The first time I went here I was blown away. I would've given it a five stars. Then I came a second time before this review and honestly was so much better the first time. I would really recommend trying the escargot. It was really amazing here. DO NOT TRY THEIR FLATBREADS!! They are previously made. Despite their limited menu, they have a great variety of drinks and everything is really good. I'd say that flat breads were the most popular and the Prosciutto and Basil was my favorite one. Solid Eastside option for a nice and hip dinner out! Black Bottle does a really great job combining a modern/hipster atmosphere with excellent food that is fit for a casual dinner out or a swanky date night. Everything is a bit pricey considering how casual it is- but it hasn't stopped me from going back. Everything is meant to be shared, so I think going with a group would be particularly fun. Personally I've been a handful of times always with one other person, so there are only so many things you can try (especially when the blasted broccoli becomes a must order.) The staff is very friendly, attentive, and helpful with ordering- they are dressed casually more or less, but it fits the overall vibe. They have a nice selection of drinks and wines - I particularly enjoy their old fashioned. As for food, the blasted broccoli, scallops, steak, all great options you can't go wrong with. I really wanted to give it five stars. Frankly the food was delicious. We ordered the cauliflower, hot dressed spinach salad, and chicken flatbread, and were impressed by all of them. I ordered a glass of red and my boyfriend order 'the noble,' both of which we'd order again! In terms of food and drink I'd recommend to everyone, and we definitely will be back. There are 2 reasons I didn't give it five starts; the first being, they have a great wine list, and with that should come good wine glasses. Service was absolutely terrible, the worst I've had in a long time. The server Marcus rarely checked on us. Meals came out staggered - one was 20 minutes after everyone else. Two were completely forgotten and had to be reordered. We had to flag down the waiter multiple times to make drink orders. He never once apologized and was not nice/friendly to us the entire time. When the bill came, there were two things on it that we did not order. When disputed, the server was VERY rude and snippy. He was also shaking his head at the register when taking those items off. Just disrespectful all around and we did not deserve it, especially since it was a $600 bill where he made 20% automatic gratuity. Which Is probably one of the reasons why the service was so bad. I understand they were maybe understaffed like most restaurants right now and we were a party of 10, but I want to reiterate that he was unnecessarily rude and unapologetic the entire night. And continued to be inattentive when the restaurant died down towards the end. I have been to Black Bottle 3 times in the past few months. All 3 times the place was suggested by me and thank God for that! The first time was with my girlfriends and we tried the Post Melon (with and without alcohol). No guesses for which version I had (lol). After that we tried the crab dip with pita bread and Pear Gorgonzola flatbread. The pear flatbread is a must have for your first time visit. Its yummy, filling and vegetarian (great food sharing option) The next time I dragged my husband along and had the same pear bread and a meatball mediterranean bowl. Not sure why, but the pear bread wasn't too good this time (maybe I needed my vegetarian friends to share it with). The Mediterranean bowl was where my head was at through the evening (lol). I had the mango ginger cocktail - which was okay. The third time was an office farewell and I had the shrimps and the tacos which were the best of the lot. This time I started off with a Post Melon and ended up with a blackberry cider (both were good, and I wasn't paying :P) I am up for going there for a 4th time and I know I wouldn't be disappointed. Few days later, she noticed that the final amount charged was higher than the amount she signed for. She asked her friend and the same thing happened to the friend as well. She had to call the bank and various entities to resolve the matter. It took her hours to get through everything. Ultimately the manager did call back and said she will credit them the correct amount, and told her that they made a "mistake". That is not only hours wasted on our end, but think about how easily they could have gotten away with this-- not everyone scrutinizes their bill every month and it could've been easily missed. Perhaps this is not the first time it has happened in this restaurant. My girlfriend and I met here for our monthly meet-up. Validated parking (2 hours) can be found in the Avalon Towers parking garage. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Black Bottle is 21+ only so leave your kiddo's at home. An extremely limited Happy Hour runs daily from 3pm-6pm. There is a 5% surcharge added to each tab to subsidize employee healthcare, wages and benefits. I find this surcharge bothersome and will not return in the future because of it. Healthcare, wages and benefits should be paid for by the business and not by the consumers. Indoors is rustic. The menu is eclectic. Prices are a bit high (even before the 5% surcharge is added). The house red wine was not from Washington. Disappointing since I strongly believe in supporting local. My girlfriend and I each ordered a glass of Revelry Cabernet Sauvignon for $10 each. We shared an order of Avocado Fries (1/2 an avocado) with Chipotle Sauce for $6 (hh). We both enjoyed this rich tasty appetizer. We also shared the Bacon and Cheese Stuffed Jalapenos (qty 3) for $6.50 (hh). The stuffed jalapenos we okay. Neither of us would order again in the future. We also shared a Burrata and Arugula Salad with Figs and Walnuts for $11.50. This salad was distinct with a grape-fruity type of dressing. I came to meet a friend after work on a rainy Wednesday evening. I had a reservation and was seated in the back toward a very boisterous party. Overall a very disappointing experience. The food came out about 5 minutes after ordering but the drinks came about 10 minutes later. Very odd. One drink was made completely wrong (we found out after asking for a different drink as it wasn't enjoyable and the waiter bringing a new one of the original drink saying the bartender made it incorrectly prior). The scallops were dry and chewy and my friend had the ravioli that she said was too hard/ not cooked enough. Third friend got a flatbread with no complaints (well after they brought us the wrong flatbread first and we corrected them). Well I'll start off on a positive note, the food was excellent. It was my moms birthday we ordered the blasted broccoli which was probably one of my favorite things that we ate, the avocado fries, stuffed fried olives, pear Gorgonzola flat bread, butternut squash ravioli and also the fried chicken. When we asked about the chick pea dish and if he could explain it to us, he said the menu explains it, which is so rude and unprofessional! I Couldn't believe it, the whole time him walking around touching his hair and nose... he did not care about the food or service. He told us the flat bread would be 50% 40 minutes later never came and then told us it would be free... another server came over who was great!!!! He suggested the ravioli his face lit up and was actually excited to help us even though he wasn't our server. Drinks also took forever manager game bought our second round, she was nice and somewhat apologetic for our servers crappy service. When he came back after we talked to manager he threw down my moms birthday dessert and was clearly upset. We still tipped him 20% everyone makes mistakes...but someone there is not doing there job training. You can't train someone to care about their job though... Their happy hour drinks were excellent including their Old Fashioned Whiskey. I've never had bulgogi served taco style but I gotta say, the meat was tender and again, bursting with unique flavors. Black Bottle is also a great place for large groups especially for special occasions or company celebration. Love the open feel space, huge long communal tables, and the tall windows that faces the street side. Service here was pehenomal. Our waitress gave excellent recommendations both food and drinks. I've been a couple times, and would recommend coming with a reservation if trying to hit it on the weekend. We went this Saturday (party of 2) at around 9p and were lucky to get seated in the bar area. The food is good! During our last visit, we got the shishito peppers, "chola batura eggplant potato chickpeas hot" (which admittedly I ordered the first time just because of the name), and the empanadas. The peppers were great. Blistered, salty, and easy to eat. They give you like 50 of them, so definitely share. The eggplant dish is really delicious. It's almost like a thin curry with chickpeas, onions, and eggplant. Also comes with a big piece of really light bread that pairs really well with the sauce. I enjoyed the empanadas, but was a little let down as they were our "meat" pick, but lacked a whole lot of beef. Neither of us were fans of the chimichurri sauce that came with it either (we found it very oily). All that being said, I'd actually order these again, but just with some other more substantial meat dish (I recall the pulled pork tacos being pretty dope on a different trip). What I found most remarkable about Black Bottle was the kitchen's talent in producing such a wide range of dishes that were all delicious and pleasing to the eye. What I also found amazing was how quickly our drinks were prepared, especially considering that the restaurant was very busy. For my last martini, it was no more than three minutes from when I placed my order to when it was delivered to our table! While my first martini was vermouthy even though I requested dry, the next two were spot on. And at $7, these martinis were a bargain compared to other local establishments. The eating concept at Black Bottle is to share tapas-style plates. For two people, Black Bottle recommends ordering 3-5 dishes. We ordered five dishes, and probably would have been content if we had stopped at four. We started with the prosciutto and béchamel flatbread. This dish was very good. Béchamel sauce generally contains nutmeg, a spice that a little bit of goes a long way. Fortunately, Black Bottles béchamel sauce only had a modest amount of nutmeg. Our next dish was Gorgonzola Cream Chicken. This was absolutely our favorite dish of the evening. The gorgonzola sauce was divine and the chicken well-seasoned and tender. The asparagus that came with the dish was cooked perfectly. Just about as good as the chicken were the lemon bacon-wrapped scallops with "frizzle-kale". The scallops were tender and the amount of lemon flavor was just right. The crispy kale was excellent. The duck breast was also very good. Our server told us that it had been marinated in tea. The burrata arugula salad with figs and walnuts was very good. The burrata cheese was the best part of the salad. At first glance, burrata looks like a poached egg. But actually, the tasty burrata is a very soft ball of mozzarella cheese containing cream. While my dining companion totally loved the acidic dressing on the arugula leaves, I found it to be borderline too tart. For dessert, we tried the Cacao Nib Mousse Tort. Accompanying the mousse that contained a rather spicy-hot chili seasoning was whipped cream and two chocolate-banana flavored candy squiggles that were shaped exactly like little Christmas trees.
