All three fries ("plain" which had salt & pepper, sweet potato, & masala) on the menu very very salty, some burgers were either too salty (the Jani, 808, & Lahori) or very one note and lacking flavor (ye cheese). The wings were dry & over cooked (they had ZERO sauce unlike what was advertised), The star/highlight of the meal was the fried chicken sandwich (juicy chicken, spicy, saucy, and a hit of freshness with the pickles & lettuce; wish the tomato weren't grilled bc the sauce and batter make it very heavy) The service was meh since the delivery took one hour longer than the allotted time, but it's a Saturday night and it must've been busy so that wasn't really a huge deal. read more

I went here just onetime several years ago. After having a burger in the backyard , I saw a rat go by, in the backyard ,as I was leaving . I mentioned it to the owner ,who was with friends ,didn't seem to be concerned from what I said, needless to say, NEVER did I go back there again. I even sent them a message, but never heard back from them. It's amazes me how this place is still opened, when other restaurants get shut down for this reason. Ugh. I don't even know where to begin because there are so many things wrong with this place. First off, the service. They claim they don't have a bathroom here. Exactly what the cashier said was "we don't have a bathroom but if you buy something from the deli next door they'll let you use it." First, yes you do have a bathroom just say it's for employees only. Also, what a great useless tip! Second, the food itself. The masala fries were saltier than I could even imagine fries to be (and I actually prefer salty food). The "classic" BK Jani burger itself was very underwhelming too, it wasn't cooked well and the burger itself lacked any real flavor. Topping green chutney on top of a burger doesn't really do much nor does it make it a "Pakistani" burger as far as I can recall... Last but most definitely not least, the owner (the bald guy if you can't tell by since he's literally pacing in the restaurant the entire time). Not only was he giving us dirty looks the entire time for god knows what reason (maybe because we stopped eating our food because we didn't exactly enjoy it? Who knows) but he went around greeting everyone but us and whispering things looking our way as well to his employees. I hate to say it, but he was 110% RACIST and we felt so uncomfortable that we left with our food barely eaten. It was really upsetting since I read such rave reviews about this place but left feeling completely disrespected. After eating here, I read further into the low rating reviews and it was clear that there is clearly a pattern of bigotry and arrogance from the owner which shouldn't be warranted in any way shape or form in ANY circumstance. The Jani burger lives up to the hype. The guy working there insisted I do the medium spicy chutney for my burger... but I wish I had followed my heart and went with the hot. Aside from that, it's a great burger and the Pakistani spices and chutney definitely offer a cool juxtaposition from what you usually expect from a burger. Also, the massala fries and house ketchup are great and both have serious flavor and a nice kick of heat. Staff was friendly and service was great. Wow. This is maybe (And I've been eating GOOD burgers) one of the best, if not THE best, burger I've had in a very, very long time. It's succulent, moist, juicy, intensely flavorful, and TENDER (very very few burgers are actually tender and not tough). It is easily one of the most perfect burgers I've had. While you get the typical beef flavors in the burger (there is also chutney, and so on), it's just executed flawlessly, and that is so hard to find. Other than the most perfect burger in the world, the lamb chops were very juicy and flavorful, but were super spicy (I won't dock a point because I am weak :). Also, as a cherry on top, the staff was super, super nice. I couldn't take the heat (literally) and as they saw me ugly sniffling, they offered a free bottle of water so that I could cool off. Last time I was in NYC we went with @arshisaeed and her fam to dinner. When they recommended a "Desi" burger spot I have to admit I was very skeptical given that most desis cook their beef well done and more kabob like but we ended up going with it. When we arrived at @bkjani in Brooklyn I was super pleasantly surprised to find that the chef really knew his burgers and has made a DELICIOUS burger. Let's talk about why: 1. Meat: the chef here knows how to cook burgers. Much to my surprise the burger was cooked medium rare and with some light sprinkling of masala on the outside of the patty tasted amazing 2. Sauces: this is probably what makes it so unique, paired with your medium rare masala burger you add a hari chutney mayo along with a little bit of raita that pairs just awesomely with the burger 3. The bun: this is a good fluffy and solid sesame seed bun, glad they didn't skimp out on what holds it together Bonus: not pictured but the masala fries that pair with the burger are delicious and awesome on their own Special shout out to @oshehzad for telling me about this place before I even realized I was going there, great rec sorry we didn't go together! BK Jani has been on my list of places to go for a while but I just haven't been able to make it out to Brooklyn. Thanks to an event my friends were hosting I finally made it out, and that's when I realized that I was missing out big time. Firstly, the outdoor space is adorable. The fairy lights add an extra charm along with the greenery and the murals. You can absolutely make it your own for any event. The menu for the event included lamb chops, beef burger, chicken rolls and masala fries. The lamb chops were the best I have ever had in my life. The burger was delicious as well. I stuffed myself up with the masala fries and unfortunately didn't leave room for the chicken roll. However, others seemed to like that too. The food was so good that I had to get a takeout order so my family could taste the deliciousness as well. Overall I would say, it is worth the trek no matter where you live. read more

very solid! everyone i know who's tried bk jani likes it, so had to take my punjabi homie. we went at around 5 on a sunday and it was empty. the waitress was kind enough to give us cups of their lentil soup on the house, which was delicious, a liiiiittle spicy but super yummy. as for mains, i'd been one other time before and got a burger then (pretty good) so this time i gave the grilled chicken sandwich a shot! it was actually very delicious, the chicken was well seasoned, there was a good amount of i forget exactly what the sauce was, but i think it was cilantro chutney? no other veggies like lettuce or tomato, but the sauce and moistness of the chicken almost made up for it. kind of pricy at $15 for just two pieces of grilled chicken on a bun, but still very solid!! my friend got the jani with impossible meat, and he was really happy with it. the south asian touch was good and noticeable but not overdone, according to him. the ambiance is nice, casual but warm. it feels like you're at a burger joint for sure. there's a lot of seating at wooden tables, almost like park picnic tables LOL. and the music is at a good level! would recommend all around !!! would also be fun at the front table by the window for a large group! read more

The Jani burger and the chicken sandwich at BK Jani are all stars. The chicken sandwich comes with a huge piece of chicken that can barely be contained between the bun and it's loaded with curry flavor. The meat itself is moist and the spice level is balanced out with the generous heap of pickle chips that come on the sandwich. The Jani burger is incredibly flavorful and the beef patty is thick. Definitely a memorable burger but I think I liked the chicken sandwich more! They also ask you for your preferred spice level. I asked for the burger "spicy" and it was perfect. Not overbearing at all. I took my order to go but the restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but these sandwiches would make for a perfect picnic in Maria Hernandez park across the street. A long awaited review for an institution in NY. In the words of my cousin "I could move to NYC for this burger." Think: meat, art, culture. BK Jani moved from Buschwick to Williamsburg and is located in a relatively cozy shop surrounded by muraled walls. Sibte Hassan, an artist by trade, opened up JANI and brought a taste of cool Pakistan to NYC. It's pricey for a fast casual and they should hire more folks behind the counter which are the only reasons for docking one star. We walked in with a group of 5 on a Saturday night and it was busy! They're currently taking reservations for their outdoor backyard patio, and I'd highly suggest utilizing that! The wait for food was a solid 40 minutes but it came out fresh and hot. We ordered: The Jani: the OG burger. A thick and juicy beef patty full of flavor layered with a spread of mint chutney and a grilled tomato. The simplicity of this burger and the quality of meat used is what makes it what it is. I believe it runs $20 a pop. Masala fries: tasty and seasoned well, but nothing to write home about! On par with good standard fries at a good place with their homemade ketchup which is almost a marina-ry ketchup that adds a nice sweet touch to the salty fries. $6 for a large or $3 as a side. Lamb chops: juicy, chat-patti (no English word to really describe this word but finger lickin' spice). Quite pricey at $6/chop but a good enough experience. Ye cheese: Janis version of an American cheeseburger featuring spicy Mayo. Good stuff, would get it again next time. The food here is great but it's the culture of the institution that gets you to come back for a $20 burger. The owners story, the art, the cool Pakistani angle in BK, the community. BK Jani is a really interesting place. They merge indian and Mediterranean flavors into burgers and fries. They have lamb chops and some other items but they're best known for their burgers. I had the Jani Burger and the Grilled Veggies. The burger was different and good. The patty meat was top notch. Loved the flavors. The downside on the burger was between the 10 minute walk from the restaurant and my office the bottom patty got soggy and fragile. It kinda ruined the experience. I would suggest eating it immediately or the restaurant changing buns. The veggies were nice but over seasoned. Just way too much cayenne. The manager offered me some yogurt sauce for veggies that I turned down and boy do I regret it. The yogurt really would have tempered all those spices. Update on 12/27/19 Went yesterday to try out the Nihari Sandwich and it was amazing. They only serve from Tuesday to Thursday and is worth a trip just for that. AMAZING!!! I am out of words to describe the food this place dishes out. The BK Jani burger is out of this world and I have never had a better burger in my life....you have to give it a shot if you live in a 100-mile radius. Seriously!! I am really picky when it comes to lamb chops and usually find most places serving gamey or smelly lamb chops but BK Jani LAMB CHOPS are the best in New York without a doubt. I drove to Brooklyn 2 days in a row (45 minutes each way) just for the food and the owner Sibte is a really humble down to earth guy. I feel like I am a friend's place having a home-cooked meal.
