This is a good bar with a great photo booth and pinball games. Every single time has been a good time, and even after 3 am, the bartenders are nice and courteous. This is a great stop when you've left Bossa Nova. Birdy's can be crowded, but like I said, it's a good bar. Stay golden. read more

The Owner Likes To Harass Black People A friend of mine ordered two beers and shot, but realizes too late that she only has 1 buck for a tip. Oh well. Not her finest hour, though she offered to charge despite it being a cash only bar (which, like, it's 2015, dude, stop cheating your taxes). The owner of the joint, some young German-flag bomber jacket wearing guy, start harassing her at the bar, but she removes herself. This is the insane part: He follows her across the bar and ~continues~ to harass her, this time opening up his tantrum onto me and my partner, the two people sitting with her. Finally, he tells us he's not throwing us out, though we should leave. BUT THEN: he looks my partner up and down, the only WHITE person among us, and says "you're probably fine." When I and the other black person involved--the only two black people in the bar, as it turns out--had tried to deescalate the situation, it was the white guy he chose to leave alone. I've heard anecdotally that this has happened to A LOT of black people at this bar. Don't come here, unless your the sort of person who the owner seems to be keeping this place for, the sort of person who scares when then there's a little extra melanin around. read more

Ambiance: I was there around 8 on a Friday and it was crowded but not packed. The bar offers a few pretty large spaces with plenty of tables to sit and talk. It seemed to be mostly twenty-something people that work in the city but live in the area--dress code was not corporate but tattoos and piercings were limited. The one bartender there when we came in was very friendly and attentive even as he tried to watch the World Series game that was on at the time. I don't know how the $7 cocktails work. Does the price only apply to the ones on the menu or any cocktail? Anyhow, we ended up grabbing a few beers. Decent selection. I come here regularly and I love it! Staff is really cool and the happy hour is bomb. Cocktails are always good, I especially love the Chelsea side car. Last weekend, I was at Birdy's for the first time - on a trip to new York. The evening progressed well - as others have noted, the drinks were cheap, the ambience felt great, and I was having fun with my friends. I was sitting at the bar when last call came: I paused my conversation, turned to the bar and waited with my hand a little raised to get the bartender's attention. The guy - who'd served me twice before - looks at me and says: : Don't raise your hand. That's stupid. I immediately apologize thinking he found it offensive, and explained i was only trying to not miss last call. : You're not gonna miss it, you'll just have to hold tight. Don't raise your hand. In a couple of minutes he asks what I want, and promptly proceeds to say he has no more gin or whiskey. Super confused at this point, he reiterates- I'm just messing with you. Just don't raise your hand, that's stupid. After I'm served my drink I pay my $6, no tip. He looks at that, looks back up and says, "but you're going to have to leave the bar now" I respond, "do I?" Thinking this, too, might be a joke. He says, "you don't tip, you don't sit at the bar. Fuck off" That's my only experience at Birdy's. I've rarely withheld tips from anyone - everyone has a bad day sometimes and it was late at night - but this left a distinctly bad taste in my mouth. Did my south Asian skin tone and less than average age of patrons have anything to do with this? We'll never know, but I was deeply hurt and humiliated. by this behavior. read more

YES! This place rules. Now that my favorite bar in Bushwick got shut down by the assheads who own the "Whiskey Brooklyn" franchise, I've been looking for a replacement. Birdy's is the shit. Great bartenders, super personable, lots of space, both at the bar and plenty of benches. The back has three pinball machines, which I approve of. The lighting is cool and low, but not too low. Definitely get to this place- whoever owns it obviously cares about what makes a good bar great. And doesn't hurt that it's a Mets bar. The place has a tv, but tastefully, it's never on, except I imagine when something unmissable is happening. I really like this bar. Good job, guys!!!! read more

My seat was adequately stable. The beer was exactly as advertised. I felt that at 4:26 on a Saturday afternoon I was sitting in the engine room of a finely tuned machine. The bartender has gentle eyes and strong hands. Out of politeness I initially refused his embrace. On second offer I accepted and I immediately found myself on a magic carpet ride to all the things my parents never gave me and the world took away from me. I am complete. Oh- the microwaved chicken patty sandwich was really good. I'm completely serious - perfect little snack at the right price. I totally recommend it. And the bartender was totally cool, left me alone in a good way but was still friendly. I like that in a barman. read more
