We have been going to Billy J's in south O for years as it's in our neighborhood so we knew what to expect at Billy's on Blondo. We weren't disappointed. It even looked like a newer version of Billy J's. It was packed as usual so we had about a 10 minute wait. Bookguy ordered the chicken fried steak with eggs over easy. It was plated with the hashbrowns on the bottom followed by the steak, gravy, and eggs. He wasn't thrilled with this arrangement since for him, that meant some deconstruction. But overall he enjoyed it with no comments about dry meat. My omelette was loaded with veggies and I loved the biscuit, which I prefer with jelly not gravy. Plus, the omelette was cooked all the way through. My hashbrowns were crispy perfection. It took a bit longer than we expected to get our order, but there was a steady stream of diners coming and going so it makes sense. The prices are very reasonable and we were glad we opted for Billy's rather than the more expensive upscale place a couple of doors down. read more

Popular community breakfast spot right off Blondo. Clearly a favorite with the locals, the menu offers affordable breakfast and lunch fare. Food is cheap and you get what you pay for. Expect nothing remarkable. Only accepts cash and local checks. Service was attentive but very unfriendly. If it wasn't for the regulars, I suspect Billy's wouldn't last, especially considering the many other great local breakfast spots nearby. Not terrible, but decidedly average. read more

I took my son to Billy's cafe to celebrate his summer break. We were seated right away. The waitress was a attentive. She brought our drinks right away and took our order. I ordered the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. I was suprised to find the chicken fried steaks was served between two slices of white bread. The gravy covered it up. My son ordered cinnamon raisin French toast eggs and sausage. We were the youngest people there. My chicken fried steak was very tender and cooked perfect. The gravy was under seasoned but still pretty good. My son loved the French toast. The portion sizes were just right. I will go back. read more

Stopped for breakfast on my day off. Got here early enough for the Early Bird menu. Got the #6, 2 eggs, hash browns, toast & drink for $4.85 Homey - dinner feel to the place. A lot of regulars and they're all friendly. You can join in the banter going on between the tables, or keep to yourself. If the waitress is busy they'll grab the coffee pot and go around doing refills. Just the kind of place I love to be at. The scrambled eggs were good, and so where the hash browns. But just like other people commented, the hash browns were tooooo greasy. The waitress was competent and friendly, and handled the regulars banter with ease. We decided to try this place out this morning. There's no sign, so I assumed we seat ourselves. The decor is dated like a mom and pop shop, so don't expect anything fancy. The waitress was fast and brought our food quickly. It was good food. I got a veggie omelet and pancakes. My boyfriend got a chicken fried steak omelet and toast. The pancakes surprised us both- so good! We had no clue they only accept cash or check. They have an atm in the back but it's such a pain. All in all, the food would be worth another trip. Good breakfast, reasonable price and good location. My dad & i arrived about 11:00am on a Tuesday & there were about 4 other tables already there. We were a bit confused as to weather to seat ourselves or wait to be seated so we went for it & grabbed a booth. The server greeted us but we got no other direction so i guess we did ok. We sat a couple of minutes & she brought us menus, took our drink order. I got the cinnamon raisin french toast combo, my dad got the waffle combo. Both were tasty, unpretentious, and decent portion size. First off, let me say that I would rather give ZERO stars, but it wouldn't let me. My husband and I dine out a lot, and we especially like little hole-in-the-wall diners, much like this place. Our favorites in Omaha are Leo's Diner in Benson and Justin Thyme Cafe in Ralston... GO THERE INSTEAD. Now here's my account of the absolute worst dining experience I have ever had: We live really close to this location of Billy's Cafe (there are 3 total in Omaha, apparently), and so we wanted to try them out. My husband had been to other Billy's locations and liked them. We get there and the place is packed... awesome, that's a great sign! The signs say, "Seat Yourself" so we wander through and find ONE empty table at the very back. This one empty table has been empty FOR A GOOD REASON. It is shoved up against the bathroom door, so much so that I had to get out of my seat for people going in and out of the bathroom... not to mention the potential for bathroom smells. On our other side is the back door that leads out into the back alleyway, which is propped wide-open by a child's booster seat (classy) IN THE DEAD OF WINTER IN NEBRASKA. We wait far too long for someone to come over and give us menus. Maybe 15 minutes. This isn't a big place... it is a tiny one-room diner... there's no way they didn't see us come in. Anyway, I ask the girl who comes over if they could close the back door because we'd like to take out heavy winter coats off and the wide-open door one foot from our table won't allow that. Oddly, she hesitates, but then closes the door. Severeal minutes after which, my husband and I start to warm up enough to take our wool coats off. An different lady, much older and probably in charge, comes over to take our drink order after about 20 or so minutes. At this point, we're ready to order food as well since we've already been there for 35 minutes and we're starving. We start to ask her and she says, "Just a minute," and walks away with our drink orders. Well, okay... I guess we can wait another minute. OR try another 15 minutes... then she comes back over with our waters and juices and takes our food order. After taking our order, she steps behind us to re-open the back door and prop it open again with the child's booster seat. I stop her before she walks away again and say, "Ma'am, it's very cold out. Can you keep that door closed please?" and she says, "No, our landlord says we have to keep it open." and turns away from us to speak to another table. I'm guessing the couple at this other table are regulars, because she starts telling them, "The fumes from the kitchen were getting to me. This place isn't ventilated so we have to keep the door open at all times. Our landlord says it's a safety hazard." And the couple nods and smiles and they all kind of glare over at me and my husband, as if we are causing trouble. WOW. So my husband and I put our heavy wool winter coats back on. Yeah. Finally, the food comes and we eat in angry silence. I ordered eggs over-easy, hash browns and toast. I asked for hot sauce and never got it, but it couldn't have possibly made the food any better because it the toast was dry and hard, the hash browns were bland and inedible even after adding satl & pepper, and the eggs were also bland. I had no idea anyone anywhere ever made eggs without adding pepper and/or salt and/or butter. SO WEIRD. Well, this is the last straw. I thought after waiting for AN HOUR and having horrible service in the freezing cold, the food would redeem this place. No such luck. My husband got biscuits and gravy and he couldn't finish them because the biscuits were underdone and yeasty and the gravy was bland. SO, during all this, the place is clearing out of the breakfast rush, and while we're sitting there shivering wearing heavy wool coats, NOBODY thinks to ask if we'd like to move to an empty table farther from the wide-open back door. AND, while this has nothing to do with the restaurant staff, the table closest to us, a young couple with kids, is talking about the consistency of a recent baby poop WHILE I'M EATING MY RUNNY EGGS. Suffice it to say, neither of us finished our bland food, and, here's the best part... we go to leave/pay and find out it is CASH-ONLY. I have to wait there while my husband drives to the gas station to get cash from the ATM to pay for our HORRIBLE SERVICE and even more horrible food! And of course, my husband is super non-confrontational, so we never even complained once... he didn't want to me to "cause a scene," but all I was going to do was quietly say to our waitress, "We won't be back. This was awful." That's not a scene! Lol. Now whenever we drive past there my husband jokes about going there again for breakfast and I throttle him. Worst. Experience. Ever. read more

I went to lunch with my son, and we were looking for a good, down to earth, home cookin' style diner. We found exactly what we were looking for here. I love the simplicity and homey feel of this place. Specials are posted on the wall signs when you walk in. We showed up around 11:30 and ordered breakfast. My son got scrambled eggs, sausage, and a blueberry pancake off the kids menu, and I got a bacon and American cheese omelette with their cinnamon raisin French toast on the side. The waitress was great, greeted us right away, brought us our drinks and kept them full. Food didn't take very long and was absolutely delicious. French was delicious but nothing spectacular. Just typical French toast. They don't accept credit or debit cards. It wasn't a horrible breakfast or experience but just nothing noteworthy. I used to go here on Sunday mornings on a fairly consistent basis but haven't been back in over a year. I really enjoyed the place because the breakfast was very fairly priced, the portions and food were both good as well. The interior has a country feel to it. Ate there 2/23/20 first and last time with wife and two kids. Tables in back are wobbly so we moved to front. Told waitress but she seemed indifferent. Food was bland and greasy. On the way home had to pull over to side of road because the wife was sick to her stomach. Later that night I had stomach sickness, and next day my daughter had sickness. Beware! We just walked out of the Blondo location after watching the cook handle our food in between texting and talking on the phone. Picture a rather unhygienic looking cook with holes in his t-shirt tucking his phone under his chins while literally tossing our food on the plate with his bare hands. The same hands that were holding his phone. Health department alert! We had plenty of time to watch him play with his phone because our order clearly wasn't a priority and took 3 times longer than it should. The other act of the floor show was watching the 3 servers provide minimal service in between gossiping sessions. In fact we had to break in on one off the sessions to tell them we were leaving. Great food, great prices. Used to go to Miracle Hills on Sunday, but now closed for whatever reason....now at Blondo, Jen isn't working and the service is not as good. They only have one grill so they can't serve lunch menu on the weekends. Go Mon-Sat for best service. At times the cook doesn't cook my bacon and hashbrowns crispy.
