dined at Pigs BBQ. It's one of their favorite places. The lighting/natural light from the windows, together with the decor, give the space a really cool, clean vibe. We ordered a bit of everything from the standard and kids' menus. Our favorites were the pulled pork tacos, the flounder sandwich (my personal favorite), and the from-scratch mac and cheese. I would eat a pint of that mac and cheese if I could. We visited Pigs on a stormy Saturday around midday and the place was about half full. The server was sweet. The food was good. The vibe was low key and nothing spectacular. Then again, who is expecting glamour at a bbq joint?!? Not me. The decor was cute and the place was very clean. I enjoyed the jalapeño sausage most as it had a crispy crunch skin on the outside, but juicy inside. Pigs is located a little outta the way, but worth it to go off the beaten path to get there. This rustic yet modern restaurant offers take out, indoor and outdoor seating with a warm hospitable ambiance. I sat at the bar and was greeted by multiple employees giving me recommendations on food and drink options. I ordered the brisket tacos with a side of greens. I'm not sure the inspiration of the bbq but it TASTED Carolina influenced because it was vinegar based. The brisket tacos were flavor packed and perfectly portioned. The green were good however probably not cooked with meat being vegan friendly. Now the housemade sauces were great! From the parking lot to the inside, we never smelled any BBQ. In saying that, it was a very clean and modern country decor kinda place. The staff was welcoming and friendly. Was informed that the sweet tea was not made in house, so cokes and water to drink. Ordered the two meat (brisket & pork shoulder) plate with collard greens and macaroni and cheese. Very beautiful presentation. The meat was ok. Not a heavy smoke flavor to it. I'm not saying it wasn't smoked, just saying the meat didn't have that hours on a smoker taste that we associate with good BBQ. The greens were great and well seasoned. We found the macaroni and cheese bit bland. I think they were going for a jalapeño and cheddar cheese cornbread kinda deal. I would see a sparse of little green and orange specks in it. Holy shit, my fellow bbq lovers, you guys have to try this place. We moved up to MD from the Carolinas and just accepted that maybe the bbq just isn't as good up here. PIGS blew us away. From the meats, to the sides, cornbread, cocktails, and even the pickles - we are impressed with the level of thought and flavor. We started with the crab deviled eggs and then tried the potato salad, Mac and cheese, collards, ribs, pulled pork, and sausage - can't say a single bad thing about any it. Jalapeño and mustard sauces were our favorites. Loved the honey bourbon lemonade and it's creative garnish. Craft beer list looked promising with some refreshing local selections. We hired them to cater a luncheon. Just to inform, a majority of the 40 people were in their 70's and up. Everything went well and they were great!!! The food was absolutely delicious. We had pork shoulder, smoky chicken, M&C, and mustard potato salad. Along with that we also had a desert of cookies and brownies, a fruit platter, a veggie platter, and drinks. After lunch, I had many people come up to me to compliment the food. The least eaten item was the mustard potato salad. It was a bit too tart to me, but it was still tasty. We had a lot of very good quality food, so there may be many reasons why people didn't eat a lot of it. Along with the catering we had 2 employees set up, serve, and clean up after the event. Before the event, it seemed like it was kind of expensive to hire them to do all that. After the event, I'd have to say it was absolutely worth it. There's so much that goes into catering an event that you don't even realize. Pedro and Escarlett were great. They showed up early, brought everything they needed, had everything set up and ready on time, served everyone efficiently, and then cleaned up the catering after we left. Still on my quest to find the best BBQ in Maryland, I drove out to Frederick. This isn't the one. Telltale signs: no smokers, no smell of smoke, and just a little too fancy on the inside. The brisket was too dry and on the tough side. How tough? I wish I had taken a picture. Brisket is supposed to break apart with a slight tug. The fries were crispy, the cheese sauce was good, but the brisket chili stole the show! Tons of flavor (and it included beans and chunks of tomatoes). My Husband brought this home for dinner, i got the Beef Brisket, Pulled Pork, he got the same with Smoked Sausage added. He ordered multiple sides, Potatoe Salad, Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Macaroni and Cheese and Green Beans. The meat tasted good to me, my Husband said, he didn't taste any Smokey flavor in the meat. The sides were less than desirable. The Greens looked like they were marinated with a mustard sauce, different than what I'm used to, the M & C was dry, not much cheese at all, the Beans tasted like canned Baked Beans, Cole Slaw not enough Slaw dressing and Potatoe Salad big Potatoe chunks and Potatoe dressing too much mustard. PIGS catered my wedding at Dulany's overlook in 2018. The food and service was great, my friends still rave about the wedding food. Stopped by their restaurant when I was in town visiting family over the holidays. The food is still solid. The spicy sausage is some of the best I've ever had. Mac and Cheese is gooey and delicious. Brisket tacos on point. Pork ribs were tender and delicious. Brisket was also cooked to perfection. Only thing I disliked was the pickles, but that was just a small side so didn't really matter. We used PIGS to cater our wedding. Our guests absolutely loved the food and they are still raving about it! The whole team was so professional and just downright fun. PIGS was a great price compared to all other DC caterers we looked at, which gave us the budget to add extra appetizers and an oyster bar. The groom and I were extremely well taken care of with delicious bites and drinks all night. I especially appreciate that the staff went out of their way to make sure we got to try everything and have as much of it as we wanted. I loved the oysters, mini barbacoa tacos, shrimp ceviche, delicious cornbread, roasted chicken, beans, and pulled pork! Our vegan and vegetarian guests also said it was the best vegan food at a wedding they have had. Our guests were so well fed and everyone had more than their share. I also loved how the team packed us up with leftovers to take home and keep enjoying. The barstaff absolutely crushed it and were so professional and friendly. The perfect amount of drinks were iced and that helped us return and save on alcohol costs. We just couldn't recommend PIGS more! If you book PIGS, you can also use their napkins and linens rental. This place has very good bbq. Got the bbq nachos with the chili and hubs and I loved how the toppings were layered btwn the chips. Every chip had something on it. We loved the jalapeño sauce. The name sounds worse than the bite, which was very mild. Got the smoked brisket tacos and they were very flavorful and full of filling. I enjoyed the pickled green tomato on my hubs' meat platter. The mac is very good. The cornbread was meh...needs more jalapeño and imo baked a bit longer. The service was slow, but we weren't in a hurry. In from Ohio, where amazing craft brew is plentiful but pleasantly surprised by Maryland's RAR IPA (Nanticoke Nectar India Pale Ale). Amazingly smooth IPA with a sweet finish. Once my beer choice was solidified, it was time to sample the fried green tomatoes and house-made BBQ chips, both excellent. For the main course I tried the 3 meat, 2 side variation with port shoulder, brisket and sausage. The shoulder was a bit dry, even when slathered with the unique smoked jalapeño sauce. The brisket was still pink in the middle which made for a juicy and tasty delight! The sausage was good, but not memorable. Ok, so here is the thing. The star of the show are the dressed collard greens! Holy wow these are amazing, even if you don't like greens. They have Carolina sweet mustard sauce that was tangy and delicious. The bean salad is NOT what you think it is. It's cold green beans, not legumes like most would (should) think. That said, there were not too bad. The smoked wings, with or without sauce were also good, juicy, crispy, but some of the wing pieces (not drums) were a bit dry. The fact that this is all taking place in an indoor sports facility makes it all that more spectacular (and unlikely), especially considering the quality of the food. But once you consider that these guys catered 200 wedding last year, they obviously know what they are doing! read more

Around 11:30am our party of 8 (three adults, five kids) stopped into PIGS BBQ in Frederick, MD. We were sat at 2 four top tables next to each other, which was okay with us. We were the ONLY party in the restaurant until we asked for our check. I'll begin with the positives: the smoked wings were meaty, perfectly cooked and delicious. The smoked jalapeño cheddar sausage was divine. The deviled eggs were tasty, too! The service here was the problem. As I mentioned-we were the ONLY party in the restaurant. Our server came to take our drink order and I said we would also like to order a few appetizers, she said she would have to come back for that. We got our drinks in about 10 minutes and placed our appetizer order. We ordered the tortilla chips with smoked salsa and queso ($7). The dish came with 2-4oz ramekins of sauce and 12-15 chips. We also had the deviled eggs which came with 4 halves and were delicious. We didn't have plates, napkins etc. to start. About 15 minutes later the server came back to take our meal order. We ordered a second round of chips and salsa/Queso at the same time because the portion was so shockingly small for sharing. Their kids menu only offers chicken tenders or pulled pork with house made bbq chips so we paid $4 for teeny tiny sides of Mac and cheese and baskets of fries. The brisket was overdone and possibly from the day before. We had to ask for bbq sauce (they have 6 pack boxes of house made sauces that are delightful). My take away from PIGS BBQ is this: probably best as take out. I hear the catering is great! As a group with kids it was frustrating to have such lackluster service considering we were the only patrons. We spent over $150 and wished we could have enjoyed it. read more
