Quick, friendly service. There's a cute little patio on the side of the building. The chorizo egg empanada tasted delicious and was the stand out of the two we ordered. The banana Nutella was sweet and oozing with Nutella. Grab a napkin! My horacha latte was terrific. Nice spot for a coffee and quick bite to eat.

Haven't tried the empanadas yet (have heard good things), but the horchata latte is one of my favorite coffee in the city. The pumpkin spice horchata was good as well, but I prefer the original. Service is quick and super friendly! Would def come back to try the food.

Quick, easy, and delicious! Grabbed an assortment of empanadas and a horchata latte before the Southport Art Fest and it was the perfect late morning snack. Loved the lechon, best bang for your buck!

One of my go to spots in the city. I sat outside and enjoyed my empanadas. Try the banana Nutella empanada!

The horchata latte here is delicious! It's perfectly sweet and so refreshing on a hot day. They're super friendly and the outdoor seating area is so cute. Would definitely go back to try the empanadas!

06/07/24 - it's been awhile since I've been here but these are too good to not return. I found out they have 7 locations in Chicago. Excellent empanadas w/a nice variety of different empanadas like beef, spicy green pork, spicy red pork, chicken tinga, banana Nutella.... The line is long on this beautiful spring day 77 degrees & sunny. The last time we was here they were very hot right out of the fryer. This time because of the line they weren't piping hot but they were still delicious. This time I deducted a star cause they weren't super hot SORRY

Always a line here, but it moves quick and is totally worth it. The breakfast veggie empanadas are good - super tasty and filling. Love the colorful artsy vibe of the place and the little outdoor seating area. Perfect quick bite spot!

This colorful cafe really caught my eye after a long cold day shopping. I was planning to just get a basic oat milk latte but quickly changed my mind when I saw that they had an horchata latte! Although I'm not a big fan of sweet drinks, this one was just so good and I would definitely order again. Will have to come back to try some of their food items.

Our friends reintroduced us to Cafe Tola, and since then, we've had their empanadas twice. Compared to a few other empanada places we've tried this year, Cafe Tola makes my favorite empanadas. Satisfying and fun variety. Well-sized and not mini. Their red salsa is too spicy for me, but I like their green salsa. Looking forward to eating there again next time we're in the area :)

Very small and cute shop! You basically just walk in and you're right at the register ready to order. The guava and cheese empanada is my absolute favorite! We have also tried a few other types of empanadas in the past and all have been great! I always get an iced horchata latte as well. Horchata latte and a nice fresh empanada is the perfect combination!

Hey Yelpers! This is the place to go for empanadas! Our daughter brought us here for the first time back in October. While flying out this month (December), this was the first place we wanted to eat. My fave is the chicken tinga. They are all good though. They have meat options and some without. I hesitate to call them vegetarian or vegan because I don't know what exactly they put in the dough or the oil. You could ask, though. The service here is great. I will tel you that they only have outdoor seating, so wintertime eating can be chilly. Maybe eat them in the car or take them home. Either way, we'll be back, maybe even on this trip! Enjoy!!!

I LOVED this place. I had a ropa vieja empanada and a guava con queso empanada and both were 10/10. I also had an horchata latte and it tasted exactly like an horchata. The place itself was small but we didn't have an issue at all since there are two doors to enter and exit and plenty of tables for seating. The only thing I was not a big fan of was the customer service. The two men here were both unwelcoming, not sure what the reason was but was caught off guard by their responses. Will definitely be going back but maybe to another location!!

My food was old, the "owner"(so he says) was rude. Tried to negotiate for fresh food and was told I was not welcome to stay!

Good selection for vegetarians. The guava and cheese and coconut curry were so good. Two of them are decently filling.

The Turkey Turkey sandwich is still my favorite, they also have good soups (great tortilla soup), cakes and pies also. I love that they kept the original decor, wall art and interior over the decades which gives it a nice 90's look and vibe compete with 90's-00's music. I went around 6:30pm on a weekday and things were pretty quiet- although this seemed to be popular for takeout, the interior was very cute and there was ample room for seating. They have an extensive menu of delicious sandwiches on homemade bread, so it was hard to pick just one! I opted for the roast beef sandwich, and it could have definitely lasted for two moderately sized meals. It took a bit longer than expected to come out, but it was perfectly toasted and truly made to order. The unsung hero of the sandwich was the rosemary ciabatta bread, which added that subtle extra flavor that would remind you this is a speciality spot. The avocado and grilled onions with melty cheese made for a well rounded rich flavor. I do think the beef could have been a tiny bit fresher and think a more flavorful aioli would have upped the sandwich, but overall it was still tasty and satisfying. I would definitely return to try more of the sandwiches and recommend paying a visit! I

I've been a customer of almost 10 years and have been obsessed since they first opened their doors at a different location. I literally live an hour away without traffic and even longer with traffic, but I make sure to stop by or send someone else to get it for me at least once a month or more. I love the amazing cakes that are so delicious and unique but on top of that, it is Asian owned, LGBTQ supporting, etc. A lot has changed since their little storefront with no seating. The bakery is now a full on cafe and I'm so happy to see how much they've grown and how successful they are. And while it is glorious, I will say I miss the sweet neighborhood charm and great customer service it used to have. Getting in touch with the bakery through phone or text can be tough and to be honest, sometimes one of the people working there is kind of...very mean. It had me questioning if I should keep coming back. I just love this bakery so much though and being raised by parents that had a small food business, I can't help but want to support. I had a particularly difficult last minute request for the bakery a few weeks ago and I was reminded why this place is so great. It had been YEARS since I made this specific request, which was an order for a slice of cake for every flavor and a cupcake for every flavor. This is a BIG and time consuming request, especially if it's last minute. Unfortunately I come to the city whenever the traffic isn't atrocious, so it's always last minute. Dom absolutely pulled through though. Even though there were other employees there (I saw two others but one disappeared and then another male was kind of walking around the cafe and such), Dom took this giant request and fulfilled it himself. The other gentleman (not the mean person previously mentioned) was actually who I made the request to, but he told Dom to do it. I was kind of confused why they didn't do it together but idk, maybe the other guy isn't allowed to handle food? Who knows. Regardless, this request obviously took a long time and the line was getting longer; people were getting a little restless but Dom stayed calm but was swift. I swear he was moving faster than most people in the industry could with a cake knife like that. He was not impatient or rude to me at all. He was just there to do his job as fast and well as possible. It's so rare to see that type of work ethic. He is also so obviously proud of the bakery and the food they serve which makes you feel good about being a patron there. So although I continue to have an unpleasant experience with one particular employee there, Dom keeps my love for this bakery alive. He reminds me of what this bakery was like when they first opened their doors. I hope Dom is cherished there and I bet he is considering his work ethic. I will continue to support this bakery and I recommend everyone else to support as well. It may not be that small little shop anymore but Dom is a reminder of the heart of the place.
