​I visited Los Compadres de Guerrero LLC today for my mom's 72nd birthday and was unfortunately a bit disappointed with our experience. ​Service and Order Confusion ​I initially tried to order a chorizo dinner with rice and beans. The waitress informed me that chorizo only came in tacos, which surprised me because I had ordered it as a dinner platter here in the past. To keep things moving, I ordered the chorizo taco dinner for my mom. However, when the food arrived, I quickly realized my mom actually wanted a chorizo and eggs dinner with rice and beans. ​Because of the mix-up, she didn't touch her food. I would have thought the waitress might have connected the dots when I previously mentioned having a chorizo platter here in the past, but she didn't. We ended up reordering the correct chorizo and eggs dinner. The waitress asked if we wanted to wrap up the untouched taco dinner to go, and I said no. Frankly, I expected them to remove it from the bill since it was completely untouched and the confusion stemmed from the initial miscommunication, but we were charged for it anyway. ​Food Quality and Authenticity ​This was my first time trying the cheese enchiladas here, and I ran into an issue. They tasted a bit strange, so I asked what kind of cheese they used. I am used to authentic, Mexican-style enchiladas made with Queso Chihuahua. The waitress explained that they use mozzarella instead--a cheese primarily used in Italian food and pizza, not authentic Mexican cuisine. ​The waitress kept checking in, asking "how is everything?" However, once I actually voiced my concerns about the dish, she did absolutely nothing to accommodate me. I wasn't looking for a refund, but rather a reasonable compromise--like remaking the dish with a different cheese or exchanging it for another item that didn't use mozzarella. Instead, no alternatives were offered, even though I barely touched my meal. ​Final Verdict ​This restaurant feels much more like Tex-Mex than authentic Mexican food. While most people in the area might not notice the difference, I certainly do, having eaten authentic Mexican food for 48 years. It was not the birthday experience I had hoped for. read more

We moved to a place just down the street in Ukrainian Village. And we moved from LA, where we ate tacos at least once a week. Finding Los 3 Compadres de Guerrero only a block and a half away from our new home has me forgetting all about great tacos in LA, seriously. Los 3 Compadres de Guerrero's are excellent and a decent value. I usually order the taco dinner and take one asada, one pastor, and one cabeza. If taken in the traditional way with onions and cilantro, they come with a proper solid green layer of cilantro. The salsas are fresh--all four of them, two red and two green. The space is a bit dark inside. That said, the last time I was there a couple of groups came in and took tables while I dined alone. The vibe instantly livened up. So maybe come with a group of taco lovers. The family operating this place are very friendly and welcoming. read more

Food was very bland and lacking seasoning, queso was watery and flavorless. I did appreciate you could order grilled jalapeño on the side, and the accoutrements with the platters- salsa verde was good. A very solid taqueria on Western between Augusta and Chicago Ave. If you drinking at EZ Inn or need a regular joint nearby they never disappoint. Shrimp tacos are excellent! I stopped by here for a late night quick bite. I got lengua (tongue) tacos and they were okay. The texture was more of a pulled pork stringy texture and I wasn't expecting that. It was about 12am, so the dining area was empty. If you eat in the restaurant they serve free chips and salsa. Our waitress was very kind and sweet. It's worth mentioning that I've tried to come here before for dinner and it would be randomly closed. I think it's family owned, so hours may not be consistent. read more

When you go to an ice cream restaurant, what's your go-to flavor to assess quality? Has to be a relatively common menu item while not being too vanilla (so to speak). Mine is cookies and cream. You can obtain a lot of information - size of chunk, chunk:cream ratio, quality of cookie. In a similar vein, I think chilaquiles are a comparable biopsy of Mexican restaurants. Chilaquiles have all of the foundational elements of quality Mexican food - chips, salsa, eggs, meat, veggies, various accoutrements. Let's start with the obvious - fresh chips are key. Premade soggy chips are about as bright of a red flag as a Nigerian prince with a financial emergency. Salsa flavor also says a lot - is it fresh? Well seasoned? Zesty and/or zany? But we're just getting started. Like one out of tune violin in an orchestra, dry chicken or limp veggies is gonna tank the whole symphony. 3 Brothers passed the test with flying colors. Everything was perfect and just to be sure, we got a couple of tacos on the side which were similarly generous in portions and rich in flavor. This area is flush with so many great mexican restaurants, it's definitely hard to stand out. But this place is not Shaq or Steph - more like a Tim Duncan. Strong on fundamentals, reliable execution, and trustworthy in the clutch. Take it from someone who has now had takeout from nearly every one of these spots at least once (It's not a problem thanks for asking) this place excels in both quantity and quality. The food was great and the service was considerate. However, the staff put on some pretty inappropriate and loud music (lots of swearing). Additionally, their child was running around, yelling, and using the dining area as his playroom. We asked for music to be turned down and they did. Side dishes like rice and beans came out cold. The food is soooo bomb! The shrimp tacos are some of the best around--huge shrimp loaded with cabbage and a really flavorful sauce. The steak is always seasoned well and not fatty. I'm generally a taco person, but the burritos are great too. Tortas are huge and delish. Rice and beans are solid. Chips and salsa or guac are a must... honestly I don't have anything bad to say about Los 3 Compadres D Guerrero. It opened last year and I'm so glad it did! Been to plenty of mexican restaurants in the city, i've tried a lot of tacos dinners. This by far was the best i've had. Mexican spots usually get lazy with their rice and beans but not this place. Rice and beans were on point! Got 3 tacos Cabeza, Chicken, and carnitas. The carnitas was my favorite of the three. Horchata, fire! Chips and avocado, fire! My husband and I decided to go for a long walk and al pastor taco crawl on a Sunday afternoon. We decided to try this newer place in the neighborhood while looking for tacos on our route. They were friendly, fast, and had a clean bathroom (bonus on our long walk). The Al pastor tacos were well-made and flavorful (they offer both traditional and gringo options, we do cilantro and onions). We would have had more, but were on a mission. I had the lengua and chorizo tacos here and they were delicious. The lengua was made correctly! By correctly I mean soft and not dried out. Some places fry the lengua and all the flavor and tenderness disappears. The chorizo here also had great flavor and was not overcooked (burnt). The people here are so so nice and made me feel welcomed. read more
