We arrived very late in the afternoon, in fact we were all alone, with two servers. Ordered a family style meal for the two of us. First out came a plate with pork sliced, shrimp, two huge spring rolls that were filled with god only knows what. They were not very tasty. Then pork fried rice and Szechuan beef, which were both above average. A huge plate of sweet and sour chicken which was excellent, all white meat, was delivered, last but least was some sort of shrimp in a gravy, that I really couldn't identify, but the taste wasn't awful. All In all we got lots of average food for very little money. We hadn't been in this place in 25 or more years, no changes, looked the same. Waitress was efficient, but more interested in her phone than the only two customers in the place. Probably will be 25 more years before we go back. read more

Order to go. It was really good food. Especially the teriyaki chicken and pork noodles. I should say I haven't been in the area for 15 yrs. I loved it back then. Place it self is a little run down outside and in. But staff was so friendly. They were really busy but still acknowledged me and got my order quickly. We went to Lee's about a month ago when we were coming home from Troutdale and thought we'd give it a try since we haven't been able to find decent Chinese food anywhere else. The staff was very friendly and made us feel at ease, we got the #4 and my husband doesn't care for rice but he inhaled it, lol. We loved everything we got, egg flower soup, the almond chicken chow mein was flavorful, lots of chicken, chicken flavor, crispy veggies and lots of it, we got the sweet and sour shrimp minus the sauce and the BBQ pork, OMG, best we've ever had. We went back again a couple days ago and everything was still excellent. It's our new go to and we'll definitely recommend to our friends and family as all our favorite Chinese restaurants are no longer around, we'd lost faith we'd find a new favorite. Definitely worth the drive. And not sure what others were talking about on the building and inside, it was much more pleasant than others we've been to, very clean and casual. read more

Someone I trust when it comes to Chinese food especially said that Lee's Garden was the best. So, we traveled from 36th and Ainsworth all the way to 183rd and division. I was expecting a meal that lacked disappointment and gave me some excitement and I didn't get that here at Lee's. As usually I go into a Chinese joint and order one of their dinner combinations, a appetizer and hot tea. I got the Num. 4 which came with pork fried rice, sweet and sour pork, sweet and sour shrimp and almond chicken chow mein, a small order of sesame chicken and hot tea all to-go. The run down: They put the sauce on the shrimp before they package it to-go causing it to become soggy before consumption, the almond chicken chow mein lacked flavor and I ended up picking all of the chicken out due to the texture, the pork and pork fried rice were the best things In the combination and i usually don't order either of these items. The sesame chicken has me on the fence, they fry the sesame right on the chicken which brings out this rich toasted flavor that's amazing but when your chicken has a super chewy texture it takes away from everything else. Their fried rice is slamming, I'm on the fence about everything else but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't come back one day. read more

Lee's Garden used to be a really great place, but as some good places do, this restaurants become an incompetent, complacent, and unprofessional environment where caring for your consumer has become second fiddle. We are not eating your food because we like you, but yet we act as if we do. We as customers have no strict obligation to be kind, yet we are. No matter how nice you are to Lee's Garden, they simply do not reciprocate your energy, instead choosing to speak to you with contempt and obvious irritation. They can't be mad that we're stuffing money in their pockets, so what could it be? We've all had a rough year, but I haven't become less kind to my fellow humans as a result. It's time that Lee's Garden steps it up. Weather it's forgetting customer's items and making them drive all the way back, stating lower prices over the phone then up charging the customer when they arrive (they will be too hungry to refuse to pay a few dollars extra, pretty little scam), or the dismissal of manners in a professional setting, Lee's Garden has grown a reputation of letting you down and then kicking you while down. read more

Well I decided to try this place after so many suggested it on a local Facebook page, I went in on a Sunday around 1 pm. I had the combination with almond chow mein, fried rice, sweet and sour shrimp and bbq pork. I also ordered an additional egg roll and also asked for hot and sour soup. The soup came and she gave me egg flower..oh well no biggie, it was ok but nothing great. Then she brought red sauce and my meal and my egg roll. I had to then ask for hot mustard and sesame seeds. My first impression was damn, this is a small plate of food for American style Chinese fare! The egg roll was crispy on the outside but bland and was cold The chow mein was ok what there was of it The rice was good, the bbq pork was dry The sweet and sour shrimp was the best part, it was hot at least and freshly made. All in all nothing special here, I would have given 4 stars for a bigger plate of food, they serve their combos on the smaller sized lunch plates, I've never seen those before on the dinner menu. Hmmm.. Seems to be a lack of reviews for this place. I wonder why? Probably because no one gets chinese food in Rockwood/Gresham. I have been going to Lee's Garden since childhood. It used to be my favorite chinese food. It is still a gulity, ghetto pleasure when I'm having dinner with the fam. Typical American version of chinese food. Over priced for the quality. The menu is full of "Traditional" dishes. Lots of gelatinous, corn starch based sauces. Sweet and Sour, Hawaiian, Kung Pao, etc... The pork fried rice always has a slightly dish soapy finish to it. I do give them credit for deveining their shrimp. No poop shoots are a bonus. The Almond chicken should be called "Celery and Peas in Slimey Clear Sauce with the occasional piece of boiled chicken". Like I said,I have a soft spot in my heart for bad chinese food. It takes me back to being a kid. I am always tempted to eat here on Christmas Eve and do my best "A Christmas Story" re enactment. My destination for dinner tonight was Lee's Garden to get Chinese food. Stepping into their unpretentious dining room, I was greeted and seated right away. I was brought a complimentary pot of tea as I looked over their extensive menu. Beef Tomato Chow Mein with Panfried Noodles has always been a favorite of mine so that's what I ordered. I was impressed with the size of the portion I got. . .HUGE. However, I wish it was more "tomatoey" tasting because that's the whole point of ordering something with tomato in it. Also, the panfried noodles were a bit soft. . .they should have been slightly crispy. The good thing I noticed was the quality of the beef, which was tender, and not tough and chewy. Service was friendly and fast. My dinner was OK. . .though not anything special. . .but I'll be back to try other items on their menu. read more

Just picked up an order and I am not happy to say the least. I ordered their Meatless Almond Subgum Chow Mein and this is what I received. When they asked me if I wanted crispy noodles I thought they meant pan fried, like Hong Kong style. Nope, they literally meant crispy noodles like the type you put on top of salads. Do people actually eat this? The veggie mix consisted of water chestnuts, mushrooms, peas, carrots, almonds, and mostly celery. Looked healthy for sure, but if I wanted all this celery, I would've ordered a side of celery. I've never seen this type of mixture in a chow mein dish before so I am genuinely confused. I still have fond memories of stopping at the counter on the way out to get a sour apple Dum Dum. The place has not changed much in the last 20 years... and that's just fine. Let's just lay a few things on the table up-front. What Lee's is not: -Authentic -MSG-free -Ashamed of playing American oldies music that's been cheesily reinterpreted with Asian instruments and sounds. What Lee's does well: -Best. Egg rolls. Ever. -Crab puffs. Barbecued pork. Pork fried rice. -Serves you two meals worth of food for about $10/person. -Gets your food out in a hurry. They also have the standard free oolong tea and the combos come with better-than-decent cup of egg flower soup. The staff is friendly. The service is good. For family-owned Americanized Chinese, I have yet to find anywhere else this good. read more

My aunt and uncle were actually the original owners of Lee's Garden. I remember always wanting to work behind the counter and take care of the register because it seemed like such a cool job! And that's also where all the Dum Dums were, so of course it was the best place to be! I have so many fond memories from childhood of heading over there with my parents and visiting with them and they would always make me a cheeseburger and crinkle-cut fries. This was definitely a treat since my parents didn't make American food at home! I wish more places would serve crinkle-cut fries... I was there about 2 years ago and it was nice to see that the new owners had not changed much of the interior and kept the name. I didn't have a cheeseburger, but I did have the broccoli and beef and some egg drop soup -- still very good. The staff is authentic, and while they may not always be the easiest to understand, or maybe even the friendliest, Vicki is hands down the best. She is sincere, friendly and accommodating. I've been eating their food for nigh on sixteen years now. Ever since Hung Far Lo sold and became crap, Lee's Garden has been my go to for good, consistent food. The curry chicken in delicious, the house lo mein is cram packed with all the meats, they use foo yee in their mar far chicken, and my favorite part, the crab puffs. Most places, you pay eight bucks for six. Here, double the puffs, and cheaper too. And fresh and delicious to boot. They have an almost guaranteed pick up.time of 20 minutes from the time you call, longer only for gigantic orders. They have daily specials, a small american menu for picky kids, tea and almond cookies for sale, and even suckers for the kids when the meal is over. The only thing that's cheesy is the chinese elevator music of classic songs. But then again, there's a special place in my heart for a Chinese Love Potion Number Nine. read more

Why elaborate? These guy make the best Chinese food in town. Great value and friendly service. We love everything on their menu. You got to try their "Hot & Spicy Chicken" its amazing! If you prefer white meat, don't be afraid to ask, they are very flexible. I wanted to like this place since its fairly close to my new house..So I stopped by and got some take-out: Chow Mein consisted mostly of bean sprounts, some onion, some canned mushrooms, a couple of waterchestnuts and some tiny bits of meat. No real flavor. Egg Fu Yung: How hard is this to make? Tastless. Gravy had way too much gelatin in it. Nice color of brown if thats what you want. Fried Shrimp: Over fried, too much breading not enough flavor. I don't know what could ever make me go back here. I've eaten in some real hole in the wall type Chinese places that are sheer wonders of flavor and value. This place sadly was just plain awful. Lee's Garden is the absolute hands down best Chinese food anywhere. We order the hot and sour soup every time we go and it is full of ingredients, not the watered down bs at other restaurants.
