I just drove to Frederick, checked into the hotel and now I'd like to get some dinner. A quick Yelp…read moresearch suggests Madrones. I don't understand the name, is it a chain restaurant? Did local boy Joey Madrones open his own joint? I know there is beer involved so I grab my co workers and we head on over to Madrones. We're here during the week and the place is jumpin'! I did not make a reservation and was able to snag a table with no wait. The beer selection is quite substantial with 24 beers on tap. I ordered a Hefeweizen to get the dinner party started. I started with the Fried Chesapeake Oysters. I mean, we're in Maryland so seafood is a must. The fried oysters were plump and quite tasty. Madrones is known for their Prime Rib so I ordered a small cut to start. The Au Jus along with the steak was a perfect cut for me. Served with the right cook on the steak, I recommend Madrones when you're in the mood for Prime Rib. I finished with Madrones Peanut Butter Pie, Mmm mm! Madrones, great meal! I will return the next time I'm in Frederick MD

This is my second take out order and the second time Im looking for all the ingredients they claim to be in a dish. Today....the Emerald Kale Salad... where is my peanuts and Reggiano cheese?? I thought the thin white slices was the cheese but it just shaved cabbage.. Just a big plate if rabbit food. Thank goodness I ordered the Tiger Shrimp...oh wait..they were so soggy that they tasted like spicy paste. NORE TO SELF...NEVER ORDER TAKE OUT HERE..

Maryland crab cakes are my favorite meal. I never miss a chance to indulge when I travel through…read moreMaryland. I was excited to see great reviews for JB Seafood, located only a mile off US70. The shop is in a charming small historic building. We found parking behind the building. There was a steady stream of people going into the market. They sell fresh seafood to go and a selection of dine-in options. Many of the seafood prices are listed as Market Price. The crab sandwich was $23 with tax and there is an up-charge for use of credit card. The crabcake is thick with lump crabmeat. My sandwich was perfectly seasoned and prepared in authentic Maryland style. The bun with lettuce and tomato fresh were and tasty, too. The sandwich was perfection. The service was efficient. The clerk didn't waste time with pleasantries. The food takes awhile to prepare. I waited about 15 minutes after I ordered as they fresh bake the crab cakes. A tip jar sits by the cash register. The place is cute inside decorated in a harbor/seafood theme. There are 5 tables inside and 2 counters that seat 4 people each. It's the kind of place that you'd meet a friend for lunch and a beer and hang out. There are a couple of Adirondack chairs out front. A tv monitor was playing basketball reruns. The crab cakes can be purchased unbaked to go (along with a host of other seafood). There is a small full bar and coke products. They also serve ice cream, which is what many of the families were stopping for on this hot summer day. I will make JB's a regular stop on my way through Maryland. Well worth a visit.

This can be fancy or casual, choose your own adventure... it is huge inside!…read more I opted for the outside area, warm sunny day and i didn't want to be inside. Very old school dark banquet hall type. Not for me today. The hostess got me to my table, it wasn't cleaned so she cleaned it off and explained they could offer both lunch and some dinner options. The server came over immediately and stayed connected. Even when i didn't notice a gnat in my beer, he did and quickly got me another. The little muffins were delicious! I ate both immediately. Then came the fried oysters. They were OK. Better than most, however not the best. A little harder fry would be nice and better cleaning, a few bits of sand wasn't expected. Caesar salad good. I came for the crab cakes and they were delicious! Truly meaty like they said, very little filler. Twice baked potato met expectations. The bread pudding.... WOW!! They should tell people it will feed the table. The sauce is perfect, or just slice it and toast with bread. I was full from dinner so note my warm up recommendation. I'd come back for sure. Expensive for solid quality

The building is beautifully decorated and the atmosphere appealing. I ordered stuffed mushrooms and a cup of crab soup as an appetizer and they were both delicious. For the main course, I ordered Filet Oscar. Once again, the crab stuffing was excellent. However, the filet (9oz) was so salty, I couldn't finish it. That said, the food is so overpriced that I would not recommend it. I had heard such wonderful things about it, but "wonderful" was not my experience.
