Why buy local? Over a year ago I purchased new pedals at Bike World. I took them home to install. I made a dumb mistake and messed up the threads. Mad at myself I put off getting this fixed. I punishing myself by riding an old bike and admiring my good bike hanging on the wall as a trophy of my mistake. Today I did the walk of shame to the store and confessed my mistake. I expected to leave my bike for a few weeks and to pay for new parts. What I got at the service counter was a knowing smile, a hey let's see what we can do, and a glimmer of hope. 10 minutes later with the proper tools and expertise I walked out the door with the problem solved. If your riding in Des Moines this weekend look for me. I'll be the happiest guy on the trail. read more

I bought a bike there a few months ago so I was allowed the first basic tune-up for free within one year of purchase. Tune-up done last month, was able to ride the bike when the temps were up last week. Shifting was all over the place; chain skipping in low gears. I didn't have that problem before I took the bike in. Since the tune-up was free, the bike must have been given to a novice 'mechanic' who didn't know what he was doing. read more

I own a couple of bikes, one is a Trek Domane SL6. I moved to Des Moines last year and was in need of a new LBS (local bike shop), and found this massive, gorgeous store that specializes in Trek bikes - as well as other brands. My Trek had done a few thousand miles and needed some love so I had them do a major service on my bike. Got it back and it was like a new bike! Great service. I have been here many times in the past year to upgrade accessories and gear and have always had great service/conversations with the folks working here. And for heaven's sake, if you are looking to buy a bike they have THOUSANDS of bikes at this place!!! The selection is phenomenal! Be careful, if you love bikes you will fall in love with so many sexy bikes and the temptation to add another bike to your stable may overwhelm you. read more

My boyfriend and I bought some new hybrids today and had such an amazing experience at this location. Jeff was super knowledgeable and friendly. He helped us figure out which size would be best for us. He also helped us get our bike rack attached to our car. Very happy to have him helping us during our adventure of picking out new bikes. We also got great deals on some nice bikes and accessories. read more

Visited twice. On the first visit, Andy was very helpful as we learned what frame size we needed for our new bikes. On our second visit, Matt was friendly and let us test out a few bikes before we made our purchases. Happy customers here! read more

I havent been to their new location. But I did go in to buy a new trek bike. I was impressed with the sales person on the floor that helped size me up and get the right bike for me and then made sure it was adjusted for me to get the best ride from it. The bike I wanted was on sale which was awesome but all they had left for color selection was a Robin egg blue. Would have preferred the black colored one..but beggars cant be choosers when it comes to sales season. Lol..only negative was the time it took to put a kickstand on the bike after I bought it and was waiting around for it. Salesman didnt follow up with the service tech guy and my bike just sat there. I'd buy my next bike there. read more

I like all the staff who work there and their customer service attitude. As far as I have seen, one looks down at any potential customer or makes them feel stupid. The store is spacious and carries lots of products that I enjoy browsing through. I like the tune-up offerings and the ability to see or talk to them where they check in the bikes. I like the new location for the Bike World store on EP True Parkway. I feel good just going into the store. read more

Bike World had the two bike brands I was interested in, Trek and Giant, and more than enough inventory. The salesperson who I worked with, Kelly, was very informative and helpful. When I go back for something else I will request her and I recommend her to others. read more

We stopped at the store spontaneously after a few issues caused by TSA inspection traveling with a bike for a race. Bike world team was super helpful, kind, and supportive of my youth athlete. The assortment of accessories is great and our technical issue was resolved immediately. The service person checked the bike quickly for other issues pro bono. The store put in place great safety measures to help limit the spread of COVID. We had an amazing experience and recommend the place 100%. read more

I'm glad they had a bike that for me in stock. Wasn't my first choice, but it worked out. I don't want that to overshadow how incredibly impressed I am by the service I got from Tom L In west Des Moines. I am completely new to biking and not only did he take thorough time to explain things to me, he also showed me around to a few key items that he recommended. I was also pleased with the fact that all the add-ons that I purchased were installed on the spot by Tom, along with a quick tutorial and practice of using my newfound bike shoes, to ensure I don't injure myself in the first hour of using them! I had a wonderful experience with an excellent salesman, Tom L. read more

They have a great selection of bicycles and a wonderful sales staff. Colin Cook was a great salesman and spent over an hour with us as we selected new E bikes. And their service department a second to none. read more

Excellent selection and a bunch of cool vintagey bikes. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Have not used service yet. Not much else you could want. read more

Everyone is always friendly and helpful. I appreciated Biff's overview of bike racks and recommendations on what to consider based on my requirements and price point. He even had recommendations where to get a hitch installed. I walked out with a new rack at the end of my visit. I'll be back. read more

Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. I was looking for a bike trailer and they explained how they worked. I got exactly what I was looking for. I highly recommend. read more

I went in with some shifting issues with my new chain. Had a call that bottom bracket was junk, which I new, and had an option for replacement and also found my middle chain ring was worn out and replaced. I appreciate the thoroughness that the tech Josh used in finding my issues. Cost more than I thought I was spending but the bike rides like new. Definitely recommend for service. Had this all done next day. read more

Very helpful staff. Was able to get me what I was looking for and then out the door as smoothly as possible.

Well, I got a water bottle cage, bottle, and a quick hex drive tool kit. Total cost was almost $30. It's the last time I come here. Way over price and clearance rack still too pricey in my humble opinion. Staff was decent and tried to help but prices proved otherwise. read more

An amazing store with an awesome service department. They don't pressure you into buying brand new like other stores, and have tons of bikes to choose from, both new and used. Their used bikes are serviced to practically new condition before resale. They know their bikes. I would highly recommend them. You won't be disappointed. read more

COVID brought bikes nearly everywhere for sale. But biking is far more than 'a bike.' One would no more enter a store, randomly pick a shirt, and expect satisfaction without the guidance of bodily measurements. Even greater satisfaction is when that shirt is tailored to your needs; and the latter is what Bike World offers. Andy S. at Bike World spent considerable time making sure my Dumont e-Trike was tailored to my needs. He ensured the gears shifted flawlessly, and observed my biking style to make sure the bike conformed and enhanced my biking style. I took that bike on a nearly two-week biking trip to Minnesota, and it worked flawlessly. I am significantly physically impaired from chemotherapy, but that e-Trike performed so well I had no problems keeping up with my children and grandchildren. Even without biking for nearly two years, 30+ miles caused no discomfort on the Bosch pedal-assisted e-trike. Remarkably, at startup, the power dial shows 4 bars of 'power', yet I always finished with the same 4 bars remaining, confirming that bike was well tuned and adapted. (I can also attest that indeed the Bosch assist motor shuts off at 20 mph). Thank you, Andy!! You've made this near octogenarian grandfather incredibly happy and far more physically fit!! read more

We just had a great experience at Bike World in West Des Moines Iowa. We are a couple of cross-country cyclists on a Cannondale tandem that needed some work. Despite RAGBRAI maintenance business that they already had, they were able to fit us in the very next day (which happened to be a scheduled rest day for us), and completely went through our drivetrain to my specifications, and made a couple of very good judgement calls on other things that needed attention. On top of that excellent service, we also got a bill that we were pleased as punch with - very, very reasonable. So if you ever find yourself in need of Tandem work in West Des Moines Iowa, I do not hesitate at all recommend Bike World! (They also happen to be a Co-motion tandem dealer) read more

Very good personal service. I needed new gloves and tire tubes and the staff gave a friendly greeting, made some recommendations and even spent a few minutes exploring my biking interests in conversation. read more

Bike World is great. They help on many levels. Just general help is great. The warehouse and other sales are great. Then there is going the extra mile. I have one salesman that personally helps me find the right bike, tires, and equipment to go along with it. That will keep me coming back read more

Very knowledgeable staff. All my biking needs in one place.

The attention to service was second to none! In the current bike shortage, I had to travel 3 hours to find my frame size, so my contact began with a phone call with Joe. He patiently explained to this former road racer how the touring bike and components varies from the frame and components of 20 years ago. You can't do that without a depth of knowledge and a LOT of patience! He gave me his email for follow-up questions and answered those promptly and in detail. Upon my arrival in Des Moines he spent the better part of a day getting everything set up just as I wished. As he said, the aren't many "new bike days" in one's life, and Joe and the staff I interacted with made it the best possible one I could have hoped for! And having trails right next to the shop made test rides super easy. Thank you so very much! read more

Went in to find a new, lightweight bike for our son. There wasn't an enormous selection for the 6 year-old and under set, but with the help of friendly sales staff, we ended up with exactly what we were looking for...an awesome, fast, bright colored 18" bike with training wheels. It was tuned up and we were ready for the road. Paid a little more than expected, but the smile on our little guy's face? Priceless. read more

Bike World employees not only look down their noses at recreational cyclist but refuse to provide any type of customer service. Apparently one must make an appointment or purchase a bicycle to get service. They do not waste time on customers bothering them with questions on products or services. I have shopped 3 times to give them the benefit of the doubt. Never gain. No service even in the new location and overpriced. read more

My regards to Greg and Jason! Couldn't find a more knowledgeable and helpful set of guys to help us with a bike purchase. We went in for new gloves and got new bikes instead. Holy smokes, you really don't want the wrong size bike, they made this happen correctly, something very difficult for the layman, didn't want to guess. End of the year close out made this affordable, and I feel I got a better bike!! I love my Trek Verve 3! And the excellent advice. The bikes suit us and were adjusted and ready to ride. read more

I can't say enough good things about this business! They have an enormous selection of bikes and all related accessories. What really sets Bike World apart from their competition is their outstanding customer service. They always go above and beyond what's expected of them and that's why I've been a loyal customer for nearly 25 years. read more

Love working with the people, all are great, Greg is exceptional, They sell quality products and they stand behind them!

I have two kids that compete in Triathlons, and I consider Bike World a strong partner. They help me provide the best equipment available in the market, and they always go out of their way to ensure that we are ready for the next race. I would highly recommend Bike World! read more

I completely agree with reviewer Carlos L.(below). I had three bad experiences with a Bike World employee. As a "new(er)" cyclist, I sought out service at the WDM Bike World due to its location. However, each time, I was met with inattentive and (at times) rude service. I will not be going back. There are too many good bike shops in the Des Moines area that will gladly take my business. read more

I love Bike World. Every time I have come in I have gotten great service. I have bought 2 new bikes there and my wife and I love them. They are very knowledgeable and even told us to look around at the competitors. I wouldn't buy a bike any where else! read more

I want to thank Bif and the team at Bike World for going above and beyond to set me up with wheels. They were nice to work with, creative in solutions, responsive, and followed-through on everything. Been in twice and won't go back. Snobby sales guy, will withhold name. His overall attitude was one of arrogance, "there's a reason Trek sells more bikes than anyone else" and the arrogance wasn't only in the comment, there are better and there are worse, number of sales doesn't necessarily mean much it was the manner in which this, and other things were said. Like the fact that he is a collector and owns 28 road bikes (many of them Italian). So the bravado of an elitist doesn't get you points with me. I own a Trek 520 Touring Bike, so when I asked for some information on a Trek mountain bike and compared a couple components with another bike I had ridden I was told, "if you want that bike, go buy it". Basically, the guy has difficulty holding a civil adult conversation and was just plain rude. So if the people from WDM Bike World read this......Urbandale Bike World hands down superior in every way including nice well-mannered and personable employees. They will continue to get my business and I won't step foot in WDM BW ever again. read more
