It's Lenten season, so throughout March I've been exploring more vegetarian options. After finding out that Bloom Chicago was temporarily closed, my sister and I decided to check out Bru Chicago at 1562 N. Milwaukee Ave., right in the heart of Wicker Park. The first thing I noticed was how cute the space is. It has a cozy café vibe with plenty of seating, soft pillows, and even an overflow area in the back. The warm brown tones throughout the space make it feel inviting and comfortable, perfect for relaxing or getting some work done. I also have to give a big shoutout to the staff. Everyone was incredibly accommodating and very knowledgeable about the menu. It was my first time trying this style of food, but my sister (who was visiting from El Paso) was more familiar and helped guide us a bit. We ordered rice crêpe and shared an açaí bowl, and I was genuinely blown away by both. I got the tofu rice crêpe, which were perfectly seasoned, honestly one of the most delicious things I've had all month. I practically inhaled them. As for the açaí bowl, I had mine with strawberries and dragon fruit, and it felt like a full-on discovery. I couldn't believe something dairy-free could taste that good. It was refreshing, flavorful, and honestly a bit of a revelation, I can't wait to have another one. Overall, my first experience at Bru Chicago was excellent. I have no complaints. I walked into Bru in my two tone Caleb Williams jersey that I bought from a Mexican street vendor the day before, drenched in sweat and mud after running routes over at Wicker Park. It may have just been the jersey, but I was DEALIN. I threw like 9 TDs and only 1 pick. My friends and I visited here yesterday. We each ordered crepes and two of us ordered coffees. The crepes, although overpriced, were DELICIOUS. I had the vegan tofu crepe and it was really good. All of us really enjoyed our crepes, but like most reviews, we felt with the exception of the lox crepe my friend ordered that our crepes were on the overpriced side. My feeling is that these crepes are paying the rent here. It's Wicker Park and it's a great location. For a rice crepe with tofu and vegetables with a cup of coffee was $23. From a costing point of under a $1 to create (rice, tofu and veggies are dirt cheap) the markup on these crepes is ridiculous when you actually think about it. That being said, the crepes cost more than just the price of ingredients. You have front and back of the house costs to factor in. It just feels like this food is on average $3 more than it should be. They have the constant traffic and I don't think they are struggling to pay the bills. I had also ordered the lavender white chocolate mocha and my friend the pumpkin spice. Neither of us could taste any flavor at all in our coffees. The coffee itself wasn't mind blowing and this is a coffeehouse! Very, MID. It wasn't awful and it was great. There was no flavor AT ALL of Lavender or white chocolate. It just tasted like regular drip coffee mixed with oat milk. I ended up just throwing it away. I was disappointed as the profile sounded great. When I shared that my coffee had no flavor, my friend stated that in her coffee she couldn't taste anything remotely pumpkin spice and hers tasted like regular coffee and cream. The staff was not able to be the most outgoing as they just seemed very busy the entire time we were there. There wasn't any small talk, interacting or anything. It was like everyone there had 5 jobs to do. While I was there, I never saw a single worker free from tasks long enough for any small talk or interaction with the customers. Just stopping long enough to take an order and back to work. Even when going to use the restroom, I had to bother a barista diligently pumping out coffee orders. Customers never want to feel like we are bothering employees. Get more employees and let these people breathe. Other than that, the place is clean. Great vantage points for people watching inside and out. The interior has a cool, hip look about it. It's located right next to Myopic Bookstore and would be a great place for first dates and catching up. read more

I came here for the first time and tried their honey yuzu matcha. It definitely has the yuzu flavor so I liked it. I took off a point because service was slow even though I was the only one. We chilled at Bru Chicago before our flight. It's convenient located near the train station on the way to O'Hare. The vibe of the coffee shop was amazing and cozy especially on a rainy Chicago day. It's a good place to have meetings and also do some work since there's outlets around the store. The staff was nice and they gave good recommendations. The coffee was really good. I had the goat cheese crepe, and immediately went back and tried the teriyaki crepe. I really loved how they were able to make everything so vegan-friendly really quickly. They served the crepes perfectly - huge, and while it's on the pricey side, the quality makes it definitely worth the money. I thought the staff were also super sweet and attentive. I feel like what makes Bru special is that they literally thought of everything. Even the mismatched antique chairs and couches work with the chandeliers. Absolutely love the unique crepe concept here! We got the English breakfast crepe and it had so much flavor and the ingredients were so fresh with the tomatoes and greens too. We also got the açaí bowl and it was the perfect smoothie bowl texture with good toppings! Both are reasonably priced also. The coffee drinks are sooooo good too! Me and my girlfriend love to try new places, this winter especially we've enjoyed going to different coffee shops. For just a fun little casual date. We have walked past Bru Chicago plenty of times just because it's in a prime location in Wicker Park. My girlfriend's been before and we decided we wanted to stop by to grab some coffee and just we brought our laptops in and wanted to catch up on some work. The atmosphere there is super cozy, super cute, with very antique old-school-ish vibes which we really liked. We sat by these benches which had outlets, which was very helpful for us as we were doing remote work. However, on the bench side of our chairs, the cushion just wasn't very comfortable for long-term seating, which I am not sure if that's their goal or not to kind of get people a little bit in and out quicker. However for our purpose, we definitely wanted seating that was a little bit more up to par with catching up on work and staying for a little bit while enjoying our coffee. All in all, however, the coffee was super good. I mean it was no complaints about it at all. We'd be back just cause we're in Wicker Park often. There's tons of coffee shops to check out and I think it's definitely worth checking this place out. It's on our list. read more

The drink was very good and refreshing, not to mention fulling too because of the vegan protein which is a great pro! They do have lots of other good drink options as well as a wide variety of rice crepes (that are zabiha halal!) in a cone. We stopped by Brü after dinner next door at Kama. I was actually surprised that I had previously been here in 2016, based on my previous review. They must have changed their layout because it was a bit different that what I was describing. I don't have any recollection of being here prior though! There is ample seating. The seating decor is a bit eclectic. The space seems very big. The counter is placed in the middle of the cafe. Their menu consisted of coffees and teas, and also desserts. I ended up getting the chamomile tea, since it was later in the evening. It was a bit pricy for tea. I don't know if I'll be coming back, but I did like that they were open later. read more
