    Steak au Poivre
    Kendall L.

If you're in Brooklyn and looking for a lowkey spot to unwind over a glass of wine or a well-made cocktail, BKB is worth a visit. The vibe is calm, good music, the lighting is dim (and honestly, there's just something about a dimly lit bar that makes everything feel right), and the drinks hit the spot. I came to BKB with every intention of ordering the salmon, but when I asked my waiter whether the Salmon or the Steak Au Poivre was better, he didn't hesitate "definitely the steak." I liked the confidence, so I went with it. Glad I did. The steak was on point, perfectly cooked with a rich peppercorn sauce. It came with a potato gratin that looked good but could've used a little more flavor. To finish things off, I tried the Gauffre Belge for dessert, and it was surprisingly good, sweet without being over the top. Overall, BKB is a solid neighborhood gem, good food, great drinks, and a fair price point. Most entrées run between $20-$33. Definitely a spot worth checking out when you want to relax, eat well, and sip something good.

I'm kind of upset because I took only one picture when I should've taken 1 million, but I was so invested in my Mezcal delicious drink while dropping my face deep into my bowl of mussels. This took over an old location that I deeply hated and I am so happy that it was replaced with this establishment. Food is great. Drinks are popping. I saw a bunch of beautiful Black people. And whoever the young man is behind the bar with the glasses, I can't remember his name right now, but he had me rolling. He had such a beautiful energy, and it was absolutely infectious. I'm trying not to go back today because I know I'm gonna spend lots of money there. Honestly, it's worth it to me. Spend your dollars. Throw your coins. Get in there. And if you see me, buy me a drink!!

Came here for a quick cocktail and a starter. We got the Guava Spritz and the Aperol Spritz. I throughly enjoyed the guava spritz and the aperol was the perfect ratio of the Prosecco seltzer and Aperol. Some places just don't get it right.

Through the years the fries and sauces have shifted slightly, but overall it's the exact same iconic experience it's always been. When you're down for pure salty‑crispy fry bliss with a ridiculous lineup of sauces, this is the spot. Whether it's a pre‑funk stop, a post‑drinks craving, or just a "treat yourself" moment, Pomme Frites stays tried‑and‑true. The fries come out hot, fresh, and perfectly cooked every time. The sauces are still the star -- you can't go wrong with any of them. It's one of the few places that's stayed consistent in a city that changes every five minutes. Still my favorite fry spot in NYC... and honestly the only place that even comes close is Reykjavik fries in Iceland. Forever a classic. Forever worth the stop.

The fries are more like french cut fries (though I'm more of a shoe string kinda gal). These are actual fries too.. as in like 4 inches and none of this 1 inch crumbs a lot of places try to pull off There is a place in near where I live that is also a fry shoppe (nowhere nearly as good as Pomme Frites) that has options for different cuts of fries (but not all types are freshly cut). It would be cool to see an option for this that is all fresh cut, though it may not be feasible.

I wish it wasn't just a special but a main stay because I'd definitely order that each and every visit. It was that good. I was apprehensive about the gnocchi since im not a big gnocchi fan in general but so many people have sung of it's praises so I decided to try it. Easily one of the best dishes I've had this year. The flavors were so perfectly balanced. It taste of the toasted sweet potato gnocchi was something I didn't expect but was pleasantly surprised. Kept it more simple for entrees because the starters were so rich and indulgent. We had the filet mignon and the steak sandwich. Both perfectly portioned and delicious. Ended with the stroopwafel cheesecake, it wasn't too sweet which was nice. The service was great, I love how the manger was so hands on and checking in with tables. There was an older couple nearby celebrating their anniversary and the manager came over and surprised them with a mini bottle of champagne and congratulated them. That really was so thoughtful! Definitely top tier care and service.

Big pot, loaded with flavor, and honestly enough to make you question ordering anything else. Seafood tastes fresh across the board, and the sauces actually matter here (not an afterthought). Bread basket is dangerous--crispy outside, and soft inside The vibe is classic Long Island "upscale but loud." Red booths, stained glass accents, packed room. Great energy if you're out with friends, less ideal if you're trying to have a conversation. It gets noisy--no way around that. Service was solid--attentive without hovering, which is what you want when you're juggling a pot of mussels and drinks. Only knock: it's pricey. But to be fair, you're paying for quality seafood and a pretty unique Belgian bistro experience (and a massive beer/cocktail program).

As someone who has come to this bar regularly to watch Knicks playoff games, I can confidently say…read moreI will never return after what happened during the NBA Finals last night. What this bar pulled was completely unacceptable. They were openly reserving seats at the bar for certain people while telling everyone else they were unavailable. There was no advertised reservation policy, no advance notice, and no opportunity offered to regular customers. Apparently, the only way to get a seat is to know the owner, know the bartenders, or be part of the inner circle. What made it even worse was that my group had been sitting at the bar, ordering food and drinks starting around 7:30 PM, only to be forced out of our seats at 7:45 PM. The reservation signs on those seats clearly stated they were reserved for 8:15 PM. We were paying customers actively spending money, yet we were removed 30 minutes before the supposed reservation time. That is absolutely egregious behavior. I've worked in sports bars and have owned sports bars in New York City. In all my years in the business, I have never heard of reserving seats directly at the bar--especially during a major sporting event. It goes against everything that makes a sports bar successful. Bar seats have always been first-come, first-served. That's Sports Bar 101. I've spent plenty of money here over the years because it was always a great place to watch big games: good atmosphere, sound on the TVs, and a fun crowd. Unfortunately, last night proved that customer loyalty means absolutely nothing. Regular patrons were treated like second-class citizens while preferred customers received special treatment. For a bar that markets itself as a neighborhood sports destination, this was incredibly disappointing, unprofessional, and frankly insulting. If you're planning to watch a major game here, don't assume you'll be treated fairly. Unless you're friends with the right people, don't expect the same experience as everyone else. There are plenty of other sports bars in Brooklyn that understand how to treat customers. After last night, I'll be spending my money there instead. I won't be back, and I certainly won't be recommending this place to anyone. Let's Go Knicks

You could taste the beer in the beef stew but it wasn't too overpowering. Felt almost like a goulash. I was hoping for something with a bit more seasoning but overall, it was ok. The dish came with frites too which I was excited to try. They were crispy yet soft on the inside. I like my fries a little more skinny and crispy but these went well with the beef gravy on the side. Overall, the evening was pleasant but the food wasn't the best Belgian I've had, about a 3/5 for me. Just so so. Also, as a side note - They really need to work on their bathroom situation. The fries were great but some crusty French bread would have been a good addition, to help soak up the flavorful broth. The Merguez sandwich was a miss. Despite the menu stating that it was served on a baguette (and picture on Yelp of other diners receiving the sandwich on a baguette), ours was served on ciabatta. Really, not the same thing. We did not say anything at the time but we would not have ordered it had we known. Total disappointment. Also, the person on our party that ordered this sandwich found the fries way too salty. Wow, how have I not reviewed one of my favorite go-to spots in NYC yet!!??…read more I have been going to BXL Cafe since the mid-2000's and make a point of hitting it every single visit to the city. The first time, we stumbled into it during a snowstorm, seeking shelter after visiting Time Square with a group of friends, one of whom was in the city with us for his very last trip on this earth. He was very sadly dying of cancer and dreamed of being able to go to NYC one last time. May he be resting in peace. On my last night in the city, I suggested to clients of mine that we hit BXL Cafe and they were all willing and ready. Like every other visit, the service, drinks and food were all fantastic so I'm surprised by some of the 3-star reviews because this place is fantastic. This was a Thursday night and the place was absolutely mobbed. It was a bit of a squeeze getting to the table I reserved in the back where I joined my clients/friends of many years. Our server was awesome, very attentive, friendly, and put up with us trying to hook up our one single buddy at the table that night. She suggested we start with the croquettes and even though I had been raving about the mussels, some in our party ordered other things. No clue why! The mussels are always amazing. My clients/friends did enjoy what they ordered. The croquettes were very tasty; I believe my favorite was the ham croquettes. I didn't quite care for the shrimp croquettes, I mean, if I had to pick in the future. My go-to has always been the Thailandaise Mussels with coconut milk, lemon grass and curry. This has always been so awesome, I never stray from it. Sooooo good and a massive portion in a big 'ol black pot served with crusty bread and a big portion of fries. I guess my only complaint would be that while the fries are good and crispy, they aren't the traditional double fried in duck fat fries of true Belgian Moules Frites eateries. My favorite in this true Belgian way is the fries served at Wurstkuche in L.A. (of all places). These fries are absolutely heavenly and I'd suggest BXL (and The Back Abbey in Claremont, CA) set up a conference call with Wurstkuche so they can perfect theirs. Still, BXL Cafe is an absolutely wonderful stop and well, the beer on tap and by the bottle is always fantastic and fresh. Long live BXL Cafe! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
