French onion soup and cheesy escargots
Brittany A.

4.5 stars! My mom and I visited Buvette Nicole during our last night in Montreal. The ambiance was cool and it was packed when we arrived around 730pm on a Monday night, which was a great sign. Our waiter, Jordan, was very personable and recommended his favourite dishes. I chose the French onion soup and salmon entree, my mom went with the escargot to start and the pork chop for her main. The soup was so rich and delicious, my mom loved the snails. The salmon was cooked perfectly and my mom also enjoyed her pork chop. We also ordered a side of Brussels sprouts which were super tasty too. The portions were surprisingly large so we couldn't finish everything. They had asked us to switch tables partway through dining to accompany a larger party, which was fine for us and they offered us a complimentary dessert for the trouble. Since we were stuffed, we took the dessert to go. It was a deconstructed dulce de leche cheesecake and it was rich and so tasty. Would definitely return!

Love the vibe here. Outdoor dining is available as well if weather permits.

From the minute we walked in the door, this place was high on our list...and we hadn't even tasted the food yet. They know how to treat their guests. This was about 5 minute walk from our hotel (Hotel Gault.) We loved this place so much we ate here twice in our 6 nights in Montreal. It is intimate, yet quite busy. Reservations recommended, but just stop by if you don't have time to plan ahead. The food was fantastic! And so was the service.

Best onion soup on the planet according to my daughter
Michelle F.

This was hands down our favorite meal on our visit to Montreal. My daughter was looking for onion soup as she is a picky eater. It was on the menu so I made a reservation. The restaurant is so quaint and we were seated right on time. The manager Andrew and our server Tracy were attentive and friendly and truly made us feel like valued guests. My daughter said the onion soup was the best she ever had. That is the highest compliment coming from her. The food was delicious and so was the wine. You must get the deconstructed cheesecake! Do not miss this gem if you are in Old Montrèal.

Duck a l'orange

This place was cute inside and out with the decor and very clean. Our server was very friendly and efficient. I tried a local wine which was lovely and had Duck a L'orange for my main which was great. My dad had the pork chop which he loved and my mum had the gnocchi she said it came out cold and it wasn't her favorite flavors but I'd say it's worth a boat is in the area.

Buvette Nicole is in a very walkable section of the southern part of Old Montreal. It has exactly the atmosphere you would want in a buvette. The interior is bright and wide open, with plenty of windows should you want to watch what's going on outside. Entrees are traditional French style with nice flavorings. Our dinners were deliciously seasoned. There is a weekday happy hour for certain types of liquors. Service is friendly and professional.

This dinner experienced topped off an amazing weekend in Montreal. I was super fortunate getting a table Sunday night at 830 right before a rush. My drinks were a bottle sparkling pelligrino and a bottle Syrah. I enjoyed a glass with dinner and happily rook the rest of the wine back to the hotel. The server understood wine service and also suggested menu items based on my tastes. The escargot was to die for luscious creamy and plenty of toast to dip. The mussels were interesting. Some bits had a zipper sauce but it didnt over whelmed the seafood. Thank you for the wonderful dinner service!

Grilled halloumi with roasted sweet peppers
Atul P.

Charming little restaurant in old Montreal that we visited for lunch on a cold afternoon. We were warmly welcomed and seated immediately. The brunch menu was interesting offering several fish and meat choices. Alas, slim pickings for the vegetarian crowd. Nevertheless, the grilled halloumi topped with roasted peppers was delicious. The halloumi was slightly overdone but still tasted good. The smoked salmon toast was an immense sized dish that two of us shared. It was very good as we'll Service was excellent.

Lovely place for brunch! Food was delicious and hearty. The beef sandwich was savory. The French onion soup had a surprising kick. We were greeted so warmly and with a smile. Very French but English was welcomed.

ESCARGOTS GRATINÉS | SNAILS GRATIN ail confit, crème, fromage suisse, pain au levain - confit garlic, cream, swiss cheese, sourdough $18

At the time of posting 28 reviews This Is Worth it. Didn't take a photo of the burger but it was explosive with flavor The BRIE AU FOUR was creamy and excellent Comes with 2 little sour dough pieces 8/10 The ESCARGOTS GRATINÉS was cheesy, creamy , a lot of pieces I think around 10-14 snails 9.5/10 Now for the big dogs The duck and the pork chop The restaurant was not only nice enough to out the two together in a single plate for the family to share But it was amazing A peach miso sauce that was very tasty The pork chop was cooked to what we asked The kale chip was also extremely delicious 8.5/10 The main focus is that duck Lightly crispy skin A lot of duck meat Amazing sauce with it The duck was simply profound 10/10 Oh and I forgot about the tuna 9/10 simple and creamy Service was obviously 10/10 They were friendly and always helping us The ambiance was quite cozy, and despite being around dinner time it wasn't that packed and the food came quite swiftly Don't sleep on this one

What a wonderful evening at Buvette Nicole! Very delicious food and the staff were wonderful! An absolute 5 star experience.

Charcuterie & duck breast were decent. Gnocchi was good. Winter chicken supreme was really good: moist enough, tasty with a nice char & with a great creamy sauce.

We had a great time. Good ambiance, great food and a really nice server. Was a good experience.

Deconstructed cheesecake
Charlie M.

Incredible. We wandered in as starving tourists and left full tipsy and happy. Literally just a "we are starving and a bit lost but this is open, it looks nice and the menu looks good. " I am ashamed that I don't remember our waiter's name but he should win the annual waiter award. He had recommendations. Because of him we had a beautiful beef tartare. He recommended the duck breast but I was already on it. My mate had the gnocchi dish. We were going to get the Brussels sprouts as a side but they were out so we had the asparagus. My mate was ready to marry the asparagus (grilled with lardons, honey, and almonds). Then there was the deconstructed cheesecake. Award winning waiter talked us into that too. Amazing! Highly, highly recommend! They also have outdoor seating and bar seating. I may be back for lunch since we are here for a week.

We were greeted by a friendly maître d' and seated in a spacious dining room where several other tables were already full of diners. Our server was excellent and made recommendations when we asked. We ordered the Rabbit Confit in a Phyllo Dough in Red Wine Sauce; Mixed Green Salad with Balsamic Dressing, Pine Nuts and Shaved Parmesan; Bœuf à la bourguignonne; and a fruit tarte with ice cream. I started with the soup du jour, a potato leek soup with a perfectly smooth texture and a wonderfully delicate flavor. The duck foie gras was the absolute favorite of the evening for both of us! My husband's rack of lamb was delicious, although the portion was disappointingly smaller than expected. My lobster salad, unfortunately, came with a vinaigrette dressing that was far too sour--and that's coming from someone who loves vinegar! What ultimately elevated this dining experience to four stars was the Grand Marnier soufflé we enjoyed for dessert. It was the perfect finale to our evening and left us with a wonderful last impression!

Our waitresses recommendations were fire. We enjoyed: Complementary bread: it was soft on inside and appropriately crunchy but not overly so on the outside. Plus two huge pieces cut into 4 pieces individually. Beef tartare: at 20 cad it was a little pricy for how much you got but the taste was great and I'm a fan of comte cheese. Plus it didn't have capers which imo overwhelms tartares. Duck with carrot: as a Chinese person I've had my share of duck but this might be the best duck I've ever had in my life. The texture and cook on it was awesome! First it came with three pieces of breast. It was the perfect cook, not over like most of the places I've had duck. Then the leg had the perfect crispy fatty skin to meat ratio. Yum yum this is a can't miss dish here Burger: husband got this. I took a bite. It had a nice smoke to it and was perfectly medium rare. BEST "BYOB" FRENCH BISTRO DURING RECENT TRIP…read more This is the best dining experience in our recent Montreal trip. I'm glad we made reservation since the place was quite packed when we arrived. To be honest, our first impression wasn't too great. We were seated in their main indoor dining area which was a bit too warm. We asked if we can be moved to their fully covered / heated patio area, but unfortunately the restaurant was full. Fast forward 15 minutes, we have placed our order and were enjoying our bottle of wine and a basket of bread. Our server came over and offered to move us to the patio area since a table had opened up. We were pleasantly surprised because (1) we didn't ask again and (2) most restaurants wouldn't change tables once customers started eating/drinking. The restaurant setting is unpretentious with a casual and cozy vibes. The staff are so friendly that we feel like having a family dinner! They offer a pre-fixe menu in which we thoroughly enjoyed! For appetizers, the escargot dish gave us a pleasant surprise. They wrapped the escargots and blue cheese sauce in a thin crispy crust! It's hard to describe, but it's sort of like having an escargot "crepe"! The few main courses we chose were excellent, and the rack of lamb was probably our favorite - tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. As for dessert, their creme brulee was one of the best I've had - creamy custard topped with a perfect, crisp caramel top. I'd highly recommend this place, and will certainly visit again when I'm in town next time!

Reservations are highly recommended but I walked in solo and got one of the few seats left at the bar. The server was incredible, friendly and very attentive to everyone at the bar. While all of the food coming out looked amazing, I give 3 stars for the lack of presentation/selection of the cheese platter (which I forgot to take a picture of). The menu said selection of 4 cheeses. What I got was 4 pieces of only two types of cheese cut by a four year old. I was expecting four different cheeses, not two pieces of two types. It definitely didn't look like everyone else's plates coming out. For how beautiful all of the other plates came out, $30 for this was a definite rip off. I'm glad I opted for a bit of a cheaper glass of wine because anything more expensive would have really ruined the experience. Skip the cheese platter and get yourself a different appetizer if you don't want to be disappointed.
