I know employees don't want to work overtime. I get it. We did arrive a half hour before closing time (9:30 pm) so we ate as fast as possible. When the server came to the table with our to-go boxes, she actually said to me "Can I have your fork?" and took it from my hand then proceeded to scrape my food into the box. I was still eating. Are you blown away now? Yes, this happened.

Ordered thru Uber Eats. Arrived in about 30 minutes piping hot and fresh. The containers were packed full but not leaking. Definitely feel like we got a good value for their pricing.

10/10! Happy to have found this place. The reviews looked good snd the pictures looked good too. We liked that the prices weren't too bad, lunch is $2 less then dinner. So like $10.50 & $12.50. The lunch special comes with soup too! Hot tea served as well :) We got Orange chicken (which is a dollar more), chicken fried rice and chicken chow main for $38. Everything tasted super fresh and didn't feel heavy afterwards. A lot of food so lots of left overs too :) The service was awesome, and the restaurant was really clean. Coming back for sure!!

We came here for a family birthday. The service was attentive and friendly and patient as we couldn't make up our minds. The food is consistent and flavorful for what I'd refer to as American Chinese food. Servings and generous for the prices. The ambience is definitely 80s but it's kept clean.

We have been eating here since the early 90s service is always excellent, and the food is always top-notch, you can actually watch them cook your food right there in the window of the kitchen.

This Americanized Chinese food was not the expected Sichuan or Szechuan food. The cooks were Asian and I suspect are Chinese but the menu is typical small town Chinese food. I asked about Sichuan peppercorn dishes and they only had one. Ma La Chicken or could be made with beef or pork. Unimpressed with lack of authenticity to the Sichuan name I feel should be called Chinese Food. That said the Ma La Chicken I ordered was tasty with tender white moist chicken not overcooked, onions, snow peas, shiitake mushrooms all fresh and crisp and not cooked poorly. Just not Sichuan. So if you are not looking for ethnic Sichuan Chinese food I can perhaps recommend it to you. It's Chinese food for white people. Kind of like Epcot Italy. The decor is ok plain. Seating is ample. Bathroom not clean. That part is pretty authentic Chinese restaurant and usually means it will be good. Service was fine. I think I put them off a little questioning non Szechuan menu Szechuan named restaurant. I had to show the waitress photo of The Szechuan peppercorn. Prices were good portions huge. Came with free pot of tea. Ordered only the one dish. I ate and am full and have enough for another meal. I think that's why 70% of we Americans are obese.

The raw Cashew Chicken

What a disgusting place to eat! DO NOT EAT HERE. You will get food poisoning as my whole family did. When confronted the server about the chicken being raw and chewy, she said that's how it's supposed to look like and kept arguing with us. It should've been a red flag when we got there, and someone else at the counter was arguing about how bad the food was.. never again would I come here. 0 stars.

A Pastor my Mom knows owns this restaurant. After a Pastor Conference she attended...(Yes. She is also a Pastor. ) where S.O.K. provided the grub. She thought it would be nice to take us all out for lunch. S.O.K. is in a strip mall in the corner and their sign is kind of small. Trust me. Find it and go in for awesome grubbing. There was 7 in our party and everyone got something different. Its all family style. You get your main course, rice to share and a small soup. My Wife and I shared Crab Puffs and BBQ Pork. Yummy. I got the Hunan Spicy Beef. I wasn't sure what it was and with a Hot Pepper Icon next to the name. I thought it would be a good idea to look it up before buying. Here's what the internet said Hunan Beef Is.... From the web:  Hunan beef has a much hotter flavor, and Szechuan beef has a more sweet and spicy flavor. Its main ingredients are chili peppers, garlic, and Szechuan peppercorn. It has a sweet/spicy and complicated taste. It is famous for the distinctive tingly numbing sensation it produces when eaten...... So hot it numbs the Tounge! What? Ya. That's what I want. I ordered Hunan Beef. Our waitress was on point. Fast and polite. We sat next to the open window kitchen. It was awesome watching cooks play with Dragons. Our food starts coming out. Bam. Everything looked amazing. My Hunan Beef sets down. Bang. Looks so ono. I dive in.... wait for it.... I just ate some without rice. Pass the rice please. Still chewing.... still waiting.... Another bite. Wait for it? I search for the heat amongst my taste buds. Uh. I can feel heat. Just a glance of it. In the back of the throat. Uh. This is the "Hot One?" K. Not hot at all. I wonder if they dumped it down? It was still very delicious. Just not hot at all. Well, hardly at all. Other than a lack of spicy. Everything was delicious and now I have a new Szechuan Place. Next time we'll kick it up a couple notches and see.

Love this place! The staff is quick to greet you as you enter, take your order, and the food is served piping hot. Each entree is large enough to share family style with leftovers to take home. Szechuan Open Kitchen is located off of Burnside, just across the street from the Gresham Fred Meyer and Walmart, tucked in the back corner of the parking lot, near Clackamas County Bank. Parking is always available. We've been coming here for years. They offer a large menu organized by your protein- pork, chicken, beef, seafood, and vegetarian. So many options from appetizers to entrees. We've always enjoyed everything we've ordered. Our favorites are the honey walnut prawns (ask for spicy) and the shredded pork with black bean sauce. I love honey walnut shrimp and I haven't found it on any Chinese restaurant menu on the east side of town. I've only found honey walnut prawns at restaurants on 82nd in Portland or in Beaverton. If you're in the Gresham area and don't want to drive into Portland, stop here for honey walnut prawns. The shredded pork is tender and so flavorful! We always go there for this dish. I stick to just ordering the entrees as rice is included. Hot tea is served with your meal, whether you're dining solo or with a group. The restaurant has tons of seating. Great place for family dinners. There are often birthday parties or some type of celebration when we're there. Wine, beer and mixed drinks are available. Reasonable prices! Szechuan Open Kitchen offers online ordering and delivery through DoorDash and Postmates.

Delicious. Huge portions. Free soda refills. Service was friendly, but our server was kinda forgetful (we had to ask twice for to-go boxes and three times for a soda refill (the restaurant wasn't busy, mostly empty). They are able to accommodate groups if 8-10 people at one table.

Well packaged, not messy or drippy.

Similar response to others. Dated Ambiance, poor quality of food. Portion sizes are generous, just lacks flavor.

The food was excellent, and the service stood out even more. The person running the restaurant was incredibly friendly, fun to talk to, and genuinely helpful. Honestly, the service alone would bring us back. The menu has everything you'd want from a Chinese restaurant--lots of variety and plenty of options. We decided to try the combination plates (which are listed toward the back of the menu), and that was the right call for us since we like to share family-style without ordering oversized portions. My wife ordered the combo with sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, and teriyaki chicken. I went with Szechuan beef, General Tso's chicken, and fried rice. We also added a large order of egg rolls, which were clearly made fresh in-house. Everything tasted great, and the portions were generous--even the combination plates were more than enough. Overall, we had a really good experience and will definitely be coming back.

The decor is virtually unchanged from the previous tenant, giving us that remember them a feeling that it's haunted by the ghost of Sunny Han's. The staff was friendly and we received prompt service. We got broccoli beef, orange chicken, and chicken low mein. Compared to other Chinese-style restaurants, the food was good but not amazing, and was pretty reasonably priced. I likely wouldn't go out of my way to go here but I wouldn't kick them out of bed either.

With that said over Covid, it closed down actually early Covid so I really had nothing to do with it. I think Fiona retired but back to my point this place is the most amazing visual at night. The kids absolutely love it. I drive by it five days a week and it always puts a smile on my face. They just have the most amazing building with the most amazing lights and everything looks clean and chestnut broken so that alone if you want to come here with some kids at night? They're gonna have a smile on their face. We'll just start there. Food is good. They have the standard fair. You know a mix of Americanized and more traditional Chinese items now I'm guilty of liking Americanized Chinese food more than traditional Chinese food, which is quite the opposite of my normal taste in ethnic markets. So mostly, I will say I have ordered the sugary based chickens and standard fair that you might get at a lesser authentic establishment. Also, I will say that I'm always a sucker for the combo meals and the family meals because you get so much variety and it just feels more fun than getting a single item I really think this is where this place shines like many other Chinese restaurants is having the cool mixes of lunch and dinner combos everything's always fresh. Everything's always hot. Sometimes service can be a little slow so definitely call it in ahead of time but you get good quality and it's been here as long as I can remember, and I couldn't imagine what they could put in this building if it were, you not be there. Come grab a lunch combo and give it a try. Or if you got the kiddos come in and get a family meal get a bunch of combos and just see the light show.
