My son gets the pulled bbq chicken sandwiches. The show stopper are the Colossal milkshakes and the separate room! You can also get single scoop ice cream as well, but if you're there go ahead and try one of the milkshakes! Something we loved is that the food is so affordable and portions are generous. The pulled pork was great quality with delicious seasoning on it. The beef brisket was fairly fatty - which is not our preference but I know some people like it that way. There are two BBQ sauces to choose from, regular and spicy. Went all the way to Westfield to surprise the hubby with a BBQ feast for his birthday! Went here because Ben's Shack was done for the day. Got the ribs and brisket at Big Hoffas. I'm not a fan of chopped up brisket especially when ordered a la carte, I prefer it sliced in strips. In a sandwich that is acceptable. The bark and the marbled parts were delicious. However as you eat the leaner meat it's a bit bland and appears the smoke hadn't gone through. i needed to use a lot of bbq sauce for those parts. Let's move onto the ribs. They were cooked to where it falls clean off the bone as you cut into them. The BIG issue I had was the rack of ribs I got had the membrane still intact and that part grosses me out. I recently visited Big Hoffa's for the first time in a few years and the interior is so much improved! It feels fresh and clean while still keeping that quirky vibe they are known for! Had heard really great things about Big Hoffa finally got the chance to try them. I will start by saying I'm not a fan of BBQ but I was with other people that are and one other person was with us just for the ice cream. This is one review where a half star would be nice. 3 seems low and 4 is too high. Ok walk in and head straight down the wall and then turn left and your are facing multiple windows. I can see this being confusing if busy. They weren't at all busy 3pm on a Thursday. First window you order and pay for your meal. Second window you pick up beer and wine. Third window is order pick up and they give you a number. Numbers aren't called in order ( I saw the sign stating this ). Fourth window is for call ahead orders. Right after the 4th window is an area with drinks, forks, lids, straws, ketchup and BBQ sauce. I got buffalo ranch chicken with fries and mac n cheese and a sasafrass tea. The buffalo chicken was good. The bun was super soft which typically would be good but it got soggy really fast. I left the bun and just ate the chicken. Fries were great crispy seasoned fries. Mac N Cheese was horrible over cooked cafeteria kind of Mac N Cheese and no love was used in the making of it. The sasafrass tea was weak in flavor and super sweet. I grew up drinking sasafrass tea actually boiling the root and making your own. Later I thinned it down with unsweet tea. Friends got Bbq chicken sandwich and fries and mac n cheese . They did the same as I did and ditched the bread. They also said the mac n cheese was really horrible. Ice cream: I got a scoop of chocolate. FYI one scoop is actually two. Chocolate ice cream was basic decent chocolate. Friend got Caramel with pretzel pieces in it. That was really good. Friends son got Carribean Cay shake it was not 16$ worthy. It was a lime shake with a piece of Key Lime Pie on top with two vanilla wafer cookies and the cup had white chocolate and chocolate sprinkles on the outside. We all tried the shake. We all said it was just nasty. Super lime flavor that came across very fake and lingered on the tongue. He said the pie itself was good. 90% of the shake was thrown away. I got my husband some food togo since he was at work while we were there and he likes BBQ. I really wished they had a sample dinner of a little chicken , pork and beef but they don't. I ended up getting him a half pound of pork and half pound of chicken with no sides. He said taste was comparable to City Bbq. He said the bbq sauce was diffrent. Not very sweet or smoky. The ambiance is fitting as BBQ joint is housed in what looks like a giant barn. This is a self serve order at the counter and you pick up your ready of goodies at the pick up counter when they call your number. The ordering process is easy and i went with the 1/2lb brisket with fries, habanero cole slaw and ranch on the side. The meat was overall tender minus the leaner parts that didn't have a ton of flavor. Good thing there are 3 kinds of bbq sauce you can get because this was needed. Adding the habanero cole slaw on the rolls with brisket was pretty tasty. I was expecting the cole slaw to pack more of a punch but it was kind of bland - llacked salt and acidity. Ended up mixing it with the bbq sauce to eat. The fries were solid and the homemade ranch was a nice dip to go with it. Not going to lie... I don't do bbq. I actually don't even eat meat bc it makes me sick! We actually stopped in to get the kids ice cream at the freezery which is another review in itself!! While we were waiting for the ice cream, it was 2 in the afternoon and we were starving. I ordered something that had rice, cilantro, etc and figured I'd give the brisket to my husband... Instead our meal came out and I actually enjoyed the it!!! It was incredibly filling and hit the spot! We have been here several times and photos just do not do the food justice. I continue to get the buccaneer but my husband has tried several items on their menu and it is hands down the best barbecue we have tried around here. The service is always great, you go up to order and then they have a pick up window. I'm not sure what the theme inside is but it reminds me of the swamps in Louisiana with the alligators on the wall and the lights. Their sweet tea is the best I've ever had and I have so many of their blue cups because I can't leave without a huge glass of their sweet tea. They also have an ice cream side that the kids love. I just dined in at big Hoffa Love the ambiance and variety of what you can order I decided on the plate where you can get a meat and two sides 1/4 or 1/2 and I chose the 1/2 plate I thought it had a choice between chicken or pork and lady only gsvd me an option for pork . I got the Mac which was a small portion but delicious and fries and they included two garlic butter rolls which someone could easily make two sliders enough to bring home I asked for a cup of water and they asked if I wanted ranch and I said yes . The meal was supposed to be $11.99 plus tax and it came out to 14 something when I asked when she said 75 cents for a water cup and another 75 cents per ranch. I totally get extra on sauce not on a small cup of water . They do price per head including everything you could need without hidden fees which was amazing. Most places want you to pay more for serving and dishwater but not them! We went to Big Hoffa's Smokehouse Bar-B-Que for dinner and it was absolutely delicious. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and Jacob has outstanding customer service skills. The pulled pork, baked beans and mild bbq sauce were my favorite. The macaroni and cheese was just ok. The BBQ ribs are very tender and seasoned just right. The garlic rolls were a hit too. I highly recommend this bbq spot if you are looking for some really good beef ribs, the ribs are so delicious that you don't have to put any sauce on them. Best BBQ IN THE INDY METRO AREA!!! Since we moved to the north side of Indy, we have been spoiled to be this close to Big Hoffa's Smokehouse. I don't think any other BBQ joint will live up to the Hoff. The only that could make it better is if the Hoff, David Hasselhoff was there to serve us and serenade us. We have tried the pulled pork, ribs, brisket, suasage and chicken. We've had some of the specialty bowls and then cuban sandwich. As for the sides, we've had about all of them. My favorite sides are the Mac and Cheese, fries and baked beans. The sweet tea is awesome, but we typically get Diet Mountain Dew. We have so many of the blue large drink cups at home now it isn't funny. They also have an ok beer selection. We've had the brownie sundae as well as trying some of the ice cream at ice cream shoppe attached which serves huge shakes as well. The meats may not be done to a "competition" style cook, but I prefer not having the need to fight my meats. The bones slide right out of the rack of ribs. The brisket is more than fork tender, I would imagine the back of a spoon would handle it. The regular BBQ sauce is very good. It has a good smokiness to it and not too sweet. The spicy BBQ sauce is not up our alley, but it has a good flavor to it as well. When you walk inside, you walk down an aisle and the menu board is overhead if you need some help picking out what to eat. You turn the corner and walk up to the counter for ordering. Make your order, you get your receipt and drink cups for self serve soda, teas and water. Find yourself a seat and wait for them to call your number and await the perfection that is coming your way. Be ready for a tastebud explosion. If you have room in your tummy after the BBQ get one.of the deserts or walk next door to their ice cream shoppe for some.more yum or grab some ice cream to go. As I was coming down Hwy 31 into Westfield, I saw a sign for a BBQ joint on the exit sign from the interstate. I added it to the list and did some research. I just had to come back and try it. First of all, this place is huge! It is like in a big barn or warehouse. There is outdoor seating and plenty of inside dining. When you enter, you stand in line to order until you get to the counter. They give you a number and call you up. There is also a pirate theme going on with many items on the menu having a pirate name. I had to have some collaboration on what I wanted since there is no combo plate listed. The girl behind the counter told me to order a 1/2 pound meat plate and they could do a 1/4 pound of pork and a 1/4 pound of brisket then add a 1/4 rack of ribs. It was brilliant! The pork and brisket were both really tender and phenomenal. I liked the rub on the ribs but they were a little tougher than I liked. My sides were cayenne potato salad, habanero slaw, and garlic rolls. The potato salad was a mayo base with cayenne pepper. I never had potato salad like that and I can say the same about the slaw. The slaw had some heat to it, which you would guess from the name. The garlic rolls were just rolls with some awesome garlic butter on top. There are 2 sauces - a sweet and a spicy. Both are ketchup based but the sauce itself is unique. It went well with all the meat. They serve phenomenal sweet tea, even in the no or not sweet enough tea land known as Indiana. On Fall Break and have driven by this place for YEARS never to have stopped. I've watched it grow from an "outdoor" restaurant in front of an antique mall to the very cool and interesting place it is now! My visit started with a suggestion of "something fun to do for those of us who aren't traveling" over a school break. I did not know about the Freezery until I saw someone suggest it to a woman looking for things to do with her middle school aged kids. So after 3 hours of yardwork with my 15 yr old, I suggested we check it out. We started with "lunch" around 3pm on the BBQ side. Knowing I was going for a milkshake, I only had a pork BBQ sandwich. Son had The Amendment (rice a key plating for the BBQ meat on this item). Husband had Meat Plate with brisket. All of us thought our food was good, above average. No one had a orgasmic experience, but worth the price. Side items tried were Mac n cheese, spicy potato salad and Cole slaw. We finished up and went to check out the milk shakes. Look at the photos on line. If you really want a milkshake, I do not recommend eating prior. I got the Copper Pot thinking hub would eat some of it, but he ordered a Brownie Sunday. Son had a cereal milkshake. My Insane Milkshake was very good. Salted caramel ice cream with pretzel pieces and brownie chunks. Chunks could have been a little smaller so easier to eat, but I get you need some big chunks for the visual. I like it but could not finish. My son said Cereal Milkshake could have used a third layer of cereal. Husbands brownie was basically my milkshake but in solid form. Same ice cream, same brownie. Looked very good. It came with a lid, so he took half home. My son took 1/3 or his cereal shake home. Staff seemed happy to be working--no frowning faces or slow molasses attitudes. The place only had a few customers around (3pm is a weird time to eat). We were told if no one was at the Freezery, to let the Restaurant know and they would get someone over to help us. This is exactly what we had to do and the gal who made our desserts didn't seem bothered or put out to come and create for us. Venue is decorated with Pirate and swamp scenes. Fun and festive. Overall the BBQ was better than average, but all round staff and environment and frozen treats round this review to a 5 star. I recommend the Hoffanator (seasoned fries topped with mac & cheese, baked beans, pulled pork, barbeque sauce and ranch dressing.) I also love the El Segundo (Jasmine rice topped with fries, mac & cheese, pulled pork, cilantro, onions, spicy mayo and a lime wedge.) I travel every other week and try the best BBQ places around the country. This week I visited Big Hoffa's Smokehouse in Westfield, Indiana. I ordered a big portion of brisket, pork and spicy potato salad. I'm not a big fan of receiving my food with a spice mix on top of it. It feels like, they're trying to add flavor to the meat that should have been added during the cooking process. The brisket was moist and tasty. The pork was quite bland (not enough spice mix?), but really good together with the BBQ sauce. The spicy potato salad was spicy, not really any other flavor than that. I was a bit sad that I didn't get to try their loaded potato fries, but that's what I would get if I visited again. read more

We had the most lovely and seamless carryout experience with this business yesterday. After biking 30 miles on the Nickel Plate Trail, I found myself hankering for some bbq - a little treat for our efforts, if you will? ;) We called and placed an order and the food was ready within 20 minutes. As of Memorial Day weekend, they are currently only accepting carryout orders via phone. It had been awhile since my last visit but I couldn't forget how delicious the Saigon Special was on a bed of jasmine rice (special request the rice in place of the Bahn mi bread). This dish consists of pulled pork, pickled veggies, jalapeños, cilantro and sriracha-style mayo over a bed of jasmine rice. The combination will leave you licking the plate. Our second entree was the one meat platter served with two sides and a garlic roll. We opted for the juicy brisket, Mac and cheese and baked beans. All were delicious. Upon arrival, you'll find that they've set up a small tent out front to hand off orders and accept payments.
