    Soupe a l'oignon gratine

We have always wanted to visit La Creperie due to its popular reputation being the oldest creperie in the U.S. We decided to go on an empty stomach on Saturday at around 12:30PM. Despite being only 30 minutes after opening, it was very busy, with nearly every table occupied. Because of this, the two servers on the floor did seem to be a bit overwhelmed at times, and thus, service was a bit delayed. We were able to be seated promptly after arriving and got our orders in quickly, but our waters didn't arrive until our food came in (~20 min since we sat at the table). Service: 4/10. The ambiance was very cool, kind of reminded me of a dive bar with all the posters on the wall and the old feeling of the building. Ambiance: 8/10. Food: Soupe a l'oignon gratinée (French onion soup): Super delicious and heavy on the umami carried by the onion flavor. The Swiss cheese melted on top of the soup looked like it was flambed, providing a crunchy crust on the soup, but also had retained its cheese pull capabilities. The sharp flavor of the Swiss perfectly complemented the savory broth. I also love how there was a piece of bread in the soup that soaked up all of the broth; it acted as a sponge of flavor. 10/10. Banana Sara Crepe: I really enjoyed this one. It was sweet but not overwhelmingly so, leaning more heavily on the caramel flavor and the subtle sweetness of the bananas. The vanilla bean ice cream was phenomenal; I don't know how to describe it other than it reminded me of when I was a kid running around in a scorching hot summer and feeling revived by the coolness, creaminess, and sweetness of a vanilla ice cream. The vanilla ice cream tasted natural and leaned more towards its creaminess to complement the subtle sweetness of the caramelized bananas. 8.5/10 Overall, I would come back here if it was a bit less busy for the food. Overall: 7.6/10.

Such nostalgia to go to lunch here for Valentine's Day brunch. My husband and I have been coming here to celebrate Valentine's since the late 80's!! So happy I can bring my whole family to enjoy French cuisine during this sweet holiday! I'm not positive but during dinner they have live music but probably call ahead of time to inquire. The limited menu still has all the Parisian classics like escargot and niscoise salad and the croque mousier and madame sandwiches. What our party was interested in were the entree crepes. We ordered the Beef bourguignon, curry chicken & the creamed scallop and shrimp crepes!! They were all delicious and so well made with crispy crepes on the outside and savory fillings on the inside. I started my meal with a London fog which was such a delightful hot tea that I can't get enough of. They have many different drink options to choose from. I just wanted tea! We ended the meal with a Nutella & banana crepe and the classic banana Sara crepe which is basically bananas foster inside a crepe!! Again both stellar dessert offerings that you can't go wrong when you order. If you have ever gone to France and stopped in a Parisian cafe for a bite to eat or a cappuccino this place will transport you in time to that quaint magical place with the bar seating and then a homey diminutive fireplace withthe tattered travel posters plastered all over the walls. Luved the round bistro tables with fresh flowers on the table really added to that cozy French vibe!!! A real gem in Lincoln park/Chicago area that should be considered a foodie treasure!!!

A divine patio, perfect for a crisp glass of wine. I need to go back for a crepe. The waiter was lovely as well.

Service and the back deck were the highlights here and the atmosphere has all sorts of Paris decor. You can be seated indoors or outside on a nice patio with a tree and string lights. I appreciate the staff accommodating our special request since there was no kids menu. Why 2 stars? We left unsatisfied and one person left hungry because the food lacked quality. All three French onion soups were burnt and the chicken mushroom crepe tasted okay. The mushrooms seemed canned. Kudos to our server who took off one soup before we even asked. Since the server mentioned the soups were extra crispy, I don't know if it was an off day but we won't be back.

Yay, I finally went here! I've been wanting to go to this crêpe restaurant ever since I moved to my neighborhood at three years ago. It is the oldest crêperie in the US and walking in here feels like stepping back in time. Service is kind yet slow, but that's the Parisian way. We split three crêpes, including the goat cheese and chicken, one, the strawberry and cream, and then the ham and Swiss. All were good, but the chicken one was the best. This place is super affordable and I just love the atmosphere so I definitely wanna come back. Perfect date, place or solo dining. They also have dinner which I would love to check out. The food wasn't super hot, but it was a freezing day out and the ventilation isn't great lol. The perfect place to go, though if you want to feel like you are in Europe

I asked for extra butter for the plain crepes and they gave me this cream container filled with butter. What more can you ask for in life? We also had the crepe suzette - excellent. The crepe anglaise strawberry was less than fresh and the custard was over cooked - still good but not amazing. So why 5 stars? Well we sat at the patio this lovely evening, that alone is a perfect summers eve. And of course I'm a Francophile!

Such a cozy, charming, authentic French creperie! DELICIOUS sweet and savory crepes! I love savory crepes and couldn't help but get two. The Fruits de mer is a French classic and was amazing, especially if you like seafood flavors! The side of rice was perfect for cutting the rich flavor, too. Also got La Végétarienne which had toppings/flavors that were honestly reminiscent of more enhanced pizza but on a crepe lol The service was great--they were very attentive. Food came out fast. Definitely want to come back to try the epinards crème, poulet aux champignons and poulet au curry! & 10/10 owner!! We unexpectedly got to meet him and what a sweet man!! We ended up with La Classique (nutella wotj sauteed bananas) for dessert. I thought I was full from the savory crepes but finished my sweet one as well! Yum!! Congrats to 52 years of La Crêperie goodness!!

My son and I came on quiet Tuesday night. There were only few tables being occupied, as expected for a midweek dinner. The place is small and cozy inside with a lot of French decor. Their service was great. Very friendly staff and our food came out quick. We ended up sharing a their Croque Madame and their La Classique crepe. The Croque Madame was really delicious. It came with toasted ham, Swiss cheese and topped with a perfectly fried egg and served with fries. The Classique Crepe was just as delicious. I've had plenty of crepes before but these were different. Some parts of the crepe were crispy which was definitely something new. You can never go wrong with Nutella and bananas. Overall we kept it simple and quick and they delivered. I was surprised on how full I got just by sharing and wouldn't hesitate returning here to try out some of their other offerings.

Delicious!! Highly recommend going closer to when they open on the weekends - it filled up fast. Will be going back for sure.

One of the tastiest treats I've ever had! I wasn't expecting to be wowed! My bf kept trying to bring me, as he often raved about it; I can see why. The place is quirky and the crepes were Devine. Their cocktails were also quite tasty. It is definitely worth trying!

The staff was super attentive and kind, checking on us frequently. My friend and I stopped by for happy hour, and this should absolutely make it onto the list of the best in town. They have delicious wine, cocktails, and bites for nearly half of the regular price. I opted for the happy hour prosecco to drink, which was light-bodied and not too sweet. We split the meatballs and dates for bites and both were outstanding. I was super impressed with how tender the meatballs were, and they did not skimp on the flavorful marinara and cheese! The dates, which were topped with a white wine cheese sauce, were mouth-wateringly delicious and a must order. There was also complimentary focaccia with olive oil, which was greatly appreciated. With sea salt on top and a crispy exterior, I could easily have eaten a whole loaf. The only note I have is that the portions are small, so if you don't come during happy hour the prices are a bit steep for what you get. John's is Michelin recommended so I said- sign me up. All I knew going in was the accolade and that the chef preferred to do hyper local- which im all about. The vibes are perfect IMO. Cozy, clean, organic shapes with that bar (see the featured photos). It also has a relaxed enough vibe that despite the prestige it is truly a more formal/casual vibe- being there on a sunday I saw a handful of small groups come in no res just looking for wine. The food itself was pretty good. I thought the pork collar was cooked well and they did what I was hoping a hyper local produce focused place would which is not over cook the vegetables and let them shine. One note: assume way more complexity than the menu displays. The pork itself for example is listed as just the pork veggies and with its sauce so my expectations were hesitant - but what made the dish great was the tang that comes from the seasoning/marinade. What really stood out to me though was the staff- it could be that I was there in a dead hour but everyone put me at ease as a single server at a table (v bar) and my server even gave me a taste of their amazing bandaged cheddar - which as a huge foodie really made my experience great. Because theres no way im easily grabbing that cheese. SO as well to their wine director Felix especially. He and I connected over the ceramics they feature (Monsoon Pottery- check her out) and when I spilled some sauce on my white shirt he was quick to get me some soda water and I heard him asking around for some shout. So- formal/casual place but I felt treasured. Which tbh is really what makes good restaurants different to me when youre hitting this price point in chicago. Plenty of POS fine trendy places down town.

I'd never been to Willow Room and liked that they had a four course dinner menu, with items I liked. I was able to make a reservation for a Saturday night at 8:15pm. PARKING Parking on Halsted on a Saturday night can be a nightmare, and it did take a minute to find street parking. North of the 1800 block is busier because there are several restaurants within a two block radius. Side streets are permit parking after 6pm. Meters on Halsted are $2.50/hr. ATMOSPHERE Willow Room was pretty packed. We had a reservation for 8:15pm and my party of two was seated right away. The restaurant features a full bar, dim lighting and is nice and roomy. They have banquette seating around the perimeter, in addition to tables in the middle. SERVICE Our server, who was very nice and accommodating during our dining experience, came by and gave us our menu's. I had already decided on the RW menu and after review, my friend was interested in the Beef Wellington (not on RW menu). Our server informed us that normally the whole table had to order off of the RW menu if one person does, but said she would check with the kitchen since this was the last day of RW. Luckily, we were able to proceed with ordering from different menu's. FOOD I ordered a raspberry Cosmopolitan. I'm a Riesling/Moscato girlie, but I tasted the Riesling and didn't like it. RW dinner was priced at $60. I ordered: First Course: Caesar Salad (Typical salad, was good) Second Course: Mussels (Tasted fine, came with a baguette) Third Course: Short Rib (Could've been slightly more tender and better seasoned. I've definitely had better. Wouldn't order again.) Fourth Course: Orange Ricotta Donuts (Donuts were very good. Three were served, a few more would have been more filling.) My friend ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and: Truffle Fries (Fries were very tasty. I would order again if I went back.) Beef Wellington (The breading was buttery and very good. The beef could've been more seasoned. I wouldn't order.) Key Lime Pie (Was not sweet and had no taste. When our server came back and saw it was uneaten, she offered to take it off the bill. It should be removed from the menu altogether.) The busboys and server were very attentive. Our water glasses were always filled. OVERALL The atmosphere was nice, our server was great. Of all the food we ordered, I would order the truffle fries and Cosmopolitan again. I did leave full and did take my leftover Short Rib to go. Main dishes needed more seasoning. I would dine here again and try a different menu (brunch/lunch), or Happy Hour if they offer it.
