I took my kids around 4pm right afterschool. We were the first ones. Looked pretty clean. Loved how they have merchandise for sale there and plenty of options to buy from. It even has a ju box to put some music. After we ordered more people started to come in. Filled up pretty quick. The service was great only towards the end I saw less of the waitress but like I said it started to get busy. The food was good my kids of course ordered breakfast with milk shakes and loved it. Great breakfast this morning! I have been here several times for lunch and dinner. Each time I was underwhelmed With the food and the staff. I gave them a try for breakfast this morning and was so happy I did. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. My server Dylan was over the top. I had the chicken fried steak with the hash browns extra crispy. The CFS was very good. The gravy could have been a bit more flavorful but was still good. The crispy hash browns were perfect. Crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. I'm so glad I was in the neighborhood and gave them a try for breakfast. The server started my day on a great note. I've been to several Black Bear Diners in California and Oregon and they are usually pretty good. But this location seems to be missing something. The only reason I gave three stars instead of two is because the employees are nice. One thing for sure is that Black Bear Diner does GREAT breakfasts but everything else is blah. Their omelette and sweet cream pancakes and waffles are the bomb! From now on we will stick to breakfast only at the BBD. Here's why: We came in for dinner and I ordered the Friday AllYouCanEat Fish Fry and my partner ordered the Tri-Tip. -- The cod was just OK but the hush puppies were not bad. The problem is that after only one plate I was told there was no more fish when I asked for a couple more pieces. So much for the AllYouCanEat deal! But the kicker is that I wasn't even offered anything else to chow on as a substitute or a discount on the meal. Geeesh! -- My partner's Tri-Tip was mediocre at best. What's really bad was that it was supposed to be 10 ounces of steak but there is absolutely no way it was even close. Maybe 5 ounces at most! It looked like one of those presentations at gourmet restaurants where the meat on the plate is a ridiculously small serving but there is some fancy sauce spackled on the plate to make it "gourmet". Way more than anyone could possibly eat in one sitting. My husband got the Hobo omelette with hash browns which was really good and ended up taking half home. Our server was very good. Last time we went there we had a little problem with forgetting some things but no worries the management made sure everything got taken care of. Angie and Justin both came by many times to make sure everything was okay, they engaged in great conversation and set the atmosphere of the restaurant as very comforting. I use have breakfast however I went to eat dinner tonight on Sunday. I has the meatloaf sliced thin. The gravy was good but rather salty on the meatloaf & on the mashed potatoes I didn't order. I ordered baked potato with sour cream which was brought out after I start eating along with another slice of meatloaf. The bacon potato soup was okay. The onion ring was too crispy on the meatloaf. The Broccoli was fine no issues. No issues withe the service as the waitress was great. The French fries for my partner was salted before he got his food. I really do though because sometimes you feel guilty to the business giving a three star but misleading to potential customer giving a four-star... now there's a lot of things I like this place one being the Decour I really do like these when you bring the kids it's cheesy it's over the top it's not just cheap and throwing together like so many places are nowadays. The service can be slow I don't think it's their fault but it is definitely not aimed towards people that are trying to get something in a short amount of time seeding a lot of time is hard to get to go food times very and really you have to have some time to hang out I think to anticipate coming to this place. breakfast here is pretty good there's nothing overly special about it but they give you the big old breakfast like I love and remember as a kid now I'm not sure if I was smaller and the plates were standard size but I swear I remember whopping huge plates when you take half of it home when you're done. And this place has that they've had some seriously massive place where you eat until you feel like you're gonna die and you still get a little for that 11 o'clock I'm hungry again feeling. Or often with a big breakfast plate I've had three kids share and no one be upset. So I definitely lean towards traditional breakfast with big pancakes and pancakes and sometimes it feels nice just to get something like that when you're in a nostalgic place... most often I get burgers here for lunch they give you a lot of fries which I appreciate and a good variety in Birch I also have bigger patio options which I do appreciate being a big burger guy. They also ask how you like your burger and if you ask for a medium they will give it to medium which is nice because often places with health code weird things don't want to chance it and just give you everything well done. I do enjoy the option of having bacon and cheese but it sometimes sucks having to add them together at the same time. Sometimes I don't always wanna two or three dollar up charge just because I want she is inside of a hamburger I'm a big boy. I have tried about four or five different burgers here over the years and they're all consistently good I have no complaints on them and would definitely put them above the standard diner dinner elder establishment... The cheapest burger around. The burger patty is the single most flavorless, dry thing I have ever eaten, The cheese was the cheapest, most fake cheese I had ever seen. I am pretty sure the tomatoes were from the local Walmart or similar cheap grocery store, and I'm pretty sure the onion rings are from the frozen aisle. It's also insulting that they called it a BBQ burger when all they did was put a small dab of BBQ sauce on it and thought that was good. I started bringing my elderly mom here every Sunday afternoon. The menu is large and the food is good. We recently had Annika as our server (last 2 Sundays) and I hope she works every Sunday!! She is so friendly and even helped keep a secret this last Sunday when my mom got to meet her newest 11 day old great granddaughter :) I appreciate how she checks on us to see if we need anything and always has a smile...that goes a long way nowadays!! Sometimes the food takes a little while to come out but I understand staffing shortages are affecting all businesses right now so we use that time to catch up as a family. read more
