Great local coffee shop offering Mexican flavors like cafe de olla and horchata latte, and homemade baked empanadas using buttermilk dough for the breading. Prices were very fair and the barista was very funny, welcoming and friendly. I came in with my brother during a rainy day so things were slow. The seating was actually put away because of that, but we didn't mind because we planned on grabbing things to go. Steak empanada was fantastic and the baked buttermilk dough was a great complement vs the typical frying. Each specialty coffee or latte comes with 2 espresso shots but they can be customized to 1 or even add more. I had the cafe de olla which wasn't very sweet so it was perfect as I don't like sugary or overly creamy coffee. We stopped by Believe Cafe after having lunch in the area, and we decided to get some caffeine fix, seeing that they were just a couple of blocks away. We ordered: +the Pistachio Drip +the Honey Goat Milk Latte We also saw that they had housemade empanadas - we went for: +the Chicken Mole +and, the Steak, Mozzarella, and Bell Peppers Both the coffee drinks were served hot, which we appreciated, but, unfortunately, they were both weak and hardly had any of the flavors it was named as. The empanadas, which we were excited for, were a total letdown - the fillings just had an off-putting flavor to them, and one of the crusts were overbaked/burnt (while also be a bit too thick). The staff here are super friendly and welcoming, and this is more of a to-go type of a place. It seems like a local favorite, but we had a disappointing experience - maybe it was an off day, but most likely will not return. This is a small owned coffee shop that serves the best coffee and empanadas. The service is amazing the cashier was inviting, funny , knowledgeable and helpful which leads me to believe he's also the owner!I was recommended the horchata latte and hands down the best coffee I had all weekend in Chicago. This coffee has made from scratch Horchata with real rice and cinnamon plus two shots of espresso seriously delicious! For food I got A breakfast classic of Chorizo, egg and Mozzarella cheese. So many fun empanadas! The owner is super friendly and will explain everything in great detail to you if you need it. The empanadas themselves are crispy on the outside with super flavorful filling. Wow! Okay, I had no idea what to expect when we came here, but we were in the area and my partner needed some coffee. He saw that this place was highly reviewed and brought us here. I ordered the lavender milk tea which has lavender foam atop unsweetened, iced black tea. The foam is delicious! And as long as you drink it from the lid, not a straw, you get a good mix of foam to tea all the way till the end. This is soooooo tasty! One of the best I've ever had. It's not a traditional milk tea though; so, don't go in expecting that. It's foam over iced black tea. The foam is what adds the milk as you drink it. It isn't heavy. It's just perfect. If I lived closer to this place, I would get this all the time. My partner got the mocha frappe. This isn't super sweet; you can definitely taste the coffee as well as the chocolate. Any hate on this place is crazy and I'm blown away by some of the other reviews. Believe has been a go-to for a couple months now for me and the staff has been great, the coffee and tea are phenomenal and the empanadas are the BEST. When it comes to the empanadas they are not a fried, they use a biscuit dough and they have a special quality to them that I've never had anywhere else. My favorite are the Chicken Mole and Ham, Egg, and Cheese. I cannot recommend these enough, they are made with heart and are literally some of the best food you can grab near Milwaukee and Belmont at the moment. This is a small cafe, downgrading it in review for being a stop and shop is unacceptable and asinine. This is the type of place you stop by to grab and drink/some delicious walkable food and be on your way. Should they ever expand I am in support of it but it's a small spot and that's perfectly fine. The staff is always respectful and polite, they will ask how your day is going and make good conversation. That kind of thing is hard to come by in other coffee shops and it's what gets me going back to this place, it's a little community spot. Also, as a tea person these days, their Black tea is my favorite, I get it with some peach flavoring and it's always a little vacation. The coffee is also not WATERED DOWN as another reviewer mentioned, give me a god damn break. It's a standard medium roast coffee and it kicks IMO, I grab one on cleaning days. I haven't had the speciality drinks but I've heard from other friends in the neighborhood they are especially good. Avondale is gentrifying, you have your options: you can go to Dunkin and get the same old, you can go to Magnifco and overpay a developer dormitory coffee shop, or you can support a truly down to earth and wonderful local business. And while I like a standard shitty Dunkin cup every once in a while, Believe is where the real quality and community is at. All the best otherwise. read more

I have always wanted a coffee shop in a short distance away. I finally got one and to top it off, they have empanadas. They aren't your typical empanadas. These are made with biscuit dough. They feel like a homemade meal wrapped up in a hand pie. I highly recommend cafe de olla (hot or cold,) their real horchata latte (hot or cold), and the nutella banana frappe is so good you forget it has espresso in it. read more

I was surprised to see the dough for their empanadas has changed since my last visit. They used to have a biscuit like dough but now it's almost like a parata dough. Both the dough & mole lacked seasoning which is weird bc mole is generally a flavor explosion. Needed some moisture, too. The most disappointing & even dangerous part was the extremely hot coffee (good thing) served in flimsy cups w unsecured lids. Very bad thing. The 1st lid popped off in the cafe when i tried to pick up the cup.. it scalded my finger & splashed all over their counter, but the barista was very sweet & changed the cup & lid immediately. Just overpriced and taste is bland bordering inedible. Coffee is pure processed sugar and syrup which they try to cover the dirt cheap coffee beans yet they charge $10 for. The food...always over cooked, dry, just terrible. And the customer service....terrible. Literally walk up to the counter and they want you to hurry. "Wachu want?"
