Loved this place! Enjoyed a deluxe crab cake breakfast served with eggs, grits, and pan bread (Texas toast made from sourdough bread.) Husband had thick, big waffles and bacon. The servers, Michelle and Teresa, were beautiful. Friendly women. Lots of atmosphere with tasteful , nostalgic Louisiana art. I'm sure they have a devoted following. And the crab cakes were superb!

staff was so sweet and food tasted so good!!! the dinner atmosphere was also very classic and enjoyable to be in :)

This is a cool diner with an old school vibe and it also is a fantastic option for as they also stay open late. I sampled their cheeseburger and really enjoyed that experience here. They have lots of neon lights that really help give this spot a great ambiance along with offering a good variety of daily specials to keep things interesting. Overall this is an all around good spot to grab some classic American food along with a few local Louisiana options. My video review of Big Easy Diner is here: https://youtu.be/dbCWFZuaQO4

I am normally big on diner food so I was excited to stop in and try Big Easy after being told it was quite good. I will preface it by saying they were very busy when we came, but we spent forever waiting to get seated and even longer to get service once we were. Seemed like as we got seated was when the staff got a break from being busy so we were an after thought. The food was good, or this rating would be lower. Will go back sometime and hope to get a day with less business.

Our group "Happy Hearts" went dancing at nursing home then to eat at Big Easy Diner - there was 11 of us. The meal was delicious - the gentleman that waited on us, I believe Matt, was absolutely amazing and on point with everything for our order . Highly recommend this place for any yummy food you may want. Some had breakfast and some lunch - bottom line - delicious!! Kathy

Been in Slidell a couple of days now, went to Big Easy on a local recommendation and now I've been twice. This place is great!! Day one to day two different meats same great taste and service!! If you leave hungry, that's on you! My only dislike is the griddled toast, I prefer it in a toaster. I'll see them tomorrow for breakfast as well!

Stopped in here as a meeting point with friends before heading back to Nashville. The service was fast and friendly and the food wasn't bad either. It's got the old diner feel inside and full of smiles. Worth the stop for breakfast!!!

    Steak and eggs!!!

Ordered chicken and waffles breakfast-it was horrible. Waffles were not cooked through and chicken batter fell off. Then ordered steak and egg with hash browns. Ordered medium rare and got well done. Like shoe leather. What ever happened to their cook!! Food was tasteless.

Lovely staff. A real southern experience. Popular with the locals which is a good sign!

That's clearly communicated when you're greeted, so naturally it sets the expectation for shareable portions. We started with the ricotta and meatballs. Overall, portions felt on the smaller side, but the ricotta, especially at $18, was honestly a bit shocking in size. When we asked about it, a server jokingly said "inflation." I get it, but still. The two guys I dined with come here often and were actually the ones pointing out that portions have seemed to shrink. For mains, we each ordered a pasta. One was a server recommended agnolotti with crab, corn, and roe. It was decent, but the broth felt a bit too loose and could've used more depth and richness. That said, the crab portion was generous, the pesto was great, and the red sauce pasta was solid. We also ordered two pizzas, hands down the highlight of the meal. Easily the best thing we had. One small but off putting detail, the red pepper flakes were served in an open jar rather than a shaker. It made me question how many hands had been in it, especially since it appeared to have been reused from another table. Not the most sanitary presentation. Dessert was a strong finish. Panna cotta, tiramisu, and olive oil cake were all fresh and delicious. Drinks included a cocktail for me and beers plus an espresso martini for the table, all fine. Service wise, things started okay but felt rushed toward the end. We even mentioned we were still picking at food and what seemed to be a manager still cleared plates from the table. The tables themselves are also very small, which doesn't help when you're doing family style dining. Our server appeared to be training someone but never introduced them, which made things feel a bit awkward. Also, when resetting silverware, it felt rushed and a little careless, almost tossed onto the table rather than placed. Overall, the experience was good but not great. The food had its highlights, but portion sizes versus price and some service missteps held it back. 6/10, and honestly it reminded me why I hadn't felt the urge to come back before.

It's a hole in the wall that is definitely popular with locals, and fills up quickly, which is what I wanted. The food is top-notch, and the vibe is casual, with a mix of classic, but casual dining. One recommendation: go hungry. The food is rich, and the servings are generous.

The main dining room is inviting and stylish in an understated way. Our server was super friendly and the food was excellent. We had an appetizer sampler to start - hubs wasn't fond of the thick batter on the calamari but also noted it was tender and tasty. My family is Italian and had Italian friends who owned a shop and made their own homemade Italian sausage... I'm not saying Mandina's makes their own but one bite took me back. I think the texture would have been better served in grilled chunks rather than the slices that tasted fried; the crispy surface area of the cut exposed interior wasn't bad but not my preference. Also included was fried stick of eggplant which was some of the best I've had. I ordered the veal parm for my entrée that was cooked perfectly, the marinara was exquisite and the perfect ratio to the veal and the pasta. Another entrée ordered was the shrimp bordelaise but switch the shrimp out for a veal cutlet which they were happy to do as my daughter doesn't eat tomato sauce but was eager to try the veal. The down side was that their bordelaise wasn't traditional bordelaise of the red wine sauce variety; the dish turned out to be like pasta tossed with garlic and butter and we wish we had known. When I asked the waitress if it would be traditional bordelaise she confirmed that it was, which was why we ordered it. That it turned out not to be was a let down. But all-in-all this was a great dining experience for all the right reasons. If you're like me and hate being stuck in touristy eateries, hop the street car down Canal and tell the conductor to let you off at Mandina's and thank me later.
