We did a happy hour event here in the bar area. The event staff was a bit hard to get a hold of in the planning process but overall the event went well. We had a variety of appetizer foods that everyone enjoyed. Helpful staff on site. We had the following: Scallop ceviche, Duck foie gras terrine, Oysters, Cheese and meat platters. We went to Bivouac for a special treat night and it was the worst food we had in Montreal. We tried several different things with some being terrible and some okay, but it's pretty pricey for "okay." The service was also pretty terrible with the server not checking in after our main dishes were served. The cocktails were pretty good and the ambiance is nice. So maybe go for a drink but not the food? read more

They were fined for DIRTYNESS last March AND they are RUDE just at the coaches running in that kitchen . Just you basic Hilton cheap hotel restaurant. This is a review of the MTL À TABLE experience. I made a reservation through Libro and was pleasantly surprised that they called me the day before to confirm my reservation. They were also very attentive to my request for a quiet corner in the restaurant. 5 stars for attentiveness. The place was nearly empty at 6pm but by 8pm was almost full so it does start to get lively in there. They automatically offered the printed MTL À TABLE menu and the regular menu by QR code on a paper coaster. I started with a Fraîcheur d'été mocktail. It was reasonably good for a mocktail, obviously lacks the bitter balance that would've come with alcohol. When we looked at the MAT menu, we were confused as this was NOT the $39 menu we saw on the MAT website--we were sold and salivating about the duck and salmon steak on the menu which is why we were there. Our waiter Benjamin apologized and explained that it was a delay on MAT's website not processing their request to update the menu. We were bummed...but Benjamin came to the rescue and offered the previous menu price instead of today's menu price ($45) so that was much appreciated. We both took the gravlax and IMO it was a little pretentious. The labneh didn't really add much and the crispy rye bread were thin shavings. For the main, we both had the mackerel but I was hesitant because mackerel has the potential to be really fishy...so I wondered what treatment they would give it. To my surprise, it was the little marinated cherry tomatoes that stole the show. They went fantasticly well with the mackerel which btw was not fishy at all. I enjoyed the pairing with the tomatoes so much, I asked Benjamin for more tomatoes and he promptly brought over a couple more in a little sauce cup which I finished the last bites of fish with. As for dessert, my friend had her dessert replaced with a crème brulée due to a food intolerance while I had the blueberry financier cake. The cake was soft, fragrant and lightly sweet--I could definitely use a couple more of these! After we paid our bill, we just hung out on the rooftop terrace overlooking the Place Des Arts for another hour. It's a perfect thing to do on a warm summer night. Even though the service had ended and they had closed the terrace, there were still waiters coming to check on us and brought us water and drinks. This place has a great vibe, attentive service and a wonderful view. An additional perk is that parking is free after 4pm for any bill above $50 before taxes so that's really helpful. Keep an eye out for their MAT menu as they will change it 3 times for the whole period. read more

It was my first time in Montreal and I was looking for an upscale eatery with local inspired dishes, and this was the place. In short, everything from the ambience, food, and service was top notch. Special shout-out to service from Naomie, she was so personable and genuinely friendly. She took the time to get to know us as patrons and it felt like getting to know a friend -- she took care of us! From her excellent "silent service" of refilling drinks and taking care of our needs without having to ask, to her prompt table service of taking orders and getting us ready for the next course, she felt like a caring family member. I especially enjoyed her drink recommendations and wine pairing with dinner. Drinks: the peach gin drink was phenomenal. Perfectly balanced and refreshing with the right amount of sweetness. The bourbon lemonade was quite strong and only recommended if you're a fan of bourbon. The food was excellently prepared and perfect portion size. Local fare included trout and duck paired with seasonal sides. Everything was perfectly cooked, and the dishes had thoughtful and unique flavour profiles. We especially enjoyed the pouding au chômeur, a local casual favourite that was done with an upscale touch and served with a delicious house-made maple icecream. read more

I had a very disappointing experience here. A family member has food allergies, and this restaurant was not good about trying to work around their menu to give her a satisfying meal. The lamb confit had a sauce that she could not consume, and the restaurant only offered to make the dish without the sauce. It came out looking like cat food and was extremely bland, making it inedible. They additionally forgot to give her the potatoes that she had requested. My filet mignon had no crust whatsoever, which detracted from the good flavor that it had. The scallops I ordered were done perfectly. Yes, food allergies are a difficult issue for restaurants, but they could have done much better to accommodate a guest. At least have a salad on the menu. Lastly, the menus are too compact and the print too small for the low-level lighting they use. read more

We decided it was time get out and enjoy Montreal after a long winter/pandemic and chose Bivouac from its participation in Montreal en Lumiere. We easily got a reservation for Saturday night not knowing it was also La Nuit Blanche. The Place des Arts was full and exciting with a great crowd and vibe. The resto is in the DoubleTree Hotel @ Complex Desjardin in the middle of everything. We were seated promptly with a great view of the Place. Service was slow after and we waited for probably 15-20 mins before our server came to take our drinks order. The wine list is very good with good selection from Quebec. There were 2 menu selections. The en Lumiere menu or main a la carte menu. We selected the en Lumiere which had 2-3 choices for entree (appetizer) plat principal (entree) and dessert. There was a meat, fish or vegetarian options. After initial wait for service the servers came more timely and we received our courses promptly and at a good temperature. Both our plat principals were very good but not remarkable. Given the expectation from the Montreal en Lumiere website and notable chef inspired dishes. It's was just ok. We both had the panda cotta dessert which was just so-so. Overall experience was good but not a resto we go out our way to eat at again. Other menu seemed pricey and compared with the special menu would need something to give a better rating. We had a great experience in the Refuge du Bivoac dome for two. The food was great and the wine pairing was excellent. It is a great experience to hang out in an igloo overlooking the arts center where we enjoyed appetizers on the couch then moved to the table for dinner and dessert. We were also surprised with a violonist who played several times during our meal. It was a fantastic dinner! read more

I attempted to have a drink at the bar tonight, and the main doors to the restaurant were closed (the same doors I had walked through the two previous nights) leaving me to try to figure out how to enter. Finally, upon entry I was informed that I had to be escorted to the bar to be seated (also unlike the previous two nights) and I was beginning to question whether I would patronize... I declined a menu, and a few minutes later Patrick came to make me move from the seat I was in, and at this point, I knew I was leaving. Treating your customers with open hostility because they choose not to sit directly next to someone at an open bar is weird, and as I was leaving Patrick confronted me about why. I told him the whole experience was weird. Patrick then informed me that I was weird, and stepped to within a few inches of me in an aggressive manner.
