The Empanadas are so good to be baked and not fried. I like the variety of items for sale. So many flavors of empanadas to choose from. In addition they have chips, desserts, coffee and wine/beer. This is my second time getting empanadas from here. It is an easy item to serve with a salad when you don't wanna cook. On this occasion: beef, bbq chicken, bacon/dates/goatcheese, Mac/cheese, spinach/cheese, and chorizo/cheese/potato, and chicken curry. I really enjoyed the beef, bacon/date/goat cheese. The beef with the chimichurri sauce was fire. I also liked the spinach and cheese but needed hot sauce to bring more elements to the flavor profile. My fiance and I went here before a film at the Music Box. It's conveniently located right down the block! He had the Ham & cheese (his fave) and bacon egg & cheese flavors; I had the Malbec beef (my fave); chorizo, potatoes bravas & cheese; and bacon, dates & goat cheese. When they arrived, they were not labeled in any way, so it was a bit hard to know which was which. I think the Malbec beef was my favorite because it had a sweeter mellow flavor and didn't appear to be combined with anything else in the filling. Wowwwww! These were the highlight of our weekend quick trip to Chicago. We walked through the neighborhoods of Wicker Park to get here and it was such a pleasant experience. It was a mild weathered summer day, so a ten minute walk was cool and peaceful. Once you order the empanadas, it takes about 8-10 minutes to prepare them. Eat them on the spot if you can because the filling is hot, and if there's cheese, it's very creamy. There are two sauce options. You can even buy them jarred to take home. Recently ate from a large group order. There were a variety of carnivore, vegetarians, and vegans. But it was literally impossible to differentiate between the variety of empanadas. A coworker introduced me to 5411 Empanadas during my work shift. I vowed to try it once again solo after taking notice of them having an Impossible Empanada on their menu that evening. I also loved the fact that the restaurant was endorsed by Yelpers: Salena C, Sarah S, Anna K, Mandy C, and Angela S who are credible reviewers around the Chicago & Chicagoland area. As for my solo order, I ordered takeout via Yelp while out-and-about with very little intention of dining in. I ordered two Impossible Empanadas with a San Pellegrino - Grapefruit drink. Being that 5411 Empanadas is located in Wicker Park, I really thought that parking would have been an issue, but it turned out not to be during my visit. I ended up finding a parking spot right outside of the restaurant which made this an in-and-out visit. The parking is 'pay to park' along North Ave as like most restaurants in the Wicker Park area. In the form of a fast casual style restaurant, with a bar-like design, the dining area appeared smaller than I imagined. It blew my mind that the restaurant not only sells espresso drinks, but alcoholic drinks as well behind the counter. Like a bar, there are two flat screen televisions for your enjoyment as you enjoy your meal or drink. My food was ready, awaiting me behind the counter upon arrival. The server in-between preparing orders acknowledged me and gave me my order as soon as she had time after a confirmation. In closing I had a satisfying ordering experience with 5411 Empanadas. TL;DR - definitely swing through here for amazing, fresh empanadas! On a weekend errand trip, my boyfriend and I were walking through the area, and stumbled upon 5411 Empanadas. The store front is modern and clean, and we decided to stop in for a light, late lunch. First and foremost, the menu is huge on the wall by the register. They do have a typical menu on the counter that includes more descriptive information about the empanada choices. This is an easy menu to navigate, with no confusing bells or whistles. The empanadas are 5-6" (according to staff) and they recommended 3-4 for a "full" meal. My boyfriend and I picked 2 each, and it was plenty filling as a light meal. Of note is there are no sides. Not sure if this is culturally typical and I'm unfamiliar, or if just the easy nature of this restaurant, but I didn't find myself missing anything. I chose a classic beef and a mac and cheese empanada, my boyfriend chose bbq chicken and the bacon, egg, and cheese. They do seem to be cooked to order, so we sat and waited, probably 10-15 minutes. All 4 empanadas came out on the same tray, which was fine but atypical of people ordering separately. The pastry used to make these empanadas should be celebrated. It was thin and crispy, but strong enough to hold all the filling. The filling was plentiful (insert apology for no photo because I just honestly enjoyed eating in the moment) and so delicious. The classic beef is absolutely *chefs kiss* and a must try honestly. The mac and cheese was unique and fun! So, don't get me wrong: these empanadas are good. Probably my favorite in the city. However I recently brought my boyfriend here a couple of weekends ago, and things have definitely changed. The biggest and most confusing change of all is that the empanadas are not shaped according to flavor/type anymore. So when we both ordered the empanadas we wanted, there was no way of knowing which empanada we had until we already bit into them. This problem not only is annoying and confusing for the customer, but it is clearly confusing for the cooks as well. When we got home and had to slice into every empanada to figure out what was what, we found out that they screwed up our order. I ordered a bacon date & goat cheese (my favorite), only to find out it was completely missing. This was replaced with a beef, which I already had. Arriving to Chicago on a food truck dream in 2009, these Argentinian Empanadas make a food culture statement. Founded by three people, the company grew into some storefronts in 2012. Growing up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I over indulged in pasties (pronounced: past tees, not paste tees). A lot like pasties, these empanadas are baked pastries with a filling. They are small, they are savory, and they taste of Buenos Aires, Argentina. (Hence, the business name.) Around 12:30 on a Friday, we were in front of a six person line. We waited 10-15 minutes. Water cups and water are located in a cubby off to the right of the register, along with forks, knifes, napkins, etc. Various beverages, like Fanta are sold here. I went ahead and grabbed an unsweetened Agua Fesca. We were told by a staff member that portion sizes are as follows: Snacking: 2-3 empanadas, Meal: 3-4 empanadas. Don't forget the Chimichurri sauce for 50 cents! Here are my favorite 5411 Empanadas ranked in order of preference for us: -Bacon, Dates and Goat cheese (I don't like dates, yet the savory bacon and the salty goat cheese won me over). -Beef Malbec (My husbands favorite, rich flavor) -Chorizo Black Bean and Egg (I liked this one. It was simple, although my husband did not prefer it) We also ordered the BBQ chicken (which lacked flavor and had too many onions for my husbands taste), Caramelized Onions (which is overpowering with onions, you have to really like them), and Mac and Cheese (good but average). I recently went to 5411 Empanadas on North Avenue in Wicker Park. The two of us went in on a late Sunday morning, as the place had just been open for a few minutes. It was relatively quiet there other than a couple of folks having some sort of business meeting, and a handful of takeaway customers. We ordered seven different empanadas to sample ($2.75 each), and indeed they are all quite tasty. They were served to us after about a ten minute wait, which was fine with us. They also serve adult beverages here, though we stuck with a carafe of drinking water on this morning. This is a long overdue review of what I consider a great go-to choice for lunch or a snack. I dined in here pre-COVID-19, and I've gotten pickup and delivery during the pandemic. I've had positive experiences all around with the food - a little less so with in-restaurant service (which is just okay), but nothing that would keep me from coming back. First, the empanadas: the dough is thinner and not super flaky like a very traditional Argentine empanada - and it absolutely works. The empanadas are roughly palm-sized, so the thinner dough is nicely proportional to the filling and doesn't overwhelm it. I've tried several kinds, and my hands down favorite is the Malbec Beef. I'm not a huge red meat fan, but the tender, flavorful shredded beef filling won me over big time. The Caramelized Onion is also a winner, especially with the Parmesan that adds salty cheesiness without being too heavy/creamy. The BBQ Chicken and Chicken Curry are also very good, though the BBQ Chicken is a little too sweet for my taste. They will usually have a special empanada on the menu - on my latest order I tried the Thai Coco Shrimp just to change it up and I thought it was outstanding! I think three empanadas make a nice lunch portion, though two might fill you up if you're not very hungry (they keep pretty well, so yay for leftovers if you over-order!). 5411 has made some nice adaptations to their menu during the pandemic. They started to offer eight-packs of frozen empanadas, and you can choose all eight yourself. This is a really nice way to have them on hand for when the craving hits. They need to be baked in the oven so it will take a bit of time, but I think it's worth it. They also started offering their yummy chimichurri by the jar. It's a little pricey but goes a long way and is a delicious condiment for a lot more than just empanadas. If you don't want to spend on the jar, you can add a side of it (or their hot sauce) to your empanada order. All in all, I really enjoy the empanadas here and will continue being a repeat customer. read more

I had been craving empanadas for a week and after several failed attempts to get my fix at their loop location (which turned out to be permanently closed but not reported), I was excited to try out this location. And they offer free contactless delivery! I ordered two different times since we wanted to try a lot of the flavors and underestimated how small these would be and they came packaged differently each time. One set was in a flat box and we had to cut into each piece to figure out which flavor it was and the other set was individually wrapped and a sticker telling us which was which.
