I was driving around trying to waste time and since I'm in the market for a bike I stumbled across this bike barn. I thought it would have tons of bikes inside so I stopped! Upon entrance, no one greeted me other than other customers . They had plenty of workers inside so I felt that they should make it a point to greet any and everyone who walks through the door to give a welcoming feeling. The bikes are all more on a professional bike rider scale and repairs. They didn't have alot of bikes but had a good amount. I was assuming and thinking because of the name, that they'd have every type of bike from every price scale but I was wrong unless they sold out since this weather is perfect for bike riding. I did see a clearance bike for$400.00 which was a good price if you're a professional bike rider who was faithful to bike riding sport. I was looking for more of a girly bike to ride in my bike group with...a fun group not professional, bike grp.. (no marathons going on with us) Anyway, due to the non welcoming committee I will not return. I really wanted to like this shop, especially since I'm a long-time local. I recently got into mountain biking and decided to check it out. I waited outside for about 10 minutes before the doors opened and was greeted with a repetitive, "What do you need?"--I was asked the same question five times. It felt a bit abrupt, and the whole experience was less welcoming than I'd hoped. I bought an assist bar for my nephew, but the overall customer service was disappointing. I waited for about three minutes at the front desk before the staff even acknowledged me, and the person assisting didn't seem very interested. There was also a mechanic in the back who saw the interaction but didn't step in to help either. The shop itself is clean and organized, but the prices seemed a little on the high side. I would rate it higher if the customer experience matched the quality of the store. read more

July 2021: Wow - only driven by here a zillion times. They have everything - mountain bikes, helmets, street bikes, adult three wheelers, bikes with detachable bike trailer for kids, bike bells - except unicycles! Mary treated me like I shop there all the time - personable and went the extra mile to call her vendor to ask about his inventory. He had no unicycles in stock. So bummed! I know I can buy one on Amazon but wanted to patronize a local family-owned business. I'll check back with them in a few months. Much appreciation to Mary exceeding expectations. It is a rarity and more likely to happen at small local businesses, where they see the value of creating long term relationships. I've heard only good things for years about this local bike shop, but it wasn't until recently that I became a customer. Note: they are still open during COVID-19 as of this writing. Silver lining of being at home with all activities canceled is that I was able to teach both of my kids to ride a bike with no training wheels. They are 7 and 8 (although my daughter was 6 at the time with a birthday coming up). They both learned on a hand-me-down bike from a friend (thanks Kelly L). Once they were confident, we were able to graduate to new bikes including a birthday present from Bike Barn. I shopped on the Bike Barn's website and gave my daughter some options. She chose what she liked and I called to make sure it was available. I spoke with Wendy on the phone, arranged to pay by phone (well... grandma actually paid), and then a few hours later, we picked up the bike right outside the shop. It was a fabulous experience and my daughter is thrilled with her new bike. We will definitely be back for future cycling needs! read more

Cannot recommend Bike Barn enough. Mary and Greg have been a huge help for a new bike purchase. I recently purchased a bike from trek.com to be assembled and delivered by Bike Barn. When the bike arrived, Greg let me drive it around for a few minutes to make sure it was working properly. He personally assembled it and we are about the same height but he wanted to make sure it was fit. It was. He went over a few key items on the bike (stuff I didn't learn from YouTube) and I was super thankful for that. He also recommended some awesome pedals because the stock ones are way too small. I hate having to write negative reviews, particularly about a small independent business, however, when warranted, it is a must. I visited Bike Barn today with my wife mid-morning. Our objective was to learn a bit about trail bikes and then make a purchase if we felt comfortable with prices and recommendations. I liked that they custom fit bikes to riders. We were the only patrons in the store. Despite three (3) employees working, not one asked us if we needed any assistance, greeted us or made eye contact. I felt like we were intruding on private property. After about 10 minutes of walking around the store, we left, no one asked if we needed assistance, help with a question, nada, nothing. It kills me to hear small business owners (I own several businesses) complain about "big box retailers" undercutting their prices. Hell, the service that Bike Barn provided I could have got at Costco or any other big box, it was zero customer service. Next on my list was Archers Bikes in Mesa. We walked in and it was busy with several customers at the service desk and others mulling around. A gentlemen named Travis ( I later learned after asking for his card he was the President of Archers) asked us immediately if we needed any assistance. He walked us through many options and ultimately, after learning more about our lifestyle and what we wanted to do, moved us to a motorized assisted bike, not fully motorized but intuitively motorized, he explained it much better than I am here, but it works for us. Ultimately, Archers received a nice sale of $14,000.00 for two bikes while Bike Barn, well sorry to bother you guys, you looked so busy....doing nothing! Glad business is so good you can lose $14K orders. Good luck on continued operations. read more

I was in the middle of a ride from South Scottsdale heading to the Farmer's Market in Phoenix when my bike chain suddenly broke at the intersection of Indian School & 48th Street. I checked to see the closest bike shop and saw that the Bike Barn was only about a mile and a half away. I called and they told me that they were shorthanded today and asked if I could leave the bike with them? I explained to them I was in a middle of a ride and they said if I brought it in they couldn't promise anything but, they hopefully could at least get me going, I just might not be able to shift gears. I made it over to them (Luckily it was pretty much a little bit downhill or flat and I was able to coast on my bike or pedal it like a scooter) and they quickly got me in and Dave took a look. Dave ended up just needing to put one chain-link that broke back in and said pretty much I should even be able to shift gears. They said that it should work for now and get me through my ride. I made it to the farmers market and safely back home shifting all the way through all my gears! I was only charged $5 for the part and next to nothing for the labor so, I left a decent tip! And I sure appreciate the help! read more

I don't even feel like I should be reviewing this place because my time in the store was limited but here is what I can share. I stopped in looking for a gravel bike as Google listed them as having that genre. I totally get the supply chain economics of bicycles at the moment so I was not surprised with the lack of inventory on the floor as these items are in high demand. What I did find to be a bit off-putting was that it took me approaching a sales person to engage in a conversation after multiple employees has walked by me without asking if I needed any assistance. For whatever reason it was as if everyone was too busy to acknowledge that I was in the store and interested in purchase a frame set; could have been the activity that was happening but it just felt weird. Their price on bikes are the same as online retailers but if you go there they'll take their time making sure the bike fits properly and will take their time teaching you to do the normal maintenance of the bike. I drove 10 hours to go to Bike Barn, and would do it again in a heartbeat! My best friend got me hooked on road cycling and my 25 year old Trek 1000 wasn't cutting it anymore. I decided to make my first new bike purchase in many, many years only to discover that I was not the only one looking for bikes during COVID. In Las Vegas where I live, every bike shop was picked over and for the most part I was told it was nearly impossible to find the bike I wanted in town (and it could take up to a year to order). This left me with 2 choices, forget the idea or expand my search to neighboring states - California, Utah or Arizona. For two weeks, I searched websites and bike links of large chains with no luck and many with false leads promising out of stock items. I'm so happy I found Bike Barn. They had my bike listed on their site. I called to confirm and was greeted immediately with excellent service that continued through my purchase (and beyond). Because I was driving in from Las Vegas to Phoenix, they specifically set aside a window of time to meet with me. They guided me through the basics of the bike and let me test ride it. Dave and Ed were great to work with and incredibly nice - which if you haven't been in a bike shop in awhile, it can be a real coin toss as newcomers aren't always met with the warmest of welcomes. Bike Barn couldn't be further from that stereotype which in my opinion is worth the drive alone. I bought the bike, drove back to Las Vegas and in 1 week of riding can happily say I have put over 150 miles on the bike with lots of planned rides ahead. We bought all our bikes here. The service is great when you buy a bike, but here's why I'm not giving them 5 stars... We called before our trip back to Scottsdale to get our bikes tuned up... I never received my first tune up. My boyfriend was going to pay for his second tune up. They told us to bring our bikes whenever. We specifically asked if they could take care of our bikes during the week when we were there. We were told no appointment was needed. When we got there to drop our bikes off, the guy working told us they weren't taking any bikes in, and that they wouldn't be working on bikes for almost 3 weeks. Basically we wasted bringing our bikes from LA to Scottsdale because of the false information they told us over the phone. read more

If I can leave negative I would . My wife and I came In yesterday to get help with tubes . There was a gentleman waiting patiently to be helped next . The older lady got us the tubes we need and at the check out I asked a couple Of questions about a small bottle of lube at the front . She answered the question. I said we will take that also . She said well ok don't worry about it happy holidays and comped the 3 dollar bottle. As she helped the next gentleman, her whole demeanor changed with him . He was very patient and just asked to get a couple bolts tighten on a kids bike he was donating to a charity . I saw he offered to pay for a chain link it looked like and the gentleman helping him Was very generous and assisted him. All was well At that point until she came over demanding he paid for the other employee tightening the bolt . I mean I understand service cost but the employee said to the guy. Don't worry about it man . Just pay for the link no big deal it's just one bolt . The customer and the guy were on The same page . The link cost 3 bucks and the guys total came out to 14 bucks or something . Both the guy and the employee were held back after she raised her voice at the customer and said " does he work for free for you ?" Then Looked at the employee and kept yelling at him hime and say " do you work for free ?" Literally right after she just gave me a free bottle of lube . The employee said . " It's not a big deal he donating the bike and I just tightened the bolt so the kid riding would be safe " she looked right at the guy and said . " You people are the worst " now at first I was like she's having a bad day , but it was very clear to me she had a problem with the color of this gentleman's skin worth the comment she made . As she walked off she asked us again if we needed a thing else and I said . Can I offer to pay for the complimentary lube you gave me . Her response " I take care of my own people " we were floored when we heard that . The gentleman clearly hear it and as a bigger African American man I cold tell he was floored also . Now I understand nothing I. This world is free . I truly so . But this gentleman was clearly doing a good deed and was on the same page as the guy helping and from the sounds had came there In the past and bought several bikes . Behavior like this is uncalled for and she should be ashamed of how she treated this man . We own a large business in the biltmore area are we're looking to buy 15 plus bikes for our employee raffles froM them . After we saw this situation we will no longer come back . I'm not sure if she's the owner or what but she was clearly racist and has a major problem . It's been a tough year for all of us and we never know peoples battle but racism should never be tolerated . I lost sleep thinking about how bad I felt for the guy. Huge shot out the the other employee with the glasses who help the customer because he was generous and handled it well. As for the older lady . Great experience. After my road bike was stolen in CA, I was on the hunt for a new bike. Like many people in 2020, I was having a very hard time finding the right replacement. As we are traveling through AZ, I started searching all the shops in the area. A few others had what I wanted, but the staff on the phone at Bike Barn was the most friendly and helpful, so I decided to buy from them. (It was also great that their current inventory is searchable and visible on their website - what a plus!) When I arrived to pick up my bike, it was ready to go. They quickly installed pedals and bottle cages, and were understanding while my kids made a mess of the place. Bike Barn also had a good assortment of tools, bags, and other accessories and I'm certain wouldn't hesitate to offer assistance to track down anything else one might need.
