What a great place - They are bringing back the true food. Lots of local produce- organic wheat for the bread. They sell items from local vendors. They display local artists painting and photos. Talk about getting back to local!!! they have local performers to entertain. And on Saturday- Farmers Market on Saturdays downstairs. In my opinion- Local is better. Love the atmosphere here! Have been going here ever since it opened! Our server was super sweet today because I forgot to order something and she brought it to me anyway. I got the bacon & cheddar croissant which was delicious- just add a runny egg and voila! Their Parmesan truffle potatoes are so yummy. Their breakfast sandwiches are yummy too! Went for the first time with a friend for lunch. I wasn't completely surprised by how pricey the food was because I'd already read reviews saying how great the food was. What I was surprised about was the fact that: 1. If you ordered more than 2 dishes...there's no room for any plates or other food items at a tiny 2 person table. You also can't just pull the empty table next to you over so that all your food (2 pizzas - maybe 8", full salad, 2 plates & 2 glasses of water - you get yourself) fit. We were chastised by "waitresses" eventho we told them we needed more room. 3. No one brings you plates. I asked the guy who brought the first pizza & salad for plates & he said he'd bring them back. I later learned from another "waitress" when they brought us to a bigger table, "you can just take them from where ever you see them, here, there's some at the end of this table right here, you can have these"...as she takes them without asking the other guests who are eating their meals. HOW do you just take plates from someone else's table & give them to other guess?!?? I have NO IDEA who may've touched those plates with nasty hands OR had an allergen on them!!! 4. When each person orders their food, it doesn't all come out together. Had I known mine would be out first & there'd a 10+ mins lag for my friend, we would've put everything on 1 order. 5. We had to get our own to go containers. 6. When we stood up to leave, the "waitress" come over & asked "do you know where the trash was?" My friend said yes...so we cleared our own table. She never bothered to ask if everything was ok. 7. My tip didn't bankrupt me, however, had I known all this BEFORE when I placed & prepaid for my order including a hefty tip...I would've either based my tip on the entire experience & if I decided to, I would've left the cash on the table or at the register upon leaving. Knowing what I know now, I'd return in spite of this being a weird first experience because the food was good. Also, unless I'm going to be in the area for something else, there's no chance I'd waste so much time being stuck in traffic around there & then trying to find parking. This place continues to deliver times after time. I have been coming here for years and every time I have never been disappointed. The location is really good, and the ambiance has a charm. Overall this gets a 5/5. The staff is always extremely friendly and helpful, and they always look like they are in a good mood. Customer service gets a 5/5. I believe they get their coffee from acoustic java, and it never disappointed me. It's not the best coffee I had, but it does have superior quality. Coffee gets a 5/5. Their bakery selection is a little pricey, but they never stop delivering on quality and freshness this gets a 5/5. . All of the food and drinks that they have are also awesome. The plus of this place is that their is live music some days in the week. Which really sets the mood. We had a late lunch there while on a road trip. The easy access from the highway was the first plus. We ordered sandwiches with fries and they were large servings. We could easily have shared. I love love love this place! Love their breads and pastries. They have saved me during their special pick up meals during the holidays. I hosted an Easter brunch and they made every dish from quiches to salads to pastries to dessert. I even got a lamb cassoulet one time as a main course. All I had to do was reheat. Easy curb pick up. I love this place but I walked in a with a friend at 4pm when they close at 5 and received some of the worst attitude from staff when we were having a hard time with their toast app on our phones. Working in the service industry, I couldn't have been more frustrated that someone was annoyed to help take our order in person than over the app. We walked out. So sad. The Food was great and i love the atmosphere! Staff is pretty nice, they're very strict with covid still (writing in late april) which could be seen as a good thing but just keep in mind that there's little contact with the staff (u order on your phone). I don't love the time restriction on the tables, u get an hour and a half to eat (which is fair but doesn't make for a great place to do work/ online classes). This hipster/slacker/hippie (hip to be square) enclave is a bit bizarre. Big open space w a bar but you have to order at the counter and the last time we tried to call ahead for a brekkie sammich we were told it was 30-45 min wait. The travesty is that the croissant was off the Richter scale good. Like scary good. But why oh why can't you simply add a nice fried egg? Why a nuked/flavorless/this is clearly not a real egg? This place is a hidden gem! Being a chefs wife, I'm not that easy to impress. In most cases, food is just food. The BirchTree exceeded my expectations! I've only tried a few bloody Mary's in my day and wasn't all that impressed but this is a whole different category of enticement! You can literally taste all of the flavors with each delectable sip! I also had the Spicy Tomato Bisque with the French Onion Grilled Cheese. I swear, I was in heaven! It was absolutely divine! The bisque was smooth and creamy, with a spicy kick! Some tomato bisque's fall flat as in flavorless, but this was out of this world! The French Onion Grilled Cheese was grilled to perfection... caramelized, onions, and Gruyere cheese... it was absolutely perfect for a cool, rainy day! I went back for a second time before I had to return to South Carolina and again I had the spicy, bloody Mary and the spicy tomato bisque, because I was just so in love with those flavors that just explode in your mouth! This time I had shared the margarita pizza with my daughter. Once again, I was not disappointed! Fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, and the crust is simply perfect! The experience was almost completely contactless- scan a QR code, order and pay upfront on their site and a staff member brings it out to you. This is the #1 spot I bring friends visiting Worcester. The location could not be better (although parking does get dicey sometimes) with really cute shops to browse downstairs like Seed and Stem and the Crompton Collective. The one thing I will say is this place is a little pricey for Worcester, with prices akin to what I would pay for a gourmet sandwich in DC or Boston. Still, I really appreciate their vegetarian/vegan (just ask for no feta cheese!) sandwich option which is SO SO good. OMG! I'm in Worcester for a week or so working and I love to find new places when I'm on the road. I was off to a late start this morning as my work is in the evening and wanted somewhere to grab a bite while I was out for errands. I stumbled across this place on yelp and decided to drive over on my way back. Everything about it was amazing! The atmosphere is on point! It's located on a quieter road with a ton of restaurants and other fun little haunts. It just felt so cozy with its wooden chairs, leather booths, and the cute bar that connected to the register area. I got a grilled ham and cheese and was pleasantly surprised when it came with honey mustard and a sweet pickle on the house made bread (I mean it is a bakery come on now) I also grabbed an iced maple latte and it was perfectly creamy and exactly the caffeine hit I needed. I grabbed an almond croissant for tomorrow but I have a feeling I'lll go back at some point this week. I love the seat yourself easy going vibes of the place and the staff was so kind! They were playing the best music and you could tell they not only enjoyed working there but they seemed to enjoy each others company too! love love loved it! Everything was good here - the menu options, the environment, the little gourmet items for purchase. I would have given it a 5, except the time from ordering to getting our food seemed too long. The spread on the toast is extremely generous (so generous that I actually had to scrap some off, but to each their own). The seeded levain had an awesome crunch and grainy taste without being too much. The lemon blueberry cream cheese spread balanced it out very nicely. The sandwich was surprisingly really filling and the brioche bun was light in density while being really crunchy, it was awesome! The service was fast and friendly. The menu is modern and eclectic. Not my personal favorite. I had the turkey bacon sandwich which was filling and very tasty. We had cookies for dessert, which left something to be desired, particularly the choc/peanut butter cookie. The atmosphere was very loud. There was a great jazz band playing so no offense to them, but you cannot have a conversation while live music is playing. The acoustics of the large open style restaurant make that impossible. So I came into the restaurant with my friend around 430 and overheard another customer stating that they no longer wanted their pizza as it took too long when the food came out. We ordered our pizza. It took so long my friend had to leave at 520. Then after 5 a table that was there before us who had a child in a wheelchair was asked to leave as they technically close at 5. I got my first pizza around 530. I waited for my second and never got it so checked in around 545. They forgot my pizza and stated they would comp it. Then when they brought the pizza out st 6 she was like we are closed. I was like I would like to eat my pizza here while you clean up. She then Proceeded to tell her go workers that I should pay for it. She also came back and gave me attitude to leave I told her I was still eating. Then when I left and asked to use the bathroom the staff were saying G that I was horrible. This may be why the large restaurant was mostly empty on a Saturday even though the pizza was delicious. I have worked at restaurants before and if someone comes in before you close you let them finish. Especially if you messed up and forgot their order. I left without my left overs even though it was tasty because that particular staff left such a bad experience for me. The first server was professional. read more
