I took my Rad City E-bike for a tuneup up. They advertise that they will service any bike no problem. I was contacted two days later saying your bike is ready for pickup. I loaded my bike up to get it home and realized that they did absolutely nothing to service the bike - not even the simplest of tasks like putting air in the tires!!! I called to ask them what happened and was put on hold and came back and was told that they tightened the bolts and that they 'don't sell that brand of e-bike, but I could always bring the bike back to put air back into the tires' Really? Two days and $50 later, my bike was in the same condition it was in when I dropped it off! Unsatisfactory service and a lack of concern! Save you money- go elsewhere! read more

This store, like other Erik's has a decent selection of inventory, and a helpful staff. it is early-ish in the season (for me), but I fully expect to be visiting again to have my cycling needs met. DO NOT BUY CLOTHING FROM THIS PLACE The customer service at the West Des Moines location is severely underwhelming. The issue is they are selling products that don't stand up to their advertisement. The staff members including the managers stated that clothing can not be returned because our experience with $150 gloves that are marketed to keep your hands and fingers warm up to -25 degrees was a subjective experience. My husband was out shoveling the snow due to a blizzard and his hands did not keep warm. When he called to see if he could return them they stated no he could not return them and no one wants to buy used items and they would not have a business if they took back returned goods. When we stated Scheels, Bine World, Foot Locker, etc has a return policy they said they could empathize because "too bad so sad" would be unprofessional. Those were the words of the worDs of someone who identified himself as the Customer Service Manager out of the corporate offices overseeing 30+ stores. Congratulations to Erik's we will not shop with them for products they don't stand behind. read more

One thing Des Moines has got is a bunch of fantastic bike shops! One of the bigger ones is Rasmussen. I stopped in yesterday with my son and we had a blast looking around! The staff was super nice and very helpful.. Even though it was super busy, multiple members of the staff check in on us to make sure we were getting great service.. Lots of folks coming in to get their bike serviced and or purchase things for an upcoming season of long rides around Iowa or short rides to breweries.. Either way Rasmussen has easily got everything you need with a staff who is knowledgeable and kind for riders 2 years old to 102! read more

Rassy's has become my favorite Des Moines bike shop. It's an old school kind of place kind of like the old corner hardware store vs. the Home Depot. It's not so much about the shopping "experience" as it is great products, knowledgeable staff and attention to detail. Not sure why the negative reviews. My experience is always first class here. The mechanics are the best in town and they are more than willing to work with and help a neophyte DIYer like myself. As someone who is more into gravel and MTB than road cycling, I especially like their broad focus on all different types of cycling. I don't visit as often as I might because we live a long way out of town, but every time I come here I learn new things that help make cycling more enjoyable. read more

My wife and I were in search of road bikes this spring because we rediscovered the joy of biking last summer and decided our bikes we bought when we were in high school weren't going to cut it anymore. I had not a clue what I wanted in a bike let alone what made one better then the other. I did the typical millennial thing and googled about them and read too many forums/reviews that just made me even more confused. We decide to just go to Rasmussen's and find an expert to talk to which was easy because the first guy to greet us at the door had all the answers we were in search of. I liked that his first question was "what type of rider are looking to be?", instead of "how much do you want to spend?" He suggested a few bikes for both of us and we gave them a test drive. I found a Specialized brand bike I liked and my wife liked a Raleigh. They also had a great sale going on so we loaded up on accessories for our new bikes. At this point even Mr. Rasmussen himself was helping us while the others were getting our bikes setup and ready for us to ride. Once we left Rasmussen's we hit the trails! After our ride we were very pleased with our purchases and would recommend Rasmussen Bike Shop to anyone! read more

I needed some new road tires for one of my bikes. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a salesperson and told them what I was looking for and that I didn't want to break the bank. They found me a good set at a reasonable price very quickly, they also asked if I needed new tubes, which I had forgotten to mention, so they made sure I didn't have to make an extra trip. I have purchased two bikes for my son from Rasmussen and have had service work done on my other bikes. Great service and great prices. read more

Very "clicky". It's the same with their regular customers and the cycling groups that display their rassy flags. If you don't have a $2k or $3k bike, all the latest gadgets....you are an outsider. Don't go in if you have very little money. You'll walk out feeling like a second rater and may never want to ride a bike ever. That's the true tragedy here. It has nothing to do with product, repair skills. It's all about attitude. I remember shopping at the store in the mid 70's when they were located on railroad. Loved the skatebooards and mopeds. I remember everyone being very nice. What happened? Times have changed all over DSM, just not at this bike shop. At the big box stores, sure, the knowledge is lacking. The quality is sometime slacking. But the service and attitude when you walk in the door is completley different. read more
