Walking in, I thought, ok, looks fun, kind of basic, could use some art on the walls. Drink list is extensive. Appetizers menu looks detailed and long. The drinks were solid. The owners must have owned a bar, because they are great. Now the food and service. Food. Not so much. We ordered several dishes to share with friends. Two of the dishes had nuts and were not listed on the menu. We had to ask twice if the in fact two of the dishes had nuts. In fact they did. On the second time, they told me the owners don't like to list all the ingredients. Bad idea when it comes to nuts, any nuts. Health departments have strict guidelines on how to handle nuts. So back to my original comment, they must be bar owners not restaurant owners. No offer to replace anything, no apology, no concern, nothing. The flatbread was a pre-purchased flatbread base from a supplier, nothing at all special. The cauliflower was tossed in a sauce when it said they were braised. As for the farrow salad, I wouldn't know because I couldn't eat it, nuts which looked like farrow. Beware. The flatbread had pine nut pesto. No where on the menu does it say pine nuts or pesto. On to service. I would suggest getting some servers that care. We had multiple people serve us. We had to wait several times to order more food, ask questions, and 20 minutes to get the bill. Needless to say, ONLY go for a drink if you have time on your hands. Plenty of other places to go out. read more

Was really hoping to like this place, but was slightly disappointed despite all the great reviews. We got here at 7:15pm on a Friday evening. We had just caught a fun Snowflake Lane showing, and thought the restaurant might be crowded, but we luckily got a table right away. We ordered the crispy chipotle pork wontons with salsa verde cilantro, lamb meatballs and sumac hummus, and seared yellowfin sashimi with asparagus salad. The wontons were purely just pork and fried wonton skin. I thought there'd be more ingredients or veggies in the mix. The lamb meatballs were tasty, though slightly overcooked. The plate also came with a bunch of mixed olives, peppercinis, and sundried tomatoes, plus tzatziki sauce. The accompanying hummus was okay, but felt like it could use something more. And finally, the sashimi was probably the best thing we tried. The asparagus salad was tasty, slightly over-sauced though. And the seared sashimi hit the spot. Service was good, and I'm sure this place does great during happy hour. If I'm ever back in the area, I'll probably try one of the new pop ups down the street near Lincoln Square. read more

Black Bottle looks like an awesome hang out place with a great small plate menu. Our food was really great overall with our least favorite probably being the gruyere beet wedges. The large open space with a fireplace in the back was maybe 20% full on the Friday after Independence Day, and the staff were eager to please. This contrasted to the host who insisted on putting us at what looked like the absolute worst table in the house - a small table for two in a far corner. I totally dig that when the place is jumping and they hope the next customer will take the bait but not at this price point (we spent $130+ for two) and plenty of other seating available. Overall we were not impressed yet it shouldn't deter us from a second visit when the opportunity presents itself! read more

There is no way these people can pass a health inspection. They serve you food in FILTHY dishes paired with even FILTHIER utensils. The food here was good but it wasn't special enough to make me eager to come rushing back given the price point. Perhaps my group chose the wrong dishes but we did get a variety. To start off we got the bite sized fried chicken and that was one of the tastier items. The seven spice shrimp followed and it had some good flavor but for only a handful of shrimp at $15 I wouldn't order it again. The broccoli blasted was a crowd pleaser as we all got plenty of flavorful broccoli. The smoked chicken flatbread was a good shareable item that fit with the menus theme but it wasn't one of the taste standouts as the crust was a little overdone. I was very excited about the empanadas but they were probably the biggest letdown of the night. The service was a bit slow and the Kid Cudi music in the background was far too loud to fit with the atmosphere of the restaurant. This is my second review of Black Bottle. In my first review, I have Black Bottle a "4". The reason my review has changed is that since my first review, I got to try the food at Black Bottle. My first visit to Black Bottle was drinks only. I still think the drinks at Black Bottle was great and I think it is a great place to go for Happy Hour. They have a few appetizers offered at happy hour pricing. We tried the hummus and the avocado fries. Out of the two, I liked the avocado fries. They are lightly battered and come with a nice aioli. I was underwhelmed by the hummus- it was super dry, lacked much flavor, and the pita that accompanied it, was dry. I went with a group of 4 people so we were able to try quite a few dishes while we were there. All the dishes there are ordered as tapas style to share. We ordered: 1) Pork Belly & Kimchi- as a Korean person, I love my pork belly and kimchi. We did not expect this dish to be sweet. It was overwhelmingly sweet and I felt like it overpowered the kimchi. The quantity was great but I just did not find myself wanting to eat much of it. 2) Dry rub wild boar ribs- this was okay but nothing spectacular. We had some leftover at the end of the meal which should tell you that we didn't love it that much. 3) Empanadas- I would say this was my favorite meat dish out of the ones we ordered. The order comes with 3 empanadas. 4) Blistered shishitos and blistered broccoli- this was easily the favorites out of what we ordered. However, both were just simply flavored with salt and pepper and olive oil. I can do this at home so why do I need to pay to eat this at a restaurant? 5) Seven Spice Shrimp- this was probably my favorite favorite out of everything we ordered. I liked the flavor and I liked how it came with fried shrimp heads. If that grosses you out, you should not order this. Overall, I think Black Bottle has great cocktails and is a perfect place to go for happy hour. However, I felt the food was just okay. read more

We've gotten the flat bread both times we've went and enjoyed it greatly and they make a mean Manhattan to go with it. I was disappointed in Black Bottle after reading the reviews and I'm honestly surprised it's got such a high rating. I will say that the staff was very friendly and helpful but that was probably the best thing about this place besides the central location. The Drinks -My husband got a beer and it showed up with way too much foam. He couldn't even tell me if he liked it until he got to the actual beer, about an inch down the glass. -I got the fresh strawberry lemon drop which wasn't bad but for the prices, I'd be better off drinking at home. The Food -Blasted Broccoli: Dry, underseasoned and super basic. It was literally just a plate of broccoli florets. I've made better at home. -Bacon wrapped scallops: The bacon was undercooked and therefore not crispy enough. On top of that, the scallops were overcooked and chewy. I would have been happy just eating a plate of the kale since it was the best thing on the plate -Prosciutto flatbread: Not a flatbread. It was a thick crust, which is fine if that's what you are expecting. There wasn't much prosciutto on the actual pizza so it was mostly just really rich sauce. It really needed some acid or pepper to break up the richness. Overall, I definitely wouldn't be back. For $60-70 for 2 people, there are much better restaurants in Bellevue. read more

Fun place to go with friends and for a quieter happy hour or dinner near the downtown bellevue area. The food comes in small portion sizes and the plates are often meant for sharing which the server should explain. While the food was decent the drinks were significantly better! On my most recent visit, I noticed an extra 5% surcharge added to our bill with no explanation, so beware. When we asked our server, she explained it was for those working in the back of the house. easy to get a table on a friday night, nice inside, seems like there were a few large parties. the service was ok, prices were high. We got the pear flat bread (the sweet onion stuff on top was like straight sugar- i recommend scooping it off), and the eggplant flat bread which was also sweet but good. those two were your best bet for being full- on account of the bread. the bread pudding was Boozy as our waiter described it. they don't tell you upfront but when you get your bill at the end of your meal, there's a slip that explains a 5% surcharge has already been added. It says it's for providing "healthcare" and "benefits" and you still have to tip your waiter on top of it. is this a new thing i don't know about, cause where i come from in America, the company is required to provide the benefits for their full time employees... I've seen in fancier restaurants where they've included the tip to share with the kitchen- but this note made it clear you still have to tip your server. shouldn't you pay your staff with your overhead? why not list the truthful price instead of surprising the customer with another 5% only after they've paid and eaten? Maybe add a note to the menu then?? idk it seems sketchy... One of my fav. Unique in that you can dress up or dress down and feel perfectly comfortable either way. LOVE the food here. I've liked everything I've ever tried. My favorite is the bacon wrapped scallops. I normally don't like Kale but its so good here with the lemon dressing. Waiters are very chill and helpful. They're dressed like patrons though so it a little amusing not knowing who works there and who is just there to eat but that doesnt take away from the experience. Black Bottle Postern is my new go-to spot for happy hour in downtown Bellevue. I had a couple of hours to kill before a late dinner in the area, so I headed down here to whittle away the time with a beer or two. I was not expecting to walk into such a large, sleek, shiny gastropub, but hey, I'll take it. This spot is hip and happening. When I walked in at 5 PM, I had my pick of seats. By 7 PM (on a Monday, no less) the entire place was packed to the rafters, and folks had to wait for tables. So yes, this isn't really a hidden gem--it's extremely popular, and with good reason. The beer selection is pretty good--I indulged in some pFriem and Fort George brews, which you certainly can't find easily. The avocado fries were a fine happy hour snack. I especially enjoyed the smoky dip that accompanied them. Service was always polite and attentive, and at no point did we feel rushed despite the fact that the restaurant was clearly getting busier. I didn't stay for dinner, but I certainly wouldn't complain if someone wanted to grab dinner here. All the food I saw at other tables looked delicious! I really enjoy this place, I've been twice in the past couple of weeks and it's been a pleasant experience every time. The lightning is soft but not to dim, the place is always pretty crowded but it's never to loud to have a nice conversation. The drinks are severed quickly and I never feel rushed while I'm there. The wine and drink selection is very well picked out and fairly priced. As for the food..... I feel in love with the prosciutto basil and béchamel flatbread. My friend was visiting from the east coast and we decided to go here for dinner since it was nearby. Nice ambiance! Super trendy-looking and pretty busy but not bewildering. I've always walked past here and wanted to check it out, so I'm glad I finally got the chance. Everything we ordered was super delicious. The Pear and Gorgonzola Flatbread exceeded my expectations, and their ceviche with taro chips was super fresh. I was surprised, though, that their Burrata Salad was actually my favorite because I'm typically not a salad person. But the Burrata is FANTASTIC. I keep telling my mom we need to go eat there because I want more burrata salad. Overall, I think the price was fair for the amount of food we got since we ended up taking some of the flatbread home and left feeling reeeeally full. My friend and I are not girls of tiny appetites. I really appreciated that the dishes are kind of made to be easily shared so we can try lots of dishes :) Worth checking out, and will come again! read more

Just got to try Black Bottle last week and I already am planning to go back next week. My husband and I came here for dinner. The space was nice and not at all bust at 7:30 pm on a Friday. If you want a gastropub with great food and a great experience this place is perfect for that! We ended up getting a few different dishes and all of them were super yummy. Here's a breakdown: Spicy coconut lemon ginger ceviche- nice refreshing dish. Came with a good portion of ceviche. The only downside was the taro chips. I think there should have been a crisper chip to accent the ceviche as the textures of the two seemed to blend a bit. Still good though. Empanadas- simple and delicious. Came with a cilantro, salsa type sauce that was super good. The empanadas themselves were filled and very flavorful. Baked gruyere beet wedges- one of the best dishes I've had. Obviously, you can add cheese to anything to make it good but with dish the cheese did not overpower the beets it just complimented them. I could have eaten this whole plate by myself. House pastrami and rye w/ cheese and fresh slaw flatbread- full of flavor and delicious. Warning this dish is a bit messy, a tower of pastrami and slaw, but oh so worth it. This dish has a good portion and was oh so good. The slaw was a perfect match with the house pastrami. One of the best flatbreads I've ever had. I can't wait to go back and try more dishes. Same experience as Nikki H, but with our 9 year old daughter. We honestly thought the "No minors" sign was a joke...but it wasn't. The host offered a lukewarm apology. It was obvious we're from out of town (shout out to the Bay Area, where we've NEVER encountered a "no minors" policy in any restaurant), but as we were leaving, a super nice guy who'd encountered the same issue in the past commiserated with us and spent a few minutes telling us about some other restaurants down the street that might work for us. Honestly, what a stupid, thoughtless, ageist policy. Horrible way to start our Seattle vacation, too. We had to explain to my kid that she was being discriminated against because some people think children make their dining experience "uncool." She didn't like that, and neither did we. I really liked the ambiance of the place and the staff were quite friendly, however, there were some very odd things that happened like the fact we had made a reservation for two people but they did not set aside a table for two. Additionally, we ordered food and they brought one dish out much, much earlier than the other. It was odd to have one person in a two person group served first, have their food cool down completely, and then have the second person get their meal. I had the Brazilian chicken and it was tender and good, but nothing to write home about. I liked their cider and the restaurant was a cool place to be. I don't get what's all the splish and splash about this place. I came here after reading rave reviews about this place's happy hour, and I left not feeling at all satisfied and my taste buds were still dry. Their happy hour cocktails are extremely watered down. I could barely detect the vodka in their Major Danger, and I am a lightweight when it comes to alcohol. What we ordered from here: smoked boar ribs, pulled pork tacos, broccoli blasted, pastrami bombers, and 2 slices of pizza. The smoked boar ribs were too smoky for my tastes; I wouldn't be surprised if I found out that they rubbed the boar ribs with volcanic ash. They also came out a lot smaller than I would have imagined. Maybe that's the American in me? But my friends and I were thinking that it might have been off a baby boar. Dinner became less appetizing after that topic came to mind. I expected the pulled pork tacos to be flavorful, juicy, and mouth-watering. It lacked all three aspects. It was not seasoned enough, if at all, and so the tacos were completely absent of flavor. It was just. . . porky. Broccoli blasted appears to be a customers' favorites, so of course I had to get an order of that. What came out was nothing like I had expected. I wanted a broccoli revolution. I expected broccoli to be, well, nothing like broccoli. What did I receive? Just oven-roasted broccoli with salt and pepper. Nothing that I couldn't do at home; I could have put it in the oven at 425 degrees and let it dehydrate for like 10 minutes. . .voila. I was not impressed one bit. The slices of pizza were huge slices, but the cheese they used was super sharp. I am not crazy about cheese that's very sharp, and unfortunately, that's what I got. Not my thing, overall. Pastrami bombers were, perhaps, the highlight of the meal. The combination of very flavorful pastrami with coleslaw on a piece of toast topped with cheese was genius. The cheese dried up way too fast, and it was hard to cut through, but this is something I would order again. The real redeeming part of this place is their service; the waiter we had was very casual and nice and our drinks/food came promptly to our table. They were also quick to clean up the empty plates that we had. The atmosphere is chill; however, the wooden benches they have gets your ass sore after a while. I've love to be able to give this one five stars, but I can't quite get there. It only has two real problems. Both are fixable. There's one issue with the joint that doesn't make its rating suffer at all, even if it makes it seem less cool than the Seattle store--let's address that one first. That would be the location. Parking isn't so fun here, though they do have an underground garage in the building. Once you're settled in there and you have your validation stamp, parking ceases to be a concern. So, the parking isn't exactly a demerit, especially compared to Belltown. And inside is just fine, though all the concrete has less warmth than the brick and one-color walls of the Belltown location. Still, not a demerit--the low lights make this place nice, but if you're tempted to compare it to Belltown, it might come up short. So, on to the good and the bad of the restaurant itself. Still a great bar with a great lineup of beer, wine, and spirits. This isn't a place to find a screaming deal on a bottle of wine, though--they know their bottles are good, and they price them accordingly. That's perfectly fair. The food is exceptionally good. We had bacon-wrapped scallops with a lot of lemon in their bed of kale. We had Gold Creek oysters on the half shell. Delectable lamb meatballs. Lovely spicy shrimp. All just rolling out whenever they're finished, joining the table and making you happy. The bread pudding was in some very bourbony sauce and very delicious. We also had duck sausage. This dish needs to be completely rethought. It might be the only dry duck I've ever had, and, though the flavor was alright, it was so mealy I just wanted to forget about it. Not at all successful. But this is a minor quibble. Other than the duck, the only problem was the service. The hostess and the bartender were wonderful--super friendly and right on point. Our server, though, was indifferent and lackadaisical. Table visits often took 20 minutes, and we had a pile of dirty plates on the table for 20 minutes later in the evening. At a diner, I wouldn't care. But at a diner that never happens. At these prices, this just can't happen. 5 or 10 minutes, sure. And it might have just been an off night. It won't stop me from going back, though, that's for sure. And doubtless, next time, it won't be an issue and this place will merit five stars just like the other spot. read more

This is one of the better gastro pubs in Bellevue. It's less of a chainy type feel and the space is nice, open and modern. Fireplace at the far end of the restaurant and the restrooms are clean. My only beef is that there's been a few times the dishes I ordered weren't consistent. The sirloin malbec glaze wasn't cooked to order (over-cooked steak). Maybe I can't expect too much since it's not a steakhouse. The flavors are awesome though. Seven spice shrimp is another favorite. They deep fry the shrimp head which is so good. Mmmm mmmm mmmm. Pear and gorgonzola flatbread is a nice combo, but the last time it was a bit on the dry side. Wild boar ribs weren't bad. Bacon lemon scallops and frizzled kale is good. Kale is making a major appearance everywhere these days, which is awesome cause it's so good and it's good for you. Gruyere emmentaler beet gratin and mache/rocket was OK. Drinks & cocktails: They do em right! I like the peach blossom which is vodka, peach pulp & prosecco. Yum! Major danger is another favorite. Citrusy and refreshing. I really liked the Gingerflip: house infused vodka cider lemon egg whites in the winter. Their drinks change along with the seasons. Definitely one of the better restaurants in the downtown Bellevue area. There's also a Black Bottle in Belltown in downtown Seattle. There's parking in the building, but even with validation you still have to pay some. That's the only disappointing factor at this location because across the street the parking is basically free. Very cool place with nice vibe to it. I loved the interior of the bar, just had a neat contemporary feel to it. Anyhow, we stopped in around 5pm during a Wednesday, needless to say the place was fairly empty so very quick to find a seat. Our server was fast to bring out both our food and drinks, plus he offered a bunch of suggestions, since it was my first time in here. I found all of the food to be very good; although a bit on the small side yet this is a gastropub. We tried a range of different items my favorites were the smoked wild boar ribs and the bacon and cheesed stuffed jalapenos. All of the drinks we had were good and their Throwback Manhattan was extremely tasty, I will be revisiting this one next time. We just finished doing a bit of wine tasting in Woodinville, so we avoided the wine, but I did notice they had a very nice selection of local Washington wines with the standard mark-up; although you don't visit a gastropub on a budget, and a decent selection of local beers.
