Little less meatloaf dinner ( BUT PLENTY OF FOOD)
Gene W.

While the food tasted OK, you go to Black Bear diners for the portion sizes and the country-sweet service, amply supplied on our visit. Hard to mess up a breakfast. While good in every respect, the prices are creeping up to almost unaffordable ($15 for simple breakfast). The little less meatloaf dinner was only $13 and was plenty filling, especially with the side order of onion rings. Average comfort food, but served with a smile.

Country fried steak and eggs with red potatoes
Adam H.

Food was not good, got the $20 country fried steak combo with my eggs over medium, white toast and red potatoes Eggs were super runny, toast was hard and burnt with barely any butter and potatoes were inedible-- very rubbery in texture. Country friend steak was the only saving grace and that wasn't enough to leave me satisfied with the experience. Waitress was polite but inattentive, came to the table once about 3 minutes after the food was served and then disappeared until she came to drop the check off. When she did, she said nothing, just placed it on the table and walked away wordlessly. This was my second time at a Black Bear Diner and might be my last, I really enjoyed the first experience I had at a different location so I was looking forward to this one and drove 45 minutes from La Center to get here. Very disappointing experience, would not recommend this location.

Homemade Chicken Pot Pie

Black Bear is a great restaurant for groups because the menu will have something for everyone! My family and I shared items so that we could sample a lot. Everything was delicious and a large enough portion to share!

Volcano
Matthew W.

The Volcano was amazing. It came with sausage, thick bacon, eggs, and sweet cream pancakes. Also had a side of grits. After that I got a berry cobbler which was kind of disappointing. The crust wasn't really crispy and some of the fruit wasn't really hot inside some of it was still cold. The service was great. The place gave an outdoorsy feel to the restaurant with a lot of bears and bear puns which I really love.

Strawberry Sweet Cream Pancakes are the best!!!

We come here weekly for our "day off lunch". Kamile was our server a few times, she always remembers us and is so kind. It feels like family when we're here and I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. The food is always on point and if anything ever falls through, the staff here is ready to jump and make it better. My coffee lives here

Chicken pot pie .. black bear diner

This place has gone downhill. We ate dinner last night . I ordered the chicken pot pie ,. It looked beautiful with the golden crust on top , but was hiding the brown mushy over salted sludge inside . It looked and tasted like all the leftover potatoes and vegetables ,brown gravy were added together .. threw in some chicken and called it chicken pie. I v never eaten chicken pot pie that was brown It was truly Awful. My husband ordered blueberry pancakes . They brought him regular ... he asked about the blueberries, the server brought him a bowl of COLD blueberry compote right out of the fridge ! Who wants stiff cold gelatinous blueberries compote on their pancakes .....No one ! ( No whip cream ) My daughter ordered a burger with avocado It came with grilled onions .....and guess what ? NO avocado. !

Lots of mature patrons. ie. not young. Wife ordered the Denver omelette, I did the ribeye steak breakfast. Steak is marked as market price. At this time it means $29.95. Food came out pretty quickly. Sadly we had some problems. The ribeye cut is pretty thin. First time out came out raw in the middle, the refire cooked it too much. Quite a bit of fat on the cut. Not a huge fan and wouldn't order it again. Hash browns were not super warm, over easy eggs were fine. They offer two sizes of omelette, wife was going to get the full and take some home. Didn't specify and server didn't ask. Ended up getting the half omelette, evidently. OK. Don't really cook the veggies much and they were pretty crunchy. Again hash browns just warm. With tip meal was north of $55. Servers were friendly and accommodating Not sure we will return. Bummer

It's a nice family atmosphere here. I just felt welcome the min I came in. The simple decoration with messages written on a black board gave the place a homely feel. The friendly welcome I got from all the staff and the food. The menu made me think with I wanted. And the portions made me regret what I ordered. Not really I regretted I didn't have a bigger stomach. ;) There was no way I could finish my food in one setting. I got good old biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. I feel I got a potful of sausage and gravy instead of a ladleful. I couldn't find my biscuits for a few seconds. I also got a side order of sausage. Yea it was too much. Overall five stars. Great tasting stick to your bones meal. Even when it's reheated. The service was on the spot. She worked hard and kept smiling the whole time. And for the price well, well, WELL worth it.

They put so much care into everything. Listen- always get the salad here. They're always delicious and contain surprises. This time we got marinated rhubarb, which is in season, and which I'm excited to make and put in my own spring salads at home. Also, edible flowers, and while we ate lunch, we saw a worker picking them from the little garden. The sandwich was a shrimp roll, which was great, maybe with homemade bread? It was perfect. The sandwich was zesty, with a remoulade and little pickled jalapeños. And what were those crunchy things on top? Crushed barbecue potato chips! A delightful detail most restaurants wouldn't bother with. And the soft serve sundaes, which are also full of artistry and interesting textures! You have to get one. I'm a pretty good cook, and it takes a lot to blow me away. Sugarpine blows me away.

It was perfect. Strawberry purée was fresh. Lil salty taste with pretzel. Big cake like pieces. Yum. Lager beer was really really good. Ordered the chicken Marrekesh wrap. Forgot a photo! Wrap was pretty tough and I ended up just eating insides. Chicken was wonderfully seasoned and tender. Pretty onion heavy for me. Easy to pick off. Would try pulled pork next time. Seating inside is pretty tight. Outside has picnic tables and open areas where people brought blankets to hang. Would return.
