Based on a side conversation with Phil S, I decided to stop by and check out Bistro 6050. The location is easy enough to get to on Irving Park and in a good location as it is not too close to the stop light at Austin, which gets very crowded and makes crossing the street or getting out of your car a somewhat dangerous ordeal. If you have ever parked there, you will know what I mean. I was able to cross the street and live to tell the tale. The place itself is very cute once you get inside. There are plenty of tables if you chose to dine in, but quite frankly this is food I would want to take home and enjoy in the comfort of my home with some bubbles. I loved that there were two nice size stuffed chairs where I could sit and wait for my order. Because I was hungry and Phil's review said that he wished the empanadas were bigger, I order three of each of the following: barbacoa, creamy chicken, spinach ricotta, TSAP (traditional south asian potato), ham/cheese and the pulled porky. In addition I ordered the barbacoa, creamy chicken and asian chicken adobo. Full disclosure, since I was doing take out, I figured that I would do the full monty and get t all. No way me and The Doctor were going to eat all of this, but figured I would have lunch and dinner for the next few days. The young lady who assisted me seemed surprise at the amount I was ordering and wanted to know if I was having a party...HAHAHAHA! Very cute. She was very helpful in taking my order and provided me with a free sweet tea made from Earl Grey. I have never done EG cold, but gotta say I loved it. The other nice thing was that they were playing this incredible jazz music; that coupled with the comfy chair and iced tea made the time go by fast. I had parked on the meter and had added 30 mins from my phone app, which was perfect. She actually checked to see if I was on a meter to make sure I didn't run out of time while they prepared my food. I love that the empanadas are baked, not fried and that they had these little identifiers on them (flower, triangle,star, square, etc.) to help tell which was which. The top of the containers had hand written descriptions and drawing of the little identifiers to allow you to decipher what was in each container. They also came with a pepper jelly dipping sauce. Three empanadas are $8.95; while they seemed small, I got full on what I had. The pastry was nice and light and baking added a cleaner flavor than what you would get from being fried in oil. The crepes were also very nice, light with a slightly sweet taste to them. The pepper jelly was not what I expected...it was sweet. The Doctor liked it but I didn't use any as it was too sweet for me (just my personal taste, nothing against the jelly). I had to travel another 28 mins to get home due to traffic, but I am happy to report that the food was still warm. The Doctor and I tried everything but the spinach/TSAP and the Creamy Chicken crepes. Saving those for tomorrow. I would say the barbacoa was nice, tender and a different flavor since it wasn't prepared like I am used to from Mexican restaurants, but delicious none the less. Pulled Porky and Creamy Chicken were good as well, very nice blending of subtle flavors without overpowering the meat and pastry. The crepes were great and well prepared (speaking as someone who makes crepes). I did not require a knife to eat the crepes, which goes towards how tender the crepe and meat were. I think next time I will try one of the dessert crepes. I don't usually do dessert but they have a chocolate and coconut one, two of my favorite flavors (I still dream about that chocolate coconut cake from the now closed Booth One). Gotta say this was a pleasant surprise for me and it was on the way home. I don't go this way home all the time, but this place could get me to alter my route every now and then.

The beauty of mom and pop restaurants are not only the outstanding customer service that it provides, but also, the fresh ingredients that the restaurant are almost and usually guarantees to deliver. As I discovered the restaurant by yelp searching on a late night for some bad craving for sweets, Bostro 6050 was the first pop out. The outside of the shop may not look like much, but if you do drive slowly you would definitely spot it easily . I could go on to talk about the interior of the restaurant but I am sure that not what we are here for . So let's just dive right in : Service: absolutely outstanding since both owner(the wife and the husband) make sure you are being take good care of. Parking : street parking are easier to be found Food: Gelato is a must in the menu specially the pistachio flavor, you might noticed the color is not as "vibrant" as the super market brand(but that's because they use the real deal instead of food coloring ). Also, their per-scoop size aren't the same as store brands, but trust me, you are tasting the concentrated version of gelato(literally). Which I also recommend the Rose flavor just cause no where else had it (that's if you want to be more advantageous). Their empanadas are also very outstanding! I am not much of a pork person but the Barbacoa are delicious. If you are looking for something different, fresh and local, give them a try! As both of the restaurant owners will tell you everything about their proudly productions . P.S: and no, they did not pay me for speaking so highly of them, I am just genuinely promoting business owners that are truly passion with their business.

My wife's former co worker told me about Bistro 6050 awhile ago so I bookmarked it. Well tonight I decided to stop by and check it out 5 Stars on 203 reviews impressive. What's the scoop? 8:15pm and the place is packed. They seem to be a little short staffed cause the poor girl in the front seems to be totally overwhelmed, scrambling & frazzled to keep up w/the demand for drinks, ice cream, crepes & coffees. The empanadas are prepared & cooked in the back. Each order placed is served piping hot & fresh. Bistro 6059 is kind of a cool place sort of a 50's Style diner w/old time music playing. * Creamy Chicken - Peruvian Style cooking W/dairies, imported yellow hot peppers & spicy. Absolutely remarkable (my Favorite one) * Barbacoa - slow cooked beef for 6hrs mixed w/herbs & spices w/a little kick. Very good soft seasoned beef that melts in your mouth * Spinach Ricotta - spinach, ricotta, mozzarella & Parmesan cheeses (least favorite) The empanadas were excellent and probably the best commercially made empanadas I ever had. I will definitely be back again very soon. The only thing is I wish they were a little bigger.

First visit here and this place is a GEM!!! Owner and gentlemen working window are so sweet and nice! We requested 2 empanadas they were out of and the owner made them fresh for us. By the way...the spinach ricotta is delicious...check out the cheery note she even put on the box! Partner had an edible pina colada tea-fresh and light. I had an iced Earl grey tea...really good! We will definitely be back! Good sized menu, fair prices and outstanding people here!

The owners of this place is just as sweet as their ice cream and crepes that we just devoured! We got the biscoff crepe, Nutella and banana crepe, and scoops of ube, cookies and cream, Ferrero Rocher ice creams in separate containers. Everything was so delicious. Understandable that it's curb pick up only right now, due to the pandemic, but that did not stop us from hanging around! Thank you, Chris!

I just came here today for pick up. ordered 3 empanadas and 3 drinks. oh my god! so good! they have a symbol for each flavor in the empanadas and they stamp it onto the top of the empanadas. VERY UNIQUE. I ordered the ube freak shake, cookies and creams, and the matcha iced tea. i loved the flavor of ALL of them! you seriously won't be disappointed. I personally really loved the iced matcha, it was my first time trying it and it's really distinct flavor. I think it has yerba maté in it (from Argentina!) Tastes just like it

Bistro 6050 is such a cute little spot for a quick sweet or salty treat! The menu is SO extensive ranging from empanadas to burgers to crepes and ice cream. I really like that there are a few vegetarian empanadas available. I didn't try any this time but I'm looking forward to trying a couple next visit! To crave my sweet tooth, I ordered the banana Nutella crepes. The French velvet crepes were spot on! I especially liked how the crepes were not paper thin. They held their shape/structure which made them enjoyable to eat. The decadent Nutella filling added quite a punch. Banana flavor was not overpowering. I recommend these for people with a chocolate craving. I really enjoy how each item has a handwritten message. "Hello beautiful" was written on my crepe box and "stay cute" on the side of my friends milkshake. It is such a unique gesture that I haven't seen anywhere else. Major brownie points.

I can honestly say that I can count my stellar food experiences in the past 6 months on one hand. But 6050 tonight was 5 stars across the board. Boom boom boom! Social distancing protocol: 5 stars. Order online for no contact pickup at the window, or order through an intercom behind a window. Customer service: 5 stars!! One of the owners (I'm assuming) was taking orders behind the window and was so sweet. I mentioned that we had recently moved into the neighborhood and they took the time to give me a Portage Park pamphlet and wrote sweet notes on the box. They also threw in an extra dipping sauce. Warm fuzzies. Warm fuzzies all around! Empanadas: 5 stars. Lots of unique flavors to choose from. We got the porky, chaat, and chorizo. Ugh. Warm. Flakey. Crisp, but also soft and chewy. The crust is perfectly thin to let the fillings shine through. The fillings themselves are well seasoned and balanced. Dipping sauce was a sweet and spicy sauce that was a great compliment to the empanadas! Ice cream: I'll admit it. I've been a Jeni's fan girl, but this ice cream is something worth writing home about. We got the pistachio and chocolate ice cream. I love a pistachio that doesn't pretend to be almond or cherry - it's just pure roasted nuttiness. And the chocolate. Heavenly, rich, creamy chocolate! So good. Our hearts and bellies are happy. We will be back!

We ordered delivery from here tonight on Grubhub and were blown away by the quality! We tried the crepes, empanadas, shakes, coffee & even horchata! Every single item was purely delicious and had a unique flavor that impressed my whole family! The banana & Nutella crepes were light, fluffy & packed with Nutella goodness. The lime crepe literally blew my mind. It's basically key lime pie in a crepe. It was delicate, light, and had the perfect tart lime flavor. Spinach & ricotta empanadas were flaky and they came with the most amazing pepper relish dipping sauce that made them even tastier. We are so excited to try different flavors the next time! The Oreo milkshake was to die for. I don't even know how they get it to taste so good. It had such a deep & rich flavor. But it wasn't overly thick like other milkshakes. It had the perfect consistency and Oreo blended throughout. My sister tried their "hot horchata" which was basically like hot chocolate except horchata flavored! Omg! How unique and so tasty. She said it was her favorite thing. So happy we tried this place! You can really tell each and every item is prepared with care and consideration. It's hard to find home cooking this good nowadays. So glad we have this neighborhood gem!!

A friend of mine who lives in the area recommended this place so I stopped by on a hot day and wanted a fruity tea drink. Because, it's my first time I wanted to order several things so Chris recommended several items. During our short conversation he offered me free samples and truly awesome recommendations. The Nutella milkshake was a delight and the guava tea was very refreshing . Then ice cream samples were amazing and the nuts was very different and a very healthy snack. I really liked that Chris took his time to explain everything to me and recommend specific time. I haven't tried everything but I will definitely be back to try everything on the menu!

Seems like there's enough 5 stars so I'll keep this as a list for my own future orders. Barbacoa - hearty and tastes a little like sloppy joe with a kick Ham and Cheese - tastes like ham and cheese Cheesy Pepperjelly - tastes like the sauce! Shared a creamy chicken empanada and an Asian potato empanada, as well as sweet strawberry nutella crepes.... had a great time in this intimate restaurant. Will return!!! While we were waiting for our order, a friendly waitress gave us samples of some shakes they offer.. cookies and cream (which tasted a bit coffee-ish to me, and i absolutely loved it!!!) and a Nutella shake that was to die for!!! Happy side note: they are byob so if you want to come nosh on some appetizer types of food and enjoy a glass of wine or beer, this is place to be!!!!!

I'm so glad we finally decided to stop in for dinner, Bistro 6050 has some really great food! We tried a spinach and ricotta crepe for starters and then sampled a few of the baked empanadas - ham & cheese, barbacoa and really chicken. The crepe was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. I allowed my boyfriend 2-3 bites and finished the rest myself. It was hands down the highlight of the meal. The empanadas were good, but not great - the main reason is that they were dry. I may like them better if they had a little less dough or maybe more filling, or something to make them a little less dry. I had to put the pepper jelly on all of them, which was great, but it was out of necessity rather than preference. I'd definitely try them again though, and maybe I'm just too picky about dry food. My boyfriend seemed to enjoy them. I also had a ginger iced tea and it was excellent - I got some loose leaf tea to go! The owner & his wife were also incredibly nice and inviting. I've been dreaming about that crepe, I'll be back soon for that alone!! read more

Banana Nutella crepes for the win!! If you live in the Belmont Cragin/portage park area your options are pretty limited when it comes to sweets. Thank you bistro 6050 for giving the neighborhood some charm and a place to get a little snack during the day or night. Now my family uses bistro 6050 as a motivation to get a quick workout/walk in and get a snack along the way. The owners are so sweet! So attentive and passionate about their business. I've tried their empanadas, apple cinnamon crepes, and banana Nutella crepes. My absolute go to are the banana Nutella crepes as you can tell by my excitement above. read more

So far I'm loving it! Everything is fresh and made to order. I love how the coffee and teas each have a detailed description. It's kid friendly but doesn't over due it with toys and clutter. They have chalkboards on the walls so kids and adults can draw. I'm a chocoholic so the chocolate mousse is right up my alley and it is divine. I love how there is a container of almonds on top so you can sprinkle as many as you like. The owner is so sweet and she is very keen on making sure her customers have a great food experience. This is a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

First time here....in the area just had dinner. Decide to find a desert place nearby and I saw this place where there is ube ice cream. Order a shake and two different flavor of ice cream. They made the ice cream themselves and the place is very cozy. There are chairs and sofa chair. The selection of sweet, food, and drink are very wide spread out. Would recommend people to come if you in the area. Street parking. read more

Super cute cafe down the street from the old Patio Theater. Menu is eclectic with tasty crepe and empanada options. I loved the spinach ricotta empanada and family loved the ham and cheese empanada. My kids had mango bubble tea and loved it. The most delicious drink was the horchata milkshake! A must try! Overall, the dining experience was very much like dining at a European cafe. Bistro 6050 is truly a hidden gem. I found this place by accident thru a friend and was extremely glad I did. I had the pleasure of trying the ice creams, chocolate and the cinnamon biscoff. It was hands down the best ice cream I have ever tasted. It is a must try along with their empanadas. If I can give this Bistro more than 5 stars, I would. My new favorite!!!! read more

I love this place because the woman behind the counter is so friendly, especially when you become a regular. I was grateful for when the owner and his wife came to a fundraiser held by my non profit organization and donated ice cream and they even served our attendees theirselves. The homemade ice cream was delicious! Their ice cream is home made which awesome, I tried the caramel toffee. It was one of the best ice creams I've had. I also tried the empanadas and love that there are many choices to choose from, creamy chicken was my favorite, unfortunately i only tried 3 of the flavors and wish I could have gotten more. I would definitely recommend the ice cream and empanadas! This is a hidden gem in Portage Park, Chris was phenomenal and very welcoming! I am very pleased with his service. He is a very humble gentleman! read more

Very positive energy here. No doubt why they got 5 stars on Yelp. I strongly recommend visiting this dessert shop. I went there with my sister. Her Bischoff & Walnuts crepe was amazing. The Nutella crepe I got was very good. We both love the fruit tea and ended up buying two bags home. I'll definitely come back when I'm in town. read more

I've been there a few times now. I haven't tried a lot of the food but the empanadas I had were delicious. I have also tried the ice creams and bubble teas and both taste great! They have some original ice cream flavors. It's open fairly late so that's a big plus for me since I normally get off work late evening and not a lot of places are open at this time. I love the whole vibe of the place, they have a lot of cool little art things. I had the chance to meet the owners, the first time I went there and they are both extremely friendly and you can tell they're passionate about what they do. For the quality of the food and the service the prices are great. I will definitely be back! read more

I like to support small local coffee shops or businesses! This place is more then coffee shop my favorites are you can have tea, ice cream(homemade), empanda(homemade), all kinds of goodies! Also the owners Chris and Roselle are just so welcoming!! They get to know all of the customers to come in !! Its also nice for a late snack because of the hours !!! read more

Bistro 6050 has become a weekend necessity for my household. They have an impressive variety between sweet and savory that's really unmatched anywhere on the Northwest side. I like to stock up on the empanadas throughout the week, storing in the fridge then a quick zap in the airfryer for my afternoon pick me ups. The very first time a few years ago when I visited Bistro 6050 I was excited to have discovered the best crepe in the area -- flavor, texture and consistency -- and it still the best crepe I've had. Not sure how they do it. For first timers, grab some coffee or a frappe, maybe even a red bean bubble tea, a sweet crepe and a few empanadas to hold you over for the week! Also, run by the nicest people. Seriously no other restaurant like this in for miles. read more

We live in the neighborhood and discovered icecream this past summer from 6050 Bistro. Wow, we made a trip at least once a week and took home a variety of flavors each time. Today I decided to order some empanadas to sample. My only mistake...ordering only three! They were amazing, the crust outstanding. Flaky, soft and the right amount of crusty around the crimped edges. I tried the chicken, porky and the chaat masala. All were awesome, my favorite the chaat masala. I will be back to sample the entire empanada menu! read more

If this app had more stars to give, I would definitely give this restaurant a 10000 the owner is very nice and the food is to die for! It is absolutely delicious and everything is made from scratch. not a review, but have a question. I have a doctor appointment in the area at 6:00 and my wife will be waiting for me. She needs to be on a call, but wants to do it inside a coffee shop. Very friendly service and staff. We got a milkshake and ice cream. The Biscoff ice cream was delicious - definitely recommend. The decor is super cute and the whole vibe was great for an ice cream shop. We had 7 different empanadas, and we love them all!! Cant wait to go back. 5 star place. Small but cute. Very welcoming staff. Service is friendly. Wonderful place. Empanada fillings are so different and yet delicious, wonderful flavor. We had apple pie crepes and nutella coconut crepes, amazingggg! We also had pistachio and strawberry ice cream, the best pistachio ice cream!!! I have never had that kind of pistachio ice cream. So creamy and full flavor of pistachios. Strawberry was also good, but pistachios made my day, and i am not into an ice cream. So its that good! read more

I had extra time before going back to school and my options were going to tj maxx to "look around" (never a good idea) or to be a good student and do some studying. So yes! I decided to be a good student so I found this place on yelp and it seemed like a good place with a calm atmosphere. I loved it from the moment I opened the door, the atmosphere, the music, the coziness. I wanted a bubble tea and I asked if they had non-dairy milk. The lady behind the counter was so friendly and sweet. She showed me the creamer they use to make the teas. It wasn't non-dairy but she happily offered to use coconut milk instead. I went for the Earl gray flavor and it came out really good! I really appreciate the flexibility and excellent service. They have several food items as well, sadly none of them are vegan but I definitely be back to try their other beverages. read more

What is happening? So I get frustrated and jump into this and say, "Ya but we've been waiting over 30 minutes for his main. We've all finished so now you're asking my friend to eat alone." She responds, "everything is served hot so what is the problem??" !! I get annoyed because up until this moment, we've been pretty nice. But this waitress not acknowledging any issue or trying to make it better and talking back to us like this is weird. So I just say, "Bring a manager over." Well...it didn't matter. This lady learned her attitude from somewhere and it was probably from the manager. The manager immediately is on the offense like, "you ordered a soup and we wanted you to have the soup hot. And we want your next meal to be hot. We make everything fresh and we clean our dishes in between." The heck? All we want is for my friend to be able to eat his main. So I say, now rudely, "just bring the food. We have waited 30 minutes now. Everyone is done with their meal. If you haven't made it, cancel the order and we'll go somewhere else." She responds, "we usually serve the starter first. If you didn't like that, then don't order a starter." SERIOUSLY!? What is happening!? I think about telling her that USUALLY even if only 1 person has ordered a starter, that gets served first before EVERYONE gets their mains TOGETHER. Instead I say, "listen, cancel the order or give us the food but we aren't waiting any longer." And she goes, "we can't cancel it. The kitchen has been working on it." So I say "this better be home baked bread because they've been working on it for 45 minutes by now." IT STILL takes another 5 minutes to get this meal. It is cold. It is an average Croque Monsieur. And they probably all spit in it. At the very end, the waitress comes over and says, "I see what you mean and there were coursing issues but we take pride in our food and we weren't going to degrade that so we could serve you faster." This place literally lives up to a Parisian stereotype, I guess.

Bistro 6050 is a hidden gem in the Portage Park neighborhood. Their ice cream is the best I've had in the city, hands down. My personal favorite is the Biscoff - it has just the right amount of cinnamon and crunch. If you're feeling adventurous, I also recommend the Charcoal Nut - it's a very unique taste, but it's good. And if you're feeling mysterious, go for Bed of Roses. If you're in the right mood, you can't beat it. They also have fantastic baked empanadas with little stars and crescents so you can tell them apart! Their contact-free pickup is great, but I really miss chatting with the owner before COVID-19. Discovered this incredible place by accident with a huge craving for European crepes and I was delighted to find the best crepes in Chicago, totally by chance. Wonderful service, great selection of teas, coffee and homemade ice cream, this place also has the best empanadas (perfect crust). The folks who run the place are very friendly. I randomly stopped at Bistro 6050 one night with some friends and I'm very glad I did so, definitely one of the most memorable stores I've ever been to. I had never seen this place and let me tell you it was amazing! The owner was so nice and helpful and the Nutella shake was delicious , also ordered a toffee almond crepe and tried some of my friends biscoff ice cream !!! Everything so tasty. The guy is from Belgium. This place is amazing. My kids love going as an outing- they have opened a COVID friendly window. Look for the red car- great service & when it reopens great atmosphere! It's a great walk on Irving Park by many beautiful shops. Open late s as Leo great after work. read more

The food is great and there is a lot to chose from. The spinach ricotta empanada is a must try if you go there. Staff was really friendly and attentive, but there were only two people working so everything took a little while. We will definitely come back though. read more
