Excelente! It's Small Business Saturday, and I was craving a burrito. Perfect timing to try Papacito's. The ordering process via their website was really seamless. It's through Square, so I don't think they have the crazy surcharges like through Grubhub, etc. They currently have a deal on free delivery so now is the perfect time to give it a shot. I ordered the chicken burrito dinner and a chicken soup. The food came in 40 minutes straight to my door, perfectly packaged. They even gave a bag of homemade chips and salsa, on the house, which was a really nice touch. They were generous with the salsa, which I always appreciate. If you douse salsa on everything like me, you'll appreciate the amount of salsa they give. The portions were large, and most importantly, everything was delicious. The food was fresh, made with finesse, and not overly greasy or heavy. It was perfect. The flavors were on point. It definitely tasted authentic, but not crazy heavy. The chicken in the burrito wasn't too dry or anything. It was just right. The chicken dinner was big enough to eat half and save the rest for another meal. I would definitely recommend this place. My friend and I were walking north on Lincoln on a mission we referred to as MexiQuest. The goal? To find a relatively cheap yet delicious Mexican restaurant. MexiQuest was successfully accomplished as we walked into Papacito's. It's a small, no-frills joint - the kind of place you might bypass for weeks or months before finally trying it. But when you do, it's bound to become a dietary staple. I ordered the steak burrito plate. The burrito was hot and the meat had some delicious seasoning going on. (This runs contrary to almost every bland, cold nightmare of a burrito I've sampled in Chicago.) I also enjoyed the side of rice. Complimentary chips and salsa rounded out the meal. I just stopped by for a quick lunch and Papacito's did not disappoint. The tacos were delicious. Steak and chicken was perfectly seasoned and the corn tortillas were soft and fluffy. Stopped here in last night for some dinner. My friend lives nearby and said it was good. I went with the papcito combo. 1 taco, 1 quesadilla, rice, beans and a pop for $9. I went with a carne asada taco it was good, but halal meat usually is. For the quesadilla I went with the veggie option. It was good, but I feel the veggies could've had some flavor themselves, the cheese is what made it delicious. The beans maaaaaan were they good. I'm not usually a refried bean fan, but these were delish! My date ordered the enchilada plate. Carne asada. I'm pretty sure he really enjoyed everything considering his plate was clean. I love chips & salsa and papcitos didn't disappoint. The tortilla chips tasted homemade and the salsa was perfect! Not spicy, but definitely flavorful. I'd come back to try some of their options. Just don't get nachos. You get literally 8 chips. I'm not paying 75 cents a chip for their artful arrangement. Tamale plate and side of chips and salsa were a good value though and tasty. I stopped in for lunch here today, and the place was pretty empty. I don't understand why. The food was great, the service was good, the bathroom was clean, and you could see them cook the food! Everything I had was at least good. The rice was just fine, after that everything else was great. The beans were really good, the chips and salsa were homemade and great. Came here drunkenly on a St. Patty's Day weekend, but from what I remember this restaurant is exactly what this rating gives - "A-OK". There's better Mexican nearby, but this place isn't a terrible option either. It is sort of a hole in the wall and I wouldn't go there for dinner, but it is a decent lunch spot. Not much space, very local feel, not much mexican flair. Just...normal. Service was attentive, but getting the food and drinks were sort of slow. The food is decent, again from what I remember. The beans and rice served with my carne asada tacos were average, but the steak was at least a large portion. My belly was full, even though my taste buds wanted more. This is mostly a counter serve restaurant, but there are a few small tables jammed into the tiny space and they do offer full table service. The best that can be said is that it's a good deal to get the combo meal which includes a can of soda for $9. There was nothing remarkable about the enchilada or relleno, though. I also tried a fish taco, since they bragged about having been named the best fish taco, and it was okay. The pico de gallo on the fish taco was the most flavorful item I had. This place is totally authentic. Love the taco salad! Feels like I'm back in Mexico! Wait staff are super cheerful and friendly. It's refreshing to see servers who are passionate about where they work. Their love of the food is a testament to how good the food actually tastes. Everything is marinated and made from scratch (according to the server), and it's obvious that a lot of love goes into the food. I've eaten here twice this week and will definitely be back for more! They are very accommodating to food allergies!!! Major plus for my gluten free, vegan needs. Yum! read more

Soft-shell steak tacos included refried beans and rice. Tasty. The chips were very good but the salsa was too spicy. However, we were grossed out and disappointed in the taco salad. It included cooked broccoli and spinach; the latter is a no-no for anyone who's experienced kidney stones. The tres Leche cake was ruined with a gooey layer of artificial whipped cream and a pool of thin chocolate-flavored sauce. We scraped off what we could and ate the remaining third. I dunno dude. In case you're not fluent in Californian, that just means I'm kinda disappointed. I walked in during the middle of the day, and I was the only customer. Out came the free chips and salsa, which were OK. I ordered the steak taco, a tamale, and a side order of rice and beans, and was immediately taken to Sad Town. It's upsetting when the best tasting thing on the plate is the beans. The rice was bland, the steak wasn't seasoned, and the tamale's masa was crumbly and dry. To be fair, it was edible. But calories are valuable things! I wouldn't want to spend them here again. The woman who took my order was attentive - she checked on me a few times throughout my meal - but she never smiled once. It made me feel like an awkward turtle. It felt more like she was rushing me than checking on me. So to sum up: Papacito's Mexican Grille...I dunno dude. read more

I was feeling adventurous on my walk to the bank, so I just walked in the nearest door that had a sign indicating that food is served behind said door. It's amazing that I even saw the door because Papacito's is well-camouflaged, including a gigantic window air conditioner above the door that leaks on your head as you walk in. Pleasant. It's places like this that challenge my curiosity to think of [legal] ways businesses can make enough money to not go under within two months. I got there at 12:15, prime lunch time, and there was one guy leaving as I sat down. No one else entered while I was there through 1:00. Your gross revenue isn't even enough to pay the rent! As I sat eating my Mexican pizza, I felt like I was in a garden apartment rather than an above-ground place of business. Instead of wall-to-ceiling glass on the storefront or something close to it, there are three sets of French doors with hardly any glass on them and a few planters hanging on them from the outside which eliminate almost all natural light inside the restaurant. The salsa was unique and good, but everything else was just run-of-the-mill Mexican food. I don't see myself making any special trips back there. read more

I found out this place served Halal Mexican food, and excited by that possibility I gave this place a visit and was happily satiated. I really enjoyed the steak quesadilla, but the chicken taco was bland and without much flavor. I'll probably get a beef taco next time. Haven't had the burritos and other items besides those listed above, but the steak quesadilla was good enough to give me confidence about the other items. Will be back. read more

First off, they have Zabiha Halal meat (for those of you who are muslims).... Service: besides the attitude problems of our server, everything went smoothly because I'm never a fussy customer. There was one thing that got under my skin though I asked the server for extra Pico de gallo and she looked at me like a "Lion would Cabbage" and said that it is already on my entree, to which I decided to tell her the meaning of "EXTRA".... Menu: Pretty diverse with all day breakfast Mexican style! I got the Black bean and Beef Taco Salad and surprisingly wasn't that bad. Their salsa had a little zing to it, which is the way I like it but the Pico de Gallo was well for lack of a better word unimpressive. My friends had chicken Tacos and they said there was a weird smell to the cooked chicken....I had no complaints about my salad, though you'd have to be a complete and utter moron to mess up a salad :D Decor: Very Simple cafeteria style. Price: Pretty reasonably priced and they also have Papa's Specials which include choices of mix and match with Tacos, enchiladas etc etc.... Just had it today for the first time because a few days ago I read online that this place was zabiha halal. Anyway, I'm just glad that now I if I want Mexican food - I don't hav to limit myself to vegetarian choices. I had the nachos with ground beef and melted cheese and the steak burrito. The prior was even better than I expected and the latter was pretty fulfilling. They give you free chips with salsa on the side if you want. Oh I also had a slice of tres leches cake -- it was ok.. So taste wise -- overall, I'd say they're atleast average but the main problem I had was the prices -- they were a bit higher than I expected but then again it's the only zabiha halal Mexican food place in the Chicago area that I know of. I love it and heres why: hungover, sleepy me ' can i have a breakfast burrito?" them "sure it comes with peppers, onions, avocado,mushrooms?" me- in pain "no. can i just have eggs and potatoes? im REALLY hungover, I mean- bad. Damn good food. My g/f had the veggie wrap which looked excellent but I didn't try it. Her only complaint was that it came cold which was not noted on the menu. I had the diabla shrimp which was AWESOME. Very spicy but not overpowering and it came with Tortilla shells which was great. I also had the fish taco and let me say that they do not scimp on the meat and the pineapple sauce was a nice addition. Best part about the order was the delivery....it literally took 30 minutes, well under the 1 hour time frame given. Delivery guy was also super friendly which was cool to. I'll definitely order again. Since this first review I have been back several times. While I stick with the fish tacos ( they are badass!)my girlfriend has moved on to the Enchiladas. I'll start off by saying... GROSS!!!! Although I know it's never a great idea to have mexican food delivered, we figured we live close enough to the restaurant, why not. The food was cold, bland & myself as well as my two friends who ordered with me had to throw our food out. I really wish I could pass it off as an "off day" for this restaurant, but the food was so terrible that I don't think I will ever order from them again & neither will my two friends. Besides the terrible food, they also had terrible service. One of the orders was wrong & when I called in to speak with the woman who had taken my order originally she argued with me & insisted that I was the one who made the mistake. The request was simple No Onions in the Quesadilla's, as my friend is allergic. I guess the woman taking my order must have had early dementia, because 4 other people heard me say it. read more

Great place. Visiting Chicago and this was the first place I ate since it is between the airport and downtown. The steak that came with the salad was awesome - I couldn't finish it and even 3-4 hours later it tasted great. Will have to somehow try to come early one AM and try their Mexican breakfast. I ordered delivery from this place last night, and although the after-effects were less than spectacular (think Dumb and Dumber minus the strange haircuts, brightly colored tuxedos and the owl... wait, was there an owl? I think I remember an owl. But why? What did an owl have to do with anything? Did the owl get killed? I think it might have. But again, why?) the consumption of the food itself was quite nice. And really, Mexican food is all about the subsequent destruction of porcelain apparatuses, right? I've yet to find a really regular Mexican place in Chicago, and while I'm not quite sure this is it, I definitely feel that it earned a repeat testing. While nothing I had was spectacularly overwhelming, the facts are: - The food-- meat, veggies and flour based products-- all tasted fresh. - The rice tasted Mexican, as Mexican rice is supposed to. - The portions were generous and the prices cheap. - The delivery guy had a sweet-ass ponytail and one sparkling gold tooth. -The food itself was solid. Oh sure, it could have been greasier, but the lack of said grease makes you feel like you treated yourself a little better than you expected to. That's not necessarily a bad thing, I suppose. I'm a fan of any place that gives my group free nachos. You just can't argue with that. We went for a friend's bday and had a group of about 12. Papacito's was really nice about our large party (we called ahead), and as I mentioned before, free nachos. They also let you keep your been in the cooler so it doesn't get warm during the course of the evening, which I thought was great. I had a combo platter and everything I tried was really good, but I ended up taking most of it home because I was too full from chips and salsa and (free...I just can't say it enough) nachos. I have eaten here quite a few times since it's right across the street from my work. Really good, fresh food. 1. Rice: Good, flaky, not mush. 2. Beans: I think they are the best I've had in a restaurant. Not greasy, flavorful. 3. Taco: Steak-Delish and tender. 4. Chips and Salsa-I like mine spicier but the salsa was good. Chips are fresh and salted. 5: FLAN: Here is where they keep me. Their flan was one of the best I've ever had...even better than my good friend's moms homemade. This review is for the food. The service was absolutely ridiculously terrible. To start of the chips are the BEST. So thick, so crisp, so good! The salsa is really good if you don't like spicy foods, but I ended up adding hot sauce because I like a little kick. The beans are delectable. I got a chicken taco with a side of beans and while their food is a litttttttttttttttttle tiny bit more expensive a la cart then most hole in the wall mexican places, it was worth it. The taco was really really good and my bofyriend got chicken enchilladas which he said were also really good. The people who work there are really nice but completely ignore you when it comes to service. When i say ignore i mean the waitress will literally walk past your empty plates a million times before saying a word and my water wasn't filled once while i was there. Its just bad. Loved this place. Came here a week ago with a very large group of girls for a birthday party, and we got spectacular service. The food? The enchiladas were excellent. I got the verde sauce, though I usually go with mole, because of a Yelp review I read before going. I was very impressed with the flavor and spice! Papacito's is great for what it is. A step above your typical fast food burrito takeout joint and a step below a full blown sit-down restaurant. I've had most things on the menu and haven't really been disappointed with anything. The chicken fajitas are excellent, I've never had a problem with the quality of the meat. I've had the carne asada a couple of times and it's probably one of the better takeout versions I've eaten. The tortas and tacos are good as well. Nothing is really extraordinary, but it's all very good food. The people that work here are super nice as well, the owner is there quite often and they'll usually hook me up w/free chips and salsa on a takeout order. It's the small details like that that keep me ordering from here once a week. If you're in the neighborhood, it's definitely worth stopping in for dinner or ordering some takeout. read more

I love this place. It is close by so I have never done takeout but they seem to do a lot of takeout business. If you go during the week, it tend to be pretty quiet. It is pretty unassuming but the wait staff is extremely friendly (they are quick with fresh free chips and a salsa as well as a pitcher of water on the table) I have to mention the jicima salad. It comes with pineapple, black beans, peppers and jicima (a ton of it) along with a pineapple dressing. It is perfect for a summer meal or a lite meal at any time. Also the fish tacos are delicious. The fish is fresh and meaty and yum yum yum. One taco is $2.69 but you really get a lot of fish and fixings. The salad portion is huge. I also like how they note that some menu items are vegetarian and vegan. I am also fan because they don't cover everything with cheese and the ingredients are fresh and non greasy. It isn't the most impressive place but it is simple and inexpensive. Try sitting out here in the summer, they have a cute little patio. I want to come back and do a BYOB dinner here. read more

Dear Papacito's: I think I love you. Growing up around O'Hare (or what some may refer to as "Little Mexico", I've gotten used to having good, cheap Mexican food nearby. After moving to the Northside, I realized my options were limited. Then, Papacito's swooped in and saved the day. I've had the Huevos Mexicano, Carne Asada, and pancakes. Yes, this Mexican restaurant has some ah-maaazing pancakes. Oh - and let's not forget about the guac, flan and tres leches cake. Everything has been pretty amazing so far, however I did find their flan a little "meh" and their chips a little salty. Still, not bad enough to deter me! Only complaint? The $20 delivery minimum is a little high for this single girl. Because really? Ordering 2 entrees (pancakes for breakfast tomorrow - yay!) + appetizer or dessert in order to meet the minimum is not doing the size of my ass any favors. read more

Underwheming, in general. Tasteless guacamole, which is a real disappointment for me. The chicken in the burrito was okay, the salsa was slightly spicy, and the chips tasted home-baked. Weirdly, the quesadilla appetizers arrived vastly different from how they're described in the menu. They tasted okay, but still, we were looking for a basic cheese quesadilla. Lived two blocks away for two years and never knew. This place is too legit, best fish tacos in the city is no exaggeration! Also try the shrimp tacos, camarones por favor! Not open late but that's ok, outstanding pickup and delivery service despite having a crappy website that doesn't work. These guys are catering masters as well. Ordered via Delivery.com. Paid extra for a few of the salsas to try them out but really only liked the one that came with the chips the regular red salsa although it was too liquidy. Hey Papacito's, you are my new friend. I finally decided to venture out of my new apartment (okay so I've been living there for 4 months now) and eat more food nearby. I'm not a HUGE fan of Mexican food but I saw it today and just felt like a taco. I ended up getting the daily special (taco, quesadilla, rice & beans, and a drink for 7.99 + chips and salsa for 1.49) to go. Soooo much food and so good. The chips and salsa portions are huuge and delicious. Everything tastes pretty dang good, especially those beans. I'll be eating this all week. The ambience inside is so adorable, warm, and homey, it made me want to stay around and eat inside on this unusually chilly September night. Oh, and the people there were really nice too! read more

Had some Papa's for lunch the other day. Called in for delivery but was told the wait time would be 45 minutes...seeing as I'm only about a 5 minute walk, I decided to go pick it up myself...this cut the wait time to 15min...awesome! So, I tried something new...a black bean burrito. Delicious! A giant tortilla filled with black beans (duh!) onion, red, green and yellow peppers, cilantro and maybe some other spices. Usually comes with rice but I'm not a big rice fan so I went sans rice. I got it covered in salsa with some cheese melted on top...also comes with sides of rice and beans! Anyway, besides the burrito I had the chips, salsa and guacamole...yum!
