If I could have guessed, he had a very long night and just out of of bed without brushing his long hair. No one checked on us once food came out, and we had to waive them down for more drinks. Most of the guys that were working just seemed dead in the soul which makes me feel uncomfortable for being nice and bubbly. Someone back there is heavy handed on the salt it seems..the blasted broccoli and flatbread were too salty, we couldn't finish and didn't bother packing it home. This is another East Side staple that has held up well over the pandemic. They are busy on weekends, but the food is still wonderful and the staff very friendly, even though it was understaffed - totally understandable and I'm very happy they made it through the first waves of the pandemic. It might not have been noticeable had we not been here on a Friday night. The atmosphere still sizzles, and it ranges from groups to intimate dates and is great for both -- but the cocktails are on the way too sweet side for me. I cannot go wrong with their wines though, so sticking to wine or their craft beers might solve that sweetness issue with an even better solution. I will definitely be back for more. read more

Honey and I made multiple visits to this tavern with positive results. Here is what we found during our casual dining: Natural hanger steak and daikon/shiso - $12 steak slices cooked to perfection with an interesting mix of green shiso (like mint basil and green onions) but I did not like the mashed daikon underneath the meat. Overall, not my type of mix. Pulled pork tacos - $7 filling tacos with a generous portion of pico de gallo and avocado. Better eat this right away since the corn tortillas will start break up on you as it soaks in the juices of the pork. Hearty! Crispy fried chicken with ginger soy dipping sauce - $7 Chicken was just way too salty and I will not be ordering this one again. Mental note taken. Spicy fennel sausage dandelion greens & fresh mozzarella flatbread - $9 Sizable rectangles of crunchy flatbread with meaty flavor, not too cheesy, and fills the belly. I am going for the pear gorgonzola next time for sure as this one satisfied! With drinks and food at reasonable prices and a comfortable dining atmosphere, I won't hesitate to come back here for an occasional visit. One thing to note is that service could be improved as it took too long for the waiter to take the order and to return to refill drinks. This is a gastropub in Downtown Bellevue at the bottom of an apartment building. We came here for happy hour and sat at the bar. The decor and aesthetic of the place is really hip, and I loved that they were playing indie rock in the background! My friend and I ordered vodka-sodas, happy hour chicken wings and avocado fries. I loved the avocado fries, as they're actual slices of avocado which is lightly battered and fried, and accompanied with an aioli sauce. They were so yummy, and I recommend for any avocado lover. The chicken wings were good; they are whole chicken wings in a sweet vinegar-based sauce. I personally didn't like the sweet sauce on the wings because it was too sweet for me, but my friend really enjoyed it. It's also messy to eat because it's slathered in much of the sauce. Complimentary parking can easily be found in the apartment building's garage, and also is walking distance to the Bellevue Collection. I was hungry and in downtown Bellevue one Saturday afternoon, and happened to be walking by Black Bottle several minutes after they opened. What luck! My phone battery was almost dead, so I found a table where I could plug my phone in. The server/bartender came by with the menu, and ended up recommending a (delicious!) beer after I told him which beers I usually enjoy. My second visit was several hours after they opened, so it was much busier and louder. I was quite hungry and apparently felt like indulging (both times), so I got a 1/2 dozen oysters and their steak with daikon. The oysters were small and pretty standard... nothing too exciting... but the steak was pretty fantastic. It was exactly as rare as I wanted it to be, the greens on the side were perfect, and the daikon was a fabulous visual replacement for potatoes. It was spicy and took me a little while to finish, and I didn't enjoy every second of that, but I really liked having something that looked liked potatoes, but definitely wasn't. Well done, Black Bottle chefs! If you're a gastropub fan (and/or at least a little bit of a foodie) looking for a meal and a drink in Bellevue after 3pm, I would definitely recommend this spot. Yikes. Pros: 2 hours validated parking at Avalon Towers. Parking its on the other side of the building down an alleyway. The one cocktail sampled was good. Cons: The food. We ordered a chicken flatbread, the ahi tuna tacos and miso roasted vegetables. The flatbread was the best item out of the 3 but that is not saying much when the other two were not good. The next best were the ahi tuna tacos. Plating was ugly. It was kale salad strewn over a chunk of overcooked tuna on one flimsy tortilla. Most places that do tacos will do a double tortilla and have a much better filling/topping. These tacos were overpriced at $14.50 for 3 tacos. The roasted vegetables were the worst. This mish mash of random vegetables (carrots, chard leaves and stems, parsnip, onions, etc) were half roasted and bland. I roast vegetables on a regular basis and these were not properly cooked. No caramelization had occurred and the vegetables were partly raw which created this unpleasant texture because they were all cooked to different degrees. I cannot tell you emphasize enough how bad this dish was. 75% was left uneaten and the server doesn't care enough to ask if something is wrong. Don't believe the reviews here that rave about the food. I almost always take home leftovers but in this case I couldn't leave that plate of "roasted" veggies behind fast enough. read more

Everything we ordered during happy hour was SO delicious! The standouts were definitely the tacos, short rib, burrata and bacon wrapped prawns. The ceviche was on the spicy side... so I wasn't a huge fan, but enjoyed the taro chips. The interior is cute, and it's a great spot for dinner or a date. My husband and I were enjoying a rare night out as we were in Bellevue for a couples retreat. After searching on Yelp for numerous places, we decided on Black Bottle, so we were super disappointed when we got there and needed a reservation. The gal at the front though was super kind and managed to get us squirreled away at a table. Scallops were divine, drinks good, staff super friendly, and ambience nice (maybe ever so slightly loud for our intimate conversation). Loved it. First impression of the place was meh- typical Bellevue...but now that I've been a few times it's becoming one of my favorite spots. Their food is simple yet delicious and well made. I really like how the space looks; it's open concept with low lighting and they play really good music that's at an appropriate volume. Since it's so open, it can get a little noisy but not so much that it feels like a bar. My favorite thing to get is one (or two) of their flatbreads. The prosciutto and basil always hits the spot when I'm craving something carb-y and cheesey, but don't want to have greasy food. The first time I went we ordered this flatbread and the smoked dry ribs, which were way too dry (almost like a sad jerky) but the flatbread balanced it out. On my most recent visit last night, I tried the smoked chicken with dried cherries, and it was really good but had caramelized onions on it that weren't listed on the menu. I think the dish had a great blend of spices and sweetness, but would have liked to know what all was on it before ordering. The service is usually okay but a but stand-offish, which fulfills the space of being in downtown Bellevue. The waitstaff each time I've been is a weird snooty friendly (like they care about tips more than service) and aren't very welcoming. Overall I definitely recommend for the food and atmosphere. The menu is appropriately priced and I'm excited to try more dishes! It's a good place to go for groups and a more modern date night. read more

Oh my lord! The 7 spice shrimps and bacon wrapped scallops! I don't care how many other plates of food I ordered that night. Those two were the only ones I cared about and remembered because they were that good! I'm salivating just thinking about them. They're loaded with so much flavor that when you take a bite you don't care about any thing else in the world haha, we also ordered the kim chee pork belly skewered and beef tacos and a salad but as you can tell they didn't make an impression on me because I can't even recall what they were. Our server was really nice and friendly. He came around to check on us when he noticed our drinks were low. A friend and I stopped by Black Bottle for happy hour and were pleasantly surprised. It's a beautiful space, the atmosphere was lively (5:30 pm on a weekday), and the menu was appealing. While service was slow (we went 10 minutes without being greeted at the front, another 50 after we received our food before we got our check), the restaurant is clean and definitely a hip place to be. Since we arrived during happy hour, we ordered a beer each for $5.50, a glass of wine and the fried olives $6 to start. My friend ordered the pear flatbread for her meal, I chose the arugula salad and we split the peppers. The food is delicious, there are generous portions, and we both left full. One thing to keep in mind, is there is no parking readily available on-site. They do validate parking for two hours, but having searched multiple parking structures, we couldn't figure out which one belonged to them. We ended up risking a ticket to park on the side and got away with it, but i definitely can't recommend this as it's risky and takes away parking spaces for the businesses that own those spots. Definitely call and ask where you can score the free validated parking before you go. read more

Came here during New Year's Eve and they had some hats for us to wear. Great place to sit down and share food with friends. Big fan of the dim lighting as well. Portions were pretty well sized. My favorite dish was probably the smoky beef ribs; super tender and delicious. Ceviche was refreshing and had some good spice to it; they came with some taro chips, which was new to me but went very well with the ceviche. My least favorite dish was probably the ravioli. Beautiful place for a nice dinner with friends. Definitely recommend for a large group. Most of the food is shareable so it would be fun to go with a large group and try different things. I tried emailing for a reservation for Friday evening, they responded back saying they have too many reservations. We reached there to try walk in to find the place not even half full. Not sure why the reservation was rejected. Three of us got here starving. Our drinks were served really quickly but we had to flag down our server for food order. Between the 3 of us we ordered 7 things including oysters. I would recommend about 3 dishes between two people. We got their lamb meatballs with hummus, cauliflower fritters, 7 spice shrimp, raw oysters, flatbread with artichoke and Dungeness dip, chola bhatura and pear, onion and Gorgonzola flatbread. Everything was really tasty. Specially liked the dungeness dip and flatbread. Found the shrimp a tad overcooked and the chola bhatura needs a bit more seasoning - I have to say though it did exceed my expectations. We also tried their lemon curd and ricotta cake. I like the curd but the cake had an unpleasant texture. It also has lavender bits on top which if you scoop up too many might get overwhelming. The drinks were decent, I like my Moscow mule but my friend wasn't a fan of their margarita. The service was not great. Our server seemed almost indifferent?! He wasn't smiling at all, he used to take our order and walk away almost hurriedly. Maybe was having an off day? We were too busy with the food so it didn't bother us much. My partner and I came in on a Wednesday for date night. We had a reservation but the host sat us with a separate corporate event. Kind of weird but not the end of the world. The most disappointing thing was the food and drinks themselves. I ordered a cocktail that was undrinkable and my partner ordered a cider that was fair at best. We got two plates to start: the cauliflower and a flatbread, with the intention of ordering more. However, they were both really bad. We decided to just pay for what we'd ordered and cut our losses. Really disappointing. Far better places in Bellevue to go. The staff was good though and I'm sure everyone is trying their best with labor shortages/covid. read more

We ate here this week using a gift card from my brother (our first time). The restaurant is very spacious with a high ceiling and an industrial chic look. Conversations are a bit difficult with the acoustics but the overall impression was positive. Our server was prompt, courteous and friendly. The menu has lots of interesting dishes in sharable sizes. They had a nice selection of local craft beers, some from lesser known breweries. With those positives, I've gotta say we were a bit disappointed in our food choices. The bacon wrapped scallops were very chewy, with the scallops seemingly overcooked and the bacon undercooked. I bit into a piece of toothpick in one of them (yuck!). The cauliflower fritters were quite tasty, with an ample amount of spicy sauce but a bit soggy, with only a hint of being fried. My wife felt the chicken bites were over salted with the dipping sauce under seasoned and the spinach salad was a bit bland (she found a spoiled hazelnut in one bite). For the amount spent, I felt this should have been a better meal. read more

Hard not to dislike a tapas place where the focus is truly on a diverse set of unique, small plates that are wonderful for sharing. We had the following plates: 1. Shishito Peppers: perfectly charred, not hot at all, should be enjoyed by everyone 2. Pear and Gorgonzola Flatbread: Probably too much for one person, but perfect and long for sharing. Delicate blend of flavors - sweet and savory. 3. Blasted Broccoli: Quite a large plate of wonderfully cooked broccoli. Wish it came with some kind of sauce. 4. Stuffed Olives: This was a surprising winner. Cheese-stuffed and fried Olives. Who knew? Delish. 5. Beets and Cheese: This was an interesting concept that I couldn't really get behind. Imagine shaving a beet into slices and then layering them to resemble a pasta-less lasagna and then top with cheese. This was my least favorite dish. 6. While my friends had drinks, I finished the night with a raspberry-rhubarb upside down something that was amazing. I've been going to Black Bottle periodically for all of the 4 plus years I've worked in Bellevue. This is one of the most consistently enjoyable dining establishments in the area. Back Bottle takes a "small plates" shared item approach with dinner parties (while ensuring that "it's OK to keep an item for yourself if you don't want to share") so dining with friends and adult family makes this a great shared experience. Last evening, enjoying dinner with my spouse and 2 of our friends, we found the food, environment, and service to be a complete hit. Emmentaler crusted beets are a perennial favorite (I want this recipe!), the Chola Batura, featuring chic peas and eggplant rounded out our veggie choices. Oregon short ribs, Gorgonzola chicken, and Dungeness artichoke bake rounded out our selection. Only the chicken fell slightly below the bar of "thoroughly enjoyable and original", but was acceptable nonetheless. Service, as always, was Bohemian, timely and excellent. If you are in Bellevue, if you have good friends who enjoy a bottle of wine, and a shared food experience, this spot is well worth the time and investment. read more

Been to Black Bottle several times in the past. Went last night, restaurant was over half empty for a 6:30pm reservation which is unusual since it's usually busy on a weekend. Good service, food came out pretty quick. Blistered shishito peppers were good, like most shishito peppers you find on any menu or even make at home. Wish there were a few more shishitos on the plate. Came with a butter and lemon sauce. The spicy butterfly shrimp were also decent. The deep fried heads were cooked well but needed more seasoning. I think serving the butterfly shrimp with something like shrimp crackers would help round the dish out. The duck breast was cooked well but needed some au jus to offset the dryness of a duck breast. Overall a decent place to have a dinner for the 21 and over crowd. read more

I met a friend at Black Bottle for dinner on a Tuesday night, and the place was packed! We weren't able to finish up work in time to take advantage of their happy hour (3-6pm), but I'm guessing some of the crowds were leftover from the window of discounted drinks and food. Regardless, the HH deals aren't insane, so I didn't feel bad paying full price. We settled in with our drinks (No-Li Spin Cycle Red Ale for me!) and perused the menu, ultimately deciding to share the lamb meatballs and sumac hummus ($14), bacon lemon scallops with frizzled kale ($18) and burrata arugula salad with figs and walnuts ($12). The food came out pretty quickly and as each dish was ready - which I love! - and the portions were a nice size for sharing. While everything was good, nothing was out-of-this-world delicious. The lamb meatballs were the largest plate we ordered, with a mix of pickled vegetables and olives to accompany the hummus, but the meatballs were pretty dry. The service was great, however, so we still tipped well! I'd like to return for HH to try the avocado fries and walk away with a smaller tab, but overall it was still a good experience! read more

After reading so many stellar reviews I'm disappointed to say that Black Bottle is only okay to me. Maybe it's because I live in Capitol Hill and there are many more options for happy hour than in Bellevue? The restaurant is nice; it's clean and modern. I'm a stout drinker and there was only one available so that was pretty disappointing. Cocktails were about the price you would expect. The best thing I had was the Pear and Gorgonzola flatbread. It's not something I would crave or specifically come back for, but I enjoyed eating it while I was there. We also had the bacon wrapped scallops which were fine, but were pretty flavorless. Lastly we had the bulgogi tacos which were also pretty flavorless. Overall, nothing really stood out to me. The portions were pretty small for the price tag as well. I specifically remember sitting down and thinking to myself this was going to be expensive after a quick look over the menu. I was right and left not very full and regretting spending so much for what we got. On top of that they only have 2 hours of validated parking. My friends and I met here thinking it would be a great place to catch up, but 2 hours felt super short and we ended all going to my friend's house for additional time to talk. Overall it's a fine place if you don't mind the above average price for the average food. I don't think I will personally be returning. read more

When I was looking for a restaurant in Bellevue I like reviews, I like what I was seeing so I thought this might be a good spot. It was also just five minutes from the hotel I was staying at. They do a good job mixing class with industrial. This place has great window seats for people watching. The menu does not have a real specific cuisine. You can get Brazilian Chicken, a few different flat breads, Mediterranean meatballs, Pacific Northwest short ribs... I had the Brazilian chicken. Companion had the gorgonzola cream chicken. The server told us that these two meals take a bit longer than everything else on the menu but that was OK. The food was really good. The Brazilian came with a ton of rice. I love rice but this was a bit much for me and a little difficult to eat with a fork. One tip I will give. The staff here does not really have a uniform look. The only way to know they're working is to see them wearing a server's apron. We have already talked about going back my next time up there read more

Food: the food was good, came here with a group for a birthday and we shared everything so we were able to try a bunch of items on their menu. My favorite thing was the fluff of frizzled kale they put under the scallops lol. The other thing I really enjoyed was the head of the shrimp for the seven spice shrimp. The shrimp itself was normal, but the head was fried to a nice creamy crisp and it was seasoned so well. Kind of weird how I enjoy the "decor" of the plate rather than the main thing on the plate. Atmosphere: nice dining area, very flexible decor, could dress up and go out for the night or could come by to grab food in jeans and tees. Service: terrible. She sat us down, barely giving us time for the menu, then rolled her eyes when we said we needed more time- even when half the party wasn't even there! Throughout, I mentioned it was my friend's birthday and she showed no acknowledgment. We didn't come for freebies so it's fine if you don't give out free songs or ice cream but at least as our waitress say "happy birthday" to her! Nada. When the check came, it was about $300, I gave my card to pay for the whole table. She came back and announced it to everyone it's been declined. I told her it's a debit and I have more than enough money in there to cover this meal, and I am leaving for a trip tonight so I had it on travel mode, it must have flag it as fraud protection, can you please try again. She looked at me, scuffed and yelled out "I did, twice, your card doesn't work". The whole table was silent. Went here right when they opened for happy hour and it was pretty nice cause that meant absolutely no other customers. It was my first time there and the waiter instantly stood out to me with how kind he was. All smiles and very helpful with recommendations as well as attentive service. My friend and I ordered the chicken and sun-dried tomato flatbread, the cheese filled olives, and fried chicken with soy sauce dip. First off, the flatbread, HOLY COW it was the absolute best flatbread I've ever had. Not even exaggerating, it was so amazing. The dough was soft yet held and it had enough flavor to compliment the chicken and other toppings. The other two dishes were also really good!
