They have great pizza and it's a cool atmosphere. My main complaint is there ordering system. Everything is done on your phone. When you order, you pay immediately and can't start a tab. So if you order a round of drinks, you pay. If you order apps, you pay, then pizza, you pay, and another round of drinks you pay. By the time we were done, I had 5 different charges on my credit card. There has to be a better way to do this. Also, if you want a cocktail, you have to choose what's on the menu. I asked the person who delivered our food if I could order just a gin and tonic, and he said we had to choose from the menu. read more

So I came into the restaurant with my friend around 430 and overheard another customer stating that they no longer wanted their pizza as it took too long when the food came out. We ordered our pizza. It took so long my friend had to leave at 520. Then after 5 a table that was there before us who had a child in a wheelchair was asked to leave as they technically close at 5. I got my first pizza around 530. I waited for my second and never got it so checked in around 545. They forgot my pizza and stated they would comp it. Then when they brought the pizza out st 6 she was like we are closed. I was like I would like to eat my pizza here while you clean up. She then Proceeded to tell her go workers that I should pay for it. She also came back and gave me attitude to leave I told her I was still eating. Then when I left and asked to use the bathroom the staff were saying G that I was horrible. This may be why the large restaurant was mostly empty on a Saturday even though the pizza was delicious. I have worked at restaurants before and if someone comes in before you close you let them finish. Especially if you messed up and forgot their order. I left without my left overs even though it was tasty because that particular staff left such a bad experience for me. The first server was professional. read more

In the past, I have enjoyed the BirchTree Bread Company. This has changed in the last three times I have gone there. Each time I have had undercooked pastry. This time it was the cinnamon rolls. They cost $5.00 each, and were large and impressive. The cashier packaged them beautifully, and it was wonderful to unbox them. But the main point of a pastry is eating, which was a dismal experience. The bottom half of the pastry was dense and doughy, with no yeast action evident at all. The outer edges and the top were cooked thoroughly, but they were unfortunately attached to the bottom. This wasn't the only cooking failure. I specifically avoided the scones. They were fairly flat, and the center of each of them even dipped down! I feel sorry for anyone eating those. This experience was similar to the last two times I was there, and I may be at the point of giving up on hoping for those wonderful early days of amazing pastries. I stopped by here for brunch on a Sunday morning and it was pretty crowded. What I really enjoyed was the live music which added to the ambiance. The place has a rustic vibe and is essentially self service. Once seated, you scan a QR code to order and pay which I found convenient. Additionally, you have to pick up any silverware, condiments, and water from a side table and bring it over to your table yourself. For drinks, I tried the spicy honey or hot honey latte which was something I haven't come across before so I was curious. The latte was good and the hot honey flavor definitely came across through the drink. It was unique but probably not something I would try again because I prefer my lattes to be sweet. We ordered a ham, egg, and cheese sandwich, veggie breakfast sandwich, and the truffle parmesan home fries. The flavor of the truffle parmesan fries was delicious but some of the potato wedges were undercooked in the center which took away from the dish for me. Both sandwiches were typical egg sandwiches but could have been seasoned better although the whipped feta on the veggie sandwich was a very nice texture. I ended up adding some hot sauce to add to the flavor. However, the bread on both sandwiches was fantastic (probably should have anticipated this since it is a bread company). So cute, so charming, amazing atmosphere. I really like the feel of this place. Upon first look, it seems like a cafe, but then you notice the diverse menu and beer/wine/drink list. I saw some amazing looking burgers being delivered to other tables and some pretty tasty looking grilled cheese. I had a Olive and Feta toast- really good bread and super creamy feta. Really enjoyable with my warm apple cider drink. I visited on a Sunday and was very disappointed that they closed at 3pm on Sunday. However, it was still pretty busy at that time. If I was in the area, I would definitely go back and try one of there specialty drinks and maybe a give a burger a go. read more

Can definitely fill up fast on weekends and prime times so be sure to be there early to secure a seat. Some of my favs are the sweet bread pudding (menu changes so keep an out), London fog tea latte and the almond croissant. If you're of the 21+ variety, they have a great selection of drinks. Have always enjoyed the choices and tasty food but not today. Veggie breakfast sandwich - egg was much smaller than the roll and the egg was burned. Spinach on sandwich made the bread soggy. Wasted $9 as it was not edible. Cherry muffin was dry and contained no cherries. (Was it the correct muffin?) Cookie was hard and overpriced. Cinnamon roll was large and fine. As always, triple berry toast was tasty and the best. Two of five purchases were good and cost $31 so we will spend our money elsewhere in the future. read more

We wanted to check out farmers market in Worcester which was disappointing but I'm glad we went there since we found this restaurant! Atmosphere (4.5/5): Very busy and a long line. They were playing some good country music live and it was good for a country style brunch. Didn't have to wait to get a seat but had to wait in line for 20 minutes to order food. Service is not really applicable here since it's more like deli style where you order food and they bring it to you if you have number plate on your table. Not much of wait for food which is always good. Food (4.5/5): Their whipped feta is a must try. Ordered egg sandwich and quiche which were okay. Their bread is definitely top notch! The new host/seating process is annoying. Waited ten minutes for a table for 2. A bunch of parties were waiting despite tables being open, creating a crowd. They ending up seating us at a counter spot that had been open since we walked in. This spot was where they kept napkins, plates, silverware, and we were on top of the customers next to us. Silverware/plates/napkins should not be placed on a table where you plan to sit customers. There were other open counter spots that were less crowded. Once you get sat you then have to get in line to order. Waited 20 minutes for two sandwiches. Not worth it. Enjoyed the previous birch tree vibes before crust taking over. This is definitely my go to place for finding delicious and different kind of breads. A little bit on the pricey side but it's totally worth the money. I even tried salmon toast and wasn't big fan of the cured salmon taste and was expecting a little more fresh taste to it but the vegetable sandwich made up for it! Environment/Staff: I find it difficult to order drinks/coffee because I can never find their menu flavors anywhere. I'll ask the staff what kind of flavors they have for lattes/coffee...and they say "basically everything" and maybe list 1-3. That's nice and all, but I like physically see what they have to offer instead of picking one at the top of my head. I've also asked for flavors that they don't have, so hmmm. Anyways, the staff are pretty pleasant and try to be fast/efficient. The environment is rustic and chill (a place where people go to so hw or have casual meetings). Coffee/Drinks: I usually get some sort of latte (chai ). Honestly, one of the best flavors/consistency. Can't be denied. Turkey Bacon Sandwich: The first time I ate this, it tasted like heaven, especially with the jam they put inside. The only complaint I had would be how hard the crust was. It hurt my jaw...it was so hard. But other than that, flavor and ingredients were basically perfect. I love the side of apples it came with. This place is my dream: bread, bread, bread. And more bread. BirchTree has a emphasis on delicious, different breads...focaccia, breads stuffed with olives, challah, sourdough. And they're GOOD at it. I ordered the herb and olive toast, which was slathered with whipped feta and olive oil. It was luxurious and inexpensive. NOT the same place since the original owners sold! It saddens me to write this review. My last review for Birch was 2016; I easily gave it 5 stars. Birch was my spot at least once a week, though often I would go 2-3 times a week. The food was fabulous, and though priced a bit high, it was worth every penny. There was the usual menu, but then wonderful and creative toast, soup, sandwich, and entree specials. Everything was so tasty and fresh that I often had trouble deciding what to choose from the menu. The food never disappointed, and the bakery counter was always a temptation with different delicious sweets. The staff were friendly, helpful, and more than competent. Finally, the atmosphere was great and sometimes I would just grab a latte, pick a table, and open my laptop to get a bit of work done for an hour or two. All of that is sadly gone. Not only are the prices completely out of control (even by inflation standards), but the food is mediocre at best. It's honestly hit or miss, and the dishes taste differently depending on who's in the kitchen that day. Sometimes the BBQ pizza has overcooked thin crust, too much sauce, and 6 huge chunks of kitchen that the cook couldn't be bothered to cut, and other times the same pizza is thick undercooked crust, very little sauce, and too much cheese. The sausage and fennel pizza has very little sausage and the crust also varies. It's the same for the other food there--everything is hit or miss. Quiche is sometimes hard and dry, salads have very little toppings, and the bread on sandwiches doesn't always seem fresh. They charge too much for food that never rises above mediocre and sometimes hovers around bleh. At first I thought it was just an off day, but I kept trying for months and it hasn't been any better. I'm finally done. In short, prices are way up, and the food quality is down and inconsistent. I feel as if the new owners ruined a great place. read more

Very busy. Set up is confusing. As a first time guest, I walked in and wasn't sure what to do. There was a counter to order at but only beverages listed on the menu above and I had seen food online. Tables were dirty and all had numbers on them which made me think that people had ordered and been given numbers. We finally figured out that if you are dining in you sit at a table and scan a QR code to order and get menu. We had to bus and clean the previous patrons dirty dishes ( supposed to clean after yourself) I was looking forward to trying the pizza or sandwiches but there was a brunch menu instead of what is posted on line. My quiche Lorraine was a large portion but dried out and flavorless. My friend's spinach and feta quiche was dried out as well. The toast accompaniment was dry hard and tasteless. We didn't eat much. My daughter enjoyed her tomato soup except there was a lot of olive oil on the top. She liked the focaccia bread. Coffee was a bitter and didn't taste like the flavors we ordered at all. They request a tip when you order which we gave but we cleaned our own table and got our own silverware napkins etc. we didn't even order with a person. read more

I had an awful experience here stopping for lunch with my mom! I had gone here before a while back and I remember the food and service were pretty good. Though coming back, I was sorely mistaken. We ordered grilled cheese with fries on the side, and a butternut bisque soup to split. We were super excited to eat. When the food was given to us, I noticed my soup didn't have a spoon. I looked at the waiter and asked if I could get one, he looked at me sort of confused as to how I should know that I needed to get my own. Before, I was given silverware and was checked in on after being served. This also didn't happen. The grilled cheese was pretty good, but the fries were completely burnt to a crisp. We look over and another lady has nice yellow fries and ours are orange/black. The soup had an awfully strange after taste and overall seemed watered down. The meal just overall not a great experience. We are usually not the type to say anything, but this was a poor dining and service experience, when we found a staff member, we told her of our situation and she said she would get her manager. She comes back about 15 minutes later after we are twiddling our thumbs and says "My manager said we can offer you a free loaf of bread or we can comp your meal." UMMMM... he's not even professional enough to talk to his customers? It was extremely inappropriate, and obviously we wanted our meal comped after those choices. Afterwards, annoyed that we had paid prior for this shitty experience and that we tipped when there was no waiting service, I found this manager after doing some of my own research online. I saw him standing behind the counter. I told him that we needed our meal comped as he didn't take the time to come find us, and told him it was very odd that he couldn't take the time to come to our table and take care of his customers, and he rolled his eyes and sipped his coffee. When I mentioned how there was poor service, all he said was "there are no waiters here" and didn't apologize. Then he tried to ask what wasn't good and just take off a portion. He saw how unpleased my face was and I told him nothing was enjoyable about our experience, and I certainly do not see why there should be a tip for anything. Unreal. Do not recommend. I have been to Birch Tree Bread Conpany multiple times now. The ambiance is rustic and chic. However the over all atmosphere tends to be loud. The style of this restaurant is an order at the counter and delivered to your table type. The coffee, latte, and tea selection is large, and everything I have ordered had come hot and extremely delicious. I have had their London fog, a mocha latte, and almond joy latte. They have all been exceptional. I have had both breakfast and lunch there and have never left hungry or disappointed. For breakfast I have had the sweet crepe which has banana and Nutella. I have had a ham and cheese croissant which was rich and delicious. And lastly have had a breakfast sandwich with eggs and Gruyère cheese, which was amazingly. All of there bread is freshly made in house. The service is efficient and prompt. There is sometimes a bit of a wait based on the large volume of people. We went Mother's Day ( extremely crowded)and it was a 45 minute wait in line to order and pay, plus about a 25 minute wait for food. Overall, prices are very reasonable! Another perk is on weekends there is always live music! The only reason I deducted a star is for the noise level. read more

I have been here for exactly 2 hours with my computer. I have had no less than three employees come up to me regarding my sitting down and "not eating". I get it if they need the space and I was not a paying customer, but that is not the situation here. Since I have been here I bought many items including a london fog, lentil soup, bread pudding and more. I am even posting a picture of my third purchase today. This is probably the rudest and most unfriendly coffee place I have ever been too. Obviously you don't want my business. Hmm... I didn't have a good experience as I had anticipated... I have always wanted to try this place for a long while but never really got to it until today. Clearly, it's a very popular place and well known in Worcester. To go straight to it, everything was going fine until my friend and I both took a bite of their Smoked Salmon Toast... Boy, that was the worst smoked salmon/lox I've ever had! It was absolutely grotesque because the salmon was incredibly fishy! It definitely had a funky fishy odor which didn't set off a red flag just yet so it was manageable until I actually bit into the thick slice of fish, is when we both decided something was really off... I'm a big fan of lox on a bagel, on toast, in a crepe, salad, and I can handle my sashimi well, but this smoked salmon was unfortunately rancid and it essentially ruined the experience. We both managed the first bite down but the second bite, I had to spit out, which I never do, because I was literally gagging due to the foul fishy taste and odor in my mouth. It's very unfortunate.. Another disappointment was their Seed Levain toast with blueberry and cream cheese. The toast was so thick and hard, it scratched up my gums and had empty flavor. Their cappuccino was fantastic though, it definitely helped rid the taste of fish. We notified the runner and he had mentioned they sold many smoked salmon toasts today, apologized, and offered free treats but we declined. I'm not going to hold it against them, I'm just never going to order that again. I love the vibe and the space, and I'm sure their sandwiches, soups, and salads would be worth trying so I'd certainly be up for coming back. The lines though... and the food actually took a while to come out and also the hassle of parking.. Just beware of the salmon! Which indeed had sent me straight back in to go to the toilet after a round of browsing inside Seed To Stem. For that reason, it's a two star for me until next time. read more

I want to love this place. The vibe and atmosphere is what Worcester needs. I came here last Sunday after passing it dozens of times while passing through the engineering fiasco known as Kelly Square. I was with my sister and my partner. Finding the entrance was tricky, but it was a pleasant surprise once we did. The walkway to the cafe featured small shops and a Blackstone Canal museum, which I didn't even know existed. The coffee shop itself was packed. Huge line, people everywhere, and a band too. Mind you, it was around noontime. The food was very good. My partner had a turkey sandwich of some kind, while my sister and I had breakfast sandwiches on a bagel. We also had chai latte and Irish coffees among us. But all that was $50 - I think I was a little surprised. I know it's local and it's a coffee shop, but nearly $17 each for seat yourself, to go style food does seem high. I know we had alcohol in two of our drinks, but still seems high. Also, it is seat yourself. That is okay, but being so busy, it's a bit intimidating. The table we finally did find was not clean. Overall, I do like it. But I want to love it. I hope it improves over time, but it is certainly a vibrant addition to Worcester. read more
