Bike barn has always treated me really well and today was no exception. The customer service is by far the best attribute of this pace. Yes, they have the best quality bikes in the area, but they also have the best people to help you out. I've lived in Arcadia for a little over six years and I've been shopping here for about five. My first purchase was an Electra beach cruiser and it's still running perfectly. I think that has a lot to do with being able to bring any bike you get from them back, and have them tune it up for free. Its the most basic bike you can get there but if anything wobbles or has issues, they'll fix it. After five years, I wanted to add some fairings to change the look a bit so I bought the Electra Fairings and put them on. After a month I realized I didn't like them anymore and wanted to go back to the basics. After taking them off I figured I'd only get $25-30 bucks for them on Craigslist so I decided to just bring them back so they could use the parts if need be. When I got there, 20 min ago btw, they returned them without pack-edging and gave me a full refund. I'm astonished at the great customer service I just had and will definitely be buying anything bike related from them next time. Thank you for making Arcadia better. read more

I just bought a new Trek mountain bike through Ed and Dave at Bike Barn. It was a great experience. They opened early one morning to order my bike for me. They had my bike built and ready a few days after order. My brakes started squeaking a little after my first ride. Went in today for a new set of bars for me beach cruiser. Place was busy which tells me that this is the place to be. Drove from far west Phoenix so I was hoping to not be disappointed. I was not! Staff was great. Hooked me up with a great pair of bars almost like he knew what I was looking for. Grabbed some grips and went to pay. He noticed my USBank military themed card and said "military?" Yes I was. BAM 10% discount. He also was proud that he worked for a veteran owned business! So far so good. "Hey, I can put those grips on for you if you would like" Yes Please! Great service. Wow. I called ahead to ask a few questions about what was going on with our bikes (we know how to fix up bikes for the most part but don't have a bunch of bicycle tools for when all the gear for your head tube is being funny, or your back hub is messed up). He told us to bring our bikes in for a free estimate and they'd more than likely be able to fix it without too much of a charge. I thought, hurray! My girlfriend and I travelled by bus to get to this place (as we only have bikes). It took us about an hour (on a Sunday). We get there, he looks our bikes over, and says that it's going to cost $10 for a chain (reasonable) and $15 to put it on. Uhhhh, WHAT? You're telling me that you're going to charge me more than the actual chain to put it on, when if I had brought my little chain tool with me it would literally take me no more than five minutes to put the chain on? That was absolute BS. He also said he was going to charge $25 to put a front brake on. Please tell me you are joking about that, too. I checked my watch to make sure it wasn't April 1st. Then after my girlfriend walked outside, I find out that they aren't even going to fix it today (when it in total would have taken them no more than 10 minutes). The hipsters response was, "Uh, well I don't have the time to do it today. It's very labor intensive work." It wasn't. At all. If I had the right bike tools it would have taken me about four seconds to rearrange the bolts for the front wheel. They're rude. They're pretentious. And they think that I have no knowledge of bikes (simply because I brought the bicycle in), so they're incredible condescending. Not to mention up-charging the hell out of whatever they feel like. Don't go there. Ever. Find somewhere else to go. If you really want an excellent deal and maybe learn a few things in the process, take your bike to Doug at Bikes International in Mesa. It's out of his home, but he took several classes on bicycle mechanics, worked in several bike shops, and now teaches classes on bicycle mechanics. I had two bikes in for tune-ups. One guy (initials JF) did a great job of fixing up an old beatup bike and even called me to make sure that some extra work he needed to do was okay. Then another guy (KO) worked on the second bike and replaced two tires instead of two tubes (as requested) without so much as calling me. He tried to lie and say that my phone number didn't work--but it was the exact same number on the other ticket. Then he tried to say that my voicemail didn't work, which is funny because the other guy left a voicemail message. Probably best to just say you were too lazy to call or didn't give a fuck rather than trying to pretend my phone didn't work. read more

Terrible customer service! I was in the market for two Electra cruisers (total cost w/accessories $1000). Since I lived down the street I thought it would be convenient to have a bike shop so close by. On three separate occasions, I went in the Bike Barn: 1. Monday afternoon - was in the store over 20 minutes - nobody every spoke to me or offered any assistance. 2. Thursday afternoon - a young gentlemen approached me, started asking some questions about the cruisers, he pulled out his cell phone and started sending a text message 3. Sat morning - was approached by a middle aged woman, told her I was interested in the Electra's - pointed me to the opposite side of the store and then walked off. These guys are the best. I had a situation where my bike was unable to be packed for an airplane flight in the morning. I FB'd the place around 10pm the night before, and someone got back to me first thing in the morning, saying that even though they opened at 9am, they would be there at 7:30am, and come on by. Exceptional service! David S. and his co-worker let me into the store on July 4th to shop even though they were closed. (Maps/Yelp said they were open.) They were there working on bikes and just wanted to be nice. They didn't even expect me to buy anything! I'm visiting from Las Vegas so you better believe I bought a $100 shop jersey to show my appreciation. Based on this experience I have no qualms recommending this shop. I called to see if they had 24" street tires in stock. The guy on phone said yeah we've got a few different types here, dirt and street. So I packed up my son and drove there. When I get there a different guy says yeah we only have this one dirt tire in 24" so I basically packed up and drove there for nothing. Guy on the phone made it sound like he was looking right at them, but I think he really didn't even check. Also in store took awhile to get service unless you walk in with a bike, then they ask you right away what you need help with, people who came in after me were getting helped first. This is a great bike shop! When it comes to bike shops in the valley there are certain shops that obtain a bad reputation very quickly. This is not one of them. Mary and her staff are really helpful and very friendly. Don't be fooled by the appearance on the outside. When you walk in, each person is very helpful and aware of the current and past trends in the industry. I recently had an issue with a warranty that a manufacturer had sent out via email and the shop handled it for me right away. They were prompt and helpful, which other such boutique shops are not. I had a great experience. I came in there several times and each time I got somebody different and they were all very helpful. I came in during Christmas time. Spending that much money I had a lot of questions and they were very patient and helpful. They let me test ride a bike and they didn't ask for my drivers license they were very nice. My husband and I both got bikes.They give us discounts on the bikes and accessories. I walked in with my bike with a flat. With in 5 mins fixed. I haven't had any experiences with Mary, whom everyone seems to love. I've have only recently dealt with the "assistant manager" (according to website) who seems to have a very snide attitude towards anyone asking questions. I've never understood the arrogance displayed by a few of the local bike shop mechanics, but oh well, its forced me to fix everything myself. anyways, i had bought a specific tire here that i was happy with, and when i came back to get another a few weeks later this same guy who sold me the original tire swore hes never seen or sold the tire in question. he was definitely trying to talk down to me both times I've dealt with him. I'm sure I'm not the only one. This was the shop my grandma used to take me to buy my first bikes when i was little, so its unfortunate that ill probably never give them business again (unless there's an emergency, as me and my girlfriend rely on our bike to commute to work daily :( read more

I can't say enough good things about Chris and the team at bike barn. I purchased an E-bike online (wish I didn't and should've waited until I arrived in Phoenix) had a problem with the motor and controller after 30 miles. Chris could've said I'm not familiar with this model (another store did) and blown me off but NO, he dove right in found the manufacturer , ordered the replacement parts & put in back together and it's like a new bike -- well it was actually new. Update: I revisited the store to receive the same lack luster service. It doesn't shock me when shops like this complain of the internet stealing their business. While I ended up not buying my road bike from this store due to the deep discount I received from another LBS for the same brand road bike at an upgrade level, I wanted to share with you that Mary is awesome, patient, and very helpful. I would recommend her to novice women bikers. I'm very particular about purchasing merchandise from women, as I am a huge proponent of supporting women's business enterprise and supporting women in general. Mary spent a bunch of time figuring out the right bike size for me, and searched the computer to find out the availability and prices for 2012 models. She made me feel very comfortable and educated me on bikes and riding. She rocks. read more

I called before I came to ask if a part exists for my specific bike, I was told yes bring it down they'll find the part. When I got there, it turns out that specific part isn't offered or even made by any company. So I made a trip there for nothing. When I first walked in, I had to find someone to help, place was almost empty with 1 other customer. Finally, I was asked "WHAT DO YOU NEED?" as if they are doing me a favor by asking (horrible customer service, what ever happened to may I help you). Lastly & most importantly, ALL the sales people have attitude & act like they are hotshots, I wish I would've asked the guy who helped me for his name as his attitude was flat out rotten so I could've put him on blast so his boss could read how they greet customers with attitude coming in the door. If you want to avoid a testosterone experience with some guys who obviously don't want to be there and their attitude shows, stay away from this "tough guy" barn. read more

A friend and I needed to get a bike fixed. we knew it would likely be an expensive proposition to get the problems worked out, but we tried it any ways. We were greeted promptly and kindly by the owner. We explained the situation and the owner who has been in the business for good amount of time was absolutely strait up about the problems with the bike we had. Essentially, we were looking at the prospect of spending a fortune on constant tune-ups to keep it road worthy. The owner has high integrity! I did not feel pushed nor pressured to make a purchase. He gave the best options for our needs and his prices. He was very helpful in showing us what to look for in a bike. The lesson, stay away from cheaply made "one size fits all" kind of bikes that you will find at Target or Walmart. It was a great experience with a local merchant. I felt he gave great value even though we did not purchase any of his products or services. He was absolutely honest and I will be happy to patronize his store again and pay a premium for quality service. read more

The bike I wanted wasn't in stock and the lady behind the counter didn't seem to want to go through all the trouble of ordering the bike for me. I used to go to this shop as a kid with my dad when it Barbieri's, lots of good memories. But my last few visits have not been good. Surly staff, vastly overpriced bikes, and, if you need a repair, they are going to pull the old baloney of giving you a really high estimate, and then pull the old routine of trying to sell you a new bike. I'm done. There are a lot of great bike stores around town that don't pull this crap. I am done, you don't even get my sentimental side any more. It can be disappointing when loyalty is not valued. I have taken my road bike to Bike barn many times over the years and have ridden with the group ride in times past. If I need something bike related, I try my best to buy here first then local bike shops, lastly Amazon. I've purchased many a 'tune up' at this location with pretty solid results. Of course there's been a time or 2 that I road away thinking, "Did I really just pay for this?" as I see gunk and dirt that you expect to be wiped off as part of the extra cleaning fee. I went to the bike barn after purchasing a couple of E bikes that I wanted checked over and chatted with the mechanic. He was able to look me up and see how my history from my phone number. I mentioned to him that I've ridden the new bikes a good distance after assembling myself. I've met a couple other riders who chatted about their own experiences at their local Bike shops in Phoenix proper. When I mentioned I'd like a mechanic to check over the newly assembled bikes and I'd pay for a tune up charge, he told me they were raising the prices and I needed to act fast. I mentioned that I was wanting to bring 3 (newly assembled) E bikes in for a 'checkup and once over by a professional' and that another close by shop was charging nearly half the bike barn's price. The mechanic replied back, "we're raising our prices soon so better get them in while it's only $70.00". This left me disappointed as I feel there should be some wiggle room for long time customers of BB, or maybe even a volume discount for 3 bikes. At this point, I felt that I had to offer the competition a fair chance. After all, it's not that much further west. The job that was done far exceeded my expectations and was still half the price of Bike Barn. Now I have to ask myself how much money have I wasted here over the years. I really wanted to continue to be loyal to BB but why? Do your homework. It's really just a couple of phone calls and you'll find some great professionals out there looking to work for your business. read more
