Went to Bison & Bourbon last night for a friends bday. Made reservations for 730. Got there and the gates were still down. Got seated while they were setting up. No apologies, no drink for the birthday for the inconvenience, nothing. Very unhospitable. They made a menu with language to make their prices "justifiable" instead of just making good food. My gf and I ordered their truffle fries and their boneless chicken wings appetizer. The fries were way over cooked, tossed in some breadcrumbs (no idea why), and an aoli. Nothing tasted like truffle and it was barely touched because it was inedible. How do you mess up on fries?! Now this thing they call boneless chicken wings. Cut up chicken with onions in some egg batter and fried. This thing, for one, had barely any taste, if not for the 3 sauces they provided along side. And from a flavor and health perspective, why would any restaurant make such a food?! It has so much surface area, absorbing so much oil, that the main flavor is oil! Stupid idea. Those 2 unsatisfactory items were $12 for the overfried fries and the boneless chicken wings was $22. Left $50 to take care of the tax and gratuity. Restaurants should focus on making good food, not making menus that sound fancy to charge high prices. Friend ordered their steak which was suppose to come with "bacon" and potato wedges. He got mashed potatoes and no "bacon". The waitress brought him a small tasting of the "bacon". This thing was just fried pastrami or something, with no flavor at all. No smokiness, no saltiness, not even crunchy. Was like a flavorless jerkey. We had high hopes due to so many good reviews, but we got the opposite experience. Extremely disappointing. We had an 8pm Saturday night reservation which was there opening time. Caverns but empty. Because we got there at opening the pulled beef flatbread and bbq ribs weren't ready yet. We shared the risotto, smoked pastrami, salad lyonnaise. Then ended with the peanut butter cake for dessert. At about 9pm the place started filling up; groups, families (even an occupied stroller), and a couple here and there. The music started and the place was rocking. Short version-For $90 you'd hope to get a steak cooked correctly, seasoned well, and with a decent crust. This had none of that. Not great food times, and overall a bummer. It's a pass for me. If you're not tied to Brooklyn and just want a great kosher steak go to le marais or if you are willing to splurge a bit more, reserve cut. Long version- Disappointing experience. Appetizers were solid and came out quickly,(street tacos, fried cauliflower, and crostini) waited quite some time for steaks and then about 30 minutes for a single dessert (a chocolate lava cake) Our table got several different steaks and I personally got the 25oz ribeye. Ordered medium rare and received it rare, which wasn't the end of the world for me, however someone else at the table sent theirs back after they had the same thing happen and when the got their steak back it was medium well. There was virtually no crust on the ribeye, and it was under seasoned and pretty bland. Some of the fat wasn't even rendered. Even the somewhat interesting and pretty decent steak sauce served on the side couldn't save it. I understand that running a kosher steak establishment has higher costs and this a higher price, but it doesn't cost more money to cook a steak properly. read more

First I'll mention the good things. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The manager is also very nice and reasonable. The food is prepared extremely well. Unfortunately, even though I was one of the first of my party to order dinner, I wasn't given my dinner, even after everyone else received his. I had to remind the waitress that I hadn't gotten my dinner. Then, I found the salmon to be overcooked even though I had ordered medium done. Also, the mashed potatoes were only warm, not hot. I took out the wife for her birthday, bison had ruined my experience, letting us wait for over an hour for the main course, then asking us to move to a different table and having us wait another half hour then coming to apologize that there was a glitch in the system while servicing other customers, telling us it would take another 15 minutes to make it ready, At that point I simply asked for the check and left the place, never will I step into that place again. In the summer you can sit out side at the cool front yard where there's a variety of seating areas including a 2nd floor outdoor balcony, and if it's winter and you're more in the mood of indoor then there's the big beautiful dining room where you have a choice of sitting A) at the bar (by far the most sophisticated bar out there in the kosher world) B) up in the gallery C) Main dining area. Now the second thing that you come here for is the good food! And yes I know that from what most reviewers it appears that you can't take the food into your mouth, now that's 100% wrong! Out of all the dishes that I've tried I was impressed with all of them! (one thing that most negative reviews seem to have in common is that they complain about the Steak which I didn't try so I can't attest for, but come on, if you see that all complain about their stakes you should of known what their weak spot is...) The only two down parts of this place (hence only four stars) is that it's a bit expensive (I've seen worse) and the waiting team weren't the friendliest. Came for a quick dinner with family after a show at Bell House, but even though place was closing soon, hostess did not tell us that they were closing in a few min, so we stayed. Service was good but RUSHED, we got our Entree before we finished our appetizer, and got our dessert Before we were done with Entree. Music was turned off before we were done with main course. And even though we were only a party of 3, they included 18% gratuity. Once again good was good, but we rushed. I hope next time we come, we can enjoy our meal. read more

Came here to try this place out after driving by. The atmosphere as others have expressed is excellent and is what drew us in to give it a shot. The service was friendly if not a little inexperienced or getting their footing. The hostess that sat us said they had been open for just a month but not officially open yet (this was back at the beginning of July) Hopefully everything gets better. They had an incredible amount of staff working who all looked a little unsure and new to the job. A couple of missing place settings corrected by the more experienced folks before the drinks arrived. Food was mediocre and only memorable for the wrong reasons. The steaks we all had were mediocre and seemed undersized for what was stated on the menu. As others have observed the dollop of margarine on top was unsettling. I can see how this might be a suitable place for the nice ambiance and drinks, but beyond that I'd probably avoid the food. The prices are high when compared with other similar restaurants but I suppose typical when looking at Kosher restaurants. Overall though, Kosher or not it just did not feel worth the price for any of the experience. On top of it all the automatically included gratuity of 18% was completely unexpected, I don't recall seeing that listed anywhere. At least other places have the courtesy of saying you'll get charged an 18% gratuity for parties of 6 or more etc. We were a party of 4 and I'm pretty sure regardless of party size that 18% is applicable. It's sad to see the bad reviews that were filtered out because maybe the reviewer only had one review, reading it and having experienced the same qualms it's evident that those were real experiences. I had a great experience here last night from start to finish, and I consider myself a tough critic :) Loved the ambiance; it was on par with the typical park slope/ gowanus romantic- yet-industrial dining scene. Also, it's a huge space, so it's a good choice for a large group dinner. The food... was nothing short of delicious. I can be a bit picky about kosher options, especially because I personally do not keep kosher, but Bison & Burbon really brought their A-game. Firstly, who thought to put this amazing kosher restaurant in middle of nowhere Gowanus? lol. I went for my company's holiday event and I gotta say I was impressed. I knew it had to be good to get chosen but I had no idea just how good. The restaurant is huge with a high ceilings and a pretty long bar on the ground floor. It's classy but not stuffy or pretentious. The upper dining area is more intimate and romantic than the main floor so definitely ask for seating upstairs if u go with a special someone. The staff were all amazing, attentive and paid attention to detail. The food was tasty, everything was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. I even enjoyed trying farro for the first time (just like brown rice/barley but humongous grains). Service was extremely poor! I got to the venue a bit early and the manager or whoever leave was the manager was the sweetest and allowed me to sit at the bar while they set up for dinner. Unfortunately, that is the extent of the hospitality and customer service that I received. The bartender was extremely rude and instead of treating me as a paying customer treated me like a thorn in his side. Tucked away inconspicuously between two other restaurants/bars, it doesn't seem to be that busy on weekday nights, so that was a plus in my opinion. Pretty decent and relatively swift and attentive service, I don't really have much to complain about. Although I didn't order any food, I did have a scotch on the rocks, which went down well. I was surprised to have walked in on a Tuesday night at 8:00 to a fully packed restaurant. When we sat down no less than 4 waiters asked if we wanted water. Nothing wrong with that, kinda funny and a good way to start a fabulous meal. Ordered sparking water and they brought out a warm bottle. There were also these cool bowl/whiskey glasses they were serving the water in, never seen those before. Not so functional but interesting looking. Waiter one goes to find a colder bottle, meanwhile waiter two brings us two real glasses and wonders why we were drinking out of bowls. Again, doesn't ruin dinner but the whole place seemed chaotic and unorganized. The apps we ordered were good. I had a chicken thing stuffed with something and whipped sweet potatoes. Tasty, but sweet potatoes were cold. My handsome date had the risotto which he really loved. For the main he had a 90$ steak disaster, cold mixed veggies on the side. The mixed veggies were a few zucchini sticks. The steak was a mess of fat and at least 1/2 wasn't edible. The waiter in fact asked if he wanted the rest of his dinner wrapped up, but it was inedible food. I wouldn't go back. 2 stars instead of one because the risotto was great. What a dump! We were excited to come here as this was supposed to be a new kosher hot spot. However we were really disappointed. The food was really bad. Nothing had flavor and the quality of all the meats were way below average. You can get better meat at McDonald's. We had bone marrow which was out right nasty. The chicken wings were lacking flavor. The oxtail was just really bad. Truffle fries have no truffles, they just taste like regular fries. The cowboy steak....this was the worse part of the night. This was the lowest quality of meat we ever had. Me and my guests were horrified. 90 % of the steak was fat. (See pic) It was so gross. And it tasted so bad. Service was not good either. We ordered 2 steaks to share between the 4 of us. They brought out the steaks but they did not bring us plates to eat from. We asked for plates, but no one ever brought them. After 10 minutes and our steaks getting really Cold, I literally stood up and screamed for someone to get us plates! We paid 400 dollars for a terrible meal. This is a totally piece of shit bar. Came here on the Saturday night before Halloween already a little buzzed and the waitress completely took advantage of us. It was on 10/28/2017. No wonder this place has f-ing four $$$$ signs-- they steal from your ass. After the bill was probably 4 X what it should be our friend asked if he could see a receipt instead of just continually accusing her of the obvious (she stole from him). The bartender finally showed the receipt which was proof that we got over charged and were taken advantage of like we were idiots. So I have been going to this restaurant for years- pretty much since they opened. Food was always consistently delicious. I mean I kept coming back so you know it was good! I was there in October of 2019 and noticed changes to the menu And many of my favorite Dishes were no longer there. But what really upset me was the food tasted different and it was at best mediocre. It seems they have a new chef. I went again last night to give it another try. Very very disappointed. The maple glazed bacon was some chewy dry roast beef (an appetizer for 26 bucks!) The burger was tiny and not fresh and theY forgot to add the portabella mushroom. The French fries which were 16 bucks were soggy ! When I inquired I was told they re is a new owner now. And the chef is part of ownership! The prices have risen dramatically. I don't mind one paying for great food. I do mind paying for bad food! B&B is a dope hipsidic steakhouse bar and restaurant located in the Gowanus / South Slope area of Brooklyn. Came here on a Thursday evening with some friends and I was blown away by the restaurant. It is an amazing space which is just too cool to be kosher. Not to mention it was jam packed. We started with drinks and we all decided to get the red sangria. It was pretty good and gave us a nice little buzz. We started the meal with the pulled beef flatbread as well as the Thai chicken flatbread...Both were very good! We also got the chicken wings and really enjoyed them. I got the B&B Burger for my main and it was delicious. The truffle aioli on the burger was superb.
