Originally, I needed a swanky new spot to catch some happy hour with a long lost friend, but ended up ordering three "small plates" on the everyday menu. We thought we got in just in time to order a few dishes before 6pm, only to find out that the "pizza by the slice" and drinks were the only Happy hour items offered. Pizza for happy hour? No thank you. Lets go with the pear and gorgonzola flat bread, roasted vegetables verjus and roasted baby artichoke with crispy farro and garlic. Getting real fancy with our veggies today. I enjoyed the flatbread, the pears were the right amount of sweetness and covered in onions, Normally, I'm not a huge fan on onions but these ones worked with well the overall taste and flavor combination of the dish. The roasted veggies were nothing particularly special. The exotic brown and yellowish looking carrots seemed actually a bit undercooked and tough to chew on. Good thing I wasn't on a hot date or anything, because I had to pick them up, use my hands and canines to get at them. The olive or or whatever oil they used to roast these veggies had a super strong smell, taking them home resulted in a smelly car and fridge when I got home. Artichokes were good, crispy farro was a bit difficult to tell from the garlic, again stinky choice of food, but overall worth it. Super hipster place in my opinion. Waiters were dressed pretty casually, so I couldn't always tell customers from staff. We sat at our table for a good 15 minutes without being helped, which was slightly annoying. I may of had a small case of hangry, but 15 minutes is a long time to wait for a glass of water and a couple of menus. Oh well, hopefully we have better luck next time. Final tip: don't park at the Bellevue Towers across the street, because they don't validate there! Park only at the Avalon Towers, unless you want to pay up! read more

Thanks to my awesome workplace, I get to eat at a lot of cool restaurants/bars for company Happy Hours (I know, I know, #HumbleBrag). Black Bottle was the most recent venue for Happy Hour and they happily accommodated our party of about 20-25. I got there about half an hour after everyone else, so I thought I might be SOL for food for the night, but boy, was I wrong. We ordered a TON of shared plates, including but not limited to: * beef short ribs malbec glaze oyster mushrooms - seven spice shrimp * salt and pepper crispy calamari with lemon - roasted vegetables verjus * pear and gorgonzola flatbread - prosciutto and bechamel flatbread * broccoli blasted I've starred the dishes that stood out to me, but I do have to give a special shout out to the pear and gorgonzola flatbread. I typically am not reserved when expressing my vehement dislike of gorgonzola and its stinky, overpowering taste. With that said, I don't know what overcame me and convinced me to try the pear & gorgonzola flatbread at Black Bottle, but HOLY MACKEREL it was delicious. Because it went so well with the grilled onions on top, the gorgonzola was not overpowering at all (in fact I barely even noticed) and it was easily my favorite! The waiters/waitresses were awesome about clearing our plates to make room for more and checking in for more water/drinks/food, which is rare when you're with such a large party. Definitely will return sometime in the near future--that flatbread is haunting me! read more

I thought the food here was not bad but I am not big on the whole sharing thing. The food tasted for the most part pretty good. Flat breads and sharing type food. The drink menu was interesting. I went with a pour instead. We humans all have our own tastes and so with a business group you kind of get stuck with things you might like that go fast and then things that aren't so great to you that other people desire that just are not that appetizing to me while you wait for something else to arrive. I kind of prefer the individual dining experience I guess. If you are into sharing your food you will love this place. If you like more appetizer food you will also love this place.. The decor was just ok but everything was so open it gets loud when everyone is talking. The place itself I found noisy and perhaps it was when we went. Staff was attentive and service was great. Just not my vibe. Again food was good but the rest of the experience brought it down a notch for me. read more

Gave this place a shot late night after a long day at work. I enjoyed the empanadas and highly recommend them. The burrata and arugula salad was DELISH!! It's also huge- plenty to share. I enjoyed the Walnut Old Fashioned, which has a smokiness to it. Different, but very nice. An unexpected highlight was the great music-- an eclectic mix of hip-hop and R&B. I shall return. read more

We decided to pop in last night and check out the soft open. Walking into the place was like walking into a converted loft or some kind of gallery in stockholm- white walls, tall ceilings, blonde wood. The nice sun we had streaming in at about 6pm gave the place a warm glow. I'd be interested in seeing what the place looks like once it gets dark. The pork belly and kimchi skewers were nice, with the slightly crunchy cabbage balancing the softness of the meat. The bartender had suggested a vesper to drink, it was passable. Service was on point and staff were willing to chat a bit. Prices are right on target for the tapas "small plates to share" concept and the location. Speaking of location - the entrance is on the south corner of the building along Bellevue Way, it's not that hard to find but at initial glance looks like an emergency exit. If quality of food and service maintain their current level I can see coming back. Check that, I know I'll be back - at least to try things out when they're in full swing! Cute dog btw. read more

I liked black bottle in belletown location, so i decided to try bellevue one. It is located outside of the bellevue square, near the building with pier1 import. We ordered broccoli, calamari, farafel, and hanger steaks. We were thinking tapa size dishes. Turns out, these plates are entre sizes, and we had a lot of food left even after we stuffed ourselves. So, keep in mind when you order! two or three dish for two people would be more than enough. I loved calamari. It was crispy, and had hot chilli peppers sprinkled on them. Broccoli was roasted with garlic, and gave that distinct texture and taste. (reminded me of kale chips) hanger steak was tender and juicy. I enjoyed the goat cheese that came with out mediterrenean farafels dish. I liked the bellevue location better than the belletown one. Its atmosphere is great. The interior is decorated with wooden table, high ceiling. It felt less crowded and had legit tables unlike belletown location. They offer good selection of wine, and we enjoyed quite a few that night. Also, they packed leftover food in a "nicer" blackbottle tote bag, and i liked these little details. read more

My husband and I decided to check out Black Bottle Postern for a date night. I understand the complaints about parking in a parking garage, and it is tricky to find the garage entrance - but hey, at least they validate. The restaurant space is modern, open and roomy. I love small plates for sharing, and we were starving from a long day of house hunting all over the East side, so we ordered a good sampling. The standouts were the Beet Gratin, Lamb Meatballs and the Kale and Spinach Salad with warm Pancetta dressing. The misses were the Octopus Chorizo Hash and Boar Ribs (waaay too smoky). We ended with the Earl Grey panna cotta, which was rich and delicious. It's surprising that I never wrote a review for this place given that it is one of my favorite restaurants in Bellevue. I love the small plates and sharing with friends. This place can be quite crowded on the weekend so I recommend making reservation. This place has many dishes with an Asian spin. I particularly like the hanger steak with diakon radish. The cucumbers served with it is pickled so make sure to try them together. The menu does change from time to time but things like blasted broccoli and the pear and Gorgonzola flat bread are always on the menu. The last two times I was there, I also ordered the fried calamari with szechuan peppers. The first time was a lot better as there was lots of szechuan pepper. But the second time, they cut down on the szechuan pepper and it wasn't as good. There are also a verify of Asian tacos on the menu. I got tired of the pulled pork taco so I tried the bogogi taco and the tuna fish taco the last two times I went. I thought both were quite nicely done, although some may complain about the portion size (3 in each other). One of my favorite desserts here is was always the Earl Gray panna cotta. However it got taken off the menu. However the butternut sage panna cotta was also quite good. The bread pudding here is always a crowd-winner. But I recommend sharing this one since they are very generous with the liquor on this dessert (perhaps this is what makes it so good). The place can be on the pricey side. If they are busy, you may not get the most attentive service, but the servers are always friendly and helpful. The food is tasty for the most part, despite inconsistencies from time to time. Drink was very very weak and it seemed the bartender did not know how to make the chocolate martini. The side shaker glass also barely had enough for another 1/2 drink inside verses the 3 small drinks many others have received. Skip this place and go to the Chocolate Lounge at the Bravern for a quality dessert drink. I vaguely remember going to Black Bottle downtown maybe 14 years ago while in grad school. I was usually inebriated, but even in my altered state I never forgot how delicious the broccoli and flatbread was. So this past weekend I had a gf suggest Black Bottle Postern and I jumped at the chance to get nostalgic and to really appreciate the food while sober. We didn't get the flatbread as our company was deathly allergic to dairy, but the broccoli was just as amazing as I remember. We also had the mushroom ravioli- tasty but swimming in oil so be prepared to go to bed with a rock in your gut if you're having that for dinner. We also got several meat dishes that were well flavored. The service was pretty good- our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and made good recommendations. This place is a great location for a get together with a big group of friends especially since there was virtually no wait on a Fri night at 8p. read more

Ah, so nice to see Black Bottle open up in Bellevue. I'm automatically flinging stars at this review because the food I'd normally have to drive to Seattle for is now on this side of the lake. On the website, it explains that "postern" means "a side or back entrance." At first I was wondering if they were implying that Bellevue was Seattle's butt. But no, it's because the entrance is a weird side entrance that can be hard to find. You park in the Avalon parking garage, and bring your ticket for validation. Then go right when you exit the garage and you'll see the windows for Black Bottle and that leads you to the door. Nice beer selection, great food - we had the steak, scallops, and pear & gorgonzola flatbread. Comes out to a reasonable price for a nice meal, and it's probably some of the better food in Bellevue. Enjoyed everything, but I'm partial to the flatbread because I like flatbread. It's a big space, but it's busy. I'm not a huge fan of the cavernous industrial atmosphere, but I guess that's what is trendy nowadays. Service is... casual. Things were kind of slow coming out, even our beers, and all of our dishes came out separately. I guess that wouldn't have been as much of an issue, but they brought us the wrong kind of flatbread, so we had to do the long wait all over again as they made a new one. Would have preferred to have the flatbread before the steak/scallops, and instead, we ended up eating it much later. This review is only for their Happy Hour. Got a tip from a friend who said this place was great so we decided to check it out. I was a little disappointed with their happy hour menu selection as it was pretty limited to only pizza slices, some flatbreads and just their beers on tap and wine. Regardless, we ordered the Pulled Pork Tacos for $7 and a few slices of pizza for $2 each. The tacos came in 3 soft shells and the meat tasted bland. I had to put some salt just so I could enjoy it. The pizza slices were okay but honestly, I think Costco has better pizza. We might give this place another shot, but it didn't impress. read more

Our experience at Black Bottle was unique. Our group of 5 was in and out the door in about 30 minutes. Service was fast, the food came out fast, and the check was delivered fast. All of the food was delicious! The pear arugula flatbread was amazing as well as the blasted broccoli. About 125 feet from the Hyatt Regency Bellevue, so needless to say its in a happening area. We went on a Friday night and despite a packed house we felt like the service was very attentive and the food was spectacular. We ordered the following: $8 fresh sardines namban - great! Large meaty sardines lightly breaded and fried with a vinergary slaw of carrots and red bell peppers on the side. $10 yellowfin tuna sashimi poke - to die for but not a lot of fish $11 house duck sausage rainbow chard shiitake mushrooms - favorite of the evening. Every component was delishous! $8 broccoli blasted - a great way to eat your veggies. Simple and perfect. Earl Grey Panna Cotta - rich and silky with a hint of earl grey. Lovely. Of my four years in Seattle, I know I have been here at least once a year. Call it consistent, but most of the time I've been here was either because a friend suggested it or because it's one of the few tapas styled restaurant I like in Bellevue and it's close to home. Black Bottle is really only good for groups no larger than four because the wait could be quite long. Located in Downtown Bellevue, many professionals in the area go there for happy hour, so by dinner time, the restaurant is packed. Go-to Favorites: Blasted Broccoli - it's so simple of a dish, but I like it. Seared duck breast with cranberry port compote - I like duck so much and this very standard dish that I intend on making it at home this week. Arugula & cranberry with feta - this was on the menu yesterday, but it's not on the menu online and not served at the other branches. The melted feta tasted a lot like mozzarella, which I loved because I'm not a fan of gamy cheese. The arugula was SUPER fresh like it was just picked and washed. The cranberries gave the entire dish a tartness that combined all the flavors together. Beef short ribs with Malbec glaze & oyster mushrooms - what more can I ask for? This dish has three of my favorite things - beef, red wine, and mushrooms. The Malbec does tenderize the beef, but not overpower the beef. Penn Cove Manila Clams & Chorizo - The white wine in the sauce really takes away that salty clam taste along with a spicy kick from the chorizo. Describe what you like to your server wine wise and most of the time, they will recommend something good. I've tried it at least two times and both times I was very satisfied. Drinks are a little on the pricey side, but it's Downtown Bellevue, what do you expect? Service is good, restaurant is clean, there is an underground parking lot where 3 hours can be validated at the restaurant. I recently had dinner at Black Bottle, and though I'd been there before a few years back, I was reminded of how much I love their ambiance, food and drink! The dimmed lighting is perfect for a date, or even a dinner with your girlfriends. As Black Bottle serves small plates, you could order 4-5 plates which would be enough for a table of 4. We left feeling satiated, but not too heavy. Perfect. Black Bottle has all the elements of a 5-star restaurant (food, drink, ambiance, and service), so I'll go straight into the recommendations. DRINKS: Major Danger: Your quintessential girly drink, which is served in a martini glass, and includes the shaker full of the remaining cocktail. This drink lasted me throughout dinner, but I do enjoy slow sips. Doctor's Order: A very smooth drink with a punch of gin at the end. Not too heavy, just right. FOOD: Bacon Lemon Scallops Frizzle-Kale: **ORDER THIS**. 4 bacon wrapped scallops served over an amazing bed of kale that's tossed in a sauce that I can't quite explain. All I can say is that it's amazing, which is saying something because I hate kale. Just order it! Beef Short Ribs: Great flavor, but at $25 a pop, the serving size was too small and the price was too expensive. Definitely not worth the price tag, but tasty none the less. Feel free to skip. Broccoli Blasted: I'm not much of a broccoli fan, but I enjoyed the texture and flavors in this dish. It's worth trying. Pear Caramelized Onions & Gorgonzola: We have another winner here. Food is tapa style, so you can try many things, everything was good, but the best things were: Short ribs Bread pudding Prices were average. Good service. Went on a date here with my wife on a Thursday night. Definitely understaffed. At a drinks and small plates restaurant, I expect to not be sitting with an empty drink and plate (at least not for long). The waiter gave us no introduction, and it seemed as if he barely had time to take our order. We ordered two drinks and a flatbread. The pear and Gorgonzola flatbread was tasty as was my cocktail. However, my wife's cocktail tasted like Prosecco with a lemon twist with no hint of gin or sage as it was described to have. We planned to have a full dinner here, but we left after our first round of drinks and flatbread because the service was so slow. We sat at the table for at least 5-10 minutes after finishing our drinks and food without anyone coming by. I would not recommend this place for a date. I did see a couple of people working on laptops which is odd. Given the slow service though, maybe that's the customer they should target. read more

Second time at this restaurant... The first time we came two to three years ago we could not get a seat as it was so packed. Maybe due to the pandemic we were able to get a table without issue Friday night at 6:00 p.m. The restaurant was about half full by the time we left around 7:30 last night. Overall food was amazing with quite a few wonderful dishes that the chef really did a well job pairing everything together. Love the meatballs and the ribs and the halloumi veggies and the flatbread pizza. The only reason I'm not giving this a 5-star review is for two reasons. The first is that we had planned to order a bottle of wine. It was our anniversary and I was planning to buy the most expensive bottle of cab sav on the menu. We asked if it could be decanted but the server explained that they didn't have any decanters. Because of that we stuck with cocktails and skipped the bottle of wine so a little bit of a loss for the restaurant and ultimately if I wanted to come back and have wine this would not be the place I would do it. Either the server was confused on what a decanter was or the restaurant could spend a few bucks and invest in a few decanters considering the ~15 bottles of red on the wine list. The second reason was that the person that delivered our food was either a mute (in which case ignore this review) or just wasn't very friendly but we ordered four dishes and when they were delivered they were just slammed on the table as if he was in a rush without a word of what he was delivering. I think a nice experience from a customer's perspective would be to understand what you were delivering and a little description of the dish. Also maybe ask if we could use anything else like an extra napkin or fork and knife. Other than that our primary server was awesome and earned a good tip. I've driven past this restaurant many times but never made it in. My wife and I did an early Valentines dinner. Luckily we eat early. We got there around 5:45. There's validated parking around back. Garage is pretty tight. Getting into the restaurant, its a nice open and bustling atmosphere with good selection of music. A full menu with nice choices for everyone. Portions are tapas style,so don't expect a Claim Jumpers portion. 7 spice shrimp was amazing! You can eat everything. Broccoli Blasted was the mother of all fiber cooked to a nice broccoli crunch with nice seasoning. The bread pudding was absolutely awesome! Prices are reasonable and pretty quick. I didn't think it was too much cilantro but it is definitely there. My husband had the beef short ribs which were amazing and the sauce is awesome. We split the broccoli (which is what they're known for). It was good but not out of this world amazing. It did have great flavor but tasted even better dipped in the sauce from the short ribs. An owner who when alerted to this issue said how sorry she was and thanked me profusely never even offered a credit for a next visit. Just sent a bla bla bla form letter number 64 so sorry email saying how concerned she was without caring enough to offer a refund or gift card or anything. For this reason I am out as they say. Place wasn't too busy and it's a bit dark with small lights at each table. Nice environment for a romantic date. Service is great. Dishes are good, but portions are on the smaller side: GOOD * Chicken wings - Didn't catch their full name, but they were on the HH menu. Nice and crunchy and have an interesting sweet apple flavor. Also is just a touch spicy. * Blasted broccoli - The brocolli has some light seasoning and is slightly crunchy. Pretty tasty, but also feels a bit marked up at $9. OK * Dry rub house-smoked wild boar ribs - They have a really strong smoky flavor and probably because it's boar, the meat is a little tougher than similar beef / pork ribs. I'm not a big fan of dry ribs and the overwhelming smokiness isn't quite my taste. * Maple leaf farms smoked tea duck breast - I liked their maple caramel sauce on the plate and the delicate sweet potato chips they included. Nice place. Good modern trendy feel when you walk in. Sat at bar, only me and two others, not busy. Bar tender was very pleasant but not engaging at all. She just kinda ran around doing busy work, almost avoiding conversation. Maybe we were creeping her out. Food was very good. I had the beef short ribs and they were very well prepared. The only issue I have with them is that it came with nothing else but some mushrooms. Again, very good, but too rich of a dish to serve by itself. Needed some kind of starch and maybe a veggie to balance the dish. I would definitely give this place another try. Too much going right with this place to write it off for a couple of small things. Was probably just a bad night. Hopefully next time I can give it ***** instead of 4. If I am in the area again I will definitely be back. read more

Was here for a professional event, staff was very accommodating of our large party (50-60 attendees). Is a decent standby for post-shopping in Bellevue, removed from the chaos. Favorite cocktails were the Debutante (prosecco with grapefruit, aperol) and spiced sangria made with brandy and cassis - sangria was surprisingly interesting, unlike the usual house sangrias that are one-dimensional and generally taste the same. Overall, cocktail menu boasts several tempting concoctions including the Vesper (aviation ketel with lillet lemon twist), Gingerflip (house-infused ginger vodka, cider, lemon, egg whites), and Bermuda Triangle (dark rum, amaretto, bitters, blood orange). No happy hour but pricing is reasonable: Premium well drinks $5 Cocktails start at $6 Glasses of wine start at $4 Pints run $4-6, 12 on tap The venue is quite large with a loft-like feel, well-lit with plenty of windows. Pulled pork tacos were a little bland (thank goodness there was seasoning in the salsa!). Broccoli blasted, while a wonderfully convincing way to get anyone to eat more vegs, didn't seem too far from roasted broccoli. I'd suggest trying the pastrami bombers. Rich, thick-cut, juicy pastrami piled onto a toasted slice of marbled rye, topped with melted swiss and a pile of fresh coleslaw. A little messy, but definitely worth the fuss. read more

Went to black bottle restaurant for dinner. The ambiance was very good and waitress was very courteous. But, i found the restaurant to be little expensive for the quantity served. I ordered chole batura. The batura was very small, even though the taste was very good. Side dish was good quantity though. I was using main dish as side dish. I think they have to increase the batura size or serve two. It is costly $11 for chole batura for the quantity. Overall the experience was good. read more

To cut to the chase, this eastside version of Black Bottle is not as impressive and ambiancy as the Seattle location. However, I do appreciate being able to see my food and who I'm talking to. The cocktails menu here is also not as interesting and expansive as Seattle's. Food-wise, we had an amazing pastrami & rye flatbread (essentially sandwich on a pizza). It was like everything you'd want in a pastrami reuben but on a thin piece of dough. Their pulled pork tacos were also pretty sizeable portion and refreshing. The oysters on half shell were really not that impressive compared to many other seafood spots in Seattle, but acceptable given this isn't really a seafood restaurant. Lastly, their lamb meatballs with hummus was a massive generous portion and worth the price tag. read more

The thing that I don't understand about this place is "Our unfussy, rustic dishes are intended to be shared...." (quoted from their menu) Like seriously?! Are you kidding me?! The food is so good!!! I just want the whole dish to myself!!! How can i share them! :D This place is perfect for a great night out with friends. On my first visit, I was with a party of 7. They have tables that can comfortably fit a large party. I like the modern, vintage/rustic deco of the place. It is seriously a gem in busy downtown Bellevue For a huge group (with hungry men), we ordered several dishes to share: -pulled pork tacos -pork belly and kimchi -hangar steak -roasted vegetables -broccoli blasted ( Super delicious! Why didn't I think of cooking broccoli like this!!) - 2X pear and Gorgonzola flatbread -prosciutto and bechamel flatbread Desserts: - Bread pudding (No joke! really good! really really good! ) - early grey panna cotta - passionfruit sorbetto & guava gelée It was a filling meal! The desserts are super delicious! ---------------- Because I really miss the buttery taste of the bread pudding... and crave for the bourbon sauce .. I went back again with my partner. Food was amazing once again. This time we ordered: -house duck sausage rainbow chard shiitake mushrooms( Our new favorite!) -bulgar wheat harissa lamb meatballs & paneer -Broccoli blasted (Of course!!! How can I get sick of this! It is super delicious!) -BREAD PUDDING!!! As it was Sunday, there was 1/2 off bottle of wine! We had a bottle of Riesling ($15) to go with our food. This is life!
