Dined here on Christmas Day for dinner. No reservations but the manager was able to seat us right away. The holiday decor was very pretty and we sat next to the window. The restaurant interior did have gatsby vibes. Our server was very friendly, attentive and it was nice that she and the manager both spoke English and French. We ordered French onion soup, short horn beef burger, oeuf meurette, volaille, and a blushing botanical (drink). The soup was warming and had a deep onion flavor. The oeuf meurette was a tasty egg dish and came with crispy croutons and stewy sauce. The burger came with fries. Both were good the burger also had bacon, caramelized onions, and Quebec cheddar. Had dinner here during my stay at the Fairmont and it was good but not amazing. The Icelandic Cod was my favorite because the kohlrabi milk foam was very tasty and unique. But for $55, it seemed a bit overpriced. Their breakfast buffet, however, was much better because it included a made-to-order omelet station. On our last night at The Fairmont Queen Elizabeth we decided to try the restaurant in the hotel. We had a reservation and were seated right away. We had eaten breakfast in the restaurant each morning and it was always delicious. The atmosphere is calm and modern. Our server was quick to the table and so friendly and personable. We ordered our drinks and listened to the three piece band playing soothing dinner songs. Mr. Bee was craving a burger so that was his meal for the evening. I chose the house made spaghetti with a watercress cream sauce and whipped goat cheese. The burger was fine, he said the patty was a bit overcooked and dry, but still good, just not how he likes his burgers. My pasta was so good. The watercress sauce was like pesto, but different in a great way. I had never had a watercress sauce and I will absolutely order it again, it was fresh and not bitter, the whipped goat cheese cut through the richness of the sauce. I absolutely loved this dish. We were surprised when an anniversary plate of desserts was delivered to our table. Our travel agent had put that on our reservation and the hotel recognized it when we arrived and now the restaurant recognized it. That is excellent service. From the moment we walked into Rosélys, we knew we'd receive impeccable service. The hostess sat us by the window, given it was a rainy day, it was the perfect view given we had just arrived to Montreal. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, clean, and spacious. We started with the Buffalo Mozzarelle and Maraichère salad accompanied by the pasta of the day, Du Dauphin 's Raviolis and Hamburger and Fries. Enjoying afternoon tea at Roselys, you could be forgiven for thinking you were transported to a different era. The restaurant was decorated art déco style, and we were dressed in our better clothes to enjoy each other's company along with 3 tiers of food. Throughout the restaurant, multi-generational families enjoyed conversation over individual teapots, tiny sandwiches, and scones with Devonshire cream. I selected the La Douceur tea, which is described as having notes of caramel and chocolate. Delicious. The scones, plain and raisin, were fantastic. I loved most of the mini sandwiches - the pastrami and the gougère ones were stale. The deviled egg, cucumber, and savory macaron were stellar, though. The desserts were mouthfuls of heaven. Each one was delicious and different: Chocolate brownie, sweet carrot macaron, pistachio club, lemon tart with yuzu jelly, petit écolier. We enjoyed the tiers of food, good conversation, and the luxury of time, which is sorely missing from most social interactions. I loved that our table was by the large window so that we could people-watch. One note though - our table was so small and the tiered caddy so large, we had to contort ourselves to be seen by each other. This was my best and most favorite dining experience that I had during my brief vacation in Montréal. My family stumbled across this place on accident, after touring the underground city all day. We were so lucky we around Rosélys. The food, service, and ambiance were great all around. We were very hungry for lunch and were seated right away. My grandpa and I both ordered the burger, which came with a starter salad... both were absolutely delicious! The salad was great, a big fresh portion with tasty lemon-olive oil dressing. The burger was also superb, cooked to perfection with tasty toppings and sauce. It was also huge! The everything seasoned bun was what really made it, it was amazing! The fries were also a great compliment to the dish. My grandma ordered the soup of the day, which was a zucchini soup with bacon bits, and she said it was one of the best soups she's ever had. While Fairmont dinning options are middling in my experience they serve a purpose i.e. no surprises and food that would not offend. This is a giant hotel after all and geared towards conventions. I ended up here as was catching up a train right around rush hour. Having checked in the luggage at via rail (yup that's an option for same day travel) and being somewhat light. I had to kill a bit of time and have food while working. This one fit the bill. I even got a spot next to a power plug which is great. The service is decent and I went with the prixe fixe lunch. They have a decent beer selection on tap which I availed after work hours. The app was decent while the burger being OK. My girlfriend and I were excited to try to high tea on the weekend, it was confirmed for the Barbie dream experience, however it was regular high tea. Our table was missing the Barbie menu which were on other tables. There were a few raffles, win one night stay in the hotel and win a ring from the collection at the entrance. Expect to wait long in between getting the tea and food. Our waitress was quick to explain each level, without showing which item she was referring to. She never checked on us to see if we needed anything. She did change an item due to an allergy, which was appreciated. The teas were lukewarm, which was mentioned in other reviews. We opted for jasmine and black tea. The top level (savory bites) had mostly tasty items, except the foie gras macaron. The best was the puff pastry with gougére cheese and miso. The middle level of scones were not warm, although tasty with the cream. You can choose from different jams: strawberry, orange and raspberry. The bottom level (sweet table) were not overly sweet, the raspberry macaron was the best. It took very long to receive the bill, and we were even told to give up the table when it was due to the wait time. Overall atmosphere is nice, and there is booth seating. Many were dressed in pink, and taking photos. I would not return for high tea, perhaps for drinks at their bar with colleagues. read more

Rosélys is the restaurant on the ground floor of Fairmont The Hotel Queen Elizabeth in Montreal. My husband and I stayed at the hotel last week and decided one evening to have dinner at Roselys. We had such a good time that we returned the following evening! The restaurant is large and elegant with huge glass windows. We were asked if we wanted to sit by the windows but my husband was drawn to the terrific live jazz band that was playing on the opposite side of the room. So he asked if we could sit closer to the music which was a real treat. While everything on the menu sounded remarkably good, an excellent wait staff makes all of the difference. Sylvain is the staff member who took care of us. He was friendly, humorous and very knowledgeable. The char appetizer that I ordered looked raw like sashimi, but he explained that it was actually cooked using a technique called sous vide. Wow. It was delicious. I'd also recommend the Chinese broccoli which was cooked perfectly. My husband and I shared the grilled octopus and couscous appetizer, which was also a hit. Did I want something to drink? I wasn't sure. My husband was having a beer and a double scotch. Sylvain recommended a cocktail for me called, "The Right Word." It consists of gin, St. Germain liquor, vermouth and lime. He said if I didn't like it, he would drink it himself. That made me laugh. I agreed. It was great. I was on my way to the ladies room when my husband surprised me and asked for a dance. We happened to be standing directly in front of the band. No one else was dancing and we're not great dancers, but people stopped to compliment us afterwards. We had such a great time that we returned the next evening for a late supper and a nightcap. This time, we sat at the bar. Our bartender, Adrian, was so helpful and welcoming. The jazz band had long since gone home, but the bar had a friendly vibe all its own. Of course, I ordered the char again! My husband ordered a hamburger which he really enjoyed. He shared some of his wonderful fries and salad with me. I noticed that some Yelp reviews complained that the meals were pricey. Given the exchange rate, my US dollars went farther. During a quick visit to Montréal, our team decided an early night was in order and we would try out the hotel restaurant, Roselys. Roselys is located in the main floor of the Fairmont Hotel. I had tried the breakfast which was great, and includes a comprehensive buffet (but no fresher pressed juice was a bummer). I was excited to try dinner. The service was great, very friendly with knowledgeable team members. The wine selection was a bit random with a variety of countries and regions represented. The salads were all delicious, and one person ordered zucchini fritters which she really liked. The entres were okay...in all honesty, it was just great to be there in the hotel and easy breezy. Being in bed early when you have a 4:00am wake up is the best!! And it is nice to have this delicious option right there in the hotel. High tea at the Fairmont was a very special experience, the service was amazing, and a couple of tweaks to the desserts and email communications could have made it perfect. To celebrate a special occasion with my sister, I decided to take her and my mother out to the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth for high tea. I emailed to inquire about reserving a spot on a Sunday about a week in advance and inquiring about dietary requirements; apparently all of my emails went through, because the reservation and all of the notes were on file, but I only ever received one reply, and this was delayed by several days, so I wound up having to visit in person to confirm when I was in the neighborhood. In future, I would advise calling instead of emailing to make a reservation. We arrived at Rosely's for our scheduled time and were warmly greeted by the staff and taken upstairs where our coats were taken and hung up. The high tea is served on the second floor dining room overlooking the "Marie, Reine du monde" church, away from the hustle and bustle of the brunch crowd in the restaurant below. Our table was set with an eclectic mix of plates and cups; it felt very regal but also whimsical with all the different colours. We were brought menus describing the different teas as well as a plate of sample bottles so we could smell our desired blends. We chose a spiced bazaar tea (spicy but also very smooth), the house icewine tea (a white tea that tasted fruity and floral - the best of the bunch), and a green tea (which had a typical grassy aroma but a smooth taste) so we could experience a spectrum of different blends. The teas came out in different styles of teapots (British and Japanese, notably) with a little timer to tell us when to take out the leaves. The chef modified the food platter to suit our needs as lacto-ovo vegetarians. The scones were very well baked and I enjoyed the Devonshire cream with them - it really reminded me of days having tea in England. The jams and caramel spread were a little disappointing, though: they weren't bursting with flavor, and instead just tasted like colored sugar. The savory dishes were mind-blowing, including a macaron with goat's cheese in it, a tiny avocado toast with a sundried tomato, and a pink deviled egg. The desserts, unfortunately, were a little disappointing. The jujubes and marshmallow were okay, the pear tart was so-so, and the chocolate cake was not tasty at all - I would have expected better given the rest of the items we ate. Overall, the bites of food were beautifully presented and filling, but the desserts let down an otherwise flawless experience. Most people tend to linger when they were having tea, but we were on a schedule, so we were advised to tell our waiter in advance so the service would come out quickly. My sister and mother definitely thought the experience was unique, and I think I would consider doing it again but would like to see some different options on the dessert platter next time. read more

That was one disappointing Mother's Day brunch. Don't get me wrong, the food was all good, but at $125 per person, the cost was so out of line with what was actually served that it felt like we were getting robbed. I would expect to pay $50, maybe $75 for the 'holiday,' but $125 was insane. The big draw over the phone was supposed to be lobster, but the lobster that was served was a small roll mixed with crab and shrimp. Ni crab legs or claws to be had, no lobster outside the roll, and only one other shrimp dish. he other stars of the cold side were oysters, lox and a beef carpaccio, but that doesn't add up to the cost. On the hot side they were carving a nice roast, pork loin and duck breast, but that isn't special. I was hoping for rack of lamb (it was prat of the Easter menu), but that wasn't on offer. The rest of the hot food was really nothing special. I didn't even bother with the omelet bar, what are they going to produce to justify the cost. Dessert were really good, but again nothing all that special. For the price, they didn't even do a good job keeping the coffee and juice topped up, and champagne (even the cheap stuff) wasn't included at the price. Went to Rosélys for High Tea with some girlfriends! The table featured beautiful original British tea sets (Wedgewood) and the service was very nice! There was a mix of savoury sandwiches and sweet treats. They , also, has scones which were to die for! The scones combined with the crème fraîche and confiture were heavenly! Their selection of gourmet teas are very nice , I highly recommend the Icewine (Ontario) if you like anything Riesling-y. Other notable mentions (regarding teas) include Long Island Strawberry and Earl Gray Crémeux. I let them know that one of my friends is allergic to shellfish and peanuts and they were very accommodating, creating her a custom menu! To start, the octopus was nicely presented and very tender. Their walleye ceviche lacked flavour for a cured fish and the plating was just sauce covering the fish. For mains, the cod I ordered had a nice foam and a lot of edamame beans. The fish was cooked well, not too dry but the flavours were mellow. Although I really enjoyed my experience at the Nacarat located in the same hotel, I must admit that my experience at the Rosélys was rather disappointing. We had a reservation at noon and were seated very quickly, the waiter presented us with the table d'hôte menu which immediately caught our attention as it lacked variety. As starters, we had the choice between a salmon gravlax and a salad with seafood, for one of my colleagues who can't eat seafood, let's say that it was quite restrictive. Then, on all the proposed main courses, only one was not fish-based: the beef tenderloin. I ordered the salmon gravlax and the lobster and scallop gnocchi. Given that the day before had been festive for me, I abstained from ordering wine but the proposed selection which came with the table d'hôte seemed to be very good according to the others. Our starters arrived fairly quickly, then. it. was. long... very very long ... We arrived at noon and still had not received our plates at 1:30... and we weren't the only ones, as most of the room was without their order and many did not seem very happy. We ended up receiving our long-awaited main courses that we had to swallow at full speed while paying our bills and having to run back to the office in record time ... The food was very good but we were unanimous on the fact that we won't come back, at least not during lunch hour because there's clearly a lack of coordination. read more

I initially wanted to eat and have drinks at Nacarat but some of the menu items I wanted were not available such as the lobster Mac and cheese and the beef tartare. So I had one drink which they also have at Rosélys called Dubonnet and left. If you wanna try a light gin drink I recommend it. I had a glass of Robert Mondavie Pinot Noir at Rosélys and it was very good! Rosélys is big and a nice looking restaurant. There's an open kitchen so you can see the chef and sous chefs working. The reason I'm giving it only three stars is because the service was pretty bad. It took an hour to get our entrees and we kept having to ask for water. The waiter said it's because two tables were keeping them busy but the restaurant was not very busy. My cousin and I shared two starters. We had the Eastern Township Rainbow Trout and the roasted octopus. Out of the two I preferred the octopus. It was good but not amazing. It had curried cauliflower and capers in it. I had the 6oz beef flank which was tasty especially the sauce. It was so buttery. There were mushrooms and string beans as well. Normally they put almonds on it but because my cousin is allergic we asked them not to put any. The meal was good but perhaps a bit pricy for the size and for what it was. My cousin had the Arctic char. I took a bite. It didn't have much flavour to be honest. My dish was definitely better. Besides the steak the food was just ok. Had dinner on the last day of August, general comment comes first: this restaurant is a shame to the renowned Fairmont name and the term "fine dinner". 1) Creepy food. Can you believe it that all the chips were cold and soft; 2) During the whole dinner, the server in charge of our table did not even refill the water for only once; 3) The server did not even came to do the routine greetings, like "how's everything going" or "Is everything ok". Therefore we didn't even get a chance to have the water refilled; 4) We ordered steak, but the server did not even ask "how would you like your steak". May I ask if there is only one way to cook steak? 5) Racial discrimination. All guests around us were served well. They did not have some water refill problems. After the server refilling water at our next table, he saw our empty glasses, then just walked away. Oh, all these guests were not Asian looking face. Then I finally got the point that it is racial discrimination. Conclusion:1) I strongly recommend my Asian fellows to avoid this restaurant, or at least avoid the server with a letter G in his surname. 2) Please take the comments on Google and yelp seriously, especially recent comments and negative comments. I've been waiting with bated breath for them to re-open because the Fairmont was one of my regular spots. I'd had tea at le Montréalais before where the food was decent but service and decor were so-so, all off-set by the much-better-than-Toronto prices. I had a sort of crappy day last week and decided that I needed to cheer myself up with afternoon tea. Unfortunately for me, it was too late to go to the Ritz and all the other places I was looking at were either too far away (because I had a plane to catch), closed, or required reservations a day in advance. So the Rosélys it was. I was shocked at how much they increased the price after the renovation - afternoon tea sans alcohol was $26 at the Montréalais, pre-renovation. Now itès $37 at the Rosélys (compared to I think $35 at the Ritz and $25ish in other, less fancy but well-reputed tea rooms). But I had a bad day, so I needed to do what I had to do. The service was great. Someone was nice enough to carry my suitcase upstairs (because the tea room is on the second floor of the restaurant) and the staff were wonderful - perfect mix of attentive but not overbearing. They wheeled out a fancy cart with lots of bottles of champagnes in it to try to entice you to go for the more expensive option, but I'm not a big drinker, so I didn't bite. They also brought out a selection of tea leaf samples in pretty bottles for you choose your tea, and I went with the classic Darjeeling, which is one of my faves. The china is gorgeous, and the decor is very new. They brought out my pot of tea with a cute little tea timer that tells you how long to let it steep for, depending on how strong you want your tea. I found that my tea never really got as strong as I wanted though, so I'm not sure if the timer wasn't compatible with my tea or if they didn't give me enough leaves. But regardless, the tea was nice. They provide rock sugar for your tea, which is beautiful and fun but which I find annoying in practical use because it takes forever to dissolve. My tea service came shortly after, with a nice selection of tiny savoury pieces, pastries, and two scones. The savoury sandwiches were nice - a basic cucumber, a basic egg salad one, a nice smoked salmon option, and my favourite - some kind of creamy, savoury seafood concoction. In an ideal world, I'd have just a couple pieces each of the salmon and the seafood! Very good. The pastries were alright. Very rich, decadent hazelnutty, crunchy chocolate cake with a layer of what tasted like panna cotta. There was a lemon tart, which was good despite it not being my cup of tea - ditto the carrot confit macaron. There was a very buttery tasting fruity poundcake, which I enjoyed, a fruit tart, and buttery cookie topped with white chocolate. The scones are my favourite part of any tea and it was the part that kind of fell short. They were very good-looking, smooth scones and I tend to prefer more rugged, jagged scones (like the Kitten and the Bear in Toronto). I found their scones to be quite dense. Buttery, but a bit heavy for my preference. Worst of all was the jam. I think they serve jam from their gourmet shop - they come in these cute, little pots - but they must be 'healthy jam' because it lacked flavour. Wasn't very sweet or fruity (I had the raspberry)...tasted like the healthy, 'twice the fruit, less sugar' jams I get at the supermarket. So that wasn't great. At two points, someone came out to give me surprise, complimentary food, which I appreciated. The first was a savoury pea puree cube, meant to be dipped in a yogurt that reminded me of tzatziki, and crushed pistachios. They instruct you to eat it in a bite. It was very creamy - must have been avocado in there - and savoury. Not what I'm used to, but it was interesting. The second was a sweet one - a cube of raspberry-red pepper um...solidified cream? Dipped in white chocolate, also meant to be eaten in one bite. Not my thing but it was different and interesting and of course, free food is always very much welcome and appreciated. Overall, the servers and the ambience were wonderful, and I loved their beautiful china. But the food was just so-so. Combined with the newly elevated prices...I'm not sure it's worth it. But they are the only ones providing full afternoon tea service in a central area without having to make reservations and without a 3:30pm-latest-sitting, so they could easily do well just based on convenience. read more

I don't usually eat at the hotel Resto however I decided to try today based on how impressed I had been with the renovations the hotel has undergone and the atmosphere was quite inviting. Nice decor, friendly professional wait staff and a new ope kitchen concept. I had the kale salad and the daily chef's creation. He salad was very good, the dressing had great flavour without overtaking the kale. My main course was a risotto. I love risotto and when the dish arrived, it looked very appetizing. Sadly the whole-wheat risotto lacked flavour. I think the whole-wheat took nature of the grain tool away any chance of rich flavour I was expecting. This was a disappointment for me as I was really looking forward to it. Great ambience, awesome service, I would try something else next time. read more

Atlantic halibut confit, Vicky's citrus butter, lentil, and clam croquette. Alright guys, hear me out. Whether you like it or not, Rosélys is indeed a bougie place and beautifully designed, I'll give them that. But there's just something about hotel restaurants that makes me unsure. My ordinary Moscow mule at $20 a pop makes me cringe- I mean Angel's Share in NYC charges their cocktail at that price but I can totally can justify and confirm that it's worth every single sip. Because it is located inside of the Queen Elizabeth hotel, I somehow had certain expectations. The good thing is that our waiter was extremely friendly but that's as far as it gets. Here are the things that stood out the most: * The ciabatta bread from Costco taste way better than their bread. Sorry guys, but for an upscale environment I truly expected more. When the bread is bad, you know you're in for a bad rollercoaster ride. * You only started giving us little plates because one of our guests asked you to. In my humble opinion, when you serve bread to your clients, you make sure that they have all the necessary cutlery, unless you don't mind the crumbs everywhere. *HOLY FUCK, the service was truly unbearably slow. Maybe because we were a party of 30 people? Regardless, the order was taken at 7:00pm and we only received our main course at 9:00pm. *Because we had a large party, we were forced to have a group menu and the choice for the main course was either the halibut or chicken. You know there's an issue when all your guests prefer the fish but the halibut wasn't even that great to begin with. Sad to say but there are so many better options and competition in Montreal that I unfortunately will not come back to Roselys. With my eyes closed, I can certainly name you upscale restaurants with better service and food that are worth your dime and time. read more

Afternoon tea. Pure luxury. Champagne, and incredible service. The food was absurd. Deviled egg with lobster and caviar, foie gras on an oat cracker, and so on.... we sat for hours. The dining room is gorgeous, and well spaced. There is a hum of chatter, but you aren't forced to listen to the tables next to you. From the hostess, to the bartender, to our server during tea, the service was 5 stars. read more

Went there for breakfast to celebrate a special anniversary. The decor is absolutely beautiful and what a view of the cathedral... Unfortunately the good ends there. The service is cold and rushed, with the waitress repeatedly spilling coffee all over the table with each pour. The breakfast buffet is underwhelming to say the least. Very poor vegetarian selection. Especially given the steep price. But the worst would have to be the many dirty plates and bowls found in the piles of clean dishes in the buffet line. We saw quite a few hairs and chunks of dried food in the bowls near the fruit and yogurt bar. Honestly save yourself the pain of coming here and try any of the many delicious brunch options available in Montreal. Lets hope that lunch and dinner options are better here. read more
