Unfortunately I did not have a tasty burrito. Place does have 4 red stars but they did not earn them from me. I ordered a chicken burrito. I felt it was tasteless and filled mostly with lettuce. Fairly decent taco spot in an area of Chicago where the Mexican cuisine is somewhat lacking. Other than Cilantro on Lincoln and Orchard, finding a good burrito and/or taco's is a bit of a challenge if you're in the Lincoln Park are. However, Allende is fairly good for what it is. The lady at the front register is always very friendly and the portions for the price are very reasonable. I usually got either the steak taco dinner with rice and beans or a burrito. The steak is well seasoned and they definitely give you a lot of it in either form. My only complaint is that they don't really have salsa's. They just have this one hot sauce that's ok, but I usually like a green salsa to accompany my tacos/burrito. Despite my one gripe, I would still recommend. read more

As a teenager who attended and graduated (Class of 1999) from Lincoln Park High school this Allende wasn't my Allende of choice! My friends and I would walk the two extra blocks to go to the other Allende off Halsted. (See my Yelp review for that particular Allende) That one was the best one back in the day. Heck it was delicious for years until recently which brought me here. I had not eaten here in twenty years before last year. The tables have turned Chile! They are poppin up in here(insert Nelly's hot in here)! So I came here last week and got my food to go for my mom and I. I ordered my usual "taco place" order. Steak nachos with everything on it, extra cheese and extra sour cream, a side of rice and guacamole and chips. My mom just got the steak nachos. We also had one 7up, a bottle water and I ordered two extra little (2oz) cups of hot salsa. Our total was $34 and some change. We were in a rush and tried to wait and eat it later but we busted it open in the car baby!!!! It was sooooo damn good and the portion was massive as hell...The cheese was perfectly melted, the steak was the two t's (tasty and tender), the chips were nice and crispy. So gooood! The rice is a plain Mexican rice that's lightly flavored and a good side with your nachos. The guacamole was fresh, thick, flavorful and nicely salted with a nice hint of lime. The salsa isn't your typical salsa it's more of a thicker hot sauce consistency nice and spicy. Get an extra one!! I highly recommend this Allende!! Parking is very tight but still go get some! read more

I'm a sucker for a hole-in-the-wall Mexican food spot, and Allende is a place I live close to that I quite frankly need to take advantage of more often. I went here on Labor Day with my boyfriend for some lunch, and no one was inside except for a chef and a woman at the cash register. I ordered an el pastor tostada, and added on some rice and beans. My boyfriend got a skirt steak burrito. The woman at the register said since we were eating in-house, that we could go sit at a table and pay when we're finished. I like that they sell tostadas and tacos in single portions, because I know that I typically can only finish one tostada, even though they're SO good. After I was finished with my tostada, rice, and beans, I felt just the perfect amount of full, and not overwhelmed or like I needed to take a box home. My boyfriend finished his burrito easily as well, and was satisfied with the amount of food on his plate. The woman behind the register was very nice, too, which is always a nice touch to any business! I can't wait to come back, and next time I'm going to try their horchata. read more

One of the few Mexican restaurants I have been to in Chicago.....It was amazing! Its a small restaurant with limited seating, but don't let that discourage you from the food! I ordered their breakfast burrito and it was delicious! Fixed with all the trimmings including, sausage, beans, cheese, sour cream, Lettice, and hot sauce! One of the best burritos I have had so far! I am giving Allende five stars because they consistently deliver quality authentic Mexican food for a very reasonable price. I have been to other so-called Mexican restaurants that don't deliver half the quality that Allende does. It is a small, simple restaurant run by a family that has been there since I started going around 20 years ago. We normally get chorizo and eggs, tostadas or tacos al pastor or with carne asada. All are delicious. The guacamole is tasty and the only thing I've had that I won't get again is the horchata -- too sweet (although I have yet to find a restaurant that serves good horchata) It makes me mad when I see restaurants in other places that claim to serve authentic Mexican food and then charge top dollar for average, watered down Mexican food. Allende is real Mexican food, run by people who have put everything they have into deliver delicious authentic Mexican food. read more

Allende is right around the corner from my house and open late, which are probably the 2 main reasons I'm a fan. I love being able to come home after a late night out and grab a tasty burrito. Allende serves all of the standard Mexican staples and serves breakfast too. I've had the veggie burrito, quesadilla and the nachos and all have been very good. Their prices are also really reasonable too, which is an added bonus. The only real negative about this place is the "salsa" they rightfully call hot sauce because (1) it is quite hot and (2) it has more of a thick ketchup consistency, than a chunky salsa, which I prefer (if I grab my food to go I usually use my own salsa at home). Note: Skip the cheese fries, it's just chihuaha cheese melted over fries. So not worth the price! read more

There are two locations of Allende within like a 5min walk of each other on Lincoln Ave. Not sure if/how they're related. This one is near the Lincoln/Fullerton/Halsted intersection, and I can't speak for the other one. I can't deny it would make awesome cheap drunk food, but I have definitely only eaten here sober, during daylight hours, chosen it over other restaurants that are still open... And it's delicious. If I'm starving and need food asap, I'd love nothing more than a giant burrito from Allende. Al pastor or carne asada with everything. For like ~$5. Stuffed. Rice and beans, pretty standard. The only thing I wouldn't get again is their lengua... a bit dry and flavorless, and it's easy to find better versions at similar restaurants. Personally, I'd rather take out than eat here. The ambiance is very hole in the wall. Booth seats, but most are so close to the backroom that it smells like wet mop/cleaning supplies/dirty mop bucket - not smells you'd want to inhale along with your food. I askes for price of flour shells she said they were .20 cent per shell Once at the register the price jumped to .25 per shell. The burrito I had here was just OK. I've had much better veggie burritos as other places around town, such as Angela's on Clark. These guys use all the ingredients I like... but I don't know somehow it just didn't pack the flavor I expected. They also didn't give me any chips and salsa even though I ate there. If you are a taco lover, Allende has some of the best in town. I usually get the steak tacos with lettuce, tomato, onion and cilantro. I have had the steak burrito twice as well. I always get chips and salsa on the side. The dipping salsa is also good on the tacos. From what I know, these are made to order as well. read more

1. Vegetarians beware...there is nothing good for you to eat here. The veggie options don't actually have any vegetables in them, just rice and beans! And the rice is not yummy. Sadness. 2. We were charged for the chip and salsa, which wouldn't have been bad if I wasn't expecting them to be free per yelp reviews or if the salsa was actually good, but it wasn't. No heat to it at all. 3. Wow, I work at Max Bar and frequently visit here after work on the weekends and the staff is great and food is decent but I went in there today and ordered... The girl working there who has red hair and piercings was super rude, on her phone the whole time swearing and acting non professional while taking my order. Food was good, I asked for carne Asada fries; which the establishment does not offer on menu ; they said they could not make them ; when I asked for cheese fries with and add carne asada they also declined ; I was willing to pay more for the extra meat they said if it's not on the menu they would not be able to make it ; I feel like an establishment like this would be able to tweek a menu to the customers needed but I guess not ; I ended up settling on the Beef quesadilla which was REALLY good; I'm giving 3 stars because they could have easily made Simple accommodations to the menu to satisfy me. I'm a DePaul Alum. So of course, I've spent many a night at Allende. The team at Allende can whip up some darn good tacos, tostadas, tortas and burritos. I personally enjoy the steak tacos the authentic way, with only onions, cilantro, and a lime wedge. The rice and beans, served on the side, are arguably the best rice and beans I've ever had in a Mexican restaurant. And as long as you order something to eat, you'll get a bottomless basket of tortilla chips with the tastiest salsa this side of 26th Street. The good thing about Allende is that every female working there is named Maria. So you can feel right at home and address these muchachas by their first name. Que bueno. I would give Allende 5 stars, however, it loses 1 star for the uncomfortable run-ins with the drunks of Lincoln Park. After hours, Allende is crowded and awkward. The staff is friendly and fast no matter what, so the service won't change. But if you went to DePaul, be prepared to see some of those "super seniors" who still frequent the bars on Lincoln Ave. and this delicious taco joint afterwards. read more
