Representing 2019 as a runner-up for an original out of town pick, B is for BJ's. I visited BJ's twice before, once in Tysons Corner, VA in June 2014 (see my 4-star review written in May 2018) and this location on a nice very warm Saturday, March 30, 2019. I went to a Meetup group hike on the border of Washington & Frederick County, and I met up with a friend, who later became a girlfriend. She drove us from North Bethesda where I met her. This was a long hike, and we were all worn out. The organizer of the Meetup said let's go to BJ's in Frederick on the way back to Montgomery County (where his Meetup group was based). I was looking forward to getting the pizza I enjoyed at BJ's Tysons 5 years earlier. Service was decent as I recall, but the pizza was smaller than I remembered and didn't taste as good. It wasn't bad, but it was kind of small for the price; so overall I was kind of disappointed. It was also a bit dark inside the restaurant, which I like getting a nice view of my food. This Meetup group did a variety of activities but often walks & hikes. It was an introvert Meetup. I'm more of an ambivert meaning I'm sometimes extrovert but other times can be an introvert. My friend is a total extrovert and was loud & boisterous at lunch. I don't think the organizer of the Meetup took too kindly to her. Then, that friend became a girlfriend, and I took her to another of his Meetup for games in August 2019 for games in the park. Organizer seemed disappointed in me (even though I wasn't particularly close with him) when I introduced her as my girlfriend as he remembered her from hike & BJ's. It was kind of an ongoing joke with us how he didn't like her. Maybe one of these days, I'll go back to BJ's; there's a location close to me in Laurel, but I'd get something other than the pizza. read more

This review is SOLELY for BJ's new Dubai Chocolate Pizookie and let me just say...10/10!!! This pizookie needs to be on the menu permanently, PLEASE! At first glance, it looks a little overwhelming with all the chocolate syrup on top of the pizookie, but don't be fooled every single ingredient comes together perfectly. I'm very disappointed with my recent dining experience at BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse. I ordered the Spicy Pig Pizza and specifically requested, no ham and the jalapeños on the side. What I received looked nothing like the menu photo. The pizza resembled more of a thin, overcooked tortilla than an actual pizza. The cheese was burnt, the toppings were sparse and lacked flavor, and overall it was far below what I expected--especially for a $21.99 dish. Presentation and quality matter, and this felt misleading compared to how the item is advertised. Tuesday 3/5/2024 My opinion hasn't changed much but I did try some new items on my recent visit. Also I had to get my free annual birthday pizookie from them (always appreciated) and go for the 5$ pizookie Tuesdays. We got the 10 ct bacon jam bone-in wings $18, half - half deep dish pizza (half gourmet 5 meat & half great white) $35, and multiple $5 pizookies: cinnamon roll, chocolate chunk, Oreo creme, brownie sundae. I had high expectations trying the deep dish pizza for the first time and it was disappointing, I don't think it's worthy of the $35 to be that MID. The bacon jam wings and the strawberry lemonade are both pretty good. The pizookies are still the best item that they serve with my favorites being the Oreo creme, brownie sundae, monkey bread (sadly gone), and the cinnamon roll (sadly gone). The chocolate chunk pizookie was solid but it doesn't compare to my favorite pizookies. If I had 3 tiers to rank all the items I've had across the years it'd be: Tier 1: pizookies (Oreo creme-cinnamon roll-monkey bread-brownie sundae), bacon Jam wings, strawberry lemonade Tier 2: tri tip & baby back ribs, ribs Tier 3: prime rib, couscous Mac n cheese, loaded mashed potatoes, grilled chicken Alfredo, burger sliders All in all, the food is still mid to me EXCEPT for the bacon jam wings, strawberry lemonade, and of course the great pizookies which are the highlights for me. read more

This was so bad I felt sick and lost my appetite. And the burgers were so round and burnt we played hockey with the pattys. forgot my Caesar salad and still charged me. Everyone at my table sent their food back. The salmon tasted like you dumped four bottles of salt on it. I asked for a steak and fries. Nothing on it and they still put barbecue sauce on it. 1/27/26 lunch. Chili was so salty and beans crunchy. Service was quite slow and inattentive waitress.

They sat us all the way in the back where no one else was sat. It was a totally different room to everyone else, which I thought was super weird . The service was beyond slow and the food was just absolutely horrible. Everything was super dry and just did not look appealing at all what's so ever. Tri tip with chicken , grilled asparagus and a loaded baked potato is what's pictured. This is how it looked when it came out...... no where near medium rare. Super tough and could hardly cut through the Tri tip that was brought out to us. We also got the grilled salmon which wasn't much better, had this nasty tasting cream sauce that it came with. $83 later for two entrees and an appetizer is beyond crazy for the quality of food that came out. We ended up just paying our bill and leaving. Not worth the hassle at that point. Absolutely no intentions of ever going back after the quality of food and service we received. read more

12/28/2025 on my sons 21st Birthday, he wanted to try this restaurant. Walked in and the hostess was not very welcoming , I literally had to ask her if we seat ourselves because she gave no direction ,and she replied "the bar is self seating " I stated that we would like the dining room . Without a word she grabbed the menus and headed to a booth where we were seated. Our waiter ,(Donte) was awesome ! the food could have been better also. On our way out the hostess was talking to another employee and did not acknowledge us at all, however the young man she was talking to did say "have a good night !" which was helpful . We wandered to their imprint brand (Slo Roast). 1. Everyone pronounced the food good we had several items... a. Prime Rib (really good, would have liked a more very Horseradish, but overall good). b. Salmon (also pronounced good) c. Tips BBQ: The overall result was wise. It had a dry rub. The BBQ sauce was ok but could have been better. 2. The fries were a lot squishy. Which is ok but not epic 3. the salads were amazing! Now, the cool thing was the desserts! I have to say, given the fry failure or fry near miss, we were not expecting the desserts to be epic. Visited for Happy hour (M-F 3-6). They have pretty good deals for foods and drinks. I ordered mini pizza and avocado egg rolls ($7 each during HH). I was at the restaurant a couple of months ago and the waiter was absolutely rude and disrespectful. I talked to a person who called himself a manager, but he did not even try to ask about our number to follow up with us or even apologize. Two days ago, again we went there since we were close to the restaurant, and the waitress throw the menus on the table and when I told her I need a couple of minutes to look at the menu, she madly looked at me and showed the worst attitude and left us. I talked to a manager again, the same thin happened, he did not follow up with us or even being sorry for what happened. Just said that he will be talking to another manager. I think the management of the restaurant should find a better way to manage it, otherwise they will loose the business soon. read more

Came in for a late lunch and was craving a steak. Pictured in the menu was a nice sized Ribeye which I ordered medium rare. What I was served was the thinnest steak I've ever gotten, whatever seasoning was on it was burned which tasted horrible, and because it was so thin it was overcooked of course, maybe a hint of pink at best. Restaurants need to stop showing pictures of a thick ribeye only to serve these steaks that look like they were pounded flat. Additionally the waitress was trying to upsell everything from the appetizer to the $6 salad. Why is a side salad $6 anyway?? We won't be back. Food was good service was interesting. Ambiance was standard BJ's mood lighting, pretty lights at the bar, and the bathroom was clean. The downside was the attention to detail aspects, dust/grime around the dining tables, you could only rely on your specific server, etc. Other staff members would make eye contact and then quickly put their head down. Not sure why that's a thing now but it is what it is. We ordered a deep dish chicken bacon ranch pizza, wings, and brussel sprouts. Pro tip thanks to our server get extra sauce for the brussel sprouts. I'm happy they still have their berry cider (if you like sweet this is the one to go with!). I order BJs often from home and decided to change it up. The food was just okay nothing to brag about. The server was okay. we ordered the kids macaroni and cheese and they burnt it.. not sure why anyone would bring burnt food to the table but they did remake it. We also ordered a pizza which was also just okay. They need to clean the lights above the table as there was tons of dust. A friend of mine that lives in Frederick recommended we meet here for a late lunch. In lieu's of dealing with downtown Frederick with all the traffic and parking issues. I gave this a restaurant a three star ( not a four) mainly because of the atmosphere. About 10 -15 years ago , this was the restaurant vernacular with all the wood trim , darker decor and lighting . We both had burgers and they were very good. Well prepared and very tasty. The service was excellent and the young man that served us was great. Very cordial and on top of things. This is a perfect place for sports bar hoppers and if I was a drinker, it would be a perfect venue with the various beers on tap. The bill was very reasonable also compared to most restaurants I tried lately. read more

One person had undercooked Jambalaya, another asked for tomatoes held and they couldn't manage that, my dish had less than half the normal portion (and yes I checked they charged us full price) and the food took ages to show up. Had a super nice server, think her name was Maria, iirc. Dinner was delicious too. I really like my fish tacos. I prefer mine grilled. Had the avocado egg rolls as appetizer. Between those egg rolls and the sauce, we could have done 2 of them :). Well, I know I could have. That sauce was good! We got an email for survey, but couldn't read it properly as the questions looked like (in old typewriter fashion, the carriage return was stuck).lines written over each other. Anyhow, it was an enjoyable time and food was good. It does puzzle me at many a restaurant that they give you 2 forks and a knife. My Mom who was a Home Economics major used to have me set the family dinner table, said knife, fork, and spoon. I don't ever remember her saying two forks. Maybe that is just familiar setting? I don't have high hopes for hot pot restaurants in Maryland. I've been to all the places I should have been. Either the meat is too bad, the environment is bad, or the service is poor and the food is slow. Anyway, I haven't found anything I like yet. Until visiting this hot pot hero in Gaithersburg. Since it's a chain, we often go to the Ellicott City store so we weren't very excited before entering the store. But as soon as I entered the store, why did it suddenly feel like returning to my hometown? The waitress sister and a big fat black boy were extremely nice, not the kind with fake smiles but really meticulous service. The store is very clean, and the decor is not only very Chinese but also very upscale! iPad order, super fast food delivery. The little ingredients taste so good and fresh, and I commend their shop's homemade sweet and sour sauce, it's delicious! Meat, seafood and vegetables are also fresh. It is worth mentioning that it also has free pieces of chicken and husband's lungs, unlimited supply. Only regret is that my stomach is too small to taste all the dishes! When I finally left, there were still some left, and I blamed myself a lot. Order carefully next time. Price is for one person in their 30s on holidays and weekends, half price for children. If you want more ice cream, 99 points provide unlimited. You can also order milk tea next door. One downside is that the price of drinks is a bit high. After having an incredible redeeming dinner experience at the Hagerstown location where our server Ashley went above and beyond, we thought we had turned a corner in our funky brewhouse experiences. However, tonight's experience was similar to our Valentine's Day service. Mind you, a majority of the food presented was nicely prepared, however it was not at all similar to the same menu items previously ordered in Hagerstown a little over a month ago. We started with the Spinach and Artichoke dip that looked like it had been tossed into the bowl by someone in a rush with a smattering of chips, of which at least 25% were of the crushed variety. Flavor was good but the dip was not near the HACCP serving temperature but our daughter being with us, we did not want us to send items back. So we ate the appetizer and placed our order. My wife and I ordered the Tri-Tip Wedge salad and the Honey-Sriracha Brussels Sprouts to split because the size of the salad presented in Hagerstown was incredibly huge with two large wedges of iceberg with lots of dressing, blue cheese and bacon, along with the Tri-Tip. When ours came to the table tonight it looked to be the same size as that of the side wedge salad offered at the Hagerstown Location. It looked like a large wedge was cut in half and plated instead of two wedges plated to go along with the Tri-Tip. The Brussel Sprouts were also less in size than offered in Hagerstown, and both items were at least 15% higher in price, which is understandable for the location. However, with the increase in price and less on the plate it seemed a bit odd in comparison to the redemption meal recently enjoyed in Hagerstown. I can understand the price increase for the area, but seriously, you had to scrimp on iceberg, one of the least expensive forms of lettuce on the market? I will say the Tri-Tip was cooked perfectly and deliciously presented, even though we were never asked at what temp we'd like it cooked. At least he asked my daughter how she wanted her burger. When the salad and sprouts were delivered we thought my daughter's burger would be right out as well. She ordered the BJS Bacon Cheeseburger with regular cut fries and added on avocado. It never arrived, we waited about 5 minutes and still nothing, so when we flagged down the waiter about 10 minutes later he said the ticket had been sold and the expeditor gave him the food without the burger. Never once apologizing for the error other than explaining how it happened, like I needed to go back into the kitchen to expedite my own food. Plus, we had to ask for silverware when he asked us if we needed anything else. He brought the silverware and told us the burger would be out shortly, so my wife and I began eating our meal, and shortly turned into another 15 minutes later when the burger arrived, after we had finished our meal. My daughter liked the burger but was more interested in enjoying her meal as she had to wait over 25 minutes for hers to arrive at the table after ours. To top it off the extra add on of Avocado was three small edge pieces, looking like someone was trying to slice down one section of sliced avocado to stretch it out. If you are offering sliced avocado as an add on then add it on! I've seen more avocado left in a skin from people preparing guacamole than was offered on the burger. To finish the meal we ordered the Pizookie trio and they did arrive within a reasonable amount of time, as the ice cream had not fully melted upon arrival. Lastly, the biggest concern was the lack of communication similar to the Valentine's Day meal in Hagerstown. Yandha S. needs to go to Hagerstown and take some serving lessons from Ashley, our last server. Where she was bright, engaging, spot on and communicative, Yandha was not, unless you were friends, then he takes the time to sit at your booth with you to take your order like he did with the table behind us. I'm beginning to loose hope for BJs and had it not been for Ashley in HAgerstown, I think we'd be done with the entire dining experience. All Yandha had to do was communicate what was going on and make it right in much more efficient and expedited manner. I know the pitfalls of foodservice and I understand the issues with lack of qualified staffing, but when I go out to a meal with my family I want to enjoy myself with them, and not be entertained by the lack of service. Not sure why there are so many low reviews, we enjoy BJ's every time we visit. We had a great time during our most recent visit which was with 5 kids for my daughters 10th birthday. The food and service is always good. The restaurant is clean and the prices are fair. In fact the kids meals are a great deal (about $7 for a starter of fruit and oyster crackers, entree, a side and a drink). Both the main menu and kids menu have a great variety. The pizookies are delicious and while one may be too big if not sharing the mini's are perfect. Join the rewards program and get points for discounts. read more

I previously gave this location a five star review; however, my last visit was horrible. I ordered the fish tacos and honestly thought they forgot the fish. I dug through the taco and found the smallest piece of fish I had ever seen. Each taco had ONE piece of fish the size of my pinky. We were also going to order a beer but never saw our waitress again after she took our order. I give my meal a negative one star rating and our service a zero star rating. I work for the Frederick DHS as a health inspector. While off duty. I witnessed an employee being harassed and touched inappropriately by an employee here and I will be making my complaint to the attorney general. I was speaking to the on duty manager Stephen. And he flat out walked away from me mid sentence. He was extremely dismissive. But if me or the victimized employee are retaliated against there will be an interesting turn of events. read more

The only reason there are any stars are because the food was decent so the kitchen didn't suck but the service was beyond slow. It took the server Angel so long in a very dead restaurant to get our food to our table, so long that it had started cooling already. She disappeared for a solid 10 minutes after we asked for our to-go box and then upon returning to the floor completely forgot for another 20 minutes while running the 6 other tables their food etc. Hopefully their BOH kitchen staff has better hygiene than the front of house staffs as their ONLY bartender kept pulling his mask down to RUB his RUNNY NOSE on his bare hands !!! He even touched his mouth with bare fingers and went right to making drinks, getting ice and pulling beer from the tap without once washing his hands! Hygiene is always important but clearly a COVID pandemic is not the time to flaunt poor hygiene. Update to include response to managers response Feb 3 2022: there were NOT ANY managers on the floor, being someone that's worked BOH and FOH a manager was the FIRST thing my table looked for, there was not a single manager around, and "table touches" were NOT preformed which was another issue all together, after an hour and a forty minutes for one pizza. The person that did "table touches" and CLEARED/bussed the tables was the bartender, which was disgusting because he had his fingers in his mouth and touching his face without washing his hands... no less during a pandemic where he could be KILLING people or making them very sick!!!
