Food was delicious and the brisket was cooked great. The sweet potato side was very good! The Mac and cheese and corn bread could use a little more love. But great BBQ! The service was great! The ambiance was very chill not much going on. Would come back again for BBQ if in the area!

Excellent barbecue last night at Black Hog BBQ. Amazing ribs, tender brisket and pulled pork. Their homemade sauces are perfect.

Once I entered the establishment I was seated. The server came asked our drink order and made some recommendations of what to eat from the menu "Texas Brisket" yum for sure and the "wet ribs" yum. My thoughts are stop in and try the food for yourself.

Beef brisket and Arkansas burnt ends

I usually really enjoy Black Hog but this order was a miss. The brisket is nothing but fat and they gave my husband pulled pork instead of the chopped pork. I know some people enjoy really fatty meat but I don't. The Arkansas burnt ends, collards, and sweet potatoes are good, though.

I forever love Black Hog! I will always refer people to here when they want bbq. Ironically I thought I was ordering a pulled pork bbq sandwich but I ordered a pulled pork platter and was still pleased! The pulled pork is juicy abs flavorful, the mac and cheese is nice and creamy and the potato salad is my favorite! The potato salad is perfectly seasoned, has eggs in it and it's just so amazing! Tip: Get all 3 sauces and mix them together...amazing flavor bomb!

Service was a bit on the slower side and I could've used a water refill but I have to say that the food was next level. The burnt ends brisket which I believe is called the Arkansas brisket and the sides were very good. The ambiance was consistent with other BBQ locations, pretty laid back with the common utensils and presentation. The service could be an issue but they were pretty busy so given the savory servings I think this location deserves 5 stars.

This was our first dining experience post-COVID. The outside seating is first come, first serve. It was mid-afternoon, so the wait wasn't too long, maybe 15 minutes or so. The table and chairs were sanitized before we were sat. Due to COVID, no draft beers are being offered, bottle beers only. The server did let us know in advance that meat prices have increased and we would see an additional charge on our bill. No real complaints about the food, it was just mediocre. The platter portion sizes were very small and I wasn't blown away with either the pork or brisket. Both were slightly dry and lacked the 'smoke' flavor of BBQ. Don't forget to try the sauces. The mustard was my favorite of the three.

was pleasantly surprised by the food here. I came with my man looking to get some stir fry from Wok In Wok Out, but it was closed on a Sunday early evening. Black Hog is right next door. It is a fairly large restaurant on a corner of this shopping/dining area. It was a decent evening weather wise, and we wanted to wait for an outdoor table. The staff tried to accommodate us, but even after paying the check, people just weren't leaving. So after a ten minute wait, we chose to get a table indoors. They are a full table service restaurant, which sets them apart from Mission BBQ ( which I really like). There is also a bar. They do have their own sauces on the table to sample like the Mission does. Our waiter was very sweet, and accommodating. And he made sure to check in on us after we had gotten our meals. My grilled (1/2 of a) chicken had a yummy dry rub and was very juicy. The greens and cornbread were pretty good. My man ordered a burger, which was on the smallish side. Liked a whopper Jr size. He said it tasted really good, but it didn't fill him up, even with the cole slaw. We aren't big fries people, so we rely on the proteins to be filling. He wound up eating some of my chicken and agreed it was tasty. We do wish to return to try pulled pork or maybe some ribs next time.

I've lived next to this spot for 2 years and never once smelled the smell of meats actively being smoked. I'll let you judge from there...

The main dining room is absolutely gorgeous with the stonework and architecture. The bar area was very busy as we were on the tail end of their happy hour. Our server walked us through the menu. We started with the ravioli appetizer. It had shaved truffles on top and egg yolk covered in Parmesan cheese. They almost had a little crunch to them and the inside was filled with ricotta cheese. The sides are à la carte as is most of the menu. I ordered the tavern burger. It came with beef fat glaze among other spreads and was very well seasoned. The side of beef fat fries were also well seasoned and crispy. The best dish was the pot roast. It was so tender and the gravy was so flavorful. This paired perfect with their creamy mashed potatoes. The service was decent but the food and atmosphere was absolutely amazing. They have a huge variety of cocktails and wine. It's a bit more formal Dining. It doesn't require a jacket or anything.

We received fantastic service from start to finish, from being seated right at our reservation time to our server answering our dietary needs questions to our dishes coming out in a timely and well-paced manner. Wye Oak's ambiance being set in a former church/religious institution is unique, providing an interesting ambiance. However, the food left much to be desired. While the presentation on every dish ranged from good to amazing, out of the seven dishes we shared only 1.5 of them were delicious. Some of the dishes were bland and one note; others were overcooked or overseasoned. We shared the following dishes: Coddies: While the cod was perfectly cooked and breaded, it had no flavor. The cauliflower tartar sauce added nothing to the dish; the cauliflower giardiniera at least added some nice crunch and acid. Savory Parmesan Cheesecake: The cheesecake had no flavor; the acid and freshness of the cherry tomatoes of the arugula pesto could not elevate or salvage this dish. Cheese Ravioli: By far the best dish of the evening. The ravioli tasted fresh, were nicely cooked, and the cheeses and sauce were delicious. Smoked Beet Pastrami: The beets were well-cooked and fantastically seasoned, complemented perfectly by the dressing. However, there needed to be more beets and a better beet-to-funnel cake ratio; while the funnel cake added some nice crunch, there was way too much of it and did not do much for the dish. Brussels Sprouts: Well-seasoned, although very greasy and overcooked. Broccoli di Ciccio: Perfectly cooked, but very salty. It did have good heat. House Rolls with butter: Warm and fine, but nothing distinct. I would try elsewhere if you are looking to dine out in Frederick, especially given Wye Oak Tavern's prices.

We were greeted immediately when we walked in and you could tell many of the folks there were regulars - like a modern Cheers vibe. My personal favorite among the beers was the En Fleur and we really liked the Penny Pincher and the Irish Stout they had. I even tried my first breakfast stout there (though I probably will never have beer for breakfast in my wiser years)! It is in the same space as a burger spot, which I think is really smart. We will definitely be back!

OMG; OMB is so freaking good!…read more Frederick has a wealth of local brewers, and Olde Mother is consistently at the top of the heap. The taproom at OMB has a warm, Cheers-like vibe (they don't know my name, but I'm working on it!). Their taps feature a rotating selection of light, sour/fruity, hoppy, dark/malty, and non-alcoholic beers. I'm a fan of their various Kolsches, and their stouts are "interesting" (I enjoyed their Morning Ritual Golden Breakfast Stout this week: looks like a lager, with a maple syrup taste that was really refreshing. Guinness it wasn't!). They also offer cocktails and wines for those poor people that can't appreciate a well-crafted, well-poured brews (pagans!). Pours are generous, prices are reasonable, value is great. They even have a selection of board games so you can while away a cold (or hot) evening by yourself or with friends. But wait: there's more... OMB shares space with Backslash Burgers (which was recently renamed from "50/50 Burgers" for what sounds like trademark reasons. Yelp hasn't caught the name change yet. You'll have to look them up under the old name for my (5 star, baby!) review. TLDR: amazing 50% beef/50% bacon smashburgers cooked to order with your choice of toppings, or you can choose from several very interesting regular offers. (If you like heat, try the "I Can't Feel My Face" burger. I dare you...). Sandwiches can be ordered as single or double patties, and can be made with chicken. Large groups can be accommodated, and there are regular events (bands, Night Markets, even a "Paint Your Pet" night are on this month's schedule) to help bring in thirsty and hungry hordes. Trivia Night is every Thursday, and it can get raucous. OMB shares a parking lot across the street with Gravel & Grind bike and coffee shop. It's not easily handicap accessible, with a few steps separating OMB and BB, and since both are self-service that could be a problem, but it's a great place to make helpful friends, no? The hours are also a little quirky for a pub (Monday-Saturday 11AM-10PM, Sunday 11AM-7PM). So, if you find your way to Frederick (and you should!), stop in for a great brew and burger. Tell 'em Randy sent ya...
