This place is horrible. First time here, last. My husband and I came i today, ordered and waited and waited. No food. Saw customers that came in after us get their food. FINALLY the waitress comes back and proceeds to tells us that the cooks accidentally through away our order and offered us a free dessert. Really? Tells us our order is first priority. This table that had just came in, been there maybe 10. She brings them their food. We still have no food. Been an hour. We get up an leave, go to pay for our coffee. Manager graciously pays for it Wow. And offers us a free mean if we come back AFTER the holidays on a Thursday for a free meal. Let's see, I have to work. So no! They did nothing. I love Black bear but this location I will never support again. We went for Mother's Day yesterday. The Turkey gravy smelled rancid and I asked my companions to smell as well to confirm. I had eaten a few bites before I noticed the funky smell was my food. But more importantly as I'm an understanding person and wouldn't leave a review based on just that, I must mention upon leaving needing to use the restroom. Immediately on opening the door for my young daughter and I I was hit with a VERY strong urine smell. The bottom seam on the toilet was clearly broken and the drain was clearly clogged as there was a large amount of "standing" urine on the floor. Like a huge amount, enough to drench a shoe if you are unlucky enough to not notice it. But no worries you definitely will. I wish I had taken a picture because those speak for themselves. They put a cone down so this establishment is well aware of the issue. They should have shut the bathroom down completely! The food is good, but the service is average to below average. When the food is served I should not have to request silverware and a napkin. All the tables lack silverware and napkin in their setup. The servers rarely check on the tables for coffee top offs and when they do its as a side thought if a new customer is seated. I usually either have to flag a server down or get up and walk to ask for a top off. I have come in a number of times on my way to work and do want to note there are couple older servers who are very good. Quality is more than food preparations, and returning to some of the previous style of service would go a long way. The staff from the Hostess, to our server, even the busser were all super friendly and polite. They were very helpful and attentive to our order. The food that was ordered was cooked to perfection, which was impressive as they were serving/cooking for a large group (18 people) at the same time as our order, plus any others that were coming in. I know that it could have been easy to mix up or over cook things, or have poor presentation on the plates, but that didn't happen, so kudos to the kitchen for that. The place was warm, clean and not as noisy as some places get with the various noises and different conversations going at once, and that is a good thing as it makes it easier to focus on your conversation and not be distracted. The food like I said was cooked to perfection, and I've worked in the industry, so when it meets and exceeds my expectations it is an amazing bonus!! Well ordered through Grub Hub and ordered from wrong Black Bear location. Usually order from 82nd and had no issues. Burnside not so much. They are spendy but portions are very big USUALLY. Order two breakfast meals. One was so little of portions it was ridiculous. Potatoes where almost raw bland taste on both orders. Muffin was hard and old looking. Omelet bland with little to no cheese. I expect more when you are paying 15 + for a meal. Extremely dispointed and this location needs to up there game alot. read more

Went for dinner this past Sunday and my husband ordered bacon cheeseburger and onion rings. They put 5 onion rings on his plate. We couldn't believe it. I ordered the same thing but with fries. Thru gave me more than enough fries. He asked him if this is normal, the waiter Eric ( which was very nice) said this is. He offered to check with the kitchen and they brought my husband 3 more onion rings..(lol) and they were old.. it had powder in between the batter and onion. The only reason I gave it a 2 star is my past experiences have been good and I do enjoy the food. I went in today on my day off. Stood at the entrance for 10 mins while the hostess just leaned against the counter doing nothing. I was the only one waiting to be seated. A waitress then came up to ring a customer up but then just walked off. The restaurant had a few people, but wasn't busy...so there was no excuse. Will I come back? Probably not. I was a regular at this location. Coming in at least 2 or more times a week. But, that changed today. read more

Gluten free review only: They have no gluten free options. You can get the typical gluten free breakfast: omelette, eggs, with no roll, and no pancakes. I have been to this Black Bear Diner location twice now and unfortunately have had the same experience both times. Service is incredibly slow, the food is average (at best), and the pricing is rather high for what it is. 1) It has taken upwards of twenty minutes to simply get a refill on a drink while the restaurant is slow. 2) I order the chicken and waffle before and the chicken arrived over fried to the point where it was extremely hard to cut thru the breading. 3) I got a corn muffin that I paid a few dollars for only to receive this dinky little minuscule muffin. Meh. I'd skip it. Go to Elmers or Shari's for the same type of food instead. I wanted to like this place. It is new to Gresham, although I've seen many of the chain throughout southern Oregon and northern California. They have a nice looking building, and the bear motif is OK. Service was fine (I think they've worked out most of the service kinks that plagued them when they first opened). But a couple issues that will keep me from going back: - Food quality: Just not that great. Nothing was terrible, but nothing stood out as "wow, that was high quality". I had the Huevos Rancheros Eggs Benedict; The eggs were overcooked (no yellow runniness, the essence of a benedict), and the pork was just kind of low quality meat (I ended up pushing it off to the side since it just was not appetizing). - Food quantity: Just kind of ridiculously large. Way, way too many calories for a meal. Honestly splitting a meal might still be too much. I wouldn't consider this a negative if the food quality were better (after all, why not order something great and split it?). But with the quality being low, it just doesn't help to overload the plate with size. read more

3pm on a Sunday. Super sweet hostess quotes us 15 minutes. We get seated in 5 - awesome. We are left at our table with my explanation that the little newspaper on the table is actually our menu. Several minutes pass and our server, Desiree, finally arrives. She seems very busy - maybe her section is a little too big. She takes our drink order and points out the menu. She returns about 10 minutes later with our drinks and takes a food order. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger basket and my guest ordered the garden burger flatbread. There is about 40 minutes in between our order being placed and receiving our meals. Twice the wrong food was attempted to be dropped off at our table (it seems they don't know their table numbers). My basket meal came on a plate - I knew this was wrong, but I didn't see our server again until she dropped off the check to ask her. Our server had put in the more expensive version of what I had ordered - since I ate it I paid for it, but it was wrong. Also, I wasn't asked how I would like my burger prepared - it came out VERY well done. But I couldn't let my server know because she never came back. I had to ask how I was to pay my bill and I was directed to the host stand. An explanation of how to pay would nice when the bill is dropped off. Overall, service is lacking. It just seems that the staff needs further training. But the food was wonderful. 3 stars is purely for the quality of food. read more

I've been to the one in Beaverton before but since this was a new location that opened up not to far from my house. I took my grandma the other night. I can't say I was very pleased with the service. My waitress seemed scatter-brained. She didn't bring us any water, forgot what we had ordered for drinks & didn't bring our silverware till I had to ask for them. Barely ever checked on us, until I paid our bill. There was another waitress, which I wish we had. She seemed so kind, personable & had such a strong southern accent. Loved her from a far. . Next time if I come to this location, I think we'll request her if possible. About the food.. I did get the chicken fried steak which was great. My grandmother got the fried chicken which she seemed to of enjoyed. We had more than enough to take home for another meal from both of our dinners. read more

We were all starving when we came in, and waddled out with take home boxes. They have an extremely tempting pie counter that we sadly did not get to sample. Next time!
