i have been here a few times, the food is okay, but then I'm not a burrito fan. I ordered a pork quesadilla. I got a burrito stuffed with rice and beans. When I told the waiter (the only bar and food waiter for the entire top area on a busy saturday night), he tried to tell me they didn't have quesadillas on the menu. Or pork for that matter. He refused to get me what I ordered off the menu, and I was charged more for the over priced medium sized burrito. Three of my grown kids and I descended on Bimbo's for boardgame fun on Christmas eve. Fortunately for us, our waiter did not have the Capitol Hill disease that some of the baristas, waiters, etc., have on the Hill - you know, aloofitis, where they're so busy being "hip" that they're arrogant and inattentive? Mike was a real sweetheart, and helped to make our hours there (uh, yeah, there were several of them) memorable. Food was excellent. We chose from the Happy Hour menu, which was available, to our surprise. Great prices, good food. And, heads up: Mike's a hell of a word man. I like going to Bimbo's just for the kitschy decor. The food isn't out of this world, but it's tasty, filling, and reasonably priced. Yes, we joke about the impassive waitstaff, but they do their jobs. The service is quick and reliable. Bimbo's also gets points for being vegan-friendly. Not only will they veganize their menu items, but the specials are often vegan, and the waiters will let me know if something's got dairy in it (the potatoes have cheese in them, and the horchata has skim milk (which, wtf?)). Apparently Bimbo's is not long for this world; it's getting replaced by condos, along with several other businesses along that stretch of Pine. I hit Bimbo's whenever I'm Seattle and honestly I don't think I've ever had a bad time there. Mexican food and a cool atmosphere, open late, right smack dab in the middle of capital hill - how can you go wrong? One night we were eating at Bimbo's, super drunk as usual, and I stuck my business card under one of the glass tabletops. About three months later, it's night time and I'm on this remote beach way down in Baja, way out in the middle of nowhere. Somehow my cell phone got a signal and it started ringing - when I picked up it was some drunk chick sitting at that table at Bimbo's telling me that I didn't know her but she loved me. This place is pretty cool. I hung out there yesterday and had some drinks and chow with friends. I had the chicken tacos w/cabbage which were pretty freakin awesome. I would say that the Mexican rice was a little dry, but i can over look that. My friends had the nachos which were good. Spicy but tasty. They had a decent happy hour but one of the best things about this spot was the random 80's new wave music. I'm a fan of the downstairs bar, but apparently that deserves a 2nd review at a later point. Recently visited and had some food. Glad to see they have a variety of vegan options. Also surprised to find that they have happy hour from 4-8 pm every day of the week. Its so rare to find place you can get some cheaper drinks on a Friday or Saturday night. I enjoyed quite a few margaritas. Next time I will have to take advantage of some of the food specials. Many of the drinks on the drink menu sounded enticing as well. Service was excellent and it wasn't even hard to find a place to sit. Whenever I walk by this place looks very crowded but perhaps the tables hidden out of view are empty. There is lots of stuff to look at on the walls here, its quite decorative. I would definitely come here more often if parking was easier. Yes, the service is terrible. The waiters are surly. This is their gimmick, people - it's what Bimbo's is KNOWN for, so you have to expect it. But seriously. You must listen to me. Come here for one reason, and one reason only: burritos with garlic mashed potatoes and cumin-lime sour cream. Trust me. Go get one immediately. What Bimbo's does well: FOOD. I was a bit skeptical at first - Mexican food, in hipster town, served by primarily white folks - but they make a tasty burrito! I'm also a fan of the Stoner Nachos. The decour is fun as well. The beer is... beer, so no complaints there either. The only drawback to Bimbo's is how typical the service is for the Cap Hill neighborhood. If this is your first visit to the resturaunt, don't expect any warmth from the bartenders, servers, or anybody employed at the establishment. After a second or third visit you might get a greeting or friendly gesture. But this is Capitol Hill. Customer service (apparently) has to be earned. read more

This place seems like the definition of three stars to me. Nothing special but not a let down either. I met friends here for drinks after I already had eaten so I can't speak to the quality of the food other than to say that the idea of using Doritos for nachos is a pretty brilliant idea. My friends seemed to enjoy their food so take that for what it's worth, I just had a couple Dos Equis. Our server was sufficiently nice and attentive; she actually split the bill for us without needing to be asked, which was nice. Sounds like service is kind of hit or miss sometimes but we lucked out apparently. This rating is primarily based on the delivery service, although the food seems to suffer because of their poor delivery capabilities... The first time I ordered, it took over 2 hours. Thankfully, they remade the food before they finally brought it so it was still pretty good. The second time, no issues, good food. The third time, they couldn't take my delivery order because their "fax machine wasn't working." I still don't understand what that has to do with a phone order, but ok. The fourth time they couldn't take my delivery order because they were "slammed." Ok, I guess that's preferable to waiting 2 hours again, but why offer the service if you can't keep up with it? The fifth and last time I ordered, the delivery person called me to have me come meet them on the street rather than bring the food to my door like every other delivery place does. He said it was because he had too many deliveries. Got the food and it was nearly cold, and had been sitting so long that the tortilla for my burrito was like raw dough. They left out the cheese, gave me the wrong kind of beans, and the meat was dry and terrible. I may try them one more time, but I'll go to the restaurant. "Blue Panter" is my favorite - though I spent a long time in the bathroom looking at the walls, deciding. I dig this place. I really like the interior, with the crazy curtains, luchadores everywhere, a thousand bottle caps nailed to the walls in creative ways, red light bulbs, etc. etc. etc. Very colorful - maybe not authentic Mexican, as is the case with the food, but that doesn't make either less enjoyable. It's very centrally located in Cap Hill, so it makes a convenient and quick dinner/study break from Caffe Vita et al. for me, but could also be a good way to manage blood alcohol content for others. Happy hour food-wise is $1 off large nachos (not all that great, obviously) and sometimes a daily thing, but it's not all that expensive anyway, and it's a lot of food. Good taste in music, too. When I lived in Seattle, I probably ate at Bimbo's once a week. Their veggie burritos are the best I've ever had. Potatoes, creamy dressing, sunflower seeds? It's amazing. I've never found anything like it outside of Seattle. The kitchen is now a cantina -- in Seattle, you can't serve liquor unless you serve food -- so you can get a margarita with your Mexican. I agree with other reviewers that the service is generally a bit slow and chaotic, the servers can be snotty yes, but the to go service is great. If you're in a hurry, order to go. Otherwise, sit down, enjoy the outrageous decor (it's like one of those kiddie rides at Disneyland, all neon velvet paintings and gaudy decorations), order a pitcher of margaritas and relax. I hear they are moving, can't say I'll miss the velvet paintings if they get lost in the move, but as long as they still have the tasty No-Meato Burrito I will be a happy camper. My communist vegetarian roommate and I can split one (in good communist fashion) and both come out pleasantly full. They are big. Not like Gorditos big, but quite large nonetheless. UPDATE: Their new location is even BETTER! More elbow room, yay! The sangria is ho-hum, but the burritos are as satisfying as ever. EDIT: I went there the other night after picking a friend up from the airport, and their service was horrible. We came in, sat down, and asked the waitress if they were still serving food. She replied, "The kitchen closes at midnight." We said, "It's 11:50, are you still serving then?" And her reply was this snarl and, "You're not REALLY going to be THAT JERK, are you?" I never, ever liked black olives - that is, until I had the chicken supreme burrito from Bimbo's. There's something about them in that burrito that...seems so right. Sunflower seeds too? Awesome. So yeah, it's not the most amazing burrito in the world, but if it can make me like black olives, then it must be doing something right. Granted, this review is really of the old version of Bimbo's. I went there pretty much bi-weekly for lunch time burritos, so good and big that they ended up as burritos that took care of lunch and dinner at the same time. I liked the spazz-out colorful decor and the sometimes surly / sometimes lovely service. I was sad when I heard they had to move - but glad that they weren't just closing. I've been to the "new" Bimbo's once. Not that it matters to me, but now you have to be 21 to go in, as the entrance to the Cha Cha is technically inside Bimbo's doors. The decor is a little more grown-up, though I'm not quite sure why I say that because it's still a Mexico-luchador explosion. Maybe there's less color? The bar is now a prominent feature, and I like that they have booths. My chicken supreme burrito tasted the same to me - so no complaints there. I think Bimbo's has a fun atmosphere, a good, albeit younger crowd, good prices and good music. There are some reviews about the music being pretty loud and it, so you have to be in the mood for it. I'm not very impressed by the service. As a matter of fact, I think it's pretty bad. The wait-staff includes mostly pretentious emo kids (in contrast to cool emo kids, there is a difference) that are a bit full of themselves, and I believe it is this that causes them to be so slow. If that's not the reason, the service is still slow, and not that friendly. Sometimes they gang up with the Cha Cha people to swear and harass the customers that don't leave by 1:44 am. The burritos are big but slightly bland, except maybe if they were wet, I haven't had them that way yet. I'll continue to visit occasionally for the atmosphere and beer. read more

I don't know much. In fact.. It could be said that I know a tremendous amount about precious little. But I know burritos. I grew up in L.A. In Los Angeles, burritos grow like weeds - springing forth with dreams of mad consumption - from betwixt the concrete cracks. Well maybe not figuratively, but literally... But these burritos at Bimbo's are great. Finding a good burrito is a rare thing in the NorthWest. I think you could safely say that Mexican Food in the NorthWest is generally asstastic. No one was more surprised than I to find a great, dependable, and filling burrito in Seattle - let alone in Capitol Hill. Sweet, fresh ingredients. I love the Burrito Inferno. And their nachos kick. Generally, Mexican food from the smaller shacks and stands is the best you can find. It's certainly better than what passes for Mexican food in Mexico (which is made from cactus and pumice). And Bimbo's retains some of that authentic stand flava - cheap, sloppy, enormous burritos filled with beans and guacamole and cilantro lime sour cream and, most of all, wonder. There was something about the ambience in the old location - but I think that came from the years of marinating in that old building. Soaking up the atmosphere, burrito and sangria consumption, and lord knows what else, it had a certain character that the current location lacks. But give it time. This is a college apartment belonging to someone who is obsessed with mexican wrestler masks, angst-filled teenage punk music, corny mexican decorations and bottle caps, that just happens to serve alcohol and food. My girlfriend and I went here on a Sunday, thinking it was the Cha Cha Lounge (it's downstairs, but we didn't see any obvious sign of this). I honestly thought the "Bimbo" references in the bar was a salsa brand. This was our mistake. The margaritas we ordered was from a premixed liquid (blah) and despite it being happy hour, we were charged full price for them. The burritos were tasty, but small for $7.95 each. Fair selection of local microbrew beers though. The surly attitude from the staff is definitely an act. This place is actually NOT vegan friendly. The one burrito that is vegan has a spot of unmelted vegan cheese & maybe a tablespoon of gac. Iow, $9 for a burrito of rice. Everything else costs more to make it vegan (with cheese) & you are still stuck paying for dairy components. Even Chipotle's vegan burrito has more flavor & is cheaper. Sadly they are corporate. Tacos Guaymas is also right there on broadway & at least there are Mexicans who work there. I've tried Bimbos three times since I moved back home & its just not what it use to be. I ate here today. I've been plenty times and every time I've enjoyed it, just like today. The burrito was good, the chips were good and everything was fresh. Perhaps it was the time of day that made my experience enjoyable, I think I and my companion were maybe the third people to walk in just a little after noon on a Saturday. If you don't want character, then go to TDM, Qdoba, or one of those other place so some guys in polo shirts can give you your food. It makes me extremely angry and even sad that it's one of the latest victims of the capitol hill takeover. I've lived on the hill for a while and when I didn't live here, I still spent a lot of time here. Things are changing around here at a pace that I'm not sure I have the stamina to keep up with. Can't go to Linda's anymore on Friday nights because of this shit.
