Recently went back to Bonnie C's for dinner with my family. Nice welcoming staff. A little something for everyone on the menu. Not a large restaurant but they have a few tables for larger parties. This go round we had the, sample appetizer platter, crawfish pies, fried chicken, pork chops, meatball sub and the special that night (catfish jambalaya). See photos for some of the items. I wanted to try something different for lunch so I stopped in! It has a family diner feel to it! I waited to be seated which took a few minutes. The waitress was super sweet! I ordered the Southern fried chicken which my waitress let me know would take 20 minutes. It was ok. The red beans & macaroni were good. I had a taste of my mom's Deep South Gold & it was delicious! Okay, Bonnie C's is not a 5star restaurant in the classic way, but as a native New Orleanian this restaurant takes me back to the restaurants of New Orleans before the chains and glamour food became standard. The food is always delicious and servings large. Foods that the old restaurants offered, like white beans and panéed pork chops, stuffed bell peppers,, etc. are standards, as are seafood and poboys. I've passed this place a million times on my travels through Slidell and have always wanted to stop. The "C" in the business name is actually "Copeland" by the way, as in, the Louisiana Family that is known for their Southern-style cooking. Being on Keto, and Fasting (16:8) all during the day; that morning when I drove past, their billboard said, "Steak Nite", and it was decided. So on a cold and rainy Wednesday night, I popped in and had my mouth all set for a rare, juicy steak. The atmosphere is super casual and the restaurant is lit brightly. There is a beautiful wooden bar on one side of the venue, separated by the dining booths and featuring an impressive display of top-shelf brands. Unfortunately, the night I chose to walk in was actually "All You Can Eat Catfish" night. As my heart plummeted, I hesitantly asked the server if they could cook it grilled...and the answer was YES!!! Best news ever! The portion was generous beyond expectations, even if the "refill" was on a small plate, the fish was well cooked, and even "blackened" a bit with spices. All in all, a really tasty experience and I will be back this Tuesday for that steak they mentioned! read more

Bonnie C's is a great local cafe offering a variety of options. The menu has real depth, from turkey and dressing, to Italian dishes, a selection of great sandwiches, and of course your seafood favorites. There are also rotating daily lunch specials that are always filling and tasty. This is a local casual sort of place, with a statue of Elvis that often is dressed for the season, and is sometimes standing out front. This seems appropriate for the diner type dishes that come out of the kitchen. One special side that you should not miss is the baked macaroni and cheese, luscious and lovely indeed. Another favorite to try is the open faced roast beef, which is served on a boat of crusty French Bread. All their sandwiches are special so it is hard to go wrong with that section of the menu. Bonnie C's is located right on Highway 11 in old-town Slidell. This is very easy to reach from I-10, as there is a Highway 11 Exit that is easy off and back on again. This will make it easy for travelers to stop in and have a great meal while passing through. It is just a few miles due south of I-10. read more

Yet another "Don't let the outside fool you" places. Highly recommend! Nothing fancy, just good home cooking. As most cooks and chefs know, simple is often very difficult to do. They can sure do it here. They have specials everyday. I lucked out and landed on white beans day. Came with rice and sausage in it, a perfectly fried pork chop and corn bread. A delicious meal with fantastic service for $10.99. The ladies working here are the best too. Friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Sure wish I lived in the area. read more

First time eating here in about 10 years. Ordered via Grubhub which they have via DoorDash. Waited an hour (as per the wait which I was fine with) 10 minutes after 8pm about an hour since I ordered the store calls me and says that Grubhub must not be coming. Employee says this happens a lot yet they still use Grubhub? Cancel it!!! So, I decide to go pick it up. I get there and the door is locked. I knock, customers are looking at me knocking but employees literally don't move an inch to open the door. The rude employee yells and points at the side door. Like I'm supposed to know about the secret entrance around back. Once I made it to the secret door I ask her if she's having a bad night and she said "I'm fine but we closed at 8pm" as if it's my fault they still use a service that doesn't work well for this area. Oh, also update your hours on Yelp because it says your open until 9pm, Hun! If you know GH is an issue cancel it, if you know that drivers sometimes bail, call before the food has been sitting there for 30 minutes. I haven't been here in 10 years and now I can assure you that it will be at least another 10 before I show my face in this poorly run establishment. Sorry, for the cooks in the back because I know how hard they work. I'm hiring for my restaurant if you want to work for someone that cares about the customer experience. If I was able to separate food from service my stars would be different. So it's our first time here and when we walk in we stand at the front and kind of look around to see if there's a host or a server. No one really stands out except a girl with green hair at the back making drinks but she doesn't acknowledge us. She walks away and goes behind the bar and still says nothing to us. Another girl comes from the back says nothing then finally another girl comes out and says give her just a minute. Eventually girl 2 comes to the front and says let me clear one of these tables..I instead ask for a menu because we want to order to go. After ordering and waiting I then notice the three of them talking while holding my bagged to go order as if it is not a priority to get my food to me. As for the food, the spaghetti and meatballs and Cesar salad, were good. It came with 2 meatballs they charged $3 for an extra meatball and that just didn't seem worth it. I ordered the chicken stuffed with seafood stuffing topped with crawfish sauce and as sides jambalaya and sweet potato fries. The fries were soft so that could've been better. The jambalaya and stuffed chicken was good. However the chicken was two pieces of fried chicken breast with a thin layer of stuffing in the middle. The stuffing was really good I would have liked more. Overall the food was good and I'd try them out again. I think I'd just order ahead and get it to go. read more

Ugh. Bonnie really let me down today. I've started to try this place out a few times now, but something always told me to go somewhere else. Today I finally went for it. I don't really get the decor of Bonnie C's. There is a big Elvis statue at the front of the restaurant and several pics of old New Orleans on the walls. There is a pretty good sized bar which was surprising to see. They offer several different apps, po-boys, plate lunches and brunch items for the weekends I think. One of my favorite meals is turkey and dressing so I opted for that when I saw it on the menu. It comes with turkey, dressing, greens, yams, bread and cranberry sauce. I chose to go with baked macaroni and mashed potatoes rather than greens and yams. I was told it was $1.00 extra for each so instead of $10.99, my lunch was now $12.99 due to the substitutions. I found that strange since there is no price difference on the menu for the different sides. I get my lunch and it looks good. I bite into the macaroni and it is completely cold. I mean right out of the fridge cold. I had to send it back to get heated. Right after I sent mine, the diner across from me sent his back for the same reason. The block of dressing was partly warm and partly cold. The gravy on the turkey was partly warm and partly cold. Very disappointing meal. Nothing was hot except for the macaroni after it was brought back to me. Too bad it didn't taste good. I doubt I will be back. read more

This place has some really good food. The service was a little slow and they do have a very laid back atmosphere. Most of the patrons were older but that didn't bother me. The fried chicken was awesome. Also the shrimp bo boy was really good. It was over stuffed on really good French bread. It had a lot of shrimp on there for a 10.00 poboy and was really big enough to split. The fries were really good and crispy also. In total a great spot. I'm a big fan of the roast beef Po'boy and sweet potato fries. I'm very happy they can make the po'boy like I like it. Hot roast beef ( ooh so tender) dressed with the gravy on the side. I don't like a sloppy sandwich . The sweet potato fries are crispy and plentiful. The fried catfish is another good choice. Their house side salad is great too with the homemade honey mustard dressing. Service is great... friendly faces with big smiles.
