Fantastico! We stopped in for lunch and ordered up a quick bite of torts and burritos. Both were done exceptionally well. Adrian was super friendly behind the counter... and took our order with a smile. This is a down to basics Mexican spot that did not disappoint. Hand painted murals on the wall were a throwback look. The booth was a little beat up, the 24 hour signage was a bit faded, but it all leads to an amazing meal for a reasonable price. And for you Amigo? Don't forget to ask for the hot salsa... it's the red one! read more

First, I arrived when the gentlemen were having their dinner in the kitchen. They quickly put their meal down to take my order and get my chicken burrito ready. Burrito was to go and had it prepped, assembled and bagged quickly! As far as the burrito, I guess I was not that drunk? to enjoy it as other patron would after a handful of rounds. I went here last weekend because a man was having a seizure outside and we needed to get him water / napkins. I had told one of the employees what was happening, he said "not my problem" and was extremely rude and also had us pay for napkins and the water, which the water I understood but the napkins were ridiculous. Lunch with family. Had the burrito - decent. They grill it crisp on the griddle which is nice. My wife and daughter had tacos which they enjoyed. Chips and salsa just OK and not a ton of flavor. The best aspect of this establishment is that it is open until 4 AM... Came in here with a few friends at around 3 AM after visiting a few bars and having a few too many beers... it was absolutely PACKED! It was a pretty awesome vibe in there for being so late at night, and the workers were super friendly and were having a great time joking around with all the inebriated patrons. With that being said... The food was pretty mediocre, but I'm keeping the rating at a 3 because of the ambiance! Carne Asada burrito - 3/5 - Maybe it was because it was literally 3 AM and it had been sitting on the grill for a while, but the meat tasted pretty dry and was not the most flavorful Chips and Guacamole - 0/5 - Ok... in terms of taste, it was solid, but I didn't check the price before ordering and it was $9 for chips and guacamole! Holy Moly! This is the best Mexican Restaurant I've ever ate at in Chicago. This has got to be the best Mexican Restaurant I've ever been to in Chicago. I tried the California Burrito Steak with No Guac and Tomatoes. I've never tried a burrito with fries in a burrito before and I loved it. It has to be the best burrito I've ever eaten. Stepped out of Kingston Mines and we needed a bite to eat this is literally about 2 doors down and you can tell they get the late night crowd. You have gente behind the counter making your food so you know it's authentic. The men were very welcoming and I can tell they knew we were immediately not from Chicago. They seemed surprised when I order the Chile relleno, maybe it doesn't get ordered that much? My husband ordered an all meat burrito. We were told we would be pleased as they will put mucho cariño in the food, lol. They waived us to take a seat and brought our food to us, and we dug in. I wasn't able to get a photo of the burrito but it was significant in size and my husband was pleased. The chile relleno plate was exactly what I hoped for, nice light batter in an equally light and tasty broth. I don't necessarily care for refried beans but these had a nice flavor. The salsas were yummy and horchata nice and cold. I think the name could be deceiving, they might whip the food out pretty quick, but the flavor is there. SOMEBODY HELP THIS PLACE GET MORE PUBLICITY. Sob, empty when we stopped by this evening for lunch, save for the smiling staff and their cute store which actually extended pretty deep. Wonderful customer service (such warmth and good people!) owner was extremely nice and let us pay after we'd finished eating (even though it was counter ordering), and asked us twice if we needed anything else (another lime, perhaps?). Usually, when I go to restaurants where business isn't great, I worry about the freshness of the ingredients and the quality of the food, but this place, despite a pretty corny name, really hits the nail on the head. Super fresh ingredients, better quality/amount of steak than other places I've been (definitely better than any Mexican place in Ukrainian Village), and really generous (and good!) portions of rice and beans. Of course, the price is hella worth it, two taco dinners for no more than $15. Maybe its the location? Maybe its their name...idk what it is, but please, give this place a shot, even if it might look a little empty from the outside. Tip: when i go for mexican food, I 95% of the time get their taco dinner, and when I do, I 99% go for the authentic way: cilantro and onion with a lime slice on the side. I'm use to onion & cilantro on tacos but when places like taco & burrito express add sour cream and cheese (lettuce& tomato) it's a plus !! And at no extra charge 3 dollar tacos are worth it !! Friendly service when I got there and reasonably priced, but when I went to pay for my food after they charged me way more than what the menu stated. My nachos were 25% more expensive because they claimed their menu was wrong, but there was no way in knowing this. They wouldn't help with this so I have to now go through my credit card company to dispute this fraudulence. The food was okay, didn't have a lot of flavor and the salsa they gave me was very watered down and had no flavor as well. Don't go here, this place is a scam. read more

This is not your fancy mexican joint where you get table-side guac or a sizzling plate of fajitas. You come here for a greasy burrito served quickly with decent service, and that's exactly what you get. The chorizo taco was a highlight, spicy but not overwhelming with chopped lettuce and sour cream. Pretty good, if you're into that. Chicken burrito left a little to be desired. Grease streamed down my fingers and coated my plate as I ate it, but it tasted fairly light. A little too much tortilla for my tastes, but overall I enjoyed it. I have to say, I was very apprehensive when my buddy suggested that we go to this place for some late night eats given the name alone. Having said that, this place exceeded expectations beyond my wildest dreams. As I write this right now, my tastebuds yearn for the excellent queso that was applied to my perfectly crafted burrito. The gentleman behind me in line was a regular who had a few beers that night, and BEGGED me to order the California burrito, as it was a secret menu item. His name was Trent I think. I thought he was messing with me at first, but the only thing that got messed with was my expectations for future late night taco joints. The chicken burrito was made fresh, and had great structural integrity due to the gentle grill at the end of its construction. The avocado was fresh as could be and blended perfectly with the aforementioned queso. Lastly, on bite number two, I came across a crunchy profile that I quickly identified as French fries. Yes. That's right. French fries in a burrito. I was floored at how well the multitude of flavors worked together to create a truly unforgettable late night treat. I don't really understand it, but my fiancé absolutely loves this place. Late-night or mid-afternoon, it's his go-to taco joint in the area! The interior is VERY hole-in-the-wall. Tables are sticky, and the entire place is extremely dated. But for a 24/7 food place, what do you expect? The carne asada tacos are our go-to item, and they're served with just the traditional toppings -- onion and cilantro. The spicy red salsa really makes it complete! I recently branched out and ordered the nachos but wasn't the biggest fan. Smothered in white cheese with canned tomatoes, small amounts of meat, and an almost unnoticeable amount of (probably also canned) beans, they were kind of sad and bland. If you're looking for a sit-down Mexican meal, head to Las Fuentes next door. But if you're looking for some quick tacos to-go or in the middle of the night, Taco Burrito Express is a-okay. read more

After watching some awesome performances next door at Kingston Mines, my brother and I rolled thru here for some drunchies. Probably about 99% of the clientele were on the same boat as us... stumbled in several drinks deep & looking for some food to munch on for revival. Being from California originally, I've had my fair share of grungy taco/burrito shops and Taco & Burrito Express might be as close as it comes as far as atmosphere wise to the ones I've been to near and around San Diego. Is it as good? Definitely not. I ordered the Al Pastor burrito. I was expecting more of of a finely chopped sort of marinaded pork, but instead was given shredded oily pork. Super greasy and messy to eat. I did enjoy the salsa verde and roja that was served on the side, but overall the oiliness of the meat kinda just made the burrito not as enjoyable as I'd hope. Left this place in disbelief from disrespect. The entire time the cashier was talking shit about my boyfriend in Spanish. My boyfriend is white and I am first gen Salvadoran/Mexican and am fluent in both English in Spanish once the cashier knew this he found it his goal to inform me that my boyfriend is a good for nothing loser that I shouldn't be with. I ordered an horchata and my boyfriend ordered enchiladas I understand if they were upset about me not ordering more so I left a tip in their jar and so did my boyfriend yet he persisted to throw insults and my boyfriend. Honestly the reason I didn't order anything else was because it all looked nasty and the entire restaurant looked like it hadn't been cleaned ever. And honestly the horchata was shit as well.
