For those readers who live in the Underprivileged World: (Underprivileged World = Not Living in Chicago. I got that particular definition out of Webster's Chicago Dictionary. That's a book they give to all Chicago kids at birth.) Residents of the Underprivileged World: Taco Pros is a Chicago based chain of fast food Mexican joints. They don't open till lunch time but stay open till 3 in the morning. A lot of Chicago shuts down early (or at least shuts down early by the standards of us Texas folks. We like restaurants, supermarkets, drugstores and convenience stores to stay open 24-7.) So when I wanted to eat dinner a little after midnight, Tacos Pros is what there was. I wanted to get full. I got full. The serving size was generous. The price was right. The food came out instantaneously to boot. * * * On that fast preparation of your order: I think they are on the system where as soon as in the back of your mind you start thinking that you might like Mexican, and you are mulling about pulling out your phone to see what restaurants might be nearby Taco Pros already knows you are coming, Taco Pros already knows what you are going to order and Taco Pros has already started packing your order into a bag. If it is not true that they know in advance that you are coming Then I have no idea how your order comes out so fast. Their speed is really impressive. * * * How is the food itself? Decent enough. Nothing was bad. Nothing gave me instant regrets a la "Out of Desperation, you actually ATE this? What in God's name, were you thinking? Let's see if we can avoid the stomach pump." I'm so sad to make this review because Taco Pros used to be my go to taco spot, but changes in their food are disappointing. I ordered my usual- 3 Barbacoa tacos & received three dry and cold tacos with pale colored meat. I genuinely thought they gave me pork because I've had their barbacoa so many times, these were unrecognizable. The service was great and they offered a replacement because I thought I received the wrong order but when they gave me 3 fresh new tacos it was the same thing- very dry pale colored beef. Barbacoa should never be dry! The salsa verde has also change and is now not spicy but creamy? As someone who has ordered here for years I hope they bring back the original recipes. read more

Pretty good. I've ordered from Taco Pros a couple of times, and it's been fairly decent. The barbacoa tacos are my favorite, but the carne asada are okay too. The latter aren't the most flavorful, but they're decent. I didn't care for the chicken tacos at all, though. Those were bland. I did like the rice and beans, though. However, my sister didn't really care for the food at all, so there you go. She thought it was so-so. Order at your own risk. What a delightful surprise this lunch turned out to be! We tried the green enchiladas, served with beans and rice, along with a carne asada taco and a barbacoa taco. Every bite was a treat. The taco meats were perfectly seasoned and incredibly tender--definitely exceeded my expectations. The salsas were fresh and flavorful, though personally, I would have enjoyed a bit more heat. I typically only order from authentic Mexican restaurants, so I was a bit hesitant trying this place out. I don't regret it one bit! The chicken tacos are delicious. They are so nice and fast. Had taco pros delivered through my corporate lunch service, fooda. The burrito was the perfect portion, size and ingredients were fresh. Standard rice and beans on the side with the combo. I'm seriously questioning the palettes and honesty of every review of this place. This is my second time trying Taco Pros and this is by far the worst tacos I've ever had. On a scale of 1-10 I'd give it a 0 considering the fact these are the most flavorless tacos I've ever tried. Even if you add the green and red sauce the flavor is lacking and you end up with a hint of spice and rubbery fatty bits of steak. The cilantro also leaves a bad aftertaste. As stated this is my second attempt at trying this place out. Both times I placed multiple orders, some which were duplicates (ex. 2 SEPERATE ORDERS OF THE SAME THING) heavy emphasis on the separate and both times they decided to place all the tacos into one container. I realize a lot of their business is hospital staff but not everyone is sharing their lunch. Both me and my friend were going in separate directions and didn't notice until we were already gone that they'd boxed our food into one container. The only reason I finished these tacos were because I was extremely hungry and also didn't want to waste my money. I also haven't written a review in quite some time and felt this place needed a review. I can say the establishment appears clean all the time, the cashier is friendly and prompt but both times didn't listen to get my order correctly and did what she wanted while packing the orders without first asking to see if I wanted everything into one container. She means well and this review isn't about her, it's about the subpar food I just indulged and the minutes of my life I can't get back writing this review and eating those tacos. read more

I went to Taco Pros and I saw they didn't have chorizo on the menu and I guess it wasn't on the menu for a late afternoon order, however they allowed me to get chorizo with the torta. The steak tacos from here were super yummy. They come with onions, lettuce, cilantro, and diced tomatoes (can ask for without of course). If you choose a meal for $12.99 you can get a side of fries and a soda or beans and rice. You order your food at the counter, but they'll bring the food out to your table. When you eat in they also serve you with a bowl of chips and salsa. Took off some points for the peculiar salsa. It came boiling hot, with steam and everything!! At some point in recent history, every place in my neighborhood thought I'd be a good idea to change 6 bucks for a taco. I blame it on the trendy joints like Big Star, Antique Taco, Takito, etc. None of which are traditional. Like why are you putting radish on my taco? And for whatever reason traditional places around here followed suit. I typically travel to Pilsen to get my fix. But then came my saving grace, Taco Pros! For the record, it takes more than a reasonable price to patronize me. Their food is excellent and consistent . The meat is quality. Always comes out hot. Good cuts. I love the way they lightly fry the tortilla. Large portions. The last time I was there I ordered a nacho and I was only able to finish half of it. They bring you chips and salsa which are also delicious. I honestly have a hard time believing a place like this exists in my area. We used to spend a lot of time in Mexico City, and this place is pretty much on par with the best tacos we have had there! The staff at this location is great, and the tacos were just amazing - flavorful, great portion size, and with all the right accompaniments - lime, onions/cilantro, and even chips and salsa at the beginning. The tortillas and the meats felt high quality and we will definitely be returning to this location. One thing to note is that the other locations don't compare and are just average. They didn't bring out the chips & salsa at all, as well as the accompaniments - lime etc. The staff & atmosphere there felt less professional and not really up to standard. The chips and salsa however, were exceptional!! The chips were super well seasoned which I was not expecting, and the salsa was warm?
