Perhaps I ordered the wrong dishes but the food fell flat for me. I tried the brioche and salmon tartare and both dishes lacked flavour. The brioche was way too bready and the goat cheese, onions, cranberries didn't match well. The textures were hard on the exterior but soggy inside. I was left with too much dough at the end of my meal. The tartare was ok, but the fennel was overpowering. And the bread that came with it was hard, bordering stale. The cappuccino was good. La Fabrique is a lively and bustling brunch spot just a few minutes walk from the Sherbrooke station on the Orange line metro. It was quite busy so reservations are recommended. The food is creative with influences from all over the world, and they have a pretty decent wine list as well with some options from Quebec (although very few BTG options). We opted for a bottle of Quebec sparkling rosé, which was fresh with light red fruits, and a lovely acidity that paired well with the salmon dish my wife ordered. I opted for the beef tartare, which was less traditional in its preparation, lacking cornichons and/or capers, and having a fancy smoked egg yolk piped on top. The salmon was perfectly pan seared and the beef tartare was good as well, though I wish there was a bit more bread to use to scoop up the beef. Overall, the food was good. Our server was awesome - super friendly but also very efficient. He was overseeing a number of tables, but we always felt we were checked in on, our wine was always topped up, and we were never without water. Easily the best service we received in Montreal. Overall, this place was great and our mouths were watering as they were bringing out the dishes for other tables. There were at least 4-5 items on the menu that looked great and we hope to be able to visit again soon to try more of them. read more

So we came here just for the pancake with the poached egg now for me to go into detail first of all we are a party of nine they were able to see us in the bar area, which was super cute. The service was timely and the staff offered us recommendations because everything on the menu seemed intriguing. My recommendation is the French toast. What a delightful dish. I'm giving a VERY begrudging 4 stars but it wasn't the best experience overall. We had a reservation for 8PM and decided to sit at the bar. Nice vibe, nice guy doing drinks for the restaurant and serving us. Everyone there was nice in fact. Got our drinks and shortly after we each order one of the 3 course menus they were offering. We sit and sip our drinks for prob 30 min and here comes some bread and dip. Why did that come 40 min after we sat down? I assumed this was a no bread place. Then it was prob another 30 for the app. It was a raclette type dish and tasty but this was getting ridiculous and no updates from anyone. My friend asked if the mains would be coming at the 90 min mark and we were finally told that things were screwed up cuz they weren't used to this menu. Or something like that. My quail dish was good but now I'm just pissed that we've been there almost 2 hrs so I asked for dessert to be packed up. They should have given us our wines for free rather than offering a little after dinner drink which I wasn't in the mood for. It also made me late for my next destination so I just bagged it cuz of this excruciatingly long experience. Walked in on a Sunday morning around 10:30am and it was already busy and had some tables reserved. We did not have a reservation but they were able to squeeze us in for an hour time slot if we ordered right away. The food took a little longer than expected but we were able to finish within the hour. The food was creative and delicious. I had the pancakes which were fluffy but a little dry even with the sauce and perfectly runny egg. They probably just needed syrup. The bacon was really just a chunk of ham (I should have expected this being in Canada) but it was flavorful and added the much needed salty bite. The duck fat fries, tartare, pulled pork, desserts were good as well. Did not try the salmon but my friend cleaned his plate. The desserts were larger than expected. Today is the last day in Montreal, we tried La Fabrique for the famous pancake with boiled egg and pork belly, and homemade cranberry muffin with pulled pork and cheese. The muffin is very good, it is even than better than I expected. For the signature apple syrup pancake with pork belly, it is a very delicious. I cannot imagine how the fatty pork belly mix with pancake until I put it together in my mouth. It has definitely a WOW factor! We came with a large group with reservations for a weekend brunch. We got the pancakes with apple purée for the table and we personally tried the grilled pork shoulder with eggs, beans, squash and lentils, and the Cajun chicken toast. The pancake was fluffy and the apple was lovely but wish they used a more sharp cheese to add complexity and greater salty contrast to the apple and maple syrup. The grilled pork shoulder was excellent with a thick tender slab of pork, a sweet and nutty acorn squash gratin with a well cooked egg. The Cajun chicken toast wasn't exactly what I expected--its a chicken salad on toast. I found this to be the most mediocre. It lacked Cajun seasoning and was mixed with a spicy mayonnaise but I didn't get any spice at all. I'm personally not a big fan of wedge cut lettuce since it makes for a strange eating experience, especially when served on a small plate. The apple vinegarette was otherwise well balanced. Service was really friendly and knowledgeable. Our other friends really loved the beef tartare which I had a taste of and enjoyed. But everyone at the table had to ask for an extra piece of bread (and was charged for it). I would suggest that should be an indication to the kitchen that their portion is not balanced and should provide 2 pieces of bread at a minimum. read more

Wow! Might be one of the best restaurants I've been to. Everything was strong from start to finish from the food to service. We started with 1/2 dozen oysters and the beef tartare. Beef tartare was one of the best I've ever had. Very well balanced and flavourful and not overpowered by one specific flavour. In between starters and mains, we got toasted bread with some whipped butter spread with chives and shallots (?) and it was amazing. Mains we got the beef shoulder and the pulled pork burger. The beef shoulder was so tender it was like biting into a cloud. The pulled pork burger was so juicy and flavourful. As a carnivore, La Fabrique was a good place to bring your herbivore friends and everybody is happy. Food preparation was the strongest point with amazing flavors and good presentation at this price point. Wine list was good, if not relatively expensive. Service was friendly, but pace was slow. We were very politely informed we had an 1:30 minutes to eat it and beat it. However, we had just received our mains at 1:30, so you should just ignore it. Soup de jour was amazing and our best dish was the salmon tartare. This place would be ideal for all omnivores. Can't wait to go back and try the spreads. When we got there, they did not rush us in the slightest and even offered us desert once we finished entrees around 3:00. The service, from host to waitress, is excellent. I love mayo and our waitress suggested it added to our fries without even my suggesting of it. I think La Fabrique is more of a brunch hotspot, but I came here for dinner and had a good experience. The service is a bit slow, but the food was very good. Be careful when you get drinks, they are stingy with the liquor. Perhaps save the alcohol for a bar nearby. The fried squid appetizer was fantastic. It had fennel which I hate, but honestly, whatever they did...worked. The salmon tartar was excellent, and I recommend getting the larger portion because it comes with either salad or fries. Get the fries, they're great and there are A LOT. The braised beef shoulder entree was cooked perfectly and very tasty too. We had hoped to visit the acclaimed French restaurant L'Express, but had no reservation and decided to try to find a good alternative in the area and a few blocks inbound towards downtown we ran into La Fabrique. What great luck. This place is an authentic, unique gem. Everything was delicious. We a nice bottle of Spanish Rioja to go with chilled potato and pear soup, a very special salmon tartare, and two mains: grilled duck and roast beef shoulder. Both were exquisite. I guess I expected more from when I read the reviews. While the place is very cute and intimate, the loudness of the restaurant was still great. It's a great spot for a social gathering. Brunch had a chill vibe yet had the energy you want in a place to make you excited. I will say the front hostess was very welcoming and accommodating. Not to mention being from the South in the States, the coat check is a whole new world for me. It's a great idea and makes you feel like you're in for an experience. We like sitting at the bar when we go to restaurants. Most of the time, it's more entertaining to watch the bartenders make their drinks and partake in something new we haven't tried and looks intriguing, not to mention they're good about what and what not to try. We had the pancakes (which are not standard American flapjacks) and the brisket plate (which was more of a pot roast). I would say the portions are a lot smaller than you expect but they were heavy enough to fill your appetite so know that going in. I gotta say they work their tail off in the kitchen from the view we had and everyone's constantly moving, so with a place fairly quaint, the place fills up quickly and is always in constant motion while trying to keep a bright and airy feeling to the restaurant. The restaurant is beautiful, the ambience is lively, the service is top-notch, the prices are reasonable and the food is absolutely delicious! I visited for brunch with my partner and brother and we ordered a few dishes to share between us. Although everything that we got was fantastic, my two favourites were the French Toast with Praline cream and Orange Candy and the savoury French Toast with Brioche bread, Guinea Fowl and Egg Yolk. The first dish was perfectly balanced and not too sweet. The toast was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Since the dish is rather small, I'd suggest getting it as a starter, dessert or as one of a few sharing plates. The Savoury dish was also perfect. This portion was generous and filling. The meat was flavourful and tender. Oh and they take reservations, so no long lines and no waiting! They have it out in the open where you can actually watch what they are cooking and how. Second important thing is, they now have their menu is english and we went the day they started using those menu so we were even able to point out the mistakes. The server was very polite and friendly and explained us all about the dishes. DRINKS: We ordered coffee, orange juice and chai tea latte for start of the meal. The coffee is being served in small glasses that are used in India for tea serving and I was very pleased with that and above all the coffee was brewed perfectly. Chai tea on other hand was very light and I would have loved if they would have served 2 tea bags instead of just one. Juice was freshly squeezed and perfect. FOOD: I ordered FRENCH TOAST with English custard, apple and maple glaze. I had to wait for a while but OMG it was well worth the wait. It was very unique because I had never had a french toast baked in the cute little casserole. It felt like my taste buds thanking me. I have never had such a delicious french toast in my entire life. The top layer was all caramelized maple, then English custard and french toast and caramelized apple then french toast again and bottom most layer was English custard. I could eat that over and over and would still want it. My friend had the English biscuit with pulled pork topped with egg. The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The biscuit was very flaky and to top that off the egg was soo gooey in the center. He loved it. My husband ordered pork roast with salad and he was impressed with that. Holy crap on this brunch!! On our first trip to Montreal, our restaurant try list was mostly derailed since we didn't make any reservations. So on a Sunday morning, we were hoping for the best on various places. We stopped here, on a gorgeous day, and were able to score a table on the patio (for 3) after waiting 10-15 minutes. I ordered an egg dish with cheese, zucchini, corn, and some toast. It was light, fluffy, and delicious. I tried not to demolish it and share but it was very difficult. Kana K ordered a French toast with fruit which was equally light (not in calories, of course) and delicious. Brian T ordered a steak tartare which a) I usually steer clear of and b) I happily ate a few bites of. Just delicious and well flavored.
