I've driven by this place for the last few years. Finally decided to try out this local spot. When you walk in, it looks like a Chinese restaurant. Just in the adjoining room is the bar. There was only one other table taken and then folks started trickling in. They seem to do a good number of take-out as well. They have a wide range of offerings on their menu. Chinese food, burgers, fish and chips, and breakfast. I opted for the Taco Salad. I like the tortilla chips it cams with. It was such a good-sized salad that I had to bring the rest home. WTF??? ownership changed. Use to be a great place for breakfast... but now...NOT!!! In the bar, a lot of people were disappointed with the two item breakfast menu. one piece of toast on "scramble" option#1. I guess this morning it's a cheese burger and fries for me and fish n chips for husband. Burger says 1/3 lb on menu but was 1/4 lb. Still a good deal for the price. Also, our favorite weekend bar tender doesn't start until much later. I guess they really don't want to have breakfast business anymore. Will be interesting to see if dinner quality will go downhill too. So sad because so close to home but I guess we will be driving to Chester's or Polar King going forward. read more

Delicious. This is our very favorite Chinese food. We just opened a business in the area, and I can see that we will be lunch regulars very soon. The Mongolian beef was fantastic- the beef was tender and so flavorful- and the soups were delicious. Prices are more than fair, every server we have encountered has been wonderfully friendly. Sadly, the breakfast is the cheap, Sysco diner style that leverages all the premade, storage stable garbage ingredients aimed at kitchens with no talent. At that, hash browns were mostly raw in the middle and the hollandaise lacked salt and acid. Portions are too large, suitable for sharing between 3 people. Par for the course in these parts. We went to Sandy to visit friends, on our way home decided to get Chinese here. So happy indoor dining is available now and want to help small business. We were not disappointed. My husband and I found this little gem years ago when he was looking for a restaurant that served Open Faced Turkey sandwiches. So we headed out from Gladstone and in really no time we were there. They serve both American and Chinese foods and do a nice job with both. From the Open faced Beef and Turkey sandwiches, to the Salt & Pepper Shrimp and Almond Fried Chicken. We've not found anything they offer that doesn't taste great. Fanny our server is always there to make our visit wonderful. They do offer a full bar as well. read more

Came in for dinner tonight based on the recommendations of several of our friends. It's not a fancy restaurant by any means, but the staff is very friendly and it is certainly clean. Between the three of us, we had sweet-and-sour chicken, sweet-and-sour pork, chicken chow mein, fried rice, and fried shrimp. Food was very solid. Good little place in Boring. Not much in boring but this little restaurant has both American and Chinese food. I have been there for breakfast and the chinese nothing else. The breakfast is good, simple standard eggs, bacon and omelets. The Chinese Is my favorite here. Really good food and reasonable, always come out hot and good portion sizes. This is how I judge: Went to Red Apple Restaurant tonight for dinner. I had read a good review and decided that since it was 8 years since I had been here, it would be good to try again. Dan had Chinese, and I had the Chef salad. Salads are how I judge a place, and theirs was awesome. Dan said his was as good as our regular Chinese place, and the salad didn't taste like it came out of a bag, was crisp and while I would have loved some onion, it was awesome. I've been going to The Red restaurant for years. It's nice having a Chinese food menu local. I very much appreciate their desire to cater to American comfort food and Chinese food. How many times I have driven by thinking, 'try it, try it, you know you want to".... well.... yuck. I could probably end this review there, but if I save one person the trouble of experiencing a bad meal, worth it. I had high hopes, since I could not find parking at lunch time. Yes, busy usually means good. We hit them at about prime lunch time. We first tried to order a steak and burger. No, the waitress says, they are in the middle of cleaning the grill and nothing that requires cooking on the grill can be ordered. Okay, really? Who cleans the grill at lunch? Now the menu is cut way down and I am not in the mood for chinese. We get the waitress back over to ask for some appetizers of hot wings. She comes back and tells us that the wings are frozen in a big ball and it will take microwaving and then deep frying, would we be okay waiting 45 minutes for wings. I am not kidding... I could not make that up, I am as shocked as you reading this. Forty-five freakin' minutes for 8 wings. I could have ran to the gas station next door and gotten some off the deli in less than five and brought them back. Not to mention, just the description of how the wings were going to make it to the table had turned me off, sometimes ignorance is bless. We are now in deep discussion of leaving, but vow to go deep into the menu and find something. I pick fish and my son gets egg foo young. I posted pics of my fish. It is not worth the nearly ten bucks. Very greasy and not much flavor. The frys seemed like the fryer needed to be hotter. I left them and left kind of sick. My son said the egg foo was okay, there was a lot of it that is for sure. He normally will take it with him and he left more than half. Not every divey looking place is that awesome place which people speak of, if you decide to go, I hope the grill is up and running and the wings are closer to be cooked. read more

The Red Apple location has had several incarnations famailar to locals of Boring. Red Apple Restaurant is the newest. It is unique because it combines American greasy spoon diner with Chinese cuisine. It is a solid place to get what my buddy Lucky Mike calls a "contractor breakfast". A contractor breakfast is a hearty breakfast that you would see a working man eat before starting the day's work. Country gravy and some form of potato are required.I love that the standard bacon and egg breakfast is called The Usual on the menu (see pics). The omlettes are made competently and the portions are average. I particularly enjoyed the savory home fry potatoes. The service is not quite fast enough for a hit and run breakfast. The prices are fair. My veggie omlette and iced tea was ten bucks. There was also some question if the waitress runs the tab or if you pay up front. The interior is bright and clean. The parking is ample. Lucky Mike feels that the Chinese takeout is above average. I don't know if he means above average in general or above average for Boring, which only has one Chinese place. read more

BE UP FRONT AND HONEST WITH CUSTOMERS Went in, ordered out food from the menu. Asked for crispy French fries (were hardly cooked) went to pay our bill only to find out we were up charged for three of the four meals. I asked why and cashier just pointed to a typed piece of paper saying because of the beef shortage (untrue) and increased price of beef (also untrue), this is what we had to pay. No apologies, not a word about the price increases before or during ordering, couldn't even put a little sticker on the menu explaining increases. I don't mind at all paying for good food and good service. I just don't care for the feeling of being taken. Sad as we had been in several times before but will be finding somewhere else. Review would have been much higher if prices were correct and food cooked as desired. read more

There aren't a lot of good restaurants for Chinese food, in my opinion. However a friend brought me here for lunch and it was great! The restaurant was clean, we were seated immediately and the server was pleasant. I ordered the #1 Pork Chow Mein and fried rice. It was very good. I will definitely be back.
