Anyone who follows my reviews knows I have allergies to alliums so we made the point to let our waiter, Matt know. He was quite alert, and I believe made an effort to make sure that he communicated my allergy to the kitchen. It did not take long for our order to come out and it was stunning and massive. See the photograph. Unfortunately, my sister noted almost immediately that there was onion on the plate. How disappointing because it looked so good. We flagged down Matt to let him know. He was very apologetic and swept the plate away back to the kitchen returning a few minutes later to let me know that the hashbrowns were not an option. We replace those with french fries. Overall, the plate was returned about 10 minutes later and looked free of onions. The eggs were cooked the way we asked, and the french fries were crispy, although they appear to have been tossed in cornstarch or flour to make them crispy - that's a coating which I'm not fond of. All in all, the eggs were delicious and the portion size could have fed three people. We ordered a couple of desserts to take away. Grand total was about $50. Yikes. Add the tip and you're up to $65 for breakfast. I recognized that this was a fancier breakfast and not eggs over very easy, etc. but $50 for two breakfast and two desserts two beverages. That's a lot. Even at the price of groceries these days, $65 still goes a long way in the breakfast category. The ambience is classic diner and very clean the service was quite attentive, friendly, and professional although we did have to flag Matt down a couple of times. I don't think he was distracted, I think it was more his workflow. The loss of the star is because I was served something I was allergic to. That's not really excusable, but they did apologize. I am convinced that he advised the kitchen of my allergy but before finalizing my order, a trip to the kitchen to verify about whether onions or garlic was in any of the food would have been appreciated

I explained that I usually eat salmon 2 to 3 times a week and I've traveled out of the country at least five times within the last year ordering it wherever I was . I think this is probably the best salmon I've had within this time frame . I applaud!! It was cooked perfect perfectly, and the fillets were perfect sized. The beans , rice fresh guacamole & salsa also deserve a round of applause ! Below is a picture of one of the tacos because they demolished the other ones, but it certainly doesn't do it justice! While waiting, I noticed another group that stated they were a party of 9 was seated ahead of us, even though there were only 7 people, while we were a party of 6, including children. That left me confused and frustrated, especially since we had called ahead and were patiently waiting our turn. I left feeling disappointed and uncomfortable. I can't speak to why the wait list was handled the way it was, but the experience made me feel that we were treated unfairly. I used to come to this diner often, and because of this experience, I will not be returning. More importantly, I hope no other family has to leave feeling the way we did today. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a special Mother's Day with my family ended in frustration and disappointment. Thank you for ruining what should have been a meaningful day.

We were told their long-standing chef of 30+ yrs either resigned(?) or didn't want to work here(?) and based on what my coworker told me- that she noticed a difference in the cooking not too long ago when she came here. Sadly, it shows. Our escargots were extremely salty. My husband's pork chop was salty. His vegetables also salty. At that point, I held out hope that my Chilean sea bass might at least redeem the evening. No such luck. Salty again. Even the mushroom risotto- which actually had delicious flavor, was overpowered by too much salt. By then, after one appetizer and two entrées all salty, we figured dessert would at least save the night. Nope. I ordered profiteroles with chocolate gelato instead of vanilla and was truly looking forward to them. Except, the profiteroles were rock hard. The chocolate drizzle tasted like Hershey's syrup, making the dessert taste cheap for a restaurant of this type. My husband, who always goes for sorbet, ordered the mango flavor- but to me it tasted like an unripe mango blended with sugar just to make it palatable.. If you're from the Caribbean or know a true mango taste, you know exactly what I mean. And don't even get me started on the cocktails- they tasted more like juice than actual drinks. At the end of the night, we realized we weren't imagining things. A $245 dinner with weak cocktails, overly salty food and disappointing desserts was no balance for a restaurant with such a long-standing history. For that reason... we out.

I don't know if this was a "one off" bad batter, but we were surprised that a place specializing in pancakes didn't have this component of their food on automatic slam dunk mode. The toppings were tasty. I only ate about one-third of my pancakes. Partly because it was a large serving. Partly because the pancakes weren't really enjoyable. He is likely tired of hearing complaints.) My first sign of discomfort was the musty smell in the entryway. I found my welcome packet on the desk with my first and last name and room displayed on the front. I saw another guest's packet there too; having my information displayed that way was a bit unnerving, especially as a solo female traveler. (Perhaps assign each guest a code and only write that on the envelope.) As I walked to the room, the hallway was completely dark, so I used my cell phone flashlight to find my way. My room (Sage Left) was "quaint."Despite the fake fingernail found on the ledge behind the hand towel, the clump of black hair in the shower, the body hair on the toilet, and the bed that felt like rocks. But I was determined to make the best of things. I tried to open the door to the outdoor area; I tried to. I had to pull weeds away from it first. I sat down on the red lounge chair and looked out at overgrown bushes and weeds. I took in the rest of the space and saw propane containers stored under plants. Since the restaurant isn't open until Friday, I had to eat lunch and dinner off-site. I also bought bottles of water since there weren't any in the room and the water cooler jug was empty during my stay. (If an alternate water source was available, I did not see one.) Using the TV was frustrating, and I gave up. I took a walk on the grounds and was astonished at how neglected everything is. Dead plants, weeds, and broken path stones were everywhere. The outdoor furniture is either rusted or needs power washing. The overall feeling is gloomy. I had to leave the premises on Wednesday because it was incredibly depressing. (Think "Grey Gardens") Thursday morning, I was quite down about my experience, and it was affecting me physically. At breakfast, Alicia, the breakfast chef, noticed my discomfort; she listened to some of my issues and explained that only a skeleton crew is trying to keep the Inn going. (She is a true gem, by the way.) My spa services were good. Despite the loud noise coming from the water pipe, I found the "temporary" spa nice. I only wish it were open before Thursday. I called Buttermilk to cancel 2 days before check-in, but I made my reservation through Expedia, and I couldn't cancel or modify my booking under their policy. I also contacted them on the day of my arrival. They misrepresented the property: the "river view" room I booked, the claim that there is afternoon tea, bottles of water in the room, and that the on-site restaurant is open during the week. Do not be fooled by the pictures on their website or social media. They are years old and mostly professional photographs with lighting, flowers, and decorations for special events.
